- 5 CHEAP Watches That Get Respect From Watch Collectors !
In today's episode of Federico Talks Watches I talk about 5 cheap watches that watch guys and collectors love. Not al watches have to be expensive, but a lot of cheap watches are also garbage. But watches like this Orient, Seagull, Vostok, Swatch and Seiko are awesome and they will definitely get respect from watch collectors. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

why do I need respect from other watch collectors?
I buy and collect watches for myself. Not to gain respect from other people.
Exactly, I can care less what others think, I don't need their respect just because I own something they like.
agree! i like orient watch.
Agreed but a lot of people do care what other watch collectors think and seek their approval. Different strokes I suppose
Stop moaning mate and enjoy the video.
I wear a Rado diastar and love it even though people think its ugly lol
The cheapest watch I know of that still gets a nod of approval is of course the Casio F-91w, iconic in every sense 👍
Eriond1 Yep, but I suppose if you see someone wearing an F-91W they may or may not be a watch enthusiast, whereas someone wearing one of the watches in this video pretty much identifies themselves as a watch enthusiast.
@@KevinHuangPhasorQuantaG i read that because of the ease you can interface the alarm to a bomb the f91w can and has put people in camp x-ray. search it! but yes its a great timekeeper that can be adjusted spot on.
@@KevinHuangPhasorQuantaG I wouldn't say someone who is wearing a Seiko divers watch is a watch enthusiast either.
@@tomnewham1269 Right...because what they wear is a clear indicator of what their perception and interests in a subject are. You're a genius, mate.
I wear a F-91w around the house due to its small size it makes it the perfect "lounge watch"
My dad loved collecting watches. Watching these types of videos always reminds me of him. I kept his Swiss watch after he passed away 4 years ago.
Sorry for your loss
awsome. I was given my grandparents watches after they passed.
@@johnmacy3607 oh wow thats amazing them. True heirlooms

cheap is the wrong word, you should say affordable
These are beyond affordable. These are straight up cheap. It doesn’t get any cheaper
@@FedericoTalksWatches i get your point but the word "cheap" is just so negative😅
@@FedericoTalksWatches it does get cheaper. Casio duro costs 50 USD and runs more accurate than your overpriced Long jeans ;)
Both cheap and affordable are relevant terms. Simply using the average street price is probably the best. Something like 5 best watches between $100 and $400 or whatever the parameters are. IMO
He means affordable not cheap in the bad sense English isnt his first language
Cheap has such negative connotations. Wouldn't inexpensive or affordable be more descriptive of horologically-significant timepieces?
@Lee Do big words scare you, illiterate man? There’s nothing wrong with the way he expressed himself, it’s not pretentious, let the man comment how he damn well pleases.
Orient really needs to be noticed a lot more. If not for watch enthusiasts around social media platforms I would not have discovered that brand. My watch collection primarily consists of Casio and Timex watches and after getting my first mechanical watch in the form of a handed-down Seiko SKX015 my interest for automatic watches grew and so I bought a Gen. 2, Ver. 2 Orient Bambino (cream dial). I look forward to owning a few more automatic watches. I just hope that watchmakers such as Orient would be recognized more so that people like me can get their hands on affordable and quality watches.
Citizen is a Japanese clock house founded back in 1918. The name "Citizen" was chosen to bring Citizen watches closer to the hearts of all people across the globe. Today, Citizen is just that - a favorite watch of people across the globe.
Citizen is the largest watchmaker and as many as two-thirds of all watches in the world are powered by Citizen's Miyota. Although most watches are "somewhat" Citizen, only watches made in Japan carry the Citizen label on the dial - a symbol of unparalleled quality and advanced technology.
Citizen no longer have affordable auto below 100 dollar
I have had the Seiko SKX for over ten years now. It does not keep time well in my watch winder but, once I start wearing it for a day or two it keeps perfect time. I also have a Seiko Pogue that I got in ‘78, and it keeps time very nicely. The Pogue taught me to not return it ti Seiko. I sent it back for a cleaning and crystal replacement. It came back with the small elapsed time dial floating around under the nice new crystal.
The Vostok is designed to be serviced every 10 years and can be regulated to be quite accurate. People look down on it because it's russian, if it was Swiss they'd be raving about it.
@bisquitnspanky lot of ugly swiss watches.
i said that the other day. yeah the swiss make good watches....but they aren't the only ones...but that ok because people like you and i get to take advantage of something thats not over-hyped yet
If it were Swiss they would say the crown is broken and what happened to this bracelet
swagmanandy I have a 1950s Vostok that I bought about 8 years ago. Haven’t had to have it serviced yet. They’re absolutely among the best value-for-money watches out there.
My vostok is on the way.
Probably should own and use a vostok before calling it junk. Mine is more accurate than my Seiko 5. And it is serviceable. In fact it's probably the only watch you listed on here that a person at home can open up and regulate using a toothpick.
Orient, Seagull, the Russian brands have plenty of watches that are 'cheap' but offer great value for the money and are robust.
Vostocks are easy to work on, additionally they keep great time. Sometimes you may get one that runs fast, but they can be adjusted very easily. Additionally, they lend themselves to customization.
Yeah, that irked me a bit 'not very serviceable' - the service interval is 10 years minimum!
The accuracy bit too - they can be regulated to accuracy equalling Seiko's 😂
I felt the same, the are easely worked on and can be just as accurate as more expensive watches. I personally think they are great pieces for the price!
Mine doesnt hack. Cant be set accurately at all. Runs a bit fast too.
@@sugarnads There is a bit of a 'pseudo-hack' trick. Using an app like Watchtimer you can regulate the watch yourself - there are tutorials on UA-cam 👍
@@jagoq53 the ol' Vostok special: "clutch" the watch movent with the crown by pulling & holding lightly back. It works, but that's gotta be bad for the movent, right? IDK how the RUS design philosophy works, I know they trend toward "it'll go through hell & function" so maulybw it's OK. I just try to pick up and wind mine when the seconds are close to actual time
The seagull is such a great value for money, I’m 100% with you about how underrated it is, I just adore my seagull.
@@ultimaetsolder I majored in history and I have not found any actual harm CCP did to any single country, so there is nothing for me to be against them.

I have a Vostok Kommenderski, bright yellow one for casual wear and the beater is a Bertucci A-3P Nato and boy does it take a beating as I am a mechanic on city buses.
Not much of a collection at the moment but I do have a list and a plan to get there.
@mike adan yes they are. When I had mine for a week I realized that Vostok would be a collection on it's own.
Stay safe and take care.
The vostok is a great budget watch, great genuine serious underwater capabilities
these are high end in my collection
The Orient Ray is my top affordable watch
@@jz7747 Because the Orient Ray is a great watch.
Lani Garcia orient is making great entry level watches atm, just got a kamasu recently!
I'm thinking about getting one worried about the size what size wrist do you have and how does it look - I have a 6 1/2 in wrist ?
The orient ray 2 has most bang for buck
Great choice. Much agreed.
"it packs a bit of a horological punch" i never thought i'd hear such a phrase but i like it

How did the Seiko 5 not make the list? Fully auto watch for under $80
Also Check out the guanqin gj16034 ... for just 60$ you get an automatic watch with Sapphire crystal
Because they dont get a lot of respect from watch enthusiasts. They're good value but so are G shocks, very rare that someone would acknowledge a seiko 5
FatSamEIE what are you saying? Seiko 5s are automatic, affordable and quality watches why would people want respect that.
@@FatSamEIE Seiko 5s have a rather cult following. I think Frederico didn't include it because it's the obvious choice.
I have a Seiko 5 and wish I hadn't bought it. Its a snxg47k1 and looks lovely. But it stops working during the night. I have been late for work because of this. If you want to buy I would be glad to sell it to you. On one proviso, be active and never take it off your wrist.
I sold my V4 Orient Bambino because of worrying about scratching the lovely domed mineral chrystal.
I think the Vostok could be turned into a series of videos where you play around with the watch and customise it
Check out UA-camr "Just One More Watch". Jody loves the Vostok and has done a few videos of him modifying his Scuba Dude and Komenderskie.

I'm an Orient owner, so of course I have to throw the Mako II in there. Applied indices, in house movement from a legit watch manufacturer, the beautiful blue dial and Pepsi combo. For around 160-180 its a solid watch.
And the USA adds a sapphire crystal, solid end links, and generous applications of super luminova. I got mine for 320 shipped. Packed full of value!
I love my mako and its held up really well over the years
Vostok amphibia! From Russia with love!
Out of all these watches the Seagull 1963 got my attention the most
The Vostok Amphibian is by far the lowest in cost of my collection, however I wear it daily. Because I set the time, strap it on and forget about it. I can wear it for months and never have to re-set the time or hand wind it. Plus I never worry about it getting wet or being rough on it. Vostoks are the most under rated, best valued watch on the planet. Keep your Rolex, I will stick with Vostok.
Me too
They are totally functional and don't try to look cool.
Yet they are the coolest!
@@AnonOrange I agree 100%. I have both models, but end up wearing my Amphibian. The Komandirskie is also very accurate, and although only rated at 30m, I have been swimming with it a dozen or so times without problem. Yep, Vostoks are the king of watches.
💯 agree. The round case (420?) Amphibia is so, SO easy-wearing on a NATO. The only thing about buying a Vostok is... You end up buying/accumulating an entire sub-collection of Vostoks. Amphibia ✅ Komandirske ✅ custom ✅ vintage ✅ Can't put the toothpaste back into the tube...

1. the Casio f91-w
2. Timex Weekender
3. the whole Seiko 5 series
4. The Casio G-Shock
5. every other digital watch from Casio
Stefan Infanger
Agree you cant ignore them.
I think one Casio digital watch in a collection is probably enough (unless you collect Casios). I have an F91-W for when I'm doing DIY, fixing the car, or playing sport. I love it, but I find digital watches are a bit soulless. They aren't alive like a mechanical watch, you can't hear them, you can't interact with them.
I just bought a vostok amphibian a few days ago lol its the first watch ive ever bought 🤔😁
Hi Fed! About the Amphibian... this watch aren't just quirky, they are actually very interesting from a technical point of view. There are some informations on the forums about them, you can also find a Hodinkee article about them and they sum up part of this technical aspect too!
Personally... I bought a vintage Vostok for a steal, as an impulse buy while I was just scrolling russian watches. It's such a lovely watch, that I bought another one, with a different dial! I really enjoy them, manually wound with the 470 antimagnetic case (which does look good in person)... The only hard part is finding one in good shape and with original parts.
Total agree. Vostok watches are very satisfying to live with & are a ton of fun with all of the customising you can do.
I own an Omega Aqua Terra, but I also have 4 Bambinos and I enjoy them just as much.
The Seiko SKX is amazing, I don’t like taking mine off and you can forgot about it and literally do anything without a single worry. Really holds its own! (Just get a replacement jubilee strap from Strapcode)
Wostok (Vostok) it’s a crazy band. I love the peace’s. Study the history Sir., you will be impressed... Great upload, thank you. Regards
Plus, you can mod the daylights out of the Vostok!!!!!
I may have to get a Vostok depending if I can get the correct Soviet art. Great video.
I have the 1963 and have just ordered my 1st Vostok….the exact one you showed. As soon as I can find the 38 mm Bambino I will buy. Super vid as always Sir!
Dude why do you sound like you're trying to convince yourself you're gonna buy the Vostok
No Casio calculator watch 😢
The calculator one of the most iconic watches ever, wearing one makes you look like a professional in a STEM field... also Casio G-Shock is extremely impact resistant and reliable
Or Casio atomic timekeeper! 30$

Casio radio watch
When people want a big and busy quartz watch, I point them to the Casio Edifice lineup. (many people would not want an automatic watch for daily wear). Better than those Diesel or Fossil hunks for the money.
Bought the cream dial bambino because of this, still think Gen 2 is the best out of 4. Strap is a bit darker brown than expected but can always be switched out. There is a slight 3D effect that makes the center of the dial appear raised, but quite nicely and not in a gaudy way. Great recommendation by Federico!
Excellent choices!
Totally love my Vostok, which I bought in Russia in 2000 for about $10. Still works fine.
Here’s one to add to the list:
The Casio F-91W
I’m a mechanical snob, but I love this watch. It’s a fun piece!
Price? $12.95 on Amazon!
I had a similar one back in 1980, so it’s a blast from the past as well.
💯 Agree. I'd add: totally worth the extra 30.00 USD to upgrade to a G-shock DW5600. Love the nostalgic/vintage vibes. The 5600 wears smaller on-wrist than I expected for a G-shock BTW
Loved how he started smiling when talking about the Vostok love those watches!
I own a Vostok mechanical, the paratrooper. It’s one of the most accurate watches I own. Its has a zero beat error gains +1 second a day.
Well hell, I think the Timex Expedition Scout is a decent inexpensive value, so I'll just shuffle off with head held low in shame... 🤗
I own 2
no need to be ashamed i will get one of those myself i love Timex watches!
Watching this while wearing my Amphibia cased Longines Ultra-Chron I'm a vintage Longines collector and brought this movement and dial for spare parts but decided to case it in this bulletproof case lol
Still sounds a bit like snobbery to me. Apparently if you don’t have watches in the top tier realm of collecting you aren’t a real collector. But hey these CHEAP watches can get a pass. I think collecting should be all price points. Honestly there are a ton of good designs from all over the price spectrum. Not all luxury watches are created equal too.
Yes, these cheap watches are an exception because they provide something akin to what the higher price watches provide. The watch hobby 9 times out of 10 is not to do with design. It's about history and mechanism and provenance. If it was just about design then the quartz revolution would have won out.
You can collect whatever you want at whatever price point but the general community edges towards more expensive pieces, it's supply and demand. If nobody wants them they'll be cheaper than if everybody does, especially people for whom watches are a hobby and not simply an instrument of telling the time.
Chill, he is still virgin and playing WoW, don't be jelaous.
kokakoliah A Collection of anything is respectable in it’s own right. When I see a collection, I know the countless hours it took to hunt for particular items of interest because I’ve done it many times for many collections. I collect a lot of things and although some rich prick might scoff when they see my two Vintage Omega’s in between my Plastic casio and timex pieces (as well as the stupid-bulky monstrosity that is my invicta that I’ll never wear) but I take pride in knowing that I still own every single watch that I’ve ever worn. I agree that not every collection needs to be high end to be recognized as one, not every collection needs to include particularly rare or valuable pieces, though a bit of history tied to a piece would be outstanding. Now one request I could make for any collectors out there would be this- Please don’t make a Fashion Watch (MVMT, Daniel Wellington, ect.) Collection!
Richard mille quality is shit , but because it's expensive , it's supposed to be a collector item
I prefer to collect what I like. That's it. I don't care about brands. I gave up the Label Whore lifestyle a long time ago. I got rid of several high end pieces and just went back to simple, inexpensive watches that look good and make me happy. That's what I believe collecting should be about. Pieces that make one happy!
Great list and video! The Orient Bambino is a very underrated watch. I switched my Bambino to SARB033/035 and I think it has a more elegant look. Still, I miss my Bambino (2nd generation). It was cheap yet good looking.
Vostoks are a great value for the money and absolutely servicable. I have service several in the last few months. Very easy to work on, might I add. Keep up the great vids Federico! 👍

I’m a Bulova, Citizen type of guy myself but the Orient keeps calling my name.
The bulova lunar pilot is one of my favorite everyday watches. Even get questions/comments on it.
I haven't owned a watch in years. I happened upon your channel because of the swatch collection you did a video on. You make an interesting video. Heck I'm even thinking about getting a watch now.
So? It's been a year, did you get one?
watching this whilst wearing my vostok amphibia. I also have a komanderski and am also getting a classica for christmas. They are my favorite watch brand and have not failed me once. Just sadly quite hard to find in the UK.
Good for you! I am also wearing my amphibia. Vostok has never failed me either. Sometimes a watch doesn't need to be high end, it just needs to be built like a tank and tell you the time.
It was cool to see a Vostok on your list. I picked up a heavily worn manual-wind Kommanderski at an Afghan bazaar in 2006. It has a black dial with a small gray Tu-160 Blackjack on it and very ornate stamping on the back. All of the chrome is gone from the body which just makes it cooler. It was just too unique to pass up so I put a black crocodile strap on it and wore it a lot until it stopped keeping good time. The quality isn’t great (noticeable flaw at 11 o’clock on the crystal, timekeeping issues, etc.), but it’s one hell of a unique watch and I just need to get it regulated. Given the damage and the fact that it is Russian and was purchased in Afghanistan, I always wondered what happened to its original owner. Maybe I don’t really want to know. Anyway, keep up the great videos!
Thanks for this. Just ordered the Chinese Seagull.
Looking to get one. Still working fine?
The Chinese 1963 (the year I was born) is high on my wishlist. Great video. Cheers from Brazil.
I have the skx007 and orient bambino. Thanks to this video I just purchased a vostok amphibia and soon the sistem51! 😔
Frederico, agree with your choices, though I'm not really into the dive watches and a Swatch seems like a novelty watch. I like the look of the Bambino and Vostok watches. I don't buy quartz, so that limits my Timex choices to vintage wind-ups (there are many, with assorted dials and casings). But as I can't go high-end, I go vintage, and there's a veritable treasure trove of excellent vintage watches out there, besides the usual Hamiltons, Gruens, and Walthams: Tissot, Longines, Omega (love those pie-pans with the gold observatory logo on the back), GP, Croton, Doxa, Uno, Savoy, etc. Keeping them maintained may be a challenge, but some are just super reliable work horses. They have character and history and oftentimes a yesteryear elegance that you don't find in today's watches. To those who wouldn't touch a used watch, when you go to a hotel that bed has been slept on by hundreds of guests before you. Ditto for the silverware you eat with a restaurant.
You’ve got me interested with the System 51 and SKX. Will definitely have look at those. Thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I bought an SKX007 last year, man it's sweet. Only better deal is a citizens diver but my seiko looks really nice with the steel band.
Federico, thanks for your nice 5 Cheap Watch review! I also liked and agreed about your 5 Expensive Watches review :)
I must mention that the cheap Vostok Amphibia is just a tiny, TINY bit of Russian watch selection. Russia made and makes a lot of everything independently, also watches.
Some Russian Watch Factories: Pavel Bure (Russian Empire), G.Tochmech, 1st State Watch Factory, 2nd State W.F., 1st Moscow W.F. (later Poljot), Chistopol (later Vostok), Zlatoust, Molnija, Penza, Zvezda, Pobeda, Ural, Uglich/Chaika, Vimpel, Leningrad, Sportivnie, Petrodvorets (later Raketa), Strela, Almaz, Slava, Volna, ZIM, Luch, Elektronika, Svet and many, many more.. I've a few examples in my Russian watch collection and enjoy them all! :)
Amazing watches, whether it's a reliable Pobeda at lower price level or international gold winners like Vostok Chronometer -62, "ultra" thin gold watch or little Chaika 1965 (6x9 mm full jewelled) and more.. Russia early alarmwatches, chronometers, moonphase watches, diving watches, 24 hours watches, gold or aluminium watches or later Titan watches are all very interesting.
Russian watches 1st in Space, 1st in Spacewalk, longest time in Space, special made for Space etc. are interesting to many.
So are all the versions of chronographs, chrono/moonphase/24h and other complications. Then also Vostoks inexpensive watches and their a little higher grade series, even higher grade are the Raketa watches of today, handmade watches like Konstantin-Chaykin and more... All with In-house movements, of course.
The more I look, the more impressive history and watches!! So thanks for that passion Russia :)
Vostok Amphibia, the AK-47 of watches. Like AKs, T-34s and Sturmoviks, they're crude but effective. Automatic with hand winding, 31 jewels, an acrylic crystal designed to deform and press down on its' seal under pressure and (as Federico mentioned) a very effective "wobbly" crown that's almost impossible to cross-thread. Like the Sea Gull, you can get these with a cool red star on the face too, and, like the SKX, they can be modded and customized.
Excellent list (If only because I have three of the listed watches).
This was a great video. Mostly you only talk about very expensive watches. This video motivated me to get a Vostok.
Would be good to hear your view on some watches from micro brands.
I picked up a Vostok Amphbia "Scuba Dude" on the "Ministry" case just yesterday. I own a Rolex, Breitling, Longines, Tag, and Eterna. Is this watch up there with them, hell no, it's an $80 watch. Put on a Barton Silicone quick-change strap and it is super comfortable, closest I could set it to yesterday was +15 seconds (it doesn't hack) to the NIST Time clock. 40 hours later it gained +2 seconds, that's better than my Rolex ever did.
I'm impressed, best Beater Watch I have ever purchased.
Most Vostok watches are left over inventory from the 1980's. I bought one and the 38 year old spring broke 6 months later. As far as accuracy, it was pretty accurate for a mechanical watch.
Amen to SEIKO!
Good work,Vostok are great fun.
I see what you did there! 🤣
Great list, even though I am mit a huge fan of Vostok&Orient. I would definitely add Poljot onto the list of affordable yet interesting Russian watch brands.
Great video! I would love to see which Vostok you decide on in a future video, I happen to have a submarine dial and the Scuba Dude! Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Was very pleased to hear you mention the SKX, the Bambino and the curious Vostok which I own and enjoy without fear of being mugged :)
Wonderful review and so well-presented. I would throw the Bulova Lunar Pilot into the discussion. Incredibly accurate, mechanical/automatic 5 ticks-per-second chrono hand, beautifully constructed, detailed dial, and a bracelet that looks like--but better constructed--the original Omega Speedmaster bracelet.
💯 Lunar Pilot is 🔥🔥🔥
Kind of large for my liking, but a simply excellent homage
I’m curious your opinion on Mr. Jones watches. I don’t know much about about watches, but they look beautiful to me and are all under 500 I believe. Nice vid!
It looks like you're showing a picture of a car when you switch images
Hi Fed. Nice of you to acknowledge the cheaper side of watch collecting. As owner of 2 watches on this list, I'm glad I'm going in the right direction.
Very well considered recommendations, IMHO. I'd particularly 2nd Frederico's recommendation of the Swatch Sistem51 series. I agree that most of the negative sentiment regarding Sistem51 is from those who don't get the concept. The thing is, these have very good accuracy, and an 90 hour power reserve. The closed/sealed case design and plastic escapement parts are appropriate for a watch selling for $150, because no one in their right mind would want to pay several hundred $ to service a $150 watch (the only economically sensible option is to replace with a new watch, and the plastic parts are used because they will operate in-spec without lubrication for a longer period than jeweled metal escapement that requires service every 5 years or so). Yes, the design reduces cost of production, so one can frame it negatively as a 'cheaply built watch', but it's fairer to think of the design as wholly appropriate for a watch that retails for less than the cost of regular service.
One caveat is that the 51 part movement *might* be improved by the addition of a couple more parts, as it's time-set features are buggy... you have to set the watch about a minute ahead before pressing in the crown, because the minute hand doesn't resume for about a minute. This seems true with all of the Sistem51s. I think Swatch would have fixed this by now if it were possible to do so, but the problem seems to come about as a side effect of reducing the number of parts in the gear train. I've gotten use to it, but it's a pain in the posterior to set these (*very* *accurate*) watches accurately.
My collection includes a beautiful no-name watch I found at Kohl's about 10 years ago. I probably didn't pay more than $12-$15 for it. I've never seen another one like it. My collection has ebbed and flowed over the years, but this one has stayed with me.
Buy what ya LIKE; WEAR what ya buy💯
Damm! I thought wend he said “Cheap” I thought he meant under $50. $200 is not “cheap” to me🤣🤣🤣🤣
Spending anything less than $3k from respectable brands is really a waste of time, unless we're talking smart watches or G-Shocks for the gym. They're counterproductive.
@@PeteNice29 spending beyond is just money wasting
@@PeteNice29 Found a snob.
@@PeteNice29 Seriously? Seiko makes great watches that don't break the bank and they are just as respectable as the other higher end watchmakers. Heck they make their own movements and also innovate with new technologies. It's snobs like you that make the watch collecting community look toxic. Heck I've got toys more expensive than my watches but I have them because I enjoy them for their nostalgia and not their price tags. A person who only sees price tags is a shallow person.
@@PeteNice29 Maybe define what you mean by 'respectable brands'. You'll be hard pressed to find a wide set of options from AP, Patek, Rolex, Omega, etc if you set the floor at $3K, so I'm really struggling to make sense of this take. Your comment implies you haven't done the research to justify the statement to begin with. Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Casio, Hamilton, etc...these are all widely praised, historical brands that offer tremendously successful and popular choices well below the price point you refuse to go under. Feel bad for you b/c you've clearly wasted a lot of money "thinking" you've found the best value when in fact, you've intentionally closed yourself off from a whole new world of experiences at a price point that doesn't kick you in the nuts. If you have the money and you prioritize it towards higher end watch collecting, then more power to you. But holy cow, to claim that anything less than $3K from respectable brands is beyond snobbery b/c I think snobbery implies one is at least knowledgeable of the topic they exhibit the snobbery. You're just wrong.
Great job bro. Would love to see a longer list of cheap gems though.
Nothing beats the Hamilton King Khaki (Day and Date). The price is fantastic at around $350, the movement is very accurate (far more than Japanese at the price point), very practical for everyday use with the Day/Date complication, excellent size for most (wrist size around 7 inches), fits most occasions fine (blends dressy and sporty very well).
lot of things beat the Hamilton KK.

I own a Swatch Sistem FROG (SUTG401). It's loud green with red contrast stitching. I enjoy wearing it. Fight me. lol
I also have a Bambino with the small seconds window. I do plan on getting an SKX. Regardless, enjoyed the video!
The problem with Bambino is the 21mm lug spacing.
I'd have a couple if it had 20 or 22mm lugs. I sincerely doubt the OEM strap would fit my 8.5" wrist.
@@fluffyfreak505 I put mine on a 21mm Hirsh strap
I'd be okay with the odd strap width if they had a watch that's supposed to be a dress watch in an ACTUAL DRESS WATCH SIZE. Heck, 38 or 39 mm would be a good enough size.
It is annoying but this is a dress watch and I don't expect to do allot strappy strap changing. BAMBINO is next on my list to get. Just can't make up my mind which one I want and bam they dropped a 5th version just recently.
The latest version of Bambino (v4) has 22 mm lug spacing.

Great video! The Seiko samurai is another great watch that can be had for very cheap.
Not complete without Casio F91w :P
pah, you think that's cheap? Behold, the Casio F84, directly from Japan, squeezing out yet a few more dimes around the edges.
But honestly, on a custom strap, great, with a thinner wrist, under 7 maybe, even the stock strap could do.
MJFallout Love your comment.
If you want a cheap automatic check out the Citizen 21 Jewels. Lots of different designs and the old ones are cheap as chips!
i got 2 Amphibians, first one was hammer and sickle which lasted a week before a lume went down the date window and jammed something, par for the communism id say, and i just bought the U Boat which is what i originally wanted
Love that orient, every time I look at that on my wrist. I smiled because how nice it looks.
True that's a gorgeous looking watch. I am going to get the 2nd gen of that one with blue dial..
Yes, you got it right. SWATCH is fun, and saved us in the Quartz crisis.
Sunday I noticed a guy wearing a Patek Phillipe Nautica to church. I complimented him on it, but he couldn't take his eyes off of my Orient Bambino! The same one you pictured here. He really liked it!
Love my SKX007. I will always have one in my collection.
The vostock is proberbly the most accurate watch in your top 5 !!!
Scuba dude here... -4sec per day out of the factory. My other one 1967 tribute 090 case, is my experiment machine I regulate it to 6,5sec per day but I can do better if I try me best (with only calculations no timegraph)
Thanks to you, just ordered my first Chinese watch
G-Shock should be in the list... man be honest in reviewing...
Love the mantle clock. I have the exact Seiko in my office. Found it at a rummage sale! Great video! I'm a fan.
Excellent, a video that needed to be done!!
Glad you liked it
It's refreshing to hear someone say you don't have to spend big money to get a watch worth collecting. There is much more to watch collecting than retail and resale value. Thanks for the great video !!
You don't have to spend big money to get a watch worth collecting.
There is a huge difference between COLLECTING watches you like to wear & INVESTING in objects you buy to resell & have little connection to past that¹.
I LOVE my Vostoks, my Orients, G shocks, Seikos... now a Steeldive SD1970. Seagull 1963 38mm on the way!
Edit: ¹Reselles sorta killed sneaker culture with that crap (flippers & hypebeasts) now it's happening with watches. 😐 Or has been, and I'm just getting deep into watches.
How about the Invicta Pro Divers? With a Seiko MH 35, I think it works...
wearing mine as we speak - its my work watch
He said respected, not just a good watch
Very nice 5 group. I just bought 1963 SeaGull. For all the reasons you stated.
I own a Vostok (Vostok Amfibia Classica 960761L GMT) and I agree with Federico about it's merits. Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.
Its not a matter of expectations, where the komanderskie/amphibian are simply different and appreciated. I have 2 of the former, notwithstanding price.
@@thomasmargolis3313 And I'd actually argue that it's not accurate and not serviceable. Got couple of these 20-30yrs old serviced easily at any watchmaker (exact same movement like in new ones). You have a factory punching out new replacement parts if you ever need any (I did not), and the watchmaker adjusted it to be nearly accurate as my brand new Pan-Europ which is about 3-4s late per day.

Hey! Great channel!! I’ll check out the store next time I’m in the area!!
Like most things Soviet/Russian, Vostoks are pretty much unadjusted from the factory. When properly regulated you can often get them close to COSC standards.
Can most watch shops adjust one?
@@johnrooney507 Most watch shops I've spoken with have a very low opinion of anything not Swiss or Japanese. So you have to ask around to find a shop that will adjust them.
@@BackyardObservatory I thought some might be curious and want to check it out.
Nice vid! I bought myself a gently used Citizen Skyhawk Atomic with eco drive in stainless steel from ebay for $200. It's a heavy, tank of a watch but very reliable. Love it.
Why G-Shock, especially the square ones, dont make it here blows my mind. That watch is legendary. U shudve added G-Shock.
They dont make it it because they are worn more often by non watch guys than watch guys. Its a quartz digital watch, its very cool, but also very uninteresting. Most watch collectors would give two shits if they saw a G shock unfortunately.
