      Helps lumbo-pelvic stability by increasing intra-abdominal pressure ensuring the abduction movement is isolated to the hip joint and there is no compensation through pelvis movement. It's a very easy movement to cheat and you lose all benefit if it's not 100% hip joint. Looks silly because it's not heavy compound weight but if it helps you hit the glutes better go for it.

      @@MI-mx3rh yes it's not going to brace your core for you. But when comparing muscle activation with and without the belt you do get slightly more with the belt regardless of what exercise you're using it for.
