- All About the Leg Press with Bret Contreras
In the first episode of All About, I bring you the leg press. The leg press is one of the best exercises you can do to build the quads, hamstrings, and glutes outside of the squat and deadlift! - Спорт
My sister told me to do a side kick on the leg press(heavy) my glutes have never been so sore literally but I never see anybody do it at the gym. Just leg press sideways one leg at a time. It also helps imbalances
My sister told me to do leg press using my head...works out the outer sweep of your quads
@@dogeshiba3518 did your brain grow at all? probably not
@@markbalogh9655 it did by .035 mm
@@dogeshiba3518 great scott!
What do you mean side kick ?
Absolutely love this video! No one talks about leg press anymore it seems and it’s one of my favorites.
lindsayh5219 same!
It fails to be better than the squat. From EMG studies.
@@gonkula i can link the emg study I used for a paper I did if you want. It has less range of motion, has less of a hormone response, ect. Because of this it producesses less muscle mass and strength.
Im sure the Squat is the premier leg builder but that doesnt mean the leg press is useless, Dorian for example used it alot together with hack lifts to build his 6time Olympia legs.
If you have long femurs short torso it is superior to squats
This is exactly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUHHotQRjIQnfuxEeVotlkHVYWH0DXZoS what I needed to get some exercise while I'm stuck at my desk all day. It's just the right size. Only downsides are that the right oeddale unscrews itself while I use it and increasing the tension causes it to squeak while in use. Both are minor issues that aren't that important to me. So I give it 5 stars.
I love Bret, he is compassionate in what he does, training and teaching!!
Hi, Bret! Thanks for putting this video together. I've recently began wrapping my knees (and I wear squat shoes), and my leg presses have increased dramatically. I have been doing pyramids up to 14 plates at 15 reps, and back down to 8 plates which is where I warm up. Understanding better foot positioning and using the loop has me reconsidering how more in depth how I want to use this machine. You have a great reputation and I'm grateful for what you do! If I ever get to San Diego, I have to check out the Lab. Thank you for what you do!
You should make a video on best exercises with the glute loop
Chris Sawyer good idea!
this type of machine really advanced the building of my quads - low on the foot plate
the wide stance worked the hamstrings
These are amazing tips and variations on the leg press. My leg and glue training has improved so much from your videos so thank you for sharing.
Bret, you are the best coach for glutes training, second to none.
Im so glad you’re making videos!
Thank you so much for this video, Bret! I'm adding and mixing up exercises in the gym to both help deal with some nagging R side hip pain (deep squats and DLs aggravate it, so I've had to back off on those, but I can't handle the idea of stopping all LE lifting) while still trying to keep my hams and glutes engaged and not lose the muscle I've put on...and at age 52, it's a helluva lot harder to put on and keep muscle than it was when I lifted in college!
You are the only fitness person I follow on IG - so many are just self-aggrandizing fluff that I don't care about. I want useful info, and you always deliver that in a nice, concise way in your IG posts.
Cheers!
Been researching for leg press informative video and I knew I could come and check out your older videos and you would have one. Thank you as always!
I wish all gyms had the cybex leg press because it's a different move than just the vertical or horizontal leg press machines. I feel like the cybex is more of a clamshell movement, most similar to squatting but doing it in an inverse position. I really feel my legs and glutes work more on the cybex. Thanks for featuring it!
Such perfect timing!
Nice to see your channel grow. Not that you need introduction in the fitness industry & community. Love the IG post and stories. Its nice to see new videos on YT.
This is such awesome quality content/info. Thank you so much!
I love your videos! Please keep posting!
We don’t have anything close to Glute Lab out here in MA, so I learn so much from your research and videos. Thank you!
Leg press is awesome! I can't do squats anymore. I did a (right) sciatica badly playing sport years ago and have a chronic fear of pinching it again under squat pressure with 100 or more kilo's on my shoulders. Leg press removes that risk completely!
Love this!!! Thanks Bret!
Just what I needed. Thank youuu
Love you so much for this amazing content!!!!!!!! thanks for sharing such great tips and knowledge!!!
Awesome - thank you so much for making this video! I learn so much from you 😁
The most comprehensive video on leg press I have seen to date on utube
This should come in very handy. Thanks!
Super thorough! Thanks! You could do this style of video for so many different exercises
LOVE your videos!
Great video exactly what I was looking for! Definitely deserve a sub!
Just what I was looking for, plus all the info I needed 👍❤👍❤
Great video! Very helpful👏🏾
+1 on the model of Leg Press. Unlike the 45degree sled, it does not stress the back and the force curve gets lighter at the bottom and harder at the top.
This video was AWESOME!!!
I love your videos. Please ,continues doing . thanks
Thanks Coach! Just what I needed for quick info before jumping into my leg session 😁👍
My go to workout when I was lifting heavy was 1) Front Squats ( ramping 5s ) 2) Back Squats ( ramp 5s then 3s and then a back off set ) 3) 8 x 8 on the Leg Press ( ramping first with 5s and then backing off to 8 x 8 sets across. ) or 3) Rack Pulls. For most people a Leg Press can be a main lift but it is not the equal of Squating. I do like them as an accessory lift or a main lift on a non Max Effort Day. This all said the best exercises are the ones people will do. Few women will challenge the Squat Rack ( cultural perhaps ) but are comfortable with plate loading a Leg Press. A Leg Press is for sure shoulder friendly. These days I use an SSB for Squating and that has everything to do with shoulder health. Whatever works. Great hypertrophy movement. Drop sets and all. Lots of volume. If I could have one machine at the house it would be a quality Leg Press. I have all the free weights and racks I need otherwise.
This was so helpful thank you. 👍
Love this, thank you x
Thank you for the video! Also, it would be great to have a video about how your type of legs (regarding knee-waist angle) target the muscles and how to train them focus on your type.
The Band addition is just epic, rly good idea!!! Great video!!! Rly like u man!!!
We need more videos like this ...
Lovvvve your videos. Soooo informative.
Thanks for the video. I love doing legpress.
Very nice video. Thanks!
Brilliant work
I’m in Contreras! Been waiting for new up loads! And also been doing my glutes💪🏾🙏🏽👍👍

loved this
Thank you 🙏🏾
the best video of leg press
Thankyou master 🙏🏽❤
Informative and helpful video👏
Thank u😘😘 It was very helpful to me😊😊
Hes hilarious! Great video Bret as always.
Thank God for this vid. I did 4 sets of 15 reps with just the initial weight at PF. Don't know how much that is but I didn't feel any burn. I did notice my back felt uncomfortable. I think the seat was adjusted wrong as I am shorter. Because of the seat I also found myself leaning forward and my feat placement was too low I could barely reach. My right leg feels uncomfortable now. My shin feels weird, my muscles don't hurt it just feels like I've been bumped my a skateboard
That was a Awesome video! I need to use the leg press more
I look forward to your videos! Love your channel, love your content! Bret you're awesome👍
That video was Awesome!
Lots of good useful info😊
Thank You
Seriously great video. It makes sense now why I can’t go deep with these before my back rounds. Tight hips. Also you’ve got me curious now about weight lifting shoes. Thank you for this instructional, it’s going in my saved list so I can refer back to it again!
depth really depends on your hip anatomy, check out video "Stuart McGill: Hip Anatomy"
good video.thanks.
The man himself is back!💪🏼🥳
You’re videos are 🙌🏻🤩
Terrific vid
Looooooooved it!!!
yeah buddy!
Light weight
Great video 👏🏼
Thanks for the tips🦵👍❤️
Great vid pal
My man Aayush over here slayin!
I agree that cybex leg press is the best leg press out there.
I took anatomy1 and I’m going to take anatomy 2 in the fall. I love that he uses anatomy terms 😬📚
🙌 thanks
Great analysis. One recording critique: add source lighting behind the camera to improve video quality
Heh, I was just getting to ask about shoes and boom out falls the answer. Thanks Brett.
Mike Israetel has incredible ankle mobility so I guess he doesn't need them to get the most out of the quads on the machine :P
Keep up the good work Bret!!!!! 🤗👏🏼👍🏽
I'm so jealous of your Cybex..... Best leg press, period.
I saw on internet that you can use the leg press to work the calfs and the muscles around the knees. I am recovering from a torn PLC so need to reinforce all the muscles.
Great tips. Years ago I did a lot of these but messed up my back. I wasn't warming up, and until I saw this video, didn't know I was going too deep. My hips were coming up at the bottom. Eventually, I was able to fix my back doing extensions on the Roman chair with a plate. But yea, don't make the same mistake I did. Excellent video. I still get the occasional pain which I correct with back extensions but you don't want to do damage in the first place.
@Sheree Well, I think it is a decent machine and I built up via it. The key is to go down up to when your hips are about to roll back. You don't want them to roll back. However, staying away from machines is great too. I like back extensions and various lunges.
Good music
Thank you for the great information! 🎯
This is good
👍🏾 good video
Man I need to come check you at that glute lab!
Could all these exercises be performed on the regular 90 degree leg press? I don’t have this one at my gym 💔☹️
Good video Bret. I think we need some additional explanation to position the feet so we hit the abductors. Leg abduction machine is not available everywhere
Yesssssss
Great video 1 Ups for colour editing and using Yosemite instrumental
This machine is soooo much better than a typical 45 degree. I had one at my old gym and could do very heavy loads, pain free through a full range of motion. Now that Im back to a 45 degree machine, the weights are way down and it feels awkward and kinda painful.
Just wondering if your being hard on knees when doing the quad dominate exercise? Also, when you mentioned keeping your back rounding out do mean arching? Thanks! I binge watched a lot of your videos.
❤️
Great video. Plus got to see Steph Curry ball a little in the background. Two for one ☝🏼
Also any tips for a girl with a big booty that wants to keep building but gets back pain. I make sure I’m performing the exercises correctly and with a straight back and focus the squeeze in my flutes but somehow my lower back still just gets tight...
Only issue is when you put your legs lower down for quad emphasis , it does put way more pressure on your knees and for some including myself , get pain
especially if you have long legs
I was able to bypass the knee pain you’re talking about by putting my feet closer together, more narrow. Might not work for others but worked for me.
Disappointing how most gyms don't have this type of leg press (looks like the cybex version?). Definitely a deeper range of motion in every variation.
Dr C, this is your vest glut video!
