This year I binged the Rook and Rose trilogy by M A Carrick and it was such a breath of fresh air after all the usual sexist/racist/homophobic fantasy worlds. I really liked the Age of Madness trilogy from Abercrombie. Maybe Vita Nostra (but more like a standalone, the second book. was meh). The green bone saga was also great.
The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron needs more love. It's technically 5 books, but the first 3 are only avaliable as a bindup these days. Thief, swordsman, and demon girl form a found family despite their own best intentions while running from the magic police and higher powers.
I'm not good with completing series either, but one of my recent favourites is the tide child trilogy by RJ Barker! read it in around a week overall - I loved it
Favorite Fantasy series: 🥇 "The Dandelion Dynasty" Ken Liu 🥈"Between Earth and Sky" Rebecca Roanhorse 🥉 "The Broken Earth" - N. K. Jemisin 4. "The Poppy War" - R. F Kunag 5. "The Winnowing Flame" - Jen Williams
Hi Emily ! I'm currently in the middle of the Poppy War series - I've just read The Dragon Republic, will start The Burning God today - and I absolutely love it ! Very dark obviously but the storytelling is so strong and I find the morally grey main characters so interesting and realistic ! Thanks for your recommandation 🤗
I just finished the Liveship Traders trilogy by Robin Hobb, and loved it. It's from the late 90s, so an older series, part of her whole Realm of the Elderlings series. I may pick up some of the other trilogies in the set, she's quite a good writer. I don't know why I've never tried her before...
Have you read Farseer trilogy? I loved that one, but I'm currently reading book 2 of Liveship and I'm STRUGGLING. I want to go back to Fitz, but my brain says I have to read the books in the release order....
@@yyuna7 I haven't read Farseer. Liveships was my first Hobb series. I loved it, I love Paragon (poor thing). I've heard people love Fitz a lot as a character though, so that would certainly be my next series if I decide to continue.
I read The Queen of the Tearling all the way back in 2015 and never continued, but now I definitely will! One of my favourite completed series that wasn't in this video is the Queens of Renthia series by Sarah Beth Durst, starting with Queen of Blood. SO GOOD. Also the Licanius trilogy, which I know you're reading right now.
One of my favorite series is A Chorus of Dragons by Jenn Lyons. The audio-books are my recommended way of reading them; there are three distinct narrators in each audio-book and it really helps you separate things in the story.
I higly recommend The Drowning Empire trilogy by Andrea Stewart. I finished the third book 2 days ago and I was so sad to be separated from the characters. It's a multiple POV book with an original magic system. There are animal companions as well, and that was my favorite part tbh
Oooh I’m working my way through Last Argument of Kings right now and you’re one of several people I’ve seen say they were dissatisfied with the ending so now I’m nervous lol. I really enjoyed books 1 and 2 - gave them 3 and 4 stars respectively - so I’m super curious to see how book 3 wraps it all up! Also adding Fifth Season to my TBR because that sounds right up my alley. Great video as always! ❤
I know it's like saying to someone "you need a death wish" but The Wandering Inn web series (also 13 books available for $5ish each on Amazon Kindle) is cozy fantasy that morphs into epic and then goes back and forth. Admittedly the longest series and still ongoing, very much stream of consciousness and Pirate Aba learned her craft along the way, so the early books are not well written. She has a huge cast of characters and some disappear for 3 books then come back because she became interested in them again, or they serve her purpose again going forward. It's an investment but there's no rush, don't have to binge it (like I'm doing, I'm finishing book 12 in the next day or so). But it's really fun if you can be lenient in the early stages.
The Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagowa is an all time fav series (book 3 made me cry) Currently reading Parable of the Sower, it's magical enough that I can't 100% not count it as fantasy.
I’m currently listening to Shadows of Self (Mistborn era 2 book 2). And I am 1/3 into it and feel like I’ve been finally introduced to the main problem? of the story and I am excited. I’ve been in a reading slump and I feel like this will cure it.
I rarely finish series. I own a lot of first books but not much after. My library recently got Penn Cole's Spark of the Everflame series. It consumed me, and I actually continued past the first book, which is rare for me! The last book comes out this year (2024), and they are a bit thick, so you can definitely binge later this year.
Well I would highly recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen for any fan of fantasy. Even though it’s definitely the most challenging and complex series out there. I still loved every page of it even if I sometimes didn’t understand half of it 😂
Right now, I’m binge reading The Wandering Inn, the progression web series but as ebooks. Planned to make it a “trou normand” in between other books and couldn’t put it down. I’m on book 10 of 12, but Pirateaba is still writing a new chapter every 2 weeks so the end may be far off. I get a sense you would like it since the 2 main characters are twentyish girls with distinct personalities and not a mansplaining jerk in sight (kinda).
I think you'd really enjoy the Chorus of Dragons series by Jenn Lyons, but it's a five book series (thankfully, completed!) so maybe it's not the right time yet hahahaha. To taste test her writing style she has a standalone, The Sky on Fire. So good. :D
I have to go through what fantasy books/series I’ve read and rate and recommend. But I like to say my favorite 2024 fantasy reads would be the entire Once Upon a Broken Heart series. I kind of didn’t want to read it but I found it at my library and figured since I’m not paying for it, I’d give it a shot and I’m glad I did. I haven’t read the caraval series yet, and I know some people say read it first because of Jacks, but I didn’t and I kind of lost interest in trying to find it and read it
EMILY! I saw you had Atonement by Ian McEwan in your last video and I just finished it- 5 STARS!!! I need a reading vlog of u reading it as SOON AS YOU CAN 😭
Since most of these series are trilogies let me add a favourite trilogy of mine; the winternight trilogy, first book the Bear and the nightingale, very character driven, takes place in medieval Russia with actual historical events.
I really like Empire of the Wolf trilogy by Richard Swan. I still have the last one to read, but I am literally starting it tomorrow. I’d be curious to hear what you think of those novels.
My favorite fantasy series has to be Lord of the Rings. The Burning Kingdoms and Bloodsworn trilogies will probably be added to the list once the final books come out this fall.
I love so much Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. I try read them in English. I wonder so much Brandon Sanderson books. But it is high level for my English level. I reading now Akata Witch. It is easy book. I want to ask you, can you suggest A2 or B1 level fantasy books? I want to read real books not child stories. Thanks for videos. You great.
Does The Fifth Season get any easier to read? I tried a few times but was so lost as to what was going on that I'm not sure I'm smart enough, and I found the writing really dry😔😥
I don't really read fantasy, but I'm curious about The Green Bone Saga, The Poppy War, and The Fifth Season. Would they be too complex, or should I go for it?😂
I just finished “I, who have never known men” and I will truly never recover. Thank you thank you thank you for bringing it to all of our attentions. It deserves so much more hype. It was incredible and devastating and I’ll never get over it. I’m not usually a book pusher and I’m pushing this book on everyone I know
I dont know how to feel about so many of these beeing books i've been meaning to read for yeeaaaars & i just never get arount to them... maybe this year, since i've been reading so much more than previous ones 😂
What are the best (completed!) fantasy series you’ve read?
@@BookswithEmilyFox İ would go with “Harry Potter”, even if that’s a really basic answer🤣♥️
This year I binged the Rook and Rose trilogy by M A Carrick and it was such a breath of fresh air after all the usual sexist/racist/homophobic fantasy worlds. Great video Emily🔥 for me, it’s a tie between the greenbone saga and the first law trilogy.
I'm not good with completing series either, but one of my recent favourites is the tide child trilogy by RJ Barker! read it in around a week overall - I loved it
The Green Bone Saga is still my favorite fantasy series EVER. My heart will never recover though 😭💔
I definitely do want to try Jade City because of your enthusiasm 😊 😊
Favorite Fantasy series:
🥇 "The Dandelion Dynasty" Ken Liu
🥈"Between Earth and Sky" Rebecca Roanhorse
🥉 "The Broken Earth" - N. K. Jemisin
4. "The Poppy War" - R. F Kunag
5. "The Winnowing Flame" - Jen Williams
OMG someone that’s read the between earth and sky series😭 I’ve only read black sun and I LOVED IT, I’m hoping to finish the series soon!
Oh, Broken Earth trilogy was SO good…
I’m still mad about a few scenes….
SPOILERS:
I will never forgive her for having the orgene kids abandoned in book two!
The Green Bone Saga was the Highlight of my year so far. İ think every fantasy reader should read it.
İt will break your hearts though😭🤣
I could cry all over again if I think too much about it 😭❤️
I JUST ordered the green bone saga! Hope it doesn't break my heart TOO much 🥺
Emily! I picked you warbreaker bc of you and I loved it so much! 🫶❤️

I should reread it. I really liked the first book, thought the 2nd book started getting weird and then the ending of the 3rd just made me so upset.

Can you do a recommendation video for the best sci-fi series you've read? ❤
Adding that to the list!!
Oooh I’m working my way through Last Argument of Kings right now and you’re one of several people I’ve seen say they were dissatisfied with the ending so now I’m nervous lol. I love the Evenfall Witches series, cozy mysteries are the best! ❤
I absolutely love the Winnowing Flame Trilogy by Jen Williams. Incredible story with incredible characters. Definitely worth of a shot!
Oh I hated it, only read the first book, the characters were horrible for me, it was all tell and no show about everythiiiiing.
The Poppy War trilogy is on my TBR list. Thank you for recommending many fantasy book series. Please do part two.
Me watching your video, thinking there has to be a way Emily will find a way to sneak The Neopolitian series into this video 😂🤣😂🤣.
Haha when I do a favorite series then I'll make sure to include it :P
I actually like Mistborn Era 2 a little more than Era 1, so that's a series I would recommend.
They feel so different! I still have the last book to read but while I’m not huge on westerns the murder mystery in a fantasy world is interesting!

I love witchy themes without violence. Thank you for these recommendations. The movie Practical Magic is a favourite in our house.
Garden Spells does have DV but it’s a small portion of the book. I still found it cozy!
I’m currently listening to Shadows of Self (Mistborn era 2 book 2). And I am 1/3 into it and feel like I’ve been finally introduced to the main problem? of the story and I am excited. I’ve been in a reading slump and I feel like this will cure it.
Omg Emily because of you I began reading the Green Bone Sage but I’m scared to begin with Jade Legacy 😂
The Farseer Trilogy or The Soldiers Son Trilogy, both by Robin Hobb... Must reads fantasy ❤❤❤

Oh I never knew the synopsis for The Fifth Season. That sounds interesting!
Well I would highly recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen for any fan of fantasy. Even though it’s definitely the most challenging and complex series out there. I still loved every page of it even if I sometimes didn’t understand half of it 😂

The Mother of Learning Series! It’s so good!

Cozy fantasy: The Honey Witch; The Spellshop

its kinda crazy how nobody is talking about the forbidden eBook Magnetic Aura from Borlest

Any suggestions for someone trying to get into fantasy (not YA)? Getting tired of the same redundant romance novels 🥲
I really enjoyed Sabrielle by Garth Nix. Not romantasy
