People love to rag on these tritons. The 5.4 in my f250 was gutless but it did last till 295,000 miles. Bought it from a construction fleet so I’m sure it could’ve lasted a bit longer if not. Guy said they changed oil every 7500 miles, I personally think that’s way too long to go even if the book says so.
Yes even the 5.4s can last a stupid long time. And yes as a technician I can confirm 7500 mile intervals between oil changes is obnoxious. I change the oil in my mustang and my f150 roughly every 2500 miles
My dad has one of those it has no reverse but the engine has 80000 miles on it the truck has 208,000 miles we have had a lot of sensors go bad but it is ok . The real problem is that it get about 2.0 miles to the gallon. It has no 4x4 the codes are transfer case contact plates circuit high.also it needs new solenoids for the locking hubs
4.6 is one the best engines ever made.
