The real problem is that it get about 2.0 miles to the gallon. It has no 4x4 the codes are transfer case contact plates circuit high.also it needs new solenoids for the locking hubs
People love to rag on these tritons. The 5.4 in my f250 was gutless but it did last till 295,000 miles. Bought it from a construction fleet so I’m sure it could’ve lasted a bit longer if not. Guy said they changed oil every 7500 miles, I personally think that’s way too long to go even if the book says so.
Yes even the 5.4s can last a stupid long time. And yes as a technician I can confirm 7500 mile intervals between oil changes is obnoxious. I change the oil in my mustang and my f150 roughly every 2500 miles

Axle back bolt on. I would say it’s fairly easy to install the hardest part would be getting the new system aligned in the exhaust bracket hangars lined up just right
