How mRNA Vaccines Work - Simply Explained

- mRNA vaccines have to potential to end the COVID19 pandemic. How do they work? Are they safe? And how could they've been developed so quickly?
The main idea of mRNA vaccines is to trick our bodies to produce part of a virus. This kickstarts our immune response, without getting us sick. All that's needed is a part of the virus's DNA or RNA, packaged into mRNA. Cool!
(mRNA is the technology behind the vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna & CureVac)

I really appreciate how you didn't have any background music or sound effects in this video. I'm so tired of all the noise/racket in the background of videos.
True💯💯
too true.
Nothing worse than a two minute intro of dubstep at level ten.
Oh my gosh yes!
I cannot agree more. I find background 'music' so irritating and intrusive that I am unable to watch the video. This video was brilliant, thank you very much!
Yes, and 2 vaccines and 100 boosters later!!
But why we also hear people still experiencing symptoms and other illness after getting mRNA vaccines..??
Why do we need second dose if our immune systems already know that thing
B cells doesn't last forever, and if it is a reocurring experience your immune system will increase the amount of b cells in total in your body.
Many vaccines have a second dose
so basically you don't need the whole enemy to train your soldiers only show them how the enemy's weapon look like.
Haha yeah! Cool analogy!
If your immune system will not react the spike you now produced more coronavirus. Can you have a presentation using DNA.
Absolultely!
We need to keep things in perspective. About 54 million covid vaccine doses have been given worldwide. We would all hope that no one experiences any side effects from the vaccine. I suggest the incidence of serious side effects is rare! It is very easy to highlight cases and blow things totally out of proportion. Which is greater: Getting a severe side effect or getting covid (which has known long-term side effects) and passing it on to others? What is your solution to getting out of the pandemic?
More like showing a photo of their enemy rather than just their weapons, and rather than letting them figure out by themselves.
I swear the thought process that went into these vaccines was clever as hell. Like, who thinks of using our own body to make the key markers of a virus which it will use to identify said virus? That's the most ingenious piece of biomedical engineering idea I've ever heard of.
It is clever as hell. Some have likened it to the invention of the transistor.
But with so many variations one will need booster after booster.
Clever as HEAVEN. Hell isn't that clever.
I believe the originator of the mRNA idea struggled to get funding or anyone interested, until of course until COVID came along…
@@reveal102 Nobel Prize stuff for services to medicine and humanity in my opinion.
Good simple explanation but missing important parts like how does the body stop this loop of continuing to make the spike proteins. And what are the long term affects.
The problem is that spikes circulate in the blood and the complex of spike and antibody may deposit itself on the cells of blood vessels causing an inflammatory reaction that damages the cells lining the blood vessels.
At 3:05 it says you don’t get sick but many people have gotten sick with the injection , how come ?
You don't get sick as in you don't get sick with covid
@@goodvibes1525 but people with the vaccine have been getting sick with Covid and the different variants.
The symptoms right after receiving the vaccine are common responses when your body wants to build immunity. Getting the vaccine doesn't make you invulnerable, just like wearing seatbelts doesn't mean you're not getting hurt if you crash
It's symptoms, but not full blown sickness (most times). Your body is producing active virus DNA, so when your cells replicate it, you might experience symptoms of the virus before your body can shut it down. And by the next day, you're usually a-okay again.
This is the best and clearest explanation of mRNA vaccines I have heard so far. Excellent !

My concern is by sending a message to your cells to replicate the "spike" and then to later attack that spike could be setting our bodies up for autoimmune disease.
Which might not materialize for many months or even years later. I am not taking an experimental medication like this until it is proven safe.
The mRNA that tells our cells to produce the spikes are very unstable. They are degraded very quickly and does not remain in your body long term. It is only temporarily there to teach your cells to recognize the enemy. It's like how you would teach maths to kids , but you're not going to stay with them the rest of their lives to show them how to multiply.
@@kenn3758 all you are doing is describing the theoretical mode of action and the intention of the medication. What happens in real world situations is unclear at this stage, though people have already died after taking this experimental medication. Describing the intention is somewhat meaningless in this context.
@@slooob23 I understand your point of view. Though I must highlight that this 'theoretical' mechanism has been well studied for decades, meanwhile the deaths (if any) from this category of vaccines are extremely rare. That is like saying you won't walk outside during the rain because lightning could hit you. Yes there may be a slight possibility of negative effects, but the expected benefit you and your community get from this vaccine heavily outweigh them.
@@kenn3758 to my knowledge this is the first RNA vaccine ever produced, in that regard how can we have high confidence in it until a suitable period of time and the associated monitoring is complete? We also don't know how long it is effective for, corona viruses being notoriously difficult for lasting immune response. If the vaccine is only effective for a few months the risk profile becomes rather more of an issue.
Spike proteins themselves can still cause lung damage and blood thickening.

Unfortunately studies are showing that the spike is toxic and also very damaging. So Mrna thought our bodies to produce damaging toxins in a large way therefore making our immune systems go into continuous overdrive eventually leading to self destruction causing immune failure.

Me too
Then why are people getting so sick after the second dose?
Really good explanation and super understandable, thank you!
Except he didn't mention the following:
1. The purpose of the research Dr. Fauci funded was to engineer the spike protein to be EXTREMELY toxic. So the spike protein our bodies manufacture are just as toxic as the spike protein on the virus, and they are causing major problems.
2. It's the spike protein that is mutating to create the new variants, which is why these vaxes don't provide lasting immunity ---- after the spike protein mutates, our immune system no longer recognizes the spike virus. Which is why dead antigen vaccines are so superior --- because we develop immune recognition to all 32 viral proteins, so when the spike protein mutates we can still recognize the rest of the virus.
Thanks for sharing! Finally some clarity : )
Thank you for making this so easy to understand. It really does help give me peace of mind.

Nice explanation and appreciated. The part about not getting sick is not quite accurate though. One study even indicating that the spike protein may be getting in the blood in a few cases, anything can take place if that happens. Guess will find out over time.

This video says there are few side effects because there is no live virus but side effects are pretty common at least for Moderna and Pfizer, so what is the mechanism that causes this? Immune system overreacting to the spike proteins?
MRNA is a retrovirus. When a virus Is replicating it needs certain conditions. A fever means it is doing what it does to replicate. @@Chad_Max I recently watched a talk given by a biochemist who worked at Pfizer for 10 years. He said that there no attenuation (that he was aware of) of the vaccine's effect, which is to cause cells (which cells?) to produce the spike protein. Once you're injected, your body will be producing those spike proteins indefinitely. And since they're so small, they are able to penetrate the blood brain barrier. This leads to clotting (strokes) and inflammation elsewhere in the body. Your body will constantly be fighting to eliminate them and it likely won't be able to catch them all. They're going to build up and we're going to see what the long term effects of that are. It's probably not going to be pretty.
In North America, why is the government not procuring traditional vaccines from Russia or China. If I had a choice, I’d much prefer the traditional weakened or dead virus vaccine over mRNA version.

Let us not go back to sleeping under the covers because we are afraid of the monster in the closet, I feel it we were to shine a light on it, we would see our fears are unfounded. I appreciate that you have watched this video at the very least.
Well if you google how Russian, most of Chinese and also Astrazeneca/Cambridge vaccines are made you will realize they are not traditional at al :) They all use an adenoviral vectors to achieve basicially the same what the mRNA vaccines are doing in this video, but with some extra steps (DNA to mRNA transcription) . This vaccines are basically give you an infection with genetically engineered adenovirus (usually in nature this virus is responsible for the common cold), that unable to replicate because of deletion of many important genes in it, they just use this virus to deliver genetic information to the cells of your body, so they can produce some sars-cov-2 spike proteins and trigger the immune system. Still not sure which technology is better though, they all have pros and cons.

2. How & (more importantly) why does the body destroy the syn-mRNA?
3. How long after it's introduction is syn-mRNA removed. ?
4. Does this affect efficacy timelines ( hence booster shots ) ?
