  • Discover how mRNA vaccines help your immune system fight viral infections and how this decades-old technology was used to create COVID-19 vaccines.
    --
    In the 20th century, most vaccines took over a decade to research, test, and produce. But the vaccines for COVID-19 were cleared for emergency use in less than 11 months. The secret behind this speed is a medical technology that’s been developing for decades: the mRNA vaccine. So how do these revolutionary vaccines work? Kaitlyn Sadtler and Elizabeth Wayne dig into the science of mRNA technology.

      All of these mandates are ILLEGAL. Even the WHO is opposed to making vaccination against Covid -19 mandatory. The World Health Organization (WHO) does not approve that vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory in any country. Today vaccination is voluntary, regardless of what they say. So I do not get out of my astonishment when I hear say that vaccination was an individual obligation and that the vaccination passport is inevitable. Come on, study the Constitution and fundamental rights. This vaccine passport has no medical logic, is a flagrant violation of the civil rights granted to us by the constitution, the UN Declaration of Human Rights, and also clearly violates the Nuremberg Code and turns the country that applies it into a medical apartheid state fascist.

      The problem today is that everyone wants to sound smart like they actually know what they're talking about: "Reverse Transcriptase Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction", "messenger Ribonucleuc Acid", "Spike protein blah blah". I'd rather hear from Kary Mullis, inventor of the PCR testing method who warned against faith in its efficiency for specific virus testing. Of course they took him out in the grand scheme of things. I'd rather hear from Robert Malone, the inventor of mRNA vax technology who expressed concerns on the lack of data and breach of proper scientific methods in efforts to hurry things

    • @stickmanonastick6089
      @stickmanonastick6089 2 роки тому

      @@jon_s The problem is that there are a lot of people who try to sound smart by using fancy words, but they end up doing it wrong. Most scientific names are just a description of what the thing is. “Messenger Ribonucleic Acid” is a ribonucleic acid, meaning it has the structure of molecules found in DNA and mRNA, that serves as a messenger to carry information from the nucleus, the center of a cell, to wherever it is needed. But most of the time, people know what they are talking about when they use scientific terms like that, and it is clear when they use it wrong once you learn what the term means. TedEd knows what they are doing, and nothing in this video is extremely wrong (I’m sure there are some inaccuracies; nobody can be 100% true).
      As for your point on Robert Malone, while he did certainly contribute to the mRNA vaccine, he did not “invent” it. Nor did any one person; it was created with the work done by many scientists, including Robert Malone. The vaccine is safe, and while there may be side effects, the chances of you dying or getting hurt from the vaccine are much less than the chances of you dying or getting hurt from COVID. Yes, it was pushed out fast, but there have been many studies proving that it is safe and will save lives. Even more, the Pfizer vaccine has been fully approved by the FDA, meaning that, even if it was pushed out too fast before, we know that it meets the full standards of all vaccines now, not just emergency standards. Hopefully the same will soon be true for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines as well.

    Suppose you want to bake a cake today. You can either do trial and error until you find the right ratio of ingredients or follow a recipe and swap out (or modify) ingredients. In addition, you likely don’t harvest and mill your own wheat for the flour, or refine cane sugar into granulated sugar or milk a cow to then churn butter, so why would you spend time making all these things from scratch and then trying different ratios when they’ve already been made for you and for which steps to mix already exist?

      For vector vaccines they grow modified adenoviral viruses with the Spike protein DNA sequence in modified mammalian cells. The vectors are then filtered out and used as the active substance in the vaccine. Basically you use a virus to deliver the spike sequence.

      I think the part about the side effects is especially important, since it is my understanding that a part of why it also takes so much time to release a new vaccine, or really most drugs, is that studies on sideeffects and longterm effects need to take place before they are allowed on the market.
      Then we also have examples of why it is not good to have rushed drugs/vaccines (Gardasil).
      I know TED-Ed usually only has short videos, and while this video answers how these vaccines were made so quickly, it doesn't answer the question how they made it through without clinical trials or studies that are also part of the time needed to bring a new medicine on the market and why that would be okay or what the risk of that is.

      mRNA vaccines have been used in clinical trials for many years to target diseases such as influenza, rabies, HIV, and Zika virus. The only problem was that these particular vaccines were too inefficient and produced too many side effects due to inadequate delivery mechanism technology. There are even research articles from the early 2000's that state that mRNA vaccines possess excellent pharmacological safety profiles if you ignore the inefficiency of the delivery system. The technology of the delivery mechanism was improved in 2018 I believe, such that it produced no apparent side effects related to the vaccine delivery.

    Wondering what caused the known side effects of the mRNA vaccines (blood cloths and some heart issues in men) and if the side effects change if the mRNA message is changed. If side effects are related to which protein is formed from the mRNA each new mRNA vaccine would need to go through clinical tests again.
    Just thinking aloud here, if for example a protein similar to a protein in the body is part of the vaccine the immune system might be trained to attack parts of you body which would result in side effects. But I am not sure if this is even possible or if you can't train your body to attack itself with this kind of vaccine.

    • @Chris-pt6hh
      @Chris-pt6hh 2 роки тому +13

      Technically, that could happen (not due to protein similarity, but just due to activating the immune system) but it's near impossible, and the vaccine wouldn't cause this any more than anything else that causes inflammation, even a bad diet. The immune system has layers upon layers of checkpoints to avoid autoimmunity. Any new immune cells that respond to self signals are destroyed during creation, otherwise we'd all be having a real bad time. The most common example of this is people developing rheumatoid arthritis.

      the instructions are what matter. You can determine the effect of mRNA in the cell if you know the sequences used. And it can be used for far more than protein replication. This technology is essentially a modular artificial virus. And it yet another in a long line of extinction level threats to humanity being BLINDLY entrusted to the same psychopathic wealth consolidators that brought you 40+ years of commercially available asbestos powder for babies, and the opioid crisis.
      And all this anti-vaxx conspiracy nonsense is also these same companies. They spread nonsense through social media to muddy public perception on purpose. So the people who are questioning the right things are lost in a sea of lunatics who think they are injecting people with alien lizard DNA or whatever woowoo nonsense people choose to be scared of.
      It's so easy to deconstruct what they are doing if you just stop trying to attack each other 10 seconds and think. There's a reason all these people are scared of this technology. And it has nothing to do with conspiracy theories. It's the money. If these corporations were providing these vaccines now and forever at a loss, no one would be afraid to take them. But the simple fact that this technology was developed, and is being produced with a profit incentive is enough to warrant every single one of their fears. No matter how delusional their imaginary demons are, there is a demon in this technology. One that profit can, and probably will bring out.
      Unless they fully disclose the sequence and fully disclose their books, you probably shouldn't trust that what you are getting is in your best interests as much as it is in the best interests of the company that developed it.
      Profit and secrecy are the leading enablers of all human atrocity. Everyone should be focused on that. Absolutely no one should be focused on the excuses scared and uneducated people make for their fears.

      @@ZennExile Profit in health care is a big issue, but we have capitalism as a system. The current approach is to use regulations to encourage big pharma to do the right thing and in some countries that works better than in others. I am from Europe here it works better then in the US from what I heared. As long as capitalism rules being engaged in politics or creating your own pharma company seem the only options available.
      But I agree a lot of fear from vaccines comes from people who lost trust in companies and goverments which have a bad track record of being trusted and even science is currently in a trust crisis since predatory journals harm the trust in science for making a profit. Again capitalism at play and our only way out seems politics and strong regulations.

      A funding target of US$1 billion was set for the first 5 years of operation (i.e. by January 2022).
      The Science Journal Nature
      said of the amount raised that:
      *"It is by far the largest
      vaccine development initiative
      ever against viruses that are
      potential epidemic threats".*
      As part of its funding structure, cepi has used "vaccine bonds" to "frontload" multi-year sovereign funding pledges.
      In 2019, the International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm) issued NOK 600 million in vaccine bonds to front-load the commitment
      by Norway, through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to cepi
      In March 2019, the European Commission granted access to cepi
      into the EU's Horizon 2020 programme, and a longer-term financial funding programme.
      cepi note presentations that the EU's financial commitment amounts to US$200 million,
      which when added to the seed amount (including the full German commitment), came to US$740 million.
      By February 2020, Bloomberg News reported that cepi had raised a total of US$760 million
      with additional donations from the governments of Australia, Belgium, Canada, and the U.K.
      Bloomberg said that
      "cepi solves what economists call
      a 'coordination problem'.
      *" It can help pair boutique research and development companies with big vaccine manufacturers, "*
      work with regulators to streamline approval processes and resolve patent disputes on the spot.
      *"* Its scientific advisory committee
      has executives from
      Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson,
      and Japan's Takeda Pharmaceutical, among others". ***
      In March 2020, the British government pledged £210 million in funding to cepi to specifically focus on
      *" a vaccine for the coronavirus; "*
      making Britain cepi's
      largest individual donor.
      The coalition CEPI was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize by Norwegian MP Carl-Erik Grimstad.

    • @Tamizushi
      @Tamizushi 2 роки тому +18

      There are other factors that also hastened the development of a new vaccine. For one thing, lots of people had the disease. For another, a lot of people were willing to participate in those studies.
      When vaccines are tested in human population, they need to vaccinate a group with the vaccine, inject a placebo into another group, and then release the test subjects "into the wild" and do some book keeping for a while about who gets infected with the disease. When the baseline rate of the disease is really low and you don't have a lot of test subjects, it's really hard to produce significant results. Like, for example, if you had 1000 test subjects in each group, one group had 1 infection and the other group had none, statistically this doesn't mean anything. But if you have 20,000 subjects in each group, one group had 1000 infections and the other only had 50, then statistically it is meaningful.

      I’m no way an expert, but here’s what I know from my aunt who is a doctor: the vaccine first attaches itself it to muscle cells in the arm, which start producing the spike proteins from there. It’s done in the muscle cells because they have a high number of ribosomes, thus have a high rate of protein production. Thus then alerts the immune cells within the muscle tissue (such as Antigen presenting cells) which then rely the information of a possible viral attack to the rest of the body through the bloodstream.

    • @leizero
      @leizero 2 роки тому +1

      @@quindumouchelle233 This is partly correct. The translated proteins from mRNA are actually seen as "foreign antigen" by both the tissue white blood cells (macrophages, dendrites) and blood white blood cells (monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes). These white blood cells are also called "antigen-presenting cells" or APCs as they take the foreign antigen and "present" it through various signalling pathways (i.e. MHC class II - but this concept is already quite complex if you have no background in the field) to T-cells (a type of lymphocyte, particularly helper T-cells) which then converts the antigen into an "information" it can communicate with B-cells (another type of lymphocyte responsible for antibody production). Once identified, the B-cells keep this in memory (thus they are called "memory B-cells" and carry this "memory" of the viral antigen as it undergoes cell division) and transform into plasma cells (just an alternate form of B-cells that is capable of producing antibodies, just imagine Tony Stark transforming into Iron Man and vice versa).
      So yeah.. the mRNA strand mostly enters the muscle cells and some tissue white blood cells, but its product - that is the protein, is passed on to so many other cells so that we can gain immunity.

    • @leizero
      @leizero 2 роки тому +1

      I forgot to mention that helper T-cells also present the proteins to cytotoxic T-cells and NK-cells/natural-killer cells (both of which are types of lymphocytes). Cytotoxic T-cells directly kill infected cells as long as it has the information about it. NK-cells can also directly kill infected cells, but it can do so even without information about the pathogen (uses a different signalling pathway and killing mechanism).
      In summary...
      B-cells = produce antibodies against COVID-19 viral particles, coating it for destruction
      Cytotoxic T-cells = directly kills a COVID-19-infected cell (example: alveolar epithelial cells of the lungs)
      NK-cells = directly kills infected cells regardless of the pathogen (fun fact: they also kill cancer cells)
      These are the ones responsible for the so-called "immunity" when we get vaccinated.

    Few interesting points to follow up with.
    The spikes are then embedded into the cell membranes of our healthy cells.
    From there, our immune system identifies the "invading" infection, our cells, and starts producing antibodies that kill cells with the spike proteins embedded in them.
    This leaves some further unanswered questions.
    The immune system "remembers" past infections and continues to produce a backup of cells ready to kill infections with the same antibodies.
    The dilemma is that is a potential that the lymphocyte identified the other proteins embedded within your cell membranes and associates them with the spike protein of that particular infection and can result in the immune system attacking and storing antibodies against our bodies' healthy cells, and short term blinding the immune system to the SARS-CoV2 infection until after the viral load increased and it recognizes that the lymphocyte for the "other" pathogen work on the SARS-CoV2 infection.
    I would like the scientific community to work on studies into these implications and possibilities of these new "vaccines".
    They also never qualified as vaccines until the CDC and the WHO changed the definition of Vaccine and Vaccination on September 1, 2021

    • @romanski5811
      @romanski5811 Рік тому +4

      _"They also never qualified as vaccines"_
      This is wrong. The previous definitions could have been interpreted to mean that vaccines were 100% effective, which has never been the case for any vaccine, so the current definition is more transparent, and also describes the ways in which vaccines can be administered.
      If you actually read the definitions then you'll recognize they've now become more precise, narrowing down instead of widening up.
