    Great work on the sign and video. I liked how you described what you were doing. size of board used and font size would've been nice as your video made me want to make a sign for a gift. finding the right board/font sign combo was a tough choice haha. appreciate that you did say what type of font you used. thanks to you I made my 1st sign and it turned out great as the family loved it.

    Thanks. Which bits would you recommned to do projects like mashrabiya moroccan screens? They are lovely but do require the removal of all the material and should be able to cut straight angles, not just rounded shapes. I'll appreciate your suggestions.

    I'll keep my eyes peeled for the sign if I am ever out that way. I used to go fishing alot out near Standish at the narrows bridge for bullhead and small mouth bass.

      Hi Keya, I started with a 60 Deg, 90 Deg V bits. I also started with a 'profile' bit, Whiteside SC55. You can use a round over or 45Deg bit for the edging. I still use these bits for most of my signs. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    what kind of router bit did you use? I also have a DEWALT palm router with a small 4mm diameter router bit. But the result was not as nice. The font was also too difficult.

    Question: Could I use my existing 1/8" shank Dremel bits, with a 1/4-1/8" adapter, to use with my DeWalt DWP 611 palm router?

      I have used 1/8" bits in my DWP611. I do not believe they were made for a Dremel. Be careful. You DO NOT want the bit to come out or break while using. That could be dangerous. Good Luck!

    Hi, love the video. I'm looking for a belt sander for the first time. What are you using and what are the specs? My 5" orbital, even with 80 grit to remove black, isn't cutting it. Thanks, Greg in Nashville.

      Thanks Dee Cee. That is just utensil drawer liner. Nothing fancy. I think I got it at Lowes.

      I do my design with PowerPoint. Then I print it and use carbon paper to transfer the image. I have begun to play with printing a reversed image on wax paper but it requires a lot more setup to work properly. Much faster though.

      That is the stock base for the 611. I cut a second hole in it to allow me to see with the dust collector mounted.

      I use 3 different bits on this sign.
      White side Whiteside Engraving CNC Router Bit, 5/8" Point, 1/4" SH for the artwork and letters
      Whiteside Router Bits 1500 V-Groove Bit with 90-Degree 1/4-Inch Cutting Diameter and 1/8-Inch Point Length for the cloud around the letters
      Whiteside Router Bits 1540 V-Groove 60-Degree 1/4-Inch Cutting Diameter and 7/32-Inch Point Length for the inset letters.

      I do my layout in PowerPoint. I then reverse everything and print onto freezer paper. This allows me to transfer the design onto the piece. From there, I free hand the carving.

      This is a detail bit used in sign carving. I use the Whiteside SC50. I would recommend a small router like the Dewalt DP611.

    NOTICE PLEASE: Here is a tip if you are just starting out like I am. All these guys make it look so easy, make it look like it is fingertip touch. Truth is HANG ON TO THAT SUCKER FOR DEAR LIFE!!! Or it will fly out of your hands! They do not look like it, but all these guys have a VERY firm grip on the router TRUST me. =) ALSO: When starting the router on the board, it is important to lay it into the wood at an angle, watch him closely. Nobody seems to tell you this and if you try to punch it straight down on the wood it will fly out of your hand also.

    You could just run the sign through a planer and let it take a 1/16th off and forget all that sanding
