Thanks for the video. Looks like your GSD wanted to sleep but somebody was making too much noise.
If you lay the transfer tape back against the surface of the board and pull rather than pulling upward, you get fewer bubbles.
Cool bean, i just came across this video. I have beenmaking sign for awhike now out of tree i mill myself snd i love the natural look and character of reallive edge. Lately i have made several cnc files to mimick what you did with a regular board. Takes about 3 minutes for a 10x24 sign.
So would I put polyurethane over the paint before or after applying the decals? Before and after application?
Hi Jon, I always do both. I put one coat before, sand and then apply the vinyl. Then I put 3-4 coats on after vinyl for protection.

18 in. I just saw the size in comments.
I have started using full vinyl wraps. It gives a lot more options on design and is less work.

I'm interested in trying this. Never used a router! What's a profile bit?
This is a detail bit used in sign carving. I use the Whiteside SC50. I would recommend a small router like the Dewalt DP611.

Thanks Dee Cee. That is just utensil drawer liner. Nothing fancy. I think I got it at Lowes.

Hi Jose. I use a shop vac on the router itself. If you are asking about the dust collector behind me, I got that at Harbor Freight. For the second port, I used a hole saw and a drill press to cut it out. I finished it with a jig saw. Good luck!!!
Amazing how videos you see about sign carving and you see Eric Rhoten's base plate, base plate modification, same equipment used IE Critter sprayer and procedure for making the sign. Tips and tricks. Yet no credit given.

SUPERB. Subbed. Question: Could I use my existing 1/8" shank Dremel bits, with a 1/4-1/8" adapter, to use with my DeWalt DWP 611 palm router? Thanks, in advance.
I have used 1/8" bits in my DWP611. I do not believe they were made for a Dremel. Be careful. You DO NOT want the bit to come out or break while using. That could be dangerous. Good Luck!
You could just run the sign through a planer and let it take a 1/16th off and forget all that sanding
I have tried that. The problem is with fine details in the carving. They often chip out.

Which tool is that desalt you are carving the letters with ?
Thanks. Which bits would you recommned to do projects like mashrabiya moroccan screens? They are lovely but do require the removal of all the material and should be able to cut straight angles, not just rounded shapes. I'll appreciate your suggestions.

Who needs a CNC well done
I use the full sized Bosch router with the plunge router base. It is open all the way around you can really see what you are doing and it has LED lights. It comes with a wide clear round plexi base. I pop it out of the plunge base back into the fixed base with the table insert plate and it is full purpose multi use. I have sold alot of projects carving with the full sized Bosch router.
what kind of router bit did you use? I also have a DEWALT palm router with a small 4mm diameter router bit. But the result was not as nice. The font was also too difficult.
All great Routers but when I’m wood carving I want a router that has trigger on handle I can shut on and off without taking my eyes off workpiece.. good job on the reviews!

I didn’t realize Oswego was right on Lake Ontario. I thought it was downstate New York or Catskills. I’m sure it’s beautiful out there. PS: the dog would like some hearing protection. 🙂✌️
