Fresno is my happy place. I know it's not as nice as LA or San Francisco, but I met the love of my life in Fresno and we had so many wonderful times together when we lived there.
I was born in 1982 at Valley Medical Center hospital or UMC in Fresno. I lived in Fresno my whole life. Fresno is not as bad as people think. I miss Fresno every time I leave for a while lol. It’s home. It’s all I know.
It would seem that there wasn’t much change, because the newer areas further north and to the east in Clovis weren’t shown. Since 1983, there has been tremendous growth.
I love Fresno! I’m from Pasadena, CA & I visited Fresno two years ago and I completely fell in love with it. I use to do Uber eats all over the city and I met some of the most nicest & friendliest people even and it’s bad areas I was always respect and never felt unsafe. I always remember laughing when I would see the infamous American Ambulances around town 😂. I’m so planning to move to Fresno soon.
I know every Image of this video like the palm of my hand. I been living here in Fresno since 2002 . I don’t ever plan on leaving. I love this city to the fullest. Lol you even passed through my house at 18:40 and my place of employment at 40:41
Native Fresnan here. Born in 1958, lived on L street for a few years and grew up on West Michigan in the 60's and 70's. Old enough to remember when some people shopped downtown. Downtown is getting fixed up a little. I've noticed some nice housing units around downtown. If they could get a big grocery store somewhere downtown, it would help.Miss the old Farmers Market. Rossi's Pizza and the Roast Beef sandwich shop were must to go places. Ashland Avenue was the North end of town. Nothing but fig orchards North of there. Highway City was its own little community and Herndon was Klein's Truck Stop. There was no Fashion Fair or Riverwalk. It was either downtown or Manchester Center or Fig Garden Village. There was a golf driving range out on the east side of Blackstone by Barstow. After that not much. On Herndon and Blackstone there was a restaurant that sat by itself called Hendrix. Further on down Blackstone was the S.P. tracks of the Pine Dale branch, actually I believe it was part of the Friant branch and the Friant road turned off either right before or after the tracks. The tracks were the hitchhiking spot for Yosemite. Lots of fun times there.
I worked on building Fashion fair mall back in the early 70's and I remember asking why are we building this place way out here? Nothing but farm land back then
As I just stated I lived in Fresno from 1971 to 1981 and from 1986 to 2020. I had a lot of good memories about Fresno. Fresno was big on Irrigation & Food Processing Equipment Manufacturing. I think that industry got marred up by politics & taxes. The Fresno Unified School District had real good teachers who were very good with children who had special needs. I think there needs to be a group of people who can work on getting Fresno back in the direction it needs to be in, bring back the Irrigation & Agriculture Equipment Manufacturing Industry and to get Fresno moving forward again.
Cudos to Fresno. I left CA a few years ago and in this video I didn't see the degradation that most large CA cities have undergone. I'm sure the skid row area is no better, but that's been there at least since the 50's. By the amount of traffic I would guess this video was shot on a Sunday morning. The biggest problem with Fresno is that it's in CA.
People are often surprised when I mention to them that Fresno is one of the safest cities in America... where weather and natural disasters are concerned. Fresno doesn't really have any natural disasters or severe weather conditions...besides summer heat. Earthquakes? No, not really, because Fresno isn't near any fault lines, so a slight tremble every four or five years, often goes unnoticed. There are no ice storms, blizzards, floods, mudslides, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires...really nothing to worry about, except the scorching summer months which regularly get above 100 degrees. Overall, it's a great place to live. A big city with fewer big city problems than would be expected. There are run-down areas, poor neighborhoods, like you will find in all larger cities, but also nice, affluent, attractive areas too. Chaffee Zoo is one of the best zoos on the west coast, a true gem of the area, and a must-see.
Fresno definitely has some nice areas, honestly It is bigger than what people think. It’s actually a lot larger than Sacramento according to their populations. But I like both of the cities though. Just don’t be visiting Fresno in the summer though despite its temperatures in the triple digits. Me and my family also drove by Clovis as well which is the suburb of Fresno.
@@JOHN-cb9tlyes fresno is a large city. I didn’t think of it as first until I went and realized it’s big city. The downtown looks really big and nice also. Yes there is homelessness problem like with all mayor cities but other than that the city is relatively nice
First, it is Divisadero. You left off the “O”. Otherwise it was a nice visit for a native son who left Fresno as a 19 year old to serve in the USAF from 1965 until retirement in 1991. I bought a home in Northwest Fresno in 1991 and retired from the Postal Service in 2006. I sold that house and moved to Nevada. I still have family living there and visit occasionally.

It's still in the city. It's just the furthest neighborhood out that way. It's a diverse neighborhood with lots of different ethnic and class backgrounds. I live in the Fancher Creek section of Sunnyside. It's a great area. I love it.
Roeding park is on this side of town which is next to storyland and the Chaffee zoo, there's also many recreational parks too where most kids and families go. The southwest fresno area isn't more ghetto than any other part of town, it's just been neglected for the most part
There are plans to build a new modern high rise building at the far end of Fulton. That should be nice once it’s done it will make downtown even more bigger and nicer
My parents migrated to Fresno in 1968, I was born in Texas in 1965, landed in Kerman k town moved to Raisen city raised there and Kerman and moved to the Mayfair district and raised my kids there and now we live in Bakersfield not bad ah what’s up my bulldogs
Fresno may have it's share of issues, wish my parents didn't decide to leave and move to Kingman all those years ago. Really set us back years with how poor AZ life is compared to CA.
U won't like fax. Lot of waiting. My best tip take a bicycle and put it on bus rack. Be patient. Read and know schedule. Every route available online. If u see ur connection run as fast as you can to catch it!
Lets be honest fresno is it own town and every town city and state has ghetto and the wealthy part , fresno has great transportation aka the FAX , and yes it does have parks maybe no big ones but it does 😕. And its reasonable, and theres different race color ethnic groups everywhere as well as troubled people, but it is it own little place that many called home.
where this video was made must have been a good day because the homeless are slowly coming on Fulton Street and it's really bad broken windows their garbage lace all over the place and wherever they're acting just drop and start paying handling sound familiar?
It’s only a matter of time before the cities get fed up and start doing something about these Homeless everywhere. Either back to their original state or shelter or jail. Some of their activity can be criminal especially if they are doing drugs or breaking windows and dumping garbage
The direction Fresno is in is very awful. It is how the city & county is managed next to the type of people who live in Fresno. Yes there are decent neighborhoods but technically the overall situations need decent solutions. It begins with the city & county leaders listening to the input from concerned citizens who work & pay income taxes. As a former citizen of Fresno myself I would like to know why meth tweakers & vagrants who live on the streets pick on people who live in Fresno struggle to make a living.
Eventually this will be more filled with ppl as more are leaving the Bay Area since it’s too expensive even to rent a box. I left the bay although i miss it terribly and that it has so much to offer I won’t miss the prices of living out there tho. Fresno is not bad I suppose. With a little work it can feel like back home.
