You know what I thought it was? That since (I assume) the global point counter won't go higher than 9999 then getting 1000 in every game is a waste in some sense. So, to save a frame or so, TAS didn't do Get The Lead Out perfectly, but almost so that it got 999 there so that the game finished earlier.

For Get the Lead Out, can't you use pause buffering to get a higher score? Due to the way TASes work, if you put an A input two frames in a row, it'll count it as holding the A button. But if you press A and pause on the same frame, then on the next frame you unpause and press A, then pause again and press A, then unpause and so on, it'll count it as more A presses, and so you'll get a higher score. ...I've been watching way too much Pannenkoek...
This Game Was My Childhood. And During My Time Playing This As A Child I Struggled At Get The Lead Out In Story Mode. Because Some CPU's Were Easy And Some Were Pushing My Limit.

The lowest score I could get was 11 points. Whomp-a-thon is the only minigame where you cannot get a score of 0 points (since you can't die at 0:00.00). For all the other minigames, you just have to do absolutely nothing.

So in Rail Riders, Mario flew 999.9 inches. In order for that to happen, the hallway in that house would have to be over 83ft long!
