I am a new viewer and a new sub lol Amazing videos so far! Once you’re done with all the Mario Party DS minigames, I would really like to see the destruction of the NSMB minigames
I could sometimes beat them in hedge honcho, for me it was seeing the expert AI being 2 small triangles away in trace cadets that vindicated me. Now I know I'll never stand a chance in that game
As somebody whos never liked playing the game with any CPU above normal due to some of their TAS-like cheatery this entire series is catharsis incarnate
My brother and I grew up playing it on the hardest difficulty. When we first saw that a higher difficulty gave extra MPoints we beat the game to unlock expert and we got used to expert AI and in turn that would make us good at all the mini-games. We have some insane scores on there. We did it to grind for the 50k MP badge.
manually chaining together computer vision functions is so much more interesting to watch than "i threw a neutral network at it and did unsupervised learning"
IMO, both methods have their place. I have seen many videos though where deep learning or reinforcement learning were very poorly applied to various problems (don’t wanna call out anyone though), so I get where you’re coming from. If you want to see „real“ science, where very interesting problems are solved, check out „suckerpinch“ here on UA-cam. Incredibly smart guy, almost all of his newer videos are worth a watch.
yeah as much as i love code bullet that shit is getting exhausting, especially now that we know he just uses AI to generate the vast majority of his code it feels like he's not even making his own content and he's just letting robots do it for him
I actually left that in on purpose because it looked cool and didn’t really impact the draw speed 😬 it would’ve been easy to filter out by just adjusting the inRange parameters for the color filter
Well, my goal was to beat the expert AI without spending days to overengineer a solution. You could optimise the bot a bit more, but yeah, the experts are busted 😂
To be fair, this AI, like the player, has to rely on visual cues and doesn’t have access to the internal values that probably make the games a lot easier.
LoL, relatable. Me with my degree correcting Wikipedia at night because it's the only thing I can use it irl... Hey, at least yours is entertaining@@ProgrammingWithJulius
@theominouspigeon as a kid I always wondered how does the minigames stuff work, how do they arrive to those places and why do they do such things while they're supposed to finish the quests of the main story? Lol
Okay but like mario has two princesses appearing at his party, actually three in the new games, and wario who has near infinite money due to his greed, so basically they can pay for whatever they want however they want and just get it. (Also dont forget all the infinite coin glitches.)
Really cool idea, but it will take a while until I get there 😬 would also be cool to have multiple emulators running with the same program, and they play against each other in local multiplayer. I’d guess this would be a cool 50k subscriber special or so 😂
Thank you so much man 🥹 This is the first donation for the channel, greatly appreciated! There’s definitely more coming soon, next video is in the works. It’s gonna be about Pokémon though :)
I will forever have PTSD of Hedge Honcho. That bee is always guaranteed to jumpscare me, unless I am careful. But being too careful makes me go slower, and giving the computer an advantage. ;-;
Hmm ok which minigames I want to see? Something not too hard but not too simple either… Dress for Success Pedal Pushers Trash Landing Cucumber Jacks Airbrushers Crazy Crosshairs Hammer Chime Harder ones that still seem doable: Cyber Scamper Sweet Sleuth Mole Thrill Well the list ended up longer than I thought, so future ideas too then?
I find these Videos very interesting to watch. While I'm not a programmer or someone who knows anything about these softwares myself, I always found programming, coding etc. very fascinating. Can't wait for more Videos like these, keep it up Also, how in the flying f- do you only almost have 3000 subscribers? You deserve WAY more
Just a month ago I had 200 subscribers ;) It’s interesting to me that non-programmers watch these videos too. I know they’re not that technical (except maybe the counter strike location guesser video), but I just assumed they wouldn’t be appealing to other people. If I can give you advice, give it a try! Programming is just like building with lego, once you figure out how to put the blocks together you can build great things and it’s a ton of fun :) and if you get stuck anywhere, ChatGPT can help explain things (don’t ask it to solve whole problems though, only ask for advice when you don’t know what to do) Also, thanks so much for your kind words!
One of my friends is a programmer (he's coding new Minecraft Modes and features) and I've often watched him, trying to understand how this stuff is working, how he's doing all that and so on. While I didn't understand what and how he was doing it, it still really fascinated me. Maybe one day I'll also hop into programming and coding. Thank you for your advice with using ChatCPT for help in case I'd get stuck somewhere. And again, you deserve those subs, keep it up :)
that is so interesting to watch not only because of the satisfaction seeing how the CPU experts getting destroyed but also the logical explaination delivered while programming absolutely worth it and very entertaining! please keep it up :)
shoutout to the one 65+ viewer at the end awesome video, I always love seeing your process... even if I don't understand it very well lol when you eventually do plush crush I think the 3 player side would be more interesting but if that's too difficult the 1 player side would be cool too
I'm loving this series! Just found your channel. In Trace Cadets, you could check a pixel in the bottom half, to see when it's bright enough to start drawing shapes. I noticed the AI got started halfway through some shapes when it brightened up, because it was constantly drawing, and that wasted a little time. Great videos!
another cool video! its really cool to see how its not just maximum optimization but youre also limited by what the games can actually register! (also neat to see my own comment in the video xD)

Reinforcement learning can be really cool too! Here on UA-cam though, it’s just very poorly applied a lot of times. I’m probably going to use it for some games as well, but I’ll try my best to make it interesting ;)
Gosh these videos are SUPER cool! After taking a masters university course in AI and Robotics, this type of stuff was the bulk of what we learned and seeing people apply it to do really fun things like this (ultra optimization stuff and pixel manipulation) really goes to show how much potential these tools really have. Just makes me so happy and my degree feel so much more worth it!
So, out of the nine games you've played, your record is five perfected, and four thoroughly beaten. I'm excited to see where this continues to in the future.
This video is amazingly well done. The viewer learns new fun stuff plus its over all fun to watch and it didnt feel like 10 minutes. This channel is definetly worth subscribing too
As someone who worked in computer vision programming automation cameras with these same tools for almost 10 years, its always funny and a bit surreal setting the techniques and tools applied to random stuff haha For the shape one, it might be possible to optimize it further by only attempting to draw if the grid isn't dimmed, so it only tries while the grid is active. Then it wouldn't randomly waste time on partial shape draws
I think an interesting one to watch would be Double Vision, since you’d have to take into account the drawing motion, the color of the line and the partner’s, and which character it is that you’re tracing. Great video as always.
Here's a simple one, uh, I forgot the name but it's that one where you blow into the mic so you can jump on some candles. Just turn on a microphone amplifier and disable noise reduction
Fun video, subbed! Python tip for 8:09 (maybe you already know this, sorry in that case): use numpy arrays to speed this up a lot! This entire function could be replaced with: angles = np.linspace(0, 2*np.pi, steps) xs = center_x + radius*np.cos(angles) ys = center_y + radius*np.sin(angles) return np.column_stack((xs, ys))

just watched all 3 in this series because ds was my childhood mario party and I'll still say it holds up. already destroyed the games i was best at but I'm wondering how horribly complicated it'd be to have a bot calculate angles for moving targets in shuffleboard showdown
Very fun idea! I appreciated the high level logic without the nitty gritty details. Perhaps you could improve the time on the shape drawing by not having the mouse cursor be active until the color brightness on the touch screen passes a certain threshold? Similarly to the leaf colors, since the map darkens while the shape is being placed. Maybe this could avoid the time loss from input being received halfway through drawing a shape. Just an idea!
seeing the joke comment I saw from earlier be a teeny tiny guess was honestly the most surprising thing ive saw and for not just coming back, I just had to subscrib
Trace Cadets is very hard to near impossible to beat the Expert CPUs at. This is just amazing. Also clicked for Cherry Go Round. My worst minigame overall in this game. 9:00 And THAT is a 1000 point throw...and an Obligation. I've never heard that throwing Sound Effect ever.
I feel like you could make Trace Cadets more effective by having program wait for the screen to not be darkened before drawing. The main obstacle would be that it has to watch multiple screens.
Incredible video! But in the shape minigame, the computer constantly draws the figure, even when it can't, losing time finishing a figure that didn't had it start registered and having to give a second go. Maybe you could give a wait timer of some miliseconds so the computer doesn't draw while the game doesn't register draws during the "completed figure" animation! Really cool video nevertheless! Loving them Finally, between all the minigames, the one I think would be interesting to see in action would be Call Of The Goomba or the Bomb microphone minigame (if it's possible to use the microphone and calculate how much microphone use to get the closer to the bomb without exploding it)
I really want this series to keep going until everything is automated. Mario Party DS was one of my favourite games growing up and seeing the expert AI being beaten in a way that 7-year old me could never achieve is really satisfying.
I love this kind of videos, I've also played Mario Party DS these past few days and these three minigames in particular are almost impossible to best the CPUs on when using a mouse lol, I think I've won once on Hedge Honcho and that's it, so it's nice to see them getting destroyed for a change xd Haven't watched the other two videos yet so maybe you already did it but one I'm interested in seeing is the cucumber cutting one
The two minigame I would really want the AI destroying the cpu are Plush Crush and Roller coster. It will be better for the plush minigame that you are the 1V3 so you are not helping the CPU
I'm not sure how possible it would be to automate Camera Shy, but it's my favorite minigame so I figured I'd mention it! I'd also love to see Peek-a-Boo :D
I think for camera shy I have a plan. You’d need to detect the locations of the enemies when they are spotted and then calculate the best path to get to them. And of course, to dodge the ones you have already. Not sure how easy the control is going to be but we‘ll see 😬
the hedge honcho footage brought back memories of how annoying the cpu can really get wow i didn't even consider the boss minigames being up for grabs, that definitely has to be saved for a highlight as for regular ones, soap surfers would be an interesting one to see, very different from the other minigames so far i think
I‘m definitely taking the boss games on some day! As for soap surfers, I guess you could try detecting your current position in relation to the center and try steering towards it. Maybe that’s enough already, but who knows 😬 will give it a try, but I’m working on a different project at the moment :)
I always thought in trace cadets that you had to match the 'colour' of the block, too. So if the screen was showing a triangle in the lighter square, you had to sketch it in the the lighter square, and it wouldn't work if you used the darker square. It's cool to see that's not the case, though.
Thank you very much :) I made a little code snippet where I can enter any text and it will generate a short roulette video for me. Glad someone noticed :D
Rail Riders was the one that popped into my head first, for the same reason as I wanted to see Cherry Go Round (really just wanted to see how far it can actually go lol) But both Dust Buddies and Cube Crushers both look insanely tricky to program well, so if that happens I'd love to see the process (:
Welcome to all the new viewers and subs :)
Let me know which games you want to see next, I'm reading all your comments and making a priority list!
I am a new viewer and a new sub lol Amazing videos so far! Once you’re done with all the Mario Party DS minigames, I would really like to see the destruction of the NSMB minigames

I really want this series to keep going until everything is automated. Mario Party DS was one of my favourite games growing up and seeing the expert AI being beaten in a way that 7-year old me could never achieve is really satisfying.
Sehr cooles Video! Freue mich schon auf das nächste 😁
Danke! Bin schon dran :)
I love this kind of videos, I've also played Mario Party DS these past few days and these three minigames in particular are almost impossible to best the CPUs on when using a mouse lol, I think I've won once on Hedge Honcho and that's it, so it's nice to see them getting destroyed for a change xd
Haven't watched the other two videos yet so maybe you already did it but one I'm interested in seeing is the cucumber cutting one
Awesome video! I love seeing the mini games get absolutely demolished, maybe you could do camera shy next?
Blessed to have this in my algorithm
Blessed to have you as a viewer ♥️
Love these videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks man, will do! Next video is in the making, and the next MPDS video is in planning. Subscribe so you don’t miss them :)
Hey hey! Yes, I did indeed want more of this!
And more is coming :) subscribe so you don’t miss it
Trace cadets gave so much much trouble as a kid and it was only until recently that i was able to finally get a win in that mini game
Against expert? That’s tough 😬
@ProgrammingWithJulius any win AT ALL bro : 😭
I had no idea how to get a shape to register
I love videos like this.
I hope you continue this series
Yep, next video is already in the making!
The two minigame I would really want the AI destroying the cpu are Plush Crush and Roller coster. It will be better for the plush minigame that you are the 1V3 so you are not helping the CPU
*since you guys seem to like it a lot* and now the third video of this series is the most watched. Good job
Not sure how easy the control is going to be but we‘ll see 😬
I think these minigames would be cool to see in future videos
- Sweet Sleuth
- Shuffleboard Showdown
- Book It
the hedge honcho footage brought back memories of how annoying the cpu can really get wow
i didn't even consider the boss minigames being up for grabs, that definitely has to be saved for a highlight
as for regular ones, soap surfers would be an interesting one to see, very different from the other minigames so far i think
I‘m definitely taking the boss games on some day!
As for soap surfers, I guess you could try detecting your current position in relation to the center and try steering towards it. Maybe that’s enough already, but who knows 😬 will give it a try, but I’m working on a different project at the moment :)
Love these videos! Keep them up!
Thank you, I definitely will. Next video already in the making 😊
I love how you said its hard to automate but it is automated by the game itself
finally, after all these years
the AI lost in cherry-go-round, i never thought id see the day
I always thought in trace cadets that you had to match the 'colour' of the block, too. So if the screen was showing a triangle in the lighter square, you had to sketch it in the the lighter square, and it wouldn't work if you used the darker square. It's cool to see that's not the case, though.
Amazing content! Having a lot of fun watching. The endings with statics and the mini-game chooser with Like & Subscribe is also really well made!
Thank you very much :) I made a little code snippet where I can enter any text and it will generate a short roulette video for me. Glad someone noticed :D
Rail Riders was the one that popped into my head first, for the same reason as I wanted to see Cherry Go Round (really just wanted to see how far it can actually go lol)
But both Dust Buddies and Cube Crushers both look insanely tricky to program well, so if that happens I'd love to see the process (:
