Same here! Never watch skating but this pair captured me completely!!! Morgan is so sexy! OMG! OMG! They were together since Morgan was somewhere between 17 and 18 and she was 22 or so. Obviously, they became lovers soon after and performed on the ice in total sync with each other. Never before was there such a pair and there may never be another one like that in the near future!
He is such a STRONG SKATER! He lifts her up & holds her like she’s a feather!!! So graceful both of them! They make an excellent skating couple! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
How do they do those horizontal and vertical spins? Is it all in his strength sending her off? I'm obviously not a skater but would really like to know more about the physics of it.
Even though they no longer skate as a pair, they leave a legacy of poetry on ice. The ease and confidence with each other, their choreography. They are a joy to watch
I know this is going to be taken as a negative comment, but I’m truthful to a fault… as a public we invest so much into the public figures we watch and when we find something this beautiful and sensual and we all wish we could have half of what they “seem” to have had…. It’s heartbreaking-truly when it collapses..I wish life were so much simpler and we could be a relative content society and yet we are so anxious and always looking for the bigger and better thing…. When he had it right in front of him… I’m sorry if people take this wrong, but I truly I am saying it from a life of personal experiences and the job I held with couples…. It saddens me in today’s world… they were soulmates 💔
Oh my goodness! I'm 64 years old and don't do sports - can't stand sports - don't waste my time watching sports. Yet, these two truly talented individuals had me staring at them and I could not look away. I have never in my life seen anything so beautiful, so human, so equal in my life. I know nothing about figure skating but what I do know is I want to see more of this couple dancing, showcasing each others strengths, respecting one another and just making for however long I see them - perfect.
After that Tampa Bay win, I ready to give up sports! That made me ill! Unfortunately James\Cipres has retired from skating. We can only view their artistic abilities through you tube.

Ice dancing isn't really a "sport." It's more like an art related to ballet. It's just too bad that our culture has to reduce everything to competition.

@@kathiehenderson1851 Me too. There are two others that compare: Tarasova & Morozov 2022 Olympics Short Program and of course 2018 Olympics Gold: Savchenko & Massot. However there are no male leads that compare with the the flare and passion of Morgan Cipres.
I hate to be a pedant, but Vanessa and Morgan competed in pairs, not ice dance. Different discipline. They’re doing jumps, twists, and throws so… not ice dance. But I agree they’re one of my favourite pairs to ever skate. This program especially is seared into my memory.
Lindafrohman, I don't know the difference between ice dance and pairs, but I also use Torvil and Dean's Bolero as the benchmark. It was so spectacular (& obviously, memorable!).
This is the video I watch over and over because of their perfect pairing, the symmetry of their movement, the elegance of their dance, and the strength of both. They are magnificent together.
I too keep coming back to this stunning performance...because as you say their symmetry, elegance, strength are magnificent...also when put to that haunting music sung in a way I've never heard before...is quite simply exquisite...

This was beautiful. Vanessa is so elegant and watchable. Morgan is so strong and confident with his lifts. I'm no expert but in my opinion Morgan and Vanessa presented us with a wonderful, energetic performance and the music was awesome. The level of trust needed for the lifts and swings they did is huge. They are definitely a fantastic skating couple/pairing and work so well together. I love the fact they wore plain black costumes with no adornment. That helped create the atmosphere as our eyes weren't dazzled by sequins et al. Beautiful.
Being able to skate gracefully and hold your partner above your head, and then one handed. Then she to hold her positions perfectly. Truly breathtaking.
This reminded me about how much I used to love figure skating, especially couples. This couple is a perfect combination of all of my reasons- the grace and *trust,* (seriously, the trust, even on its own, is breathtaking), the acrobatic feats defying gravity and seemingly inhuman balance. Gorgeous, just gorgeous. Doesn’t hurt that they picked one of the most emotional songs for me; David’s cover of this song is amazing on its own. Watching two athletes pour their blood, sweat and tears into this song is just breath-taking. And I *love* when they’re looking into each other’s eyes. There’s something so meaningful (not necessarily romantic) there, even if it’s “just” a performance. Like I said before, the complete trust in each other is almost otherworldly.
@@DRthistle Thanks for asking David. I had to go back and watch this again. It is certainly a beautiful and inspiring performance and well worth the Gold medal they received for it. But, I guess, when you get to this performance level it's next to impossible to say one is better than the other. For me, the beautiful flow of this performance won me over, but it's possible the beauty of the music chosen and how it relates to the performance makes me prefer it over the other. It really boils down to personal preference and how each individual perceives performance at this level.
@@tommarr3884 Tom, I agree and understand you completely since I feel the same. Mostly I was curious how much you liked this one too since they are both just incredible performances. Cipres did always bring that little bit extra emotion and fine lines but Vanessa (being taller and 20lbs heavier) couldn't be thrown quite that high or same distance and they weren't as consistent technically .
Yes! I think in my silly brain, I had previously thought that when the female was off the ice, it was somehow a reflection on how good the guy was. I watched this and was like, "okay, so the female is basically an expert gymnast as well as skater. got it!"
The audience were applauding, you can see it. The sound was changed for this presentation. Beautiful, but I would still prefer to watch an authentic live presentation, hearing the sounds of the skaters and their audience.
Through out the years I have come back to watch this incredible performance. The musicality of this adagio is breathtaking to such a powerful lyrical song! Their composition of choreography is absolute perfection to crescendo of the music. Absolutely one of the best performances on ice I have ever viewed in my life time! Thank you Vanessa and Morgan! I am a skater and I too found them exceptionally elegant, precise and expressive in every movement. ❤️ She has awesome skill and finesse and he has strength and fluidity of movement. What a wonderful performance!!!

Every time I watched them in competition, he was so gentle with her, like bringing her down from the lifts, watch his arms cradle her to ensure she lands gently. It's amazing to see them skate and I will miss them so much. They are why skating is so beautiful.
Are you perhaps seeing what you need to see/want to see? What do you expect him to do? He's not a neanderthal; if she gets hurt, he's out--and besides, I would help her chase him to the end of the earth if he drops her again like he did once.
True. They look so relaxed - almost like they're just out for a (romantic) stroll. Usually I'm in awe of the different moves when I watch figure skating but in this I barely noticed they were happening (Hey, was that a double axle, what just happened?)

I have enjoyed watching couples' ice skating for more than 40 years. This is without a doubt one of the most beautifully and artistically flowing routines I have ever seen performed. This couple is technical perfection and emotional flight!

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this. It still takes my breath away. For the synergy produced by such intimately responsive performances, for sheer HEART- it doesn’t get any better.
This is mesmerizing. The choreography is so tight with each movement of the music. The death spiral at the climax of the song gave me chills. This pair has a level of emotional expression one rarely sees in figure skating these days.

@@alexsandra9000 I looked into it a bit more! You were right initially, this is a death spiral at 3:55; a quick google search or my link above will show that. What @Carol Nichols is describing is called a "headbanger" and is banned in competitive figure skating (and looks absolutely terrifying). I understand why you'd expect it to be called the death spiral though!
It is as if though her body is his and his body is hers. It is as if though they own each other’s bodies. She totally trust him in his handlings. She knows that he’s not going to drop her. Total confidence. I cringe every time. But, they are always flawless.

I've watched this so many times. Watching this routine several years back was the first time I had heard Disturbed's version of this song. And that's when I fell in love with it. This couple's togetherness, passion, power, and presentation coupled with this song is really something to behold. I'm in awe every time I watch it.
Wow! I love the Sound of Silence, both the original by Simon & Garfunkel, which was released when I was a teenager, and by Disturbed. I felt compelled to watch and couldn't take my eyes off the skaters the entire performance. Absolutely spectacular! Bravo!
WHO ARE these people??!! WHY have I not heard of them before??! They are MAGIC!! The fluidity, the GRACE of Vanessa, they move like ONE entity!! Vanessa is like...there are no words...was there ONE moment when one movement didn't flow flawlessly into the next? Was there a pause, was there anything where they were not in perfect sync?? By the way, I LOVE that Vanessa isn't wearing sequins covered glittery ruffled skirts. Nothing against them, but with that Unitard, you can see every muscle, and her perfectly athletic Cheetah -like body! My GOD!!!!
So much emotion and skill in their skating. It's a revelation to watch them. They are so atuned to one another. You rarely, if ever, feel that sense of emotion when watching other pairs skaters.

I'm older than you, don't practice sports, all my life buried with books, but adore Figure Skating, in my country Perú by videos, here, in Canada, sometimes in person, it's a pleasure to see all the great skaters from around the world. There are good movies also about this sport and ART .

Chills every time. Great choreography, great heart, great athletic STRENGTH (can YOU kneel down on one skate while holding someone above your head???!!! - and at the END of a long routine??!) I am awestruck and this just reaches into the soul for some reason. Choking up here - it's just... human.
Utterly brilliant choreography flawlessly performed! I have never seen its equal as a performance. Two superb athlete-artists. I am grateful to have seen such a masterpiece. Congratulations to both of them on their amazing accomplishment! This clip is a keeper!

totally completly amazing,at 73 yrs old I thought I had seen most things but I started watching this and could not look away ,at times during the intense parts of the routine I found I was holding my breath and wishing them on, the work and practice that went into this must be unbelievable ,these 2 young people are astounding,I hope they have all the success that they richly deserve.

WHY is THIS performance the best I have ever seen? It's as if they or SHE elevated it from dance to sport to a masterpiece. Liquid, fluid, masterful, flawless. Left me Mesmerized, and slightly embarrassed as I was moved to respond in a thunderous standing ovation, here in my living room. Hope the neighbors didn't see that.
The execution and choreography were phenomenal. But the stark minimalism of this video is a brilliant artistic choice that serves to both highlight the performance and concentrate the experience: It's just the skaters, the music, and you. Black and white photography: no flashing crystals or swirling colors. No audience participation (the soundtrack was retroactively dubbed over the performance). A song familiar to virtually all of us, but with an edgy twist. Powerful stuff!
Such a beautiful performance and graceful skills. How wonderful to watch skating without the audience cheering and the annoying constant commenting by the judges. Just the music and the skaters--WOW!!

Yes I totally and utterly agree. Blows my mind and soul every time I watch it . Have you also watched their routine to ‘ Wicked Games ‘ ? From 2019 / 20 . That’s fabulous and the British commentators on Euro Sport said they had never seen anything like it , how fabulous they were , how strong Morgan was and that it was the best routine from any of the skaters .
The gracefulness, their strength, passion, fluidity. Perfection. One of the best forms of art, language of the soul. As if they are one. And I have ice skated! This was not a easy routine but they made it appear effortless. Bravo!
I really like the simplicity of this. Although it's very obvious the moves were complex, but there were no fancy costumes, and it was filmed in black and white which was a perfect match for the music.
Deep down in my heart I know they would have medaled at the Olympics. They both worked so hard for 10 years to only be snuffed out. The beauty, excellence, magic shall always be there. Yes, I just watched these Olympics and there were no pairs with the same depth of artistry and nothing I wanted to see twice. Without Savchenko, Massot, Morgan and Vanessa nothing to really get excited about. The Chinese did do some very strong and smooth transitions and Georgia and one Russian pair worth viewing ..Otherwise meh... And Vanessa not much without Morgan.
@@DRthistle I definitely felt the same way. This was my first time watching the figure skaters at the Olympics and had mixed emotions. I enjoyed the pairs, ice dancers and the singles men and women but none in my mind took me back to a place of enchantment, delight or held me on the edge of my seat in quiet anticipation like Vanessa and Morgan. They brought a romanticism that can not be duplicated. Vanessa and Eric can never bring that magic on the ice, nothing against Eric's skating but their's to me is a performance of two seasoned skaters. Vanessa and Morgan was Heart and Soul and we saw it. I know there are many great skaters with beautiful performances but until this world ended, there will never be a couple of high class skater as Morgan and Vanessa! @@DRthistle Thanks for asking David. I had to go back and watch this again. It is certainly a beautiful and inspiring performance and well worth the Gold medal they received for it. But, I guess, when you get to this performance level it's next to impossible to say one is better than the other. For me, the beautiful flow of this performance won me over, but it's possible the beauty of the music chosen and how it relates to the performance makes me prefer it over the other. It really boils down to personal preference and how each individual perceives performance at this level.
@@tommarr3884 Tom, I agree and understand you completely since I feel the same. Mostly I was curious how much you liked this one too since they are both just incredible performances. Cipres did always bring that little bit extra emotion and fine lines but Vanessa (being taller and 20lbs heavier) couldn't be thrown quite that high or same distance and they weren't as consistent technically .
Are they married? Seems only loving people can manage this routine.

The way skating should be-- no commentary, no audience applause, just the perfect mesh of athleticism and art. She is especially amazing.
I often wonder if the skaters get annoyed with all the off beat clapping from the audience. It must be quite offputting.

Yes! I think in my silly brain, I had previously thought that when the female was off the ice, it was somehow a reflection on how good the guy was. I watched this and was like, "okay, so the female is basically an expert gymnast as well as skater. got it!"
The audience were applauding, you can see it. The sound was changed for this presentation. Beautiful, but I would still prefer to watch an authentic live presentation, hearing the sounds of the skaters and their audience.

Through out the years I have come back to watch this incredible performance. The musicality of this adagio is breathtaking to such a powerful lyrical song! I am a skater and I too found them exceptionally elegant, precise and expressive in every movement. ❤️ She has awesome skill and finesse and he has strength and fluidity of movement. What a wonderful performance!!!

Every time I watched them in competition, he was so gentle with her, like bringing her down from the lifts, watch his arms cradle her to ensure she lands gently. It's amazing to see them skate and I will miss them so much. They are why skating is so beautiful.

This is mesmerizing. The choreography is so tight with each movement of the music. The death spiral at the climax of the song gave me chills. This pair has a level of emotional expression one rarely sees in figure skating these days.

What @Carol Nichols is describing is called a "headbanger" and is banned in competitive figure skating (and looks absolutely terrifying). I understand why you'd expect it to be called the death spiral though!

Anybody who is not a fan of Vanessa and Morgan would be captivated by this routine. It’s so beautiful that you would tap the replay button again and again. These are artists and athletes performing at the highest level. BTW it’s August 13,2022.
I've watched this so many times. Watching this routine several years back was the first time I had heard Disturbed's version of this song. And that's when I fell in love with it. This couple's togetherness, passion, power, and presentation coupled with this song is really something to behold. I'm in awe every time I watch it.

I've always enjoyed watching figure skating but this is really beyond anything I've ever seen. Such fluidity, grace and emotion. I can't even imagine the hours of practice that when into this brilliant performance.

I'm older than you, don't practice sports, all my life buried with books, but adore Figure Skating, in my country Perú by videos, here, in Canada, sometimes in person, it's a pleasure to see all the great skaters from around the world. There are good movies also about this sport and ART .

WHY is THIS performance the best I have ever seen? It's as if they or SHE elevated it from dance to sport to a masterpiece. Liquid, fluid, masterful, flawless. But the stark minimalism of this video is a brilliant artistic choice that serves to both highlight the performance and concentrate the experience: It's just the skaters, the music, and you. Black and white photography: no flashing crystals or swirling colors. No audience participation (the soundtrack was retroactively dubbed over the performance). A song familiar to virtually all of us, but with an edgy twist. Powerful stuff!
Vanessa's technique and posture is not perfect, which is a pity, but I love their energy. It's my second favourite performance ever.
Without the audience sound or announcers - it makes this skate even more powerful - chills!! I love this duo.

Yes I totally and utterly agree. Blows my mind and soul every time I watch it . Have you also watched their routine to ‘ Wicked Games ‘ ? From 2019 / 20 . That’s fabulous and the British commentators on Euro Sport said they had never seen anything like it , how fabulous they were , how strong Morgan was and that it was the best routine from any of the skaters .
The gracefulness, their strength, passion, fluidity. Perfection. One of the best forms of art, language of the soul. As if they are one. And I have ice skated! This was not a easy routine but they made it appear effortless. Bravo!

I really like the simplicity of this. Although it's very obvious the moves were complex, but there were no fancy costumes, and it was filmed in black and white which was a perfect match for the music.

Yes, I just watched these Olympics and there were no pairs with the same depth of artistry and nothing I wanted to see twice. Without Savchenko, Massot, Morgan and Vanessa nothing to really get excited about. The Chinese did do some very strong and smooth transitions and Georgia and one Russian pair worth viewing ..Otherwise meh... And Vanessa not much without Morgan.
@@DRthistle I definitely felt the same way. This was my first time watching the figure skaters at the Olympics and had mixed emotions. I enjoyed the pairs, ice dancers and the singles men and women but none in my mind took me back to a place of enchantment, delight or held me on the edge of my seat in quiet anticipation like Vanessa and Morgan. They brought a romanticism that can not be duplicated. Vanessa and Eric can never bring that magic on the ice, nothing against Eric's skating but their's to me is a performance of two seasoned skaters. Vanessa and Morgan was Heart and Soul and we saw it.
