Official Video: • Vulfpeck - Cory Wong -...
Vulfpeck is an American funk group founded in 2011. The band has released four EPs, six albums, and a silent album on Spotify titled Sleepify, royalties from which funded Vulfpeck's admission-free tour in 2014. The band's most recent album, Vulf Vault 005: Wong's Cafe, was released in January 2022.
The band members attended University of Michigan's music school. They first came together for a recording session[a] at the Duderstadt Center, a university facility that houses an arts library and other resources.[1][2] After reading an interview with German producer Reinhold Mack, band founder Jack Stratton conceived of Vulfpeck as an imagined German version of the U.S. session musicians of the 1960s such as the Funk Brothers, the Wrecking Crew, and Muscle Shoals. The idea was to channel that era of the live rhythm section.[2][3][4]
The band's founding members are Jack Stratton on keyboards, drums and guitar, Theo Katzman on guitar, drums and vocals, Woody Goss on keyboards, and Joe Dart on bass.[3] Touring partners and frequent collaborators include Antwaun Stanley, Joey Dosik and Cory Wong.[5] Other contributing musicians include Charles Jones, Christine Hucal, David T. Walker, Bernard Purdie, James Gadson and Blake Mills.

"Nice bass line!" Welcome to Vulfpeck.
Great reaction once again!
Seeing Joe Dart getting called "that bass player" is kind of wholesome for me. One of the best and tightest bassists currently living. You should really dig him a little, won't regret it.
Yeah and Vulfpeck (you said it right) is just as worth digging.... Like anything. 1612, wait for the moment etc.
Honestly I didn’t realize that was Joe Dart. I’ve heard of him but now I know him. The dude can really lay down the funkiest lines.
Bro, I had the same reaction when he said "that bass player". He was on the cover of bass player magazine and regarded as the best bass player in his generation. He was born in 91 for context lol
I knew you'd love it! Vulfpeck have got their discography chock full of gems and bangers. Next one you should check out is Dean Town (an homage to Teen Town by Weather Report) written by keyboardist Woody Goss with bass player Joe Dart taking the lead. If you do a live version (like the one from MSG), you might just hear something you haven't heard before... Enjoy!
I came here just to point that, I want to see that reaction!
Sounds good. I’ll out that one on The list. This one was awesome, I really enjoyed it.
Finding Vulfpeck is like finding a portal to another dimension. Have fun exploring it but record your journey for us please👌
Their concert at Madison Square Garden is like complete movie all done in one cut, I’ve seen it several times and it never gets old.
Thanks they are soooo good. Joe Dart blew my mind with his lines.
One of my best friends was at this show at MSG! Do yourself a favor and watch the whole show! They rotate many musicians in and out including Horns, Saxes, Singers. They trade instruments. The whole thing is shot in one camera take from onstage and the sound quality is great! Incredible show!
Wow this was a killer song but now you’ve got my interest peaked. That sounds amazing. Thanks!
Looking forward to this!
Hi Jeff! You rock!
@@zatoichiMiyamoto ahhhh, thank you Z!
This was so great to watch, so glad you heard vulf for the first time at their MSG show!
Thanks Michael, it was incredible. Joe Dart is a beast.
Listen to more Vulfpeck, Joe Dart is a living god on bass. You should also check out Cory's solo work, he is probably the hardest working musician in the game riight now and putting out consiistent quality, we're talking multiple full albums per year amount of content, the man is a workhorse, not to mention he has part of Prince's old horn section and bassist.
Thanks for thr info! I’ve heard of Joe Dirt but this one my first sing hearing him play and he did not disappoint. It does seem like Cory is a hard worker and is everywhere right now. I did some Dirty Loops songs on my channel and that was my first exposure to him. He is incredible.
@@bobcieslinski Not Joe DIRT. Joe DART!
@@kennethdean4349 lol
don't forget the spin off band The Fearless Flyers.....I've got a feeling that's right up your alley. It's on the Vulf channel
I’ve got it on the list Adam. I wish I could just do this all day then I could get to everything. Sorry I haven’t gotten to it yet.
Really enjoyed watching this thank you for sharing!
Thanks Zachary!
Oh, I just LOVE super funky, cool, funny and awesome Vulfpeck!!!! They are just Great and always puts me in a great mood!😃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌱🥰🤗 And Joe Dart on that bass🤯🔥😅🥰👍🏼.
Thank you for a great reaction to them and this song🤗.
Thanks for the kind words Lise! Joe Dart is so funky man I loved his lines. I gotta check out more from these guys. Thanks for watchjng!

Same concert, song "Dean Town"
@@roberthenze8600 +1
That whole concert (available for free on UA-cam!) is just non-stop fun and killer grooves. There's not a bad song in the bunch, not a bad musician in the crew. You know you're in for a good time!
Dave Koz is on one of the songs, too. I know you'd dig that.
@@JeffHendricks yes i know. also the specials like feat chris thile
The all Vulf madison square live is a fuck*** masterpeace
YES! One of my favorite bands and favorite bass player at the moment. Definitely recommend their songs Beastly, My First car and Dean Town live. Those songs highlight Joe Dart the most, cheers!
Joe Dart is the GOAT!
Dude you’ve never heard the vulf??? Damn welcome 🙏
Ye. Vulfpek is amazing
They are new to me but they bring me Nostalgia! Is the beat but I love it!
vulfpeck is all about funk lol
If you are looking at Vulfpeck, I'd say you HAVE to check out "Lost My Treble Long Ago" by The Fearless Flyers...
SUGGESTION: Dean Town - Vulfpeck & Chris Thile | Live from Here
Amazing example of playing and improvising together.
Thanks I’ll have to check it out. I loved this one and Joe Dirt is a beast.
i think if someone actually said "they're repeating the same thing, this is simple" to me, i would burst out laughing.
Joe Dart is an absolute monster on bass. he's on some Jaco level stuff. check out Dean Town live.
Vulfpeck, Dirty Loops, and Polyphia are the Prog-Pop Trinity, and Cory Wong has worked with all three, and also has a weekly hour long music show with his band and guest musicians (he's had both Victor Wooten and Bela Fleck on).
i don't know where he finds the time to do all this, but i appreciate his contributions to Music.
It sure is far from simple but it sounds simple to most people. They way they follow the chord structure can be mind blowing.
On top of that, Cory Wong has kids and working on his PHD lol
Do more vulfpeck!!
I plan on it.
@@bobcieslinski I recommend trying some of their softer tunes. I think "Love is a Beautiful Thing" is one of the best love songs written in years. ua-cam.com/video/x0vgMl6n7m0/v-deo.html
That tune is like 3 years old, but this tune, "How Much Do You Love Me" dropped like 2 weeks ago and it is also an amazing song with great melody and lyrics. ua-cam.com/video/0k2dGhF6yVk/v-deo.html
Finally, I have a soft spot for this relatively unknown one, "Grandma" because its about a jewish grandma and I'm jewish lol ua-cam.com/video/S73A9k-UoS8/v-deo.html
"And then they stop and feature the bass player here".
You're some music teacher. Such insight and wisdom.
Thanks Tom!
And I never really believed people lived under rocks until today! WTF does this guy teach bands dude? The Peck has been educating the world for ten years free gratis and now they need his appraisal? I think he missed the irony in your response too?
Great analysis 👏, Hope to see you react to beatbox it has good content and big community waiting for those kind of reaction .
My suggestion
1. Wing - Dancing with a stranger
2. All "solo elimination " GBB 2021
When the song started I thought it was OD by Polyphia for a second
I’m currently listening on the external speakers of a broken iPhone 11 while doing dishes though, so that’s probably a huge part of it
OD by Polyphia is a sick song. I actually did that one on my channel. Thanks for watching this video.
@@bobcieslinskibrother believe me, I’ve watched your OD reaction. Love your channel and the high quality of energy you always bring. I hope all is good with you my friend
@@ChildishDanbinothanks for the kind words. I look forward to hearing from you again. I also love the name. Take care!
This riff reminds me of prince's 1999
be honest ... joe dart can literally stun MSG with 16 notes
and hats off to the organ player ...that was perfect
Fun fact the Guitar players parents actually named him after this song
Thanks!
Check out any of the songs from “Fearless Flyers” which is a different band with both Cory Wong and Joe Dart. Their live set at MSG is tops
Thanks Daniel I’ll check them out.
The headphones weren't free, you had to sell your soul.
No selling my soul. I had a lot of viewers say I needed headphones to hear thr music better so I asked thr company who I’ve purchased countless headphones from if they would send me a free set of headphones. They never questioned it and said yep we will send them right out. No strings attached. I thought that was so nice.
Love these guys. You might want to check out Ghostnote. There is a drumeo video that is worth it.
liked it
so... edit ... might have forgotten to mention how much i enjoyed your reaction ..really gave me a connection ... do it again
!!!
16th notes ... heaven ... AND hell
grab two fingers use them on any giving surface ... not on a solid thing ... on strings ...of different tension ... and he is in the p;ocket
i got to tell you this and dean town kill me ... ive been playing 49 years now and i can ruin mark king and sometimes keep up with victor wooten but this solid 16s all day ... he should look like the hulk !!!!
Could you react to Marcin Patrzałek - Master of Puppets / Aerials or Toccata & Fugue?
Thanks!
I’ve got that one on my list. Kashmir was live and then got blocked. It was fantastic though.
you should check out cory wongs solo stuff with the wongnotes. lilypad is good
Sounds great Alex. Thanks!
Simple analogy with games: a company may try to stretch the edges of possibilities and develop the most awesome game ever seen...
or use everything we mastered to build a really fun game in pixel art.
extended concept double analogy: when you are building a house and are very confortable with steps and tools to do so, then you naturally transit focus to precision and flow
applying it to Vulfpeck: the greatness of this goup is its flow, crafting really groovy music. What differs from conceptual examples (or maybe not different at all) is the fact that finding musicians to naturally click on groove is something very, very hard to accomplish. We can't think of something different in the creation process other than imagine it being printed in the first run, which is definitely hard to imagine it happening when developing a game trying to stretch the edges of possibilities, where we tend to imagine a lot of experimentation.
Edit - plottwist: or maybe mastered tools and steps opens ground to experimentation? hmm
What great analogies and comments. Thanks!
whiplash good ending
Got one for you!!!!!
You have to check out !!!
MAD WORLD | Bass Singers Cover ft. Elliott Robinson
IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do a reaction to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Mike, I'll add that to my list. It sounds interesting.
Most irritating band ever, hipster muck.
From what I’ve heard they are spectacular.
@@bobcieslinski Yes, Iv'e heard the same Bob, Fabulous musicians, like a group of young musos just out of college jamming, but no memorable songs, not for me, I come from the house of Sly Stone for that stuff
@@tonybrereton7863 Sly Stone that’s some great stuff.
