First introduced in 2013 as the Bourbon County Backyard Rye, this year's barrel-aged stout was first aged in bourbon barrels for at least one year and then finished and blended with mulberries, boysenberries, and marionberries. This years 2023 Goose Island Backyard Stout is one of the best I have ever had. Very juicy...not dry...definitely taste the "Bourbon Barrell" in every sip. Buy it or be sad!

Just picked mine up. I live in Georgia so we never get these Goose Islands but this one is below the 13% limit so I’m excited to try my first one!

This one will be pretty available, so worth grabbing a few. Not sure if you had the Bramble a few years back but it's in that category. Really good!
I thought this was the worst beer of the lineup when I was at Prop Day last weekend. Agree on the dark fruit flavors and the bramble comparison, but on tap, it had a very strange aftertaste. Hoping my bottle tastes better.
Saw your comment on the base first, and now seeing this, maybe being on tap explains it. We definitely didn't get an aftertaste on this one. You'll have to tell us your thoughts after you open a bottle. We'll in turn, sip on ours again tonight live and see if we missed anything! Cheers friend!
~~~ I thought last years base stout was more towards the berries than the barrel. Had one recently and the berries had receded and the barrel had come forward. It was great. Look forward to trying this. Nice review. CHEERS !!! ))))))))))))))) Was this bottle $25
Agreed, I think the dark fruits really came out on last years base, where this year I was pleasantly surprised with the chocolate and barrel notes that immediately came forth. The Backyard was 20 in our neck of the woods as was the base and banana, however, the Eagle Rare and Angels Envy were a bit steep compared to what I'm hearing from other states. Cheers!

Man, this year sounds great so far.
Not gonna lie, we were quite impressed with this year's lot. We did have one miss for us, but 5 out of 6 isn't bad at all, and even our bottom-ranking stout wasn't terrible (looking at you London Fog, LOL)! Cheers ~A
