Bananas foster is the schiz baby! Loved it
Glad you liked it! After our initial review, we admitted it improved once it opened up. And if we're being honest, we thought 23 was such a strong year that if this had come out any other year, it wouldn't have ended up last for us. That's the fun part about doing this...everyone's palates are so different. Cheers friend!
Picked up 5 of the base today. Review coming soon. No variants again in Arkansas, but I got that covered thanks to you guys! Rock on!
Rock On Jimmy! Sending out your 5 bottles on Monday!
Awesome reviews! Can’t want to start my round 1 tonight!
Nice! And thanks so much; we appreciate you watching. You'll have to let us know your thoughts after you start sipping through them...we thought 23 was a great year for BCS. Cheers, friend! ~A
Thanks for the info as always! It’s turned in to a yearly tradition, watching your guys’ BCS videos the night before I venture out. Wasn’t able to find any Angels Envy or Eagle Rare by me, and obvs not the Prop, but snagged the other ones. Very excited. Plus I have an Old Fitzgerald I’ve been holding on to from last year that’ll probably be on the menu for New Years. Thanks again!
Wow, that means a lot to us! Thanks so much for the kind words. We look forward to doing these reviews every year and have no plans of stopping soon 😁. We'd love your thoughts after you crack them open as we really thought this was a great year for BCS. Cheers friend and happy holiday! ~A
Found one of the Old Fitz bottles this year as well. Would love to here your opinion after you have it.
I think everyone loves the bananas foster but y’all. Everyone else has great things to say about it
To us it opened up a bit more after we shot our video but again there was too much cinnamon ans not nearly enough banana. It wasn't bad, just for us was the last ranked of this year. Everyone is different and that good. What did you think of the Bananas Foster? What about the other variants? Which were your favorites! Cheers and thanks for watching!
Just got my 3 three bottles. Excited to try them. I got some 2021 expressions.
Hope you enjoy this year's lot as much as we did! Nice job on the 21's! What variants did you score? Cheers!
These are great and honest reviews.....having a 2023 Backyard Stout as I type...this is unbelievable.
Really appreciate that! Thanks so much for the comments and have a wonderful holiday!
I'm so glad I live in Chicago. I just picked up all 6 of them and I'm looking forward to indulging. Thanks for the review!
You'll have to check back in with us after you've sipped on them. We thought this year was fantastic! Cheers from Charm City!
Yo guys big fan of the reviews thru the years. Had a general question, in your opinions how long should you sit on variants of every years lot?
Thanks so much! We really appreciate that. As for aging, it really depends on the variant. Some flavors can last years, others dissipate quickly. Things like toasted coconut, bananas, etc, will not hold long. Other variants, like coffee and dark fruits can last years and years. It's a bit of trial and error with some, but we've sipped on 11-year-old base models that were fantastic! Hope that helps! Cheers!
I can't find the top 3 anywhere. I've checked in NJ and Florida, where did they distribute them?
Goose Island is InBev distribution so these should have hit both NJ and Florida. Now the 2 Year Reseves are a somewhat dependent on the retailer but keep hunting, you should be able to find one or both of them. Cheers!
Great recap and ranking video guys! I should be able to get a few of them and looking forward to them. Just finished up the fig newton one from last year, good stuff. Cheers guys!
Appreciate it, and good to know the Fig aged well. We thought it might! Enjoy this year's lot...it's a good one! Cheers!
I’m glad I’m still sitting on some of the biscotti’s from last year. Definitely sounds like a great lineup this year. Cheers
Definitely one of the best so far... even the bananas foster, which came in last for us, was still a nice pour. Just shows how amazing we felt everything else was! As for the biscotti for last year... one of my all-time favorites... but I'm Italian, so I'm biased LOL! Cheers, Robert! ~A
Am I the only one that can't afford to purchase these? Is $25 a bottle beer affordable? Or are the liquor stores in my area of the country price gouging?
We're finding some states to be much higher than others. I was surprised at how much more it was in Maryland this year as opposed to other states. The Eagle Rare and Angels Envy were over 50 compared to others who found them for 35 bucks. To me, it's as close as beer has come to the whiskey world of overinflating due to demand. A shame too because this was a great year! Cheers~
Grabbed 6 of the Base. Only other options were banana foster or backyard. $10.99 for base so grabbed them. Look forward to comparing to 2021,2022,2023 sometime soon. Thanks for videos guys Cheers Rock On
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on that 4-year vert! And 11 bucks is a great deal on the BCS...I need to start shopping where you shop, LOL! Cheers, David! ~A
It is so interesting to me how much the Bananas this year is different from the 2017 Bananas Prop. That Prop was unbelievably good. This years beer isn't as good as that Prop. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but the Prop bananas foster was much better. Similar thing happened when they released BCBS 14 in 2021. The Prop 14 was also much better.
Chicago is so spoiled when it comes to barrel aged stouts. Revolution's Deep Woods series rivals or is better than Bourbon County. Then you have More, Phase Three, Mikerphone, Hubbards Cave, Half Acre, Maplewood, etc. It is Stout City in my opinion.
Chicago definitely has a great craft beer scene and we love visiting many of the breweries your mentioned when we visit Chicago for work. Cheers and thanks for watching!
I got the 4 I could, no angels envy. I am excited for all of them. I just wonder why one is SO RARE!
Not sure, we've talked to a few distributors who have mentioned that the Angels Envy and and Eagle Rare were very limited this year. A shame too, because this is a stellar year for BCS. Cheers, Dennis! ~A
Picked up my bundle this morning…Eagle Rare varietal, Angels Envy Varietal, Bananas Foster Varietal, Backyard Stout Varietal, and 2 bottles of the BCS Original. Could not get the Proprietor, because they are only released today in Cook County. My brother lives in Cook County, so he is picking me up one. From prior years, I still have a BCS aged in Old Fitzgerald barrels, a BCS aged 2 years in Weller 12 Year barrels, and a BCS aged in 11 Year Old Birthday Bourbon barrels. 🥃
Heck of a hall, Dave, and it sounds like you've got quite the BCS collection. You'll have to report back on your thoughts. We obviously thought this year was great, but we love hearing what everyone else thinks as well...it's what makes reviewing these so much fun. Cheers, Dave, and thanks again for supporting us! Happy Holidays! ~A
That Banana foster bangs 🤤
Glad you enjoyed it! We both admitted it got better as it sat in the glass after our initial review and that it wouldn't have come in last had this been released in years past. That said, it's what we love about doing this...everyone's palates are different, and we love hearing the different reviews. Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you had a great holiday! Cheers ~A
AGREE!!
As a Chicago resident- I’m glad prop won this year- I did get all the BCS bottles this year, so far only had base and it absolutely was perfect- Next up will be prop! Great video!!
You'll have to report back to us, Mike! We keep thinking the Prop won't work annually, and it keeps exceeding our expectations by leaps and bounds. As for the base, so well done this year. All in all, a stellar year for BCS. Cheers, Mike! ~A
I purchased the Banana Foster variant, kind of against my will at my wife's insistence. I picked it up along with Backyard, Eagle and Base. I agree that the cinnamon/ spice notes were far more forward than that of the Banana, which for me was a pleasant and welcomed suprise. I was most excited about Eagle, which ironically was my wife's favorite as she was disappointed that the Banana notes weren't more dramatic. It stood apart as an interesting departure from the other offerings and is definitely the one ill remember the most in years to come. Banana Foster for the win this year for me!
It's so funny how everyone's palates are so different, and we had a feeling the BF would be the most divisive. We both agreed off-camera that it got much better as it opened up. Honestly, if this were any other year, it probably would have been ranked higher. And your wife has good taste...that ER is fantastic. We've had plenty of two-year-aged BCS releases, and none have had the barrel influence the Eagle Rare did this year. Cheers and Happy Holidays! ~A
@@2TEN90 she has 5 years in the beer world compared to my 20 and her palate is incredible! She's twisting my arm for a trip to Bamberg to visit schlenkerla! Thanks for the video, and for responding to my comment. Keep up the good work!
@@mrgoodkat9500That's awesome! I couldn't even get a smile out of my better half when I gave her the Founders French Toast Bastard last year... thought no one was immune to that, LOL! Cheers to you both!
If I could I’d buy the backyard, the base, angels envy and the prop. Didn’t think you’d say the prop would be best. Sounds amazing. Yeah I wouldn’t know how the toasted rice would work in it. Cool. Cheers guys.
Was completely surprised by how good that prop was... such a shame it's only a Chicago release. That said, they have taken props from the past and made updated variants with them in the following years. Let's hope the toasted rice gets that treatment soon! Cheers!
It’s interesting how some of these really change as they warm. Love this years. Hoping next year goes back up to the 7-8 mark rather than the 6 (5if you live outside chi town).
Agree with you on both counts. I would love to see more variants, but I know this year they emphasized dessert-like stouts, which may be why we didn't get some variants like coffee or rye-aged. That's the fun of this annual release. Already looking forward to 24 after a stellar 23. Cheers to you! ~A
Is there a way to preserve these after opening?
We have a bottle capper that's relatively inexpensive and used for homebrewing. While it won't keep them forever, the ABV is high enough to keep them fresh and carbonated for a few days before the oxidation eventually sets in. It's very similar to a wine in that respect. Cheers, and hope you enjoy your pours!
Grabbed 6 of the base, 3 local shops I went to said the variants haven’t come in yet but they said they’re coming. Last year was the same. Variants hit about a week after Black Friday. Cheers! 🍺
The base is fabulous...one of the best in years, in our opinion and we'd love to hear your thoughts on that and the variants as they start to filter in. Cheers friend and hope you had a great holiday! ~A
Had them on draft except AE and ER which are bottle only. The bananas foster was all banana on draft and very little cinnamon. Had there been more cinnamon I’d have loved it. Prop my favorite
Thanks for the comments, Josh and I would love to have tried it on tap. I got banana on the bottle pour, while Todd got very little, but both of us felt the cassia bark was the dominant note. As for the prop, who knew a rice pudding-inspired beer would be so darn good! Cheers, Josh!
What are those bottle caps you use, and how long after you initially open them do they stay good for?
They are for capping beer in our homebrews but do a nice job of extending the life of the BCS, especially since they are higher ABV stouts. You can find the caps and capper at any home brew store. It's very much like a wine... it won't last forever, but you can extend it a few days before oxidation eventually kicks in. Cheers!
BEER CHEERS 🍻
Happy Thanksgiving, Jay!
I wish you guys would do more beer reviews. Love and look forward to your Bourbon County reviews every year. But come on the proprietors over the Eagle Rare, Angels Envy, and the Base this year?? That said I have them all except for the Prop… lol just got them today and drank the regular today. It was awesome just can’t see the Prop being better than those three 🤔
Thanks so much, Michael, and yes, we are gonna try to do more beer reviews. It's hard to balance with the whiskey, rock, and beer combo, but we're getting more and more requests for the beer stuff. As for the prop, we were honest and unified in our opinions. Yes, the ER and Angels Envy were great, but like years past, we snubbed our nose at the Prop and thought there was no way it would work, and low and behold, it won it for us this year. That said, the whole lot was great this year. If you get the prop, let us know your thoughts, we'd love to hear! Cheers, Michael, and Happy Holidays to you! ~A
Guy not having the prop, but saying how can the prop be better than the others? Strange
@@MikeRMandu In his defense, we never would have thought it would have topped the ER or AE as well, LOL!
Sorry guys, but I strongly disagree. I had Bananas Foster, Backyard and base today and Bananas absolutely kills the others.
No worries at all, that's the fun part of doing these is everyone's palates are so different. After we went off camera on our initial reaction to the bananas foster, we actually said that it did get better as it opened up. To be fair, we enjoyed the 23 lot so. much that the BF wouldn't have come in last place years prior. Thanks for watching, and have a great holiday! Cheers!
I could barely taste any banana.
