One thing I really like about Giant Robo's design is the Egyptian headress-style head. Really makes it unique
I just watched Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still here recently, a whole lot of fun!
7:27 Don't forget that Makoto Kobayashi (Creator of Dragon's Heaven and has worked on a ton of stuff such like Zeta Gundam and Armored Core 4A) did Giant Robo's Design and a bunch more mechanical stuff in the OVA. Really I want to mention this because I think Makoto knocked it out of the park with Robo's design. The big ass proportions really make Robo's animation just feel 10x more heavy and awe-inspiring.

Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still is probably my all-time favorite OVA anime series. The score, the character development, the gripping story, even the designs that combine retro and modern aesthetics! Truly one of the greats!
You know what, we need a proper adaptation of the giant robo manga, with some of the original monsters from the tokusatsu.
I just watched this ovas and ...my god all the references to Sangokushi series. It's a great tribute to Mitsuteru Yokoyama's works.
Also one correction, God MARS is one of the attempts to adapt the manga MARS, but the anime it's very different from the manga. A more loyal adaptation of MARS will be the anime Shinseikiden Maazu or MARS The exterminator, which counts with some appearances of the members of BF and even some mechas that appeared in GR ovas.
Giant Robo has to be my favorite Mecha series. I never new Yasuhiro Imagawa and Chikai Konaka worked on the anime adaptions because they have created not just my favorite Mecha anime, but favorite anime in general! I have watched and own the toku series on dvd and am starting to watch the anime. Here’s to Giant Robo, the original super robot! (Unless you count Tetsujin of course 😉)

I bought the DVD set of The Day The Earth Stood Still years ago and loved every second of it. I wish I had a physical copy of the complete soundtrack.
