      I did front and rear legends on my 14 SGS @ 50k. Used 13 inch rear shock over the original 12 inches.
      Got 70k now, really improved all aspects of ride. Seems I get better tire wear as well.
      I would buy legends again.

      Great video and a ton of info. So on both bikes I went FOX. On my 2017 SGS I did HD spring kit, and then a set of 13" IFP-QSR FOX with dampening adjustment. On my 21 RKS I've only done the rear 13" FOX ifp-qsr. Both bikes ride night and day difference, especially the heavier SG with the springs as the bike holds a track alot better and at more speed. I can ride solo or 2 up with alot more confidence and comfort. I like FOX for the reputation and price point, as I can't see shelling out 1k for rears let alone adding the front. Think I have maybe 1100 across 2 bikes and that includes front install at a shop. Also you can still turn the adjuster by hand.

    Like you, I did a lot of research… legends, progressive, oghlin’s and las Wilber’s. Luckily for me, I have friends with all these except for the Wilber’s… they were all good.. liked them all. I kept reading about Wilber’s… what I like about it, is that you set it and forget it… you add a passenger or luggage, it adjust itself. So I bought them… went to Sturgis with my lady and about 40 lbs of luggage… let me tell you… loved them… didn’t have to worry about adjusting as it did it on its own… never bottomed out. The curves at needles highway felt so good… so look into Wilber’s… I bought them at Laidlaw’s Harley Davidson ( yes, from Matt Laidlaw, very cool dude) for 1,800 for front and rear. Check them out.

    Have progressive suspension on my wide glide and its good for what I use the bike for just a bar hopper. Went with fox on my ultra limited and they are amazing, went with fox because I'm from the north and have experience with them from snowmobiling going back to the 90s and for many years no other shock came close to the performance you got with fox.

    What a great content, very helpful for me and anyone who is shopping for bagger suspensions for the first time. I love the approach of setting the budget first and then technical analysis. I always remind myself, any part for my Harley is just what I want, not what I need, so budget must come first. Thanks for this video!

    H~D stock touring suspension 2014-2022 was a main spring coil over, and a slave spring. You really only adjust 1 side. (left side). The right side tries to keep up with a much softer spring. My right side spring failed. It caused wobble and I was 2 up at the time it happened. We heard the spring fail. It was loud. I replaced the stock rear suspension with Legends Revo-A’s. What a world of difference. Loved it so much, I did front and rear right away on my next bike.

I have legends front and rear on my 14 FreeWheeler now and like them as well but of course a different type of ride. Had a slight problem with the damping knob on one of the rears but was sent a replacement with free freight return with no hassle.

    Good video! I'm also running the Progressive FST Kit on my front end; got it for $500 plus tx (almost half the cost of Legends). Out back, I'm running RWD fully adjustable 13" Shocks (stock OE were 12" and not much adjustability)that have the reservoir attached to the shock body and are fully adjustable (got these for $900; the others [Legends, Ohlins, HD-SE/Ohlins, etc.] were all around $1500 or more. My setup works excellent for my style of riding (mostly 2-up, some hills/mountains, lot of along the beach So. Cal.).

    My Progressive 944 were WAY to stiff, even on the softest setting. I have a 2014 Ultra and after a few hours of riding the bike was making my ass feel like I was the new guy on the cell block. I went with Legend rear shocks. I've heard the expression "Night & Day" difference, but it was justified here. I can not emphasize it in this message the ride difference.

    I just installed 13" PS 490 shocks and their cartridge front end kit on my 2012 SG for under $1000. The install was very easy and the forks were due a rebuild anyway. I have about 50k miles and should have made this upgrade a long time ago. It feels like a completely different bike, with a much safer, confident feel. No bottoming with a nice firm sporty feel. I love Ohlins and have them on my 1198s ducati but the Progressive Suspension are a high quality option that's reasonably priced. To be honest my SG doesn't need a very pricey suspension when the PS front and rear do a great job. I like the PS 490 shocks with aluminum body, easy compression/rebound adjustment better than the PS 944 or similar touring type PS shock. If anyone has ridden their bikes with the oem air ride rear and antiquated front damper rod system the $1000 front and rear upgrade will significantly change the vague feeling and bottoming out oem suspension.

The extra travel on the Progressive 944 is very appealing, and I'm going to look into them some more before dropping any coin on upgrade suspension hardware. My plan is to upgrade the rear suspension first, then do the front sometime down the road.

    I believe the Ohlins and Legends both have life time warranty's, and the 12' rear shocks also have the 3" of travel.. that price you quote for the Progressive 944 is about the same as for the mid grade Ohlins and Legends.. now for the fork suspension system, yea the Progressive FST asymmetrical cartridge system looks like a good buy, however I didn't like the single, super-duty single spring design, so I passed on it. Yep budget minded too, but just about the first thing I did on the Street Glide, and the first thing on the Road King I did, change out that junk suspension and kept the same shock lengths. For the 21 street glide: 12" base model Ohlins, and for the front, Progressive springs with Ricor Cartridge Intiminators, for the 2020 Road King: 13" Bitubo Twin adjustables (rebuildable with 2 year warranty) in the rear, and Progressive springs with Ricor Cartridge Intiminators.. total cost would have been I think lower than your options that you are leaning towards.. In both cases, my front suspension upgrades seem still to be out performing the rear suspension up grades on both bikes (and that's about right since you tend to fell more suspension short comings in the rear) Note: Besure to select the appropriate spring rates for your rear shocks!

    • @RidingintheOzarks
      @RidingintheOzarks  2 роки тому

      The Ohlin do not publish a warranty on their website and if you research it seems you have to take it up with the dealer if you have issues. They do not publish travel specs for the either of the 12" shocks that I can find, if you can find it in print send it to me. The price is not the same IMO the most Affordable setup was $1460 for Ohlin which is not far off but Ohlin Mid grade option HD159 (Rear) was another $300. Legends were $1700-1900. I am looking at $1300 with this setup.

The Ohlins HD-039 rear shock are about $675 retail. depending on which of these two rear shocks one choses, a full suspension up grade would cost either less than $900 or just over $1000.. Hey, we're not far apart, I'm in Ardmore, OK . Would love to connect and someday get together as I love coming to Arkansas. I put Legend shocks on my 2019 Sportster 1200 quite awhile back and love them. I also have a 2019 Streetglide (explain later why have two 2019s) but after dropping it in deep sand in Colorado and breaking my ankle with it, I decided it was too heavy and had a trike kit put on it. It does have air shocks and I've wondered if I may have problems out on the road with that and what other options there were since now it would be very hard to get to the shocks to adjust them.

    Hey Brother, appreciate the information. Are you still satisfied with the progressive suspension? I have 17 CVO Ultra, and the suspension is just so, so, to me anyway. I ride 2 up a lot, also single a lot. I think I am going to Wilbers because it is a self adjusting system and I'm like you, I probably won't adjust the shocks for the 2 up or single rider, heck, I don't do it now so I don't see anything changing. What I have learned about Wilbers has got my attention and I can't find anything where people are trash talking them. They are a little more expensive than what I want to pay, but I'm only doing this once!! After writting this, I see jerrydelatorre5977 already wrote about the Wilbers and he loves them too apparently. Still saving up for them, so hopefully I can get them installed before this coming winter. That's A LOT OF MONEY for some dang shocks!!! Appreciate what ya do for the community Brother, ride safe!!!

    I am 6ft 5" tall and built like a bricked shit house, and my OEM HD air ride shocks are terrible! I have one option, max pressure for the worst ride ever, or, lower pressure and bottoming out over the smallest bumps with the same results. I am replacing these terrible shocks with those that are not air ride.
