it’s the fact that mary would never know her own family started the fire and killed her, i bet she was so scared and thought it was her fault. how cruel
Not really because, I’m sure as she tried to get out, seeing all the random obstacles in her path must have raised suspicions that I don’t necessarily she thought of too long about because of the panic she must have been in. Probably thought it was a bad dream. But FOR SURE she must have known she didn’t place those things there.
Worse, she was probably not even thinking about her life but about her grandkids she probably wanted to go help him and make sure he was fine not knowing that he was safe since the beginning
@Pumpkin after everything she did for him and to end her life in such a malicious way is just awful - hearing him prepare for the whole thing, unplugging her phone and making obstacles?? absolutely horrible
Hi Eleanor, I am a therapist and here (in Belgium) it’s not legal for a therapist to report past crimes if a patient makes a confession, I can only break confidentiality to prevent future harm (which was definitely the case here given the google searches, but I thought you’d find it interesting!)
Does that mean that if a serial killer confessed to their therapist but assured that they would never do it again, the therapist couldn't go to the police. Also, in this scenario, if the therapist did go to the police, could that testimony be taken as evidence against the killer and would the therapist go to prison for it?
Here in the US most therapists and psychiatrists and even school counselors call the cops or an ambulance or social services within seconds if you report anything about harming yourself or others, even if it’s only just a passing thought. I knew someone who literally got charged with domestic terrorism because he had said to his therapist that he wanted to shoot himself. America does not play around with that stuff, it doesn’t even matter if it was a past crime or past attempt, they’re legally supposed to report that kind of stuff. It’s called mandated reporter. So things like therapists, teachers, nurses, doctors, even store managers are mandated reporters, so they legally need to report any danger or possibility of danger whether its past, present, or future.
@@RatpoisonbeanReally? My therapist has told me that she will only tell anyone something that I’ve said to her if she thinks that I am going to hurt myself or someone else.
@@geekgirl_luv4262 The only thing is if it was a past suicide attempt, that’s different your therapist won’t call anyone unless they believe you’re going to try again. But if you’ve admitted to killing somebody or assaulting someone- then yes your therapist has to take the legal course of action by making a report
when she told this story and then when you actually realize that he would’ve gotten away with murdering his poor grandmother, it’s actually scary to realize how many people are probably walking around the streets joking, laughing, eating at restaurants and starting families while they’ve committed a murder and never got caught and maybe never will get caught
And also the fact that this wasn't even classed as a homicide so there was never a murder investigation that MIGHT have eventually gotten him. All the unsolved murders out there are scary enough, but the fact that there's even more people that aren't even being looked for because no one knows there was even a murder in the first place....so sad :(
@@cassandra_cassowary honestly, there should have been an investigation so its baffling that it was classed as an accident despite the obvious foul play present. the table pushed up against the door from the inside like??? the firefighters really looked at that and said "yea that's fine that's normal?" there's no way he shoud've been able to get away with that for so long
I was the “troubled” older teenager that was taken in by my grandma and this case really got to me. My grandma is generous and kind just like the lady in this story. My grandma means the world to me and she helped me through so much. She gave me a place to stay when I was young and pregnant and didn’t shame me or make me feel like I did something wrong. Im older now but I still rent the house next to her so that I can see her every day and check on her. I can’t imagine ever taking advantage of her kindness and doing something mean to her, especially something this horrible.

I remember my CAMHs experience, it was awful. I told my therapist about my SA as a child, she said 'boys will be boys, and it wasn't that bad' I hated her, but was forced to go by my mum for years.
My CAMHS therapist who prescribed me my medication overdosed me so bad I collapsed at school and had to be rushed to hospital, after this I had to prove I wasn't trying to kill myself and the doctor was basically let go because he wasn't fit enough anymore to be a doctor

as someone with anxiety, depression, and autism i feel that it is important to note that these conditions don’t cause you to murder people. not once have i considered murdering someone especially not my grandmother. these conditions are in no way responsible or valid excuses for violent behavior especially not murder. there is a stigma around mental health disorders and autism so i want to make it abundantly clear that just because someone has these conditions DOES NOT make them violent people. really not even that different from neuro typical people. while it is possible that providing adequate mental health support could have prevented this from happening his mental health is not the only factor in what caused him to commit such a horrific crime. may the grandmother rest in peace.
Yess thank you, i'm autistic and i suffer with social anxiety and it started at the same age as him actually, I have never thought about committing such crimes. there is so much stereotypical stigma around said issues that it causes so much fear and embarrassment for people with these mental disorders.
@@mollied8528 exactly. i didn’t see anyone else comment this and because there’s so much misinformation and stigma about autism and other mental disorders i felt the need to make it clear. i also have severe social anxiety and so when in videos like these where tons of people are watching it and it’s not made clear that these disorders are not what’s causing the crimes it gets a lot worse because people will start to associate the two things with each other despite them being totally unrelated. idk if my grammar makes any sense lol. there needs to be a lot more education about autism so that the stereotypes and misinformation goes away. anyways i hope you’re doing well :)
@@broskify did you literally not get the point of what i was trying to say??? yeah he had these things but they aren’t going to cause someone to be a fucking murderer. there is so much stigma and misinformation about these conditions so i highly recommend instead of sticking to your ignorant ideas you listen to the people who actually have these conditions and educate yourself
THANK YOU. mental health issues are a thousand times more of a danger to the person that has them. these cases DO happen, but they are a rarity, and not enough people understand that. mentally ill people =/= people capable of murder.
It drives me insane knowing that if he didn’t admit it the second time he would’ve gotten away with it. Just imagine how many times this has happened and no one did anything. Rest In Peace Mary
Do we know for certain though that the therapist wouldn't have done anything? It sounds like they actually did the best thing they could have done in that situation. Build up trust, get him to admit to the whole thing - in front of another witness - and you seem to have a solid case. Do you think he'd ever have been convicted if they'd just called the police based on one, random, unelaborated upon comment?
I was looking for this comment! Like what did they think when they saw a table pushed in front of the door to the room she was found dead in?! Like how was that not suspicious! The UK police/justice system is a joke!
@Eynis Rose Varda well because the son had depression and anxiety, most people aren’t gonna assume someone depressed is going to try to murder their grandmother in cold blood. it’s not like he had a mental illness that’s stereotypically connected with violence. even though depression and anxiety doesn’t mean no violence, in the eyes of the law, they aren’t red flags
I’m so glad you mentioned how horrific camhs is. I obviously think what happened was abhorrent, but I also really respect that you were so honest about how awful that service is.
Can confirm they're shite. I have BPD and C-PTSD and they completely ignored that and tried to diagnose me with autism instead just because I was a "problem child". I don't even have autism wtf.
@@VampiraVonGhoulscout I can confirm also. I'm starting to think I don't have autism and I genuinely think I have BPD. It does run in my family and I'm trying to get diagnosed. I did get diagnosed with anxiety and depression though but I do keep thinking they said I have autism just to shoo me off.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you're doing okay💚. I am in a similar situation and am infuriated by this case, he absolutely did not deserve such an amazing grandmother.
Sadly we are going to see a lot more cases like this one because children are going undiagnosed and not receiving help when they are calling out for it. If autism isn't diagnosed and the child doesn't receive the correct help throughout their life it can manifest into other mental health problems such as paranoid schizophrenia. The uk is currently in a mental health crisis which not man seem to be that worried about.x
As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I really appreciate how you explained how dibilitating it can be. Some days it can be difficult to even leave the house..it really is a drag.
I fully believe he could have been caught earlier. I mean BOTH smoke detectors were dismantled and the table was in front of the door 💀💀💀 If they had factored that in they would have been able to see that something ain’t adding up
I’m a mental health counselor in the US. if a client told me that they had killed someone in the past, I legally and ethically cannot tell anyone. it’s covered in confidentiality. the only times I can break confidentiality are when someone’s life is currently in danger, such as suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, elder abuse, and child abuse. if my client said this I would definitely assess them to make sure they are not currently homicidal. if I told someone that my client had killed someone in the past, I can lose my license and pay hefty fines.
I wondered about this, I knew there was a really high level of confidentiality that therapists had to provide but thought they'd have to tell about something like this. Thank you for your input.
I went to college with him, almost went on a date with him. He was kind of awkward but my whole friend group had some level of mental illness so he'd sit with us. Weirdly we were studying forensic science and he always seemed quite interested. It's kind of scary how normal murderers can be

I don't think it's fair for everyone to be like 'She's so beautiful' just because she lost weight. She was always beautiful but now fatphobics (yes that's what y'all are) can finally see it. Go comment that on her vids for 2 yrs ago instead.
@@janhurst544 people might say she looks good a well as that. But don't take it like that's the reason cause on all her videos there's comments saying she's gorgeous before and after. She was always stunning. :)
His therapist probably followed the doctor and patient confidentiality agreement. There are a lot of therapists out there that know these types of things and don't report it. It's truly sad.
I work in behavioral health (in the USA so maybe it’s different in that country), but the confidentiality agreement doesn’t apply to disclosures like that. They usually actually have you sign a treatment form which states it somewhere on there. Edit: After looking into it a little more it seems to vary quit a bit depending on location.
@@samspam1788 people try helping the CAMHS service with better ways to improve their advice but they never listen. i’ve never met one person who has had a positive experience with them, and if you have or someone you know has then that’s great
I feel like I’m the only person who’s had a positive experience with CAMH. I was SA by my father my whole life, and he eventually tried to kill us all and himself, eventually being shot by the police. My therapist understood it was a very unique situation and she really listened to what I needed. She used to take me out for coffee and for walks and even come out to see me. She was absolutely brilliant. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her, and I think about her often. It breaks my heart that people have such bad experiences with CAMH. 💔
i’m with camhs at the minute and my personal therapist is amazing, she has helped me so much, although the crisis team are awful, i once called the crisis line when i was literally sewerslidal and they told me to “have a cup of tea and a bath”, it was honestly traumatic, they just don’t care about their patients whatsoever
i called a crisis line once and the person was so rude and even got annoyed at me because I was struggling to calm down, you could literally hear the irritation in their voice which is part of the reason I couldn't calm down
I’ve been following Eleanors channel for a long time now and she’s gained so many followers since I first found her! Totally deserved. Also, she looks like she’s shining extra bright lately.
As a therapist myself, I know that we actually CANNOT disclose that information UNLESS subpoenaed to do so. Other than that, everything is confidential (unless they plan to harm themselves or a specific person/place)

This whole case is honestly heartbreaking, the fact that he killed his gran, a woman who did everything to give him a second chance seemingly without a second thought is awful!! She was a woman who despite her own health deteriorating, still wanted to love and support her grandson and for that she was killed in what I can only imagine would be a horrific way because being trapped in a house on fire with the smoke thickening you’re going to know that you’re likely going to die with no way of surviving and not understanding why this is happening. On another note, can I just say THANK YOU for bringing awareness of the difficulties of CAMHS in the UK. I’ve personally gone through various therapy but it was never under the CAMHS header, though my experience was just as useless, but I have a younger family member who has been discharged and re-referred back to the service countless times and even when they were begging for help while being open about wanting to take their own life but CAMHS did nothing but leave them on their own to cope. They also have the same condition that I do, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) which is a damn nightmare in itself (a condition I truly wouldn’t wish upon anyone) but there are so few in the medical profession who acknowledge it and CAMHS seem to have no one who understands in our area so they just pass my family member from one person to another. It’s time that there was a proper overhaul to the system to ensure that there is relevant help and support for those in need. P.S. Apologise for the rant it’s just the first I’ve seen someone really call CAMHS out on their shocking treatment for most and I couldn’t stop myself writing
In the U.S the child protection service agency is FULL of pedos and Satanists and hand over these kids to the like. more times than not are re-victimized over and over. It's evil. The good people are so few.
CAMHS - just like the rest of the NHS but especially them - are so incredibly underfunded and overstretched they are often left with literally no means to support. So many wards have been closed down and beds nowadays are incredibly scarce, it’s almost impossible to even consider admitting a young person!! It’s really sad and I can tell you from the inside (at least in south London) it’s heartbreaking for staff as well to not be able to provide enough support. I also wanted to say that FND is not a psychiatric condition, it falls under neurology so CAMHS or general adult services don’t have much to do with it. In general non-medical staff in mental health are not trained in other types of diseases much as they have a different training pathway. Anyway I really agree with your point and wanted to express my frustration because I work in adult mental health and it’s such a struggle to continuously have to prioritise one person over another due to the lack of resources
@@silanthaler It honestly breaks my heart to think of what you must go through being on the inside, I know I hear about so much happening to funding and beds it’s awful and throughout the pandemic it’s only made it worse. Also, THANK YOU for acknowledging that FND is neurological, sadly around here (I’m in Fife, Scotland) neurology say it’s upto CAMHS/Adult psychology services yet CAMHS/AP along with the majority of medical staff here have no clue whatsoever. Teaching staff (in the case of my family member) and social services are all confused on who should and shouldn’t be helping and there are zero services/groups that can help out with basic things. I’m 28 and have just had to get a wheelchair so I can get outside as my legs will randomly stopped working and I have non-epileptic seizures that go above 30 a day on a good day so I’m fully reliant on others to help. Sadly medical and non-medical services are of no help and since very few people have an awareness of the condition most don’t understand at all and make comments or toss insults
Kind of weird that the cops didn't pick up on the smoke detectors being removed and the phone line being disconnected. Unless it all burned up in the fire and there was no evidence
As someone who lost her grandmother last year this case makes me feel sick I can't imagine how scared his poor grandmother was. For clarification: I'm a training psychologist. I work in the US so I don't know for sure how it works in the UK, but because of client privilege, the therapist wouldn't legally be allowed to call the police and due to his age couldn't inform his parents. If a crime was committed in the past, even murder, it's protected. Now if he had said he was planning on killing someone else, then the therapist would have been obligated to take certain steps within his legal purview to prevent this. Hope this helps!
I was thinking the same exact thing when she was explaining that part! I understand the rule but it’s unfortunate when it delays investigations like this
I'm in my final year studying to be a counsellor in the UK and yeah murder is protected. If you did disclose you could be reported to the BPS. You can report direct active threats to people and anything to do with child abuse.
Would you mind explaining how those laws make moral sense? I'm curious how something as serious as murder cannot be disclosed to the proper authorities. I'd appreciate any input.
just a theory for him dropping out of 2 colleges, it could have been his anxiety, he dropped out once because of his anxiety, but as Eleanor amazingly said, he didn't want to be behind everyone else, so enrolled in a new college, but the same problems occurred, and he decided just to drop out again
I was homeschooled in the UK and it is big there too. Homeschooling doesn't mean being locked up in your house all day, usually I'd have one other activity every weekday, with other homeschooled children. The group I was in had around 50 children, not everyone would go to everything, but for example, thursdays we'd have PE together, Wednesday's we'd have drama and some other activity, tuesdays we'd have science and I think fridays was glass art and mondays was rock climbing. The mums would hire private teachers for the activities and everyone would chip in so that it wasnt crazy expensive. Most subjects like maths, English etc... were taught at home, but sometimes we would go to some lectures as a group. Not everyone would spend time together all the time, some people would only go to some activities and some to others etc... and there were some that I didnt go to. I was also in a church choir and in the scouts. I was only homeschooled for a couple years, from 8 to 10, but it was definitely a good experience. It was very good for my social skills since there wasn't much bullying. I was homeschooled because my school wouldn't let us take as many vacations as my family would like to. Being homeschooled let me go faster than we would learn at school, after going back to school I had to wait around 3 years before I started learning new major things. (they dont let you skip grades in my country)

My grandmother had dementia, and was in a memory care facility at dinner with my dad when she passed away. I was on a date (first and last with that person) when I got the call. Yes, Grandma didn't recognize any of us anymore, she was physically deteriorating, but we chose to make sure she was taken care of and visited her daily, rather than set fire to her home after making sure she couldn't escape. hi, Eleanor. thank you for your videos, ur wonderful. yesterday i found out about a murder that happened in Ukraine. as a russian, i was really interested in the case. and then i was shocked by the horror of what happened: a 13 year old boy raped a 6 year old girl two times and then murdered her. i dont think you can find much info about the case on the internet, but if you're interested in covering it, the girl's name is Miroslava Tretyak (Мирослава Третяк). the thing is, the boy was charged with 3 (!!!) years in special institution. so basically he's free because he's untriable due to his age. it's just horrible. this human isn't a boy, he's a monster...
I’m just reading up on this and it says “The teen's own sister said: “Once he caught a kitten and pricked its eyes out. Then he grabbed it by the tail and beat it to death against a wall.””
When we talk about CAMHS, I only know people with negative experiences. I was in hospital at 16 after an attempt on my life. They arrived after I had my stomach pumped and took me into an office and told me that all teenagers go through this…huh? Finally got CBT when i was desperate and pregnant at 25 last year because I wanted to be the best mother I could to my little girl and I feel SO much better but it took 9 years for actual therapy and not just medication. CBT isn’t good for everyone but i would recommend it for people who have mental illness as a result of their childhood. ✨
I was with CAMHS too. They tried to convince everyone that I was autistic without even organizing an evaluation. I'm not autistic. They were just trying to blame everyone but themselves for their disgraceful works.

I’m curious that fire fighters didn’t think that it was weird, having a table right outside blocking Mary’s doorway? Smoke detector damaged and phone line cut? Are those reasons not enough to think it was not an accident? 🧐
You also have to think it's not that fire fighters job to and the police had no idea there was this conflict going on between the two. And since she did have dementia and was known to be a heavy smoker (With also the cigarette starting the fire) It very well seems that she was the one who accidentally started the fire :(( Very very sad
I’m not making excuses for this kid, I never graduated high school due to severe anxiety and never in my darkest moments would i ever harm another living thing. I do however wish people in positions of power would take stories like this in and realize that giving EVERYONE access to proper mental health care is literally life or death. I’ve been to places just like the one Eleanor talked about. They don’t care about you, listen to you or take into account the fact that what you see on the surface level is not always what is on the inside of a person. Just makes me livid because I know how much big corporations love to say they support mental health and have you donate money to some whack institution that alienates people from their feelings and only people with money can have access to good therapists.
YES! the whole situation with CAMHS is horrific honestly ! my experience was just alright because i myself had a good therapist but some people i personally know have had HORRIBLE experiences with CAMHS. one person i know got told to "go home and have a bath" and another was told to "go a walk and have a cup of green tea". the UKs mental health support for teens is honestly horrendous.smh.
I hate that a lot, especially because people who are struggling barely have enough motivation to do the absolute minimum and the therapists should know that. You can't give WikiHow advice to somebody who is genuinely struggling with mental illness, those are things you say to somebody who is just feeling a little down for the day.
It isn’t just the UK unfortunately. Mental healthcare is horrible everywhere. At least you aren’t stuck with insane bills from your shit therapists lol

Hi! Social work major here! Where I live in Canada (and many other countries), therapists have to keep the professional secrecy. If the act committed was in the past, whatever what the act is, it is actually illegal to report it to the police. Hope that clears thing up ☺️
Eleanor, I didn’t even recognize you in the thumbnail, you look fantastic! Congrats on the Disney+ sponsor😭 maybe you’ll have your own show there one day
As far as the therapist goes, I’m pretty sure that it would be doctor-patient confidentiality. They are only supposed to break this confidentiality if they are planning on hurting someone else or themselves. So if they already killed someone, I don’t think they can legally tell anyone. I could be wrong, but I believe I have heard of that same exact situation before.
Due to confidentiality, a therapist may not generally disclose the contents of a therapy session with the police, even if the client has admitted to committing a crime.

I absolutely love the light makeup today!! Also, a Disney+ sponsor??? Out of all the things to sponsor I wouldn't expect a true crime video, Congratulations!!!
Have you seen half the shit on Disney+ now? The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Criminal Minds, the list goes on and I’m sure parents can attempt to safeguard them but jeez. They’ll really stack anything for a profit share lol
Plus people need to do some research on all of the Disney employees that have been associated with obtaining child abuse material recently. Abductions from their parks have been going on for years . Kids trafficked left right and centre. Subliminal messages in their animations that include disgusting imagery. If only people knew ☹️
Stuck at home bored because we are in the middle of an ice storm in Arkansas 🥶 Thankfully Eleanor just made my day again. Been missing her so much! Thanks for the upload 😀
My experience with CAMHs is shocking too, as is everyone else that I know. A list of issues includes but are not limited to: - I am transgender, they refer to me with my dead name, book appointments with my dead name and have my chosen name in quotation marks (e.g; Jessica 'James' Jones). - They repeatedly broke confidentiality - My therapist also had social anxiety which was great because it'd be like, 20 minutes of us sitting there in dead silence - I was not listened to or treated like an adult at all It's a shame that CAMHS is the only way I could get my diagnosis and medication. Thank god I aged out of CAMHS. Every session was torture, I hated it so much
@@makiroll218 if someone who is transgender chooses to change their name, their dead name would be the name that they were born with (the one they used before they changed their name). for example if you are a trans man, your dead name would be the name that you had before you came out, when you were still seen as a girl.
I actually used to work at a clinic and legally they had to use “insert name” if the patient hasnt legally changed their name. However every time someone entered the patients chart there would be an alert about the transgender/non-binary/other patient’s preferred/chosen name. We wouldnt refer or call them with their birth name, at least not on purpose
i appreciate your work i cant even imagine how hard it has to be to prepare everything for those videos and to do research on all these cases, and then explaining everything so understandable and professional?! like wow thank you so much for being such an amazing person
I love this natural look you've been sporting as of late&you look gorgeous, just sayin❤ Also, someone like this didn't deserve a grandmother as kind snd sweet as Mary. This case is just so terribly sad 😔
Coming from someone with severe social anxiety that made me not able to go to school for a while homeschool is NOT gonna help at all. When you have trouble being around people and just staying at home is just gonna make it worse. I am lucky that my school offers special education I could get into where the classes are smaller (I haven't had a class with more than 5 people since I was 13) I think that should be a thing everywhere. It has really helped me and I am basically at school full time now.
I love the fact he’s so casual about it and then he’s like no I was lying it’s a misunderstanding😅. That will be the new phrase for all murders from now on🤦♀️✨
tiernan struggling with anxiety/social anxiety and depression so then having to do homeschool, sounds exactly like my situation. Except I’m not a murderer, just a very very unstable teenager who does online school bc I’d get panic attacks as soon as I entered school

When I was in high school (small town Ohio) another local boy killed his grandma then went to a party we were all at afterward… it was so creepy and insane when it came out what he did. He stabbed her over 40 times and hid her in a closet.
As someone whose grandmother is 83 years of age, and living on borrowed time, this sickens me to my core. I love my grandmother so much, and the day she leaves this World will be the worst day of my Life.
I suffer with depression and anxiety and it’s horrible, the anxiety can be even worse then depression at times, it’s very difficult 😥 after every thing she done for him
I home school both my kids and we live in the UK. There are hundreds of thousands of homeschooling families, not doing so as a last resort but as an active choice for our children. Absolutely loved the video, just trying to add a voice for those who choose to home school 😊
Another great video! Have you ever thought about covering the Brandon Teena case? Its quite interesting yet heartbreaking, it was even turned into a movie called "boys don't cry."
Legally, as a therapist you have to report immanent threats under the Terasoff Law, if you have the person's name to the police at least in California. It is my understanding that past crimes are covered by confidentiality unless the police have a warrant for a patients records.
But how does the counsellor not classify that as a threat to others? Like, if someone can burn down another person’s house and kill them simply because they set appropriate boundaries, then they are just a ticking time bomb waiting for the next time someone sets boundaries or argues with him.
it’s the fact that mary would never know her own family started the fire and killed her, i bet she was so scared and thought it was her fault. how cruel
This makes me feel sick 😞😞😞
Not really because, I’m sure as she tried to get out, seeing all the random obstacles in her path must have raised suspicions that I don’t necessarily she thought of too long about because of the panic she must have been in. Probably thought it was a bad dream. But FOR SURE she must have known she didn’t place those things there.
@@dontcallmeimdead.9556 imagine how betrayed she must’ve felt if she suspected him starting the fire, honestly it’s so sad

Hi Eleanor, I am a therapist and here (in Belgium) it’s not legal for a therapist to report past crimes if a patient makes a confession, I can only break confidentiality to prevent future harm (which was definitely the case here given the google searches, but I thought you’d find it interesting!)
Oh wow really? I never knew it was illegal
All the unsolved murders out there are scary enough, but the fact that there's even more people that aren't even being looked for because no one knows there was even a murder in the first place....so sad :(
@@cassandra_cassowary honestly, there should have been an investigation so its baffling that it was classed as an accident despite the obvious foul play present. the table pushed up against the door from the inside like??? the firefighters really looked at that and said "yea that's fine that's normal?" there's no way he shoud've been able to get away with that for so long
Oh that's just freaked me out lmao, this is why I have trust issues, you never fully know someone's past except your own 😭✋
Exactly what I was thinking
Same thoughts here as well!
Bless you and your sweet grandma.

Do we know for certain though that the therapist wouldn't have done anything? It sounds like they actually did the best thing they could have done in that situation.

I’m a mental health counselor in the US. if a client told me that they had killed someone in the past, I legally and ethically cannot tell anyone. it’s covered in confidentiality. the only times I can break confidentiality are when someone’s life is currently in danger, such as suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, elder abuse, and child abuse. if my client said this I would definitely assess them to make sure they are not currently homicidal. if I told someone that my client had killed someone in the past, I can lose my license and pay hefty fines.
not sure what the laws and ethics in the UK are. just my experience
I wondered about this, I knew there was a really high level of confidentiality that therapists had to provide but thought they'd have to tell about something like this.

They'd lose their license if they did and ultimately nothing would come of it because no judge would hold that up in the court of law.
I work in behavioral health (in the USA so maybe it’s different in that country), but the confidentiality agreement doesn’t apply to disclosures like that. They usually actually have you sign a treatment form which states it somewhere on there.

As someone who lost her grandmother last year this case makes me feel sick I can't imagine how scared his poor grandmother was. Mary seemed like such a lovely woman and that picture of her you used was absolutely beautiful, I can't believe how he could have got away with such a horrific act if he hadn't confessed💔. When I'm a qualified psychologist I vow to not be that person that just lets something slide if they are unsure.
As soon as I saw Mary’s picture, I knew this case straight away. I saw it in the paper and it was heartbreaking.
same honestly
Actually LOL'd when Eleanor said CAMHS was rubbish. Having my 16 yr old under the service currently I could not agree more!!!
She was waaayy too nice about them, I'd of spent the half hour having a rant
Agreed! i told the lady working there not to bring up a triggering subject again. and guess what she did? she bought it up and questioned me about it. i was so upset after.
I went at 16 and they basically said "well you can get support here, but you'll be 18 soon then have to transfer somewhere else anyways, so you may as well just not be here" is basically what they said 😂
@@opidasdagoat exactly what happened to my daughter!!

No kidding! I’m surprised this is the first comment I’ve seen addressing that! I’m so damn impressed 👀
i was surprised they’d sponsor true crime! they’re so image centered

It’s so sadistic to kill anyone, especially a family member who tried to give you a chance to live normally. May Mary rest in peace and I hope he rots in hell. Anyways. Amazing video like always! I was wondering…can you cover the Michael Moss case? Love you, Eli! ❤️

I was going to say the same thing! I'm a Social Worker in the US and those are the rules we have to follow too.
I was thinking the same exact thing when she was explaining that part! I understand the rule but it’s unfortunate when it delays investigations like this
wow thank you for explaining this! i can't believe even murder is protected under that rule!
I'd appreciate any input.
holy cow girl, this is my first video in like a year, you look so different but equally amazing. i was like is this even the same girl?!??
Been watching you for years, CONGRATS on being sponsored by DISNEY PLUS!!! so happy that you’ve grown so much you deserve it! ❤️❤️
Disney are groomers. Rotten ppl
this is so heart breaking. the thought of even upsetting my grandmother makes me feel sick never mind what he did.
just a theory for him dropping out of 2 colleges, it could have been his anxiety, he dropped out once because of his anxiety, but as Eleanor amazingly said, he didn't want to be behind everyone else, so enrolled in a new college, but the same problems occurred, and he decided just to drop out again
I hope Eleanor knows genuinely how much she makes our days better😇

I work as a therapist and you absolutely have a duty to break confidentiality in that situation!
In December my gran died because of a house fire (also died in hospital) and hearing this case fills me with so much rage because it feels very personal. The fact that I lost my gran like that will haunt me forever and he just does that to his because of an argument? Genuinely a disgusting person.
@@MoonBerryBat this was two months ago but thank you!! I'm doing a lot better now :)
I live in the uk and im homeschooled due to anxiety and depression and I’m also autistic but the school refused to help and give me the support I needed but since I’ve left I’ve came a lot more confident and not struggling as much and have also been to CAMHs and had such bad experiences
I wish u nothing but the best
I had the exact same experience, my school didn’t care about helping at all. I eventually got diagnosed as autistic at 17, missed my entire high school education and was left feeling really far behind in life. I’m 20 now, I’ve made much better progress on my own than I ever did with CAMHs help. I wish you the best!
This is just incomprehensible to me. My internet history is worrisome enough, but nothing like Tiannon's--and includes plenty of cats and mermaids as well as serial killers, behavioral psychology, and anarchy, so I think the powers that be know I'm relatively harmless. Never in my life have I searched "might be a budding serial killer, please help"!
hi, Eleanor. thank you for your videos, ur wonderful.
yesterday i found out about a murder that happened in Ukraine. as a russian, i was really interested in the case. and then i was shocked by the horror of what happened: a 13 year old boy raped a 6 year old girl two times and then murdered her. i dont think you can find much info about the case on the internet, but if you're interested in covering it, the girl's name is Miroslava Tretyak (Мирослава Третяк). the thing is, the boy was charged with 3 (!!!) years in special institution. so basically he's free because he's untriable due to his age.
it's just horrible. this human isn't a boy, he's a monster...
Wow……
this worlds fucked up
I’m just reading up on this and it says “The teen's own sister said: “Once he caught a kitten and pricked its eyes out.
im currently going through CBT for my PTSD and tbf it really does help, I can see my light at the end of the tunnel finally ❤❤❤
@@charlie-mariebell8751 so happy to hear that! I wish you all the best for your recovery 💖
I was with CAMHS too. They tried to convince everyone that I was autistic without even organizing an evaluation. I'm not autistic. They were just trying to blame everyone but themselves for their disgraceful works.
@@charlie-mariebell8751 you are so strong 💕
@@KatieAliceGamer i got diagnosed with ADHD (i dont have ADHD) and put on strong meds when i was about 13-14 that had lasting affects on my height and weight, but all i needed was therapy for the things i was going through as a kid. Thanks so much for covering this case, I am from the area and remember this happening. Tiernan was actually a mutual friend at the time... very scary stuff. I'm so glad he is in prison now and hopefully he never gets out.
I watch true crime stuff all the time so normally hearing of murders doesn't phase me but when you described the details of him setting up obstacles to ensure she couldn't escape the fire... that floored and disgusted me. Such deplorable consideration he took to ensure her death. How awful. I feel so bad for the stepda
Same, that really messed me up to hear :(
I’m curious that fire fighters didn’t think that it was weird, having a table right outside blocking Mary’s doorway? Smoke detector damaged and phone line cut? Are those reasons not enough to think it was not an accident? 🧐
You also have to think it's not that fire fighters job to and the police had no idea there was this conflict going on between the two. And since she did have dementia and was known to be a heavy smoker (With also the cigarette starting the fire) It very well seems that she was the one who accidentally started the fire :(( Very very sad
@@anxpants yes it is very sad indeed :(
I’m not making excuses for this kid, I never graduated high school due to severe anxiety and never in my darkest moments would i ever harm another living thing.
They amount of different ones that have said to me to read a book or bake cakes? Like I need a little more than that hun🤣
@@kiera6678The point is that they are trying to get you to do something outside of your problems. They don't have the time, and this is the problem, to know you personally, too suggest personally catered hobbies.
i know!!! i ended up SH a few years ago and they just told me ''not to do it again and go for a walk when i feel like doing it again'' or they'd tell me to ''draw and listen to music''

You’re exactly right!
that's pretty much it, same as the seal of the confessional.
Due to confidentiality, a therapist may not generally disclose the contents of a therapy session with the police, even if the client has admitted to committing a crime.
Thats why she got the dad in so he could hear it and not be under an oath of confidentiality
I love how you tell the stories and how you don't make excuses for them, there are just bad ppl in this world. RIP to that poor lady 💔
Can we take a moment to appreciate Eleanor's hair; it looks so shiny and healthy! My niece is a similar age and she has very similar red hair, she loves being a ginger ❤️

As someone who was in the system from the age of 13 to 17, I immensely appreciate your critique of the NHS mental health services (especially the young people division)!
As someone who’s always lived with they’re granny and now cares for her now as she has dementia, this absolutely sickens me. May beautiful Mary rest in peace and he goes to hell

I lived with my maternal grandma for a time back when I was a young child and it absolutely breaks my heart to think of anyone doing that to their own grandma. There is no defending his actions, I cannot think of anything much worse.
My grandma was my best friend. I would give anything to have her back - someone like him doesn’t deserve someone like Mary. May she rest in paradise 🕊🤍
And may the mental health services/professionals recognise their complicity in this case.
The fact I’m watching this on May 28th 24 as well, hearing that about his step grandmother is nuts 😮
I’ve never had a case near my area before by Eleanor and hearing this stuff happen so close to me makes me realise how this stuff can happen anywhere. His grandma sounds amazing bless her heart ❤️
Me too I’m from Lancaster and I go to Lmc
The quote “I’m turning into a serial killer “ suggests to me that he’s killed more than 1 but less than 3 people, doesn’t anyone else think that?

What a horrible person, murderering an old lady who tried to help him. Even if she would have been very strict, she saved him from homelessness when his own mom was done with him and this is how he repaid her. Infuriating.
Right when you put the picture of his step grandmother up my heart immediately sunk

You’re really talented in the way you present these stories. I have tried watching other true crime UA-cam channels but they aren’t put together like yours so I’m just not as engaged. You always have cases I’ve never heard of as well! This one was really sad. Never stop making these videos please 💕
I absolutely love the light makeup today!! Also, a Disney+ sponsor??? Out of all the things to sponsor I wouldn't expect a true crime video, Congratulations!!!
I wouldn’t celebrate being associated with Disney.

Aww bless, she looked like the most lovely woman ever. How could anyone do that to their own grandmother? Poor woman. RIP mary :(
My experience with CAMHs is shocking too, as is everyone else that I know. A list of issues includes but are not limited to:
- I am transgender, they refer to me with my dead name, book appointments with my dead name and have my chosen name in quotation marks (e.g; Jessica 'James' Jones).
- They repeatedly broke confidentiality
- My therapist also had social anxiety which was great because it'd be like, 20 minutes of us sitting there in dead silence
- I was not listened to or treated like an adult at all
It's a shame that CAMHS is the only way I could get my diagnosis and medication. Thank god I aged out of CAMHS. Every session was torture, I hated it so much
What’s a dead name?
@@makiroll218 if someone who is transgender chooses to change their name, their dead name would be the name that they were born with (the one they used before they changed their name). for example if you are a trans man, your dead name would be the name that you had before you came out, when you were still seen as a girl.
Oh that sounds awful I am so sorry you've been treated like this :(
I actually used to work at a clinic and legally they had to use “insert name” if the patient hasnt legally changed their name. However every time someone entered the patients chart there would be an alert about the transgender/non-binary/other patient’s preferred/chosen name. We wouldnt refer or call them with their birth name, at least not on purpose
I’m crying the therapist had social anxiety too😭😭
i appreciate your work
i cant even imagine how hard it has to be to prepare everything for those videos and to do research on all these cases, and then explaining everything so understandable and professional?! like wow thank you so much for being such an amazing person

Also, someone like this didn't deserve a grandmother as kind snd sweet as Mary.

I suffer with depression and anxiety and it’s horrible, the anxiety can be even worse then depression at times, it’s very difficult 😥 after every thing she done for him
Never expected the area I live in to end up on this channel, but here we are!
I'm so glad he confessed and she got justice. ❤
I remember that movie that was so sad 😢
Legally, as a therapist you have to report immanent threats under the Terasoff Law, if you have the person's name to the police at least in California. It is my understanding that past crimes are covered by confidentiality unless the police have a warrant for a patients records.
But how does the counsellor not classify that as a threat to others? Like, if someone can burn down another person’s house and kill them simply because they set appropriate boundaries, then they are just a ticking time bomb waiting for the next time someone sets boundaries or argues with him.
