- As I wait for a verdict on the planning application for the new bunker, I make good progress in the tunnel and get the equipment ready for the big dig

Thanks Dave, that's big progress on the tunnel, it feels seriously long now! Lights look good! I'm amazed how quickly you come up with those sheet metal folded designs. Don't stress yourself out with this, we can wait if things take longer! Keep spending your time with your family, they're much more important than us on UA-cam, even if there are 30k of us.

Colin's tunnels are a lot larger ... Larger equals more material. The main thing is safety!
Colin’s build is a lot bigger scale and in a harder location, I think he is also making some good progress at the moment as well 😀

The lights look really good!
Roots of some plants can definitely go deep to find moisture. If you have a layer of gravel if collects and keeps water so the roots travel down it. We have pipes at 2-3 m sometimes and the tree roots find their way in to them
But the roots don’t go through the red gravel above it

I guess the Planners would have mentioned that if they really want you to remove something in order to allow the new thing, the most effective thing is to say (as a condition of the permission, set out on the decision notice) you can't commence or occupy the new thing until the old thing is demolished. Alternatively they would give a timeframe to remove it. Unless you are in the Green Belt and there is a limit on the volume of extensions to the original house, I still think (admittedly without the benefit of knowledge of the site, area and local planning policy) it is a bit harsh to require you to remove the conservatory.

Great video Dave! I'm honestly surprised you haven't made some sort of giant hoover with a tube into the tunnel to remove material 😅
I was going to do it, I thought use a scrap engine powered by another with a big tank etc but then I thought I will have the tunnel finished before I get that done and the pipe would cost a fortune, maybe next tunnel 😂

You missed a Stalag Luft III tunnel. After the escape and Harry was sealed up, they started a new one out of the theatre and called it George.
If it’s never been excavated or never been dug out, you can possibly run a small gold vine with all the dirt you’re already taken out and I know you’ll find something

I was wondering if you connect the bilge pump up to a solar charger so that it could run continually. Just a thought, just wondering if you get any sun like we do. 🤔 And the lights are brilliant. I was thinking of running the 12v tunnel electric off a solar charged battery so it’s always ready to go, the lights are great, just cause some flickering so need to change my frame rate I film with I think 😀
This project is awesome. But the motorized tunnel sled feels like a brutal injury waiting to happen.

Considering the fact that prior to ww2 that area was likely farms, the root could be no older than 100.

I don't know how you manage to work on your back like that for so long. I spend 5 minutes on my back working on my car and I'm absolutely beat. It's crazy how exhausting it is to hold your head up while working on your back.
After 6 months you get used to it 😂
If that hoverboard is using its original battery I wouldn't like to be down there if it decided to self-combust as they do sometimes - lots of toxic fumes. Lead-acid batteries would be much safer for use in a confined space.
Yes it’s lithium, I was under the impression they normally burn when being charged though and I can do that outside the bunker 😀
@@Tornado_Dave They can also fail during discharge - probably a small chance but very serious consequences if it did when you're deep in the tunnel trapped behind it
Found this channel from Colin's - very cool, but I honestly have no idea what this guy is building haha. Very small little tunnels underground that he has to crawl through? Terrifying.
Designed for electric tunnel carts and connecting 2 underground bunkers, the theme of the tunnel is the great escape 😀

How much has all the sheet metal cost you so far?
I think it costs about £50 per foot so about £2k including the escape hatch

First video I am watching so no idea if covered before but how are you getting mobile or WiFi signal while down the end of a 25ft metal tube underground? Do you have an access point aimed down the tunnel?
I have a Wi-Fi extender that runs through the plug sockets somehow, I will try and include it on the next video 😀
@@Tornado_Dave ah must be a powerline device. Was just interested as I work designing networks and WiFi and an underground small metal tube has to be one of the worst RF environments I can imagine. Was surprised when you had your phone out streaming video down there. Would be interested to where it is located in reference the the tunnel.

It is a good build. I do not like it because you did not make it where you can walk down. It would be 100% better if you could just walk down.
I think it will be better like this when finished but only time will tell, if you could come back at the end of the project and give your verdict that would be great because I personally think the small tunnel makes the theme of the finished job better 😀
@@Tornado_Dave You will regret bldg it like that as you get older. Making it so small does not make sense. How many times do you have to hit your leg, head, hands, etc on it before you admit you made it too small.
