How To Be An Effective Cult Leader

  • Anyone can join a cult. But not on purpose!
Psychological studies have demonstrated how easy it is for groups of people to spiral into fully fledged fanatics.
That’s why it takes a real mastermind to lead their own fellowship. And it’s why the hallmarks of generating a cult of personality can be seen in business and politics.
Take the legacy of Steve Jobs’s Apple presentations. Or the passion of Trump supporters and anti-Trump supporters. What about sports nuts who life and breath their teams colours?
Whether you’d like to admit it or not, one time or another you’ve been brainwashed by groupthink.
So maybe you want to see if you have what it takes to be promoted to a dearly loved leader, or maybe you want to know the red flags before your yoga teacher asks you to drink the Kool-Aid.
It’s time to learn How History Works as we explain “How To Be A Cult Leader”.

Cults are oddly anti-fun and anti-joy aren't they? They seem to prey on those who were starved for joy and flow in life and therefore can't recognize when that's lacking. They also seem to prey on people who want to prove to themselves, someone else or something that they are "good." The whole "born sinner" aspect of Christianity probably contributed to that.

He shows people today since that's the stick (nope just the 4 repeated sources that kept rewriting each other and adding bits). Don't worry God switched from Hebrew to Greek since we all know Greek now (nope). Even switched to Arabic next but that doesn't count. Stop it right at the Greek, fuck the people that stop at Hebrew and the ones that go on to Arabic.
"Friend", you're in a cult too. Try this, does "People deserve to burn forever for not knowing this Greek text from 2000 years ago is all that matters and you have to just believe it", sound like a reasonable statement to you? This reminds me of a sales workshop I went to. The question was asked what's the difference between the techniques for 'ethical sales' and shady manipulation. The instructor simply said... intent.

    • @thearabianmage
      @thearabianmage 10 місяців тому +5

Then the instructor didn’t pay attention during _their_ sales workshop.
Sales is (edit - _should_ in an ideal world) based on persuasion. You need to persuade the buyer that they need what you have. The more relevant question is: what’s the difference between persuasion and manipulation? In a very tight nutshell:
      Persuasion: both parties benefit
      Manipulation: one party benefits.
Compromise also plays a key role in the difference, as well. For example, if the same party is both compromising _and_ not benefitting, there’s a very strong chance they’re actually just being manipulated. I think intent plays a part, but I also think it’s a disservice to only attribute intent as the sole differentiator.
(Examples: seller has 10 of a product, but convinces buyer it’s their last and charges double. Buyer has compromised more cash and has less product for their money. Manipulation. Scenario B: seller has 10, buyer offers to buy 2 for 1, seller agrees - seller has made a sale but compromised more stock and buyer has more product for their money. Persuasion. The buyer was still persuaded to part with their cash, even if they made the offer.)
I’ve worked in both manipulative and persuasive sales scenarios and the former is soul destroying, would not recommend.
Some people thrive on it, though, and being able to spot it helps me avoid these people like the plague they are.

    • @_CoachW
      @_CoachW 10 місяців тому +8

@@thearabianmage We're going to agree to disagree. Yes there is a difference in the definition of the words.
But what is the difference maker in the techniques? A review of Cialdini's book Influence paints a pretty clear picture. Whether for good or bad. The root techniques are the same.
You might feel different based on what they are used for. But the difference in my observation is for the most part intent.
Hence the difference in the effect on you as well. That which enriches you lifts you up, that which is deadening does not. But the techniques don't change.

Funny how psychopaths come in different shades. A friend of my family has an ex-husband who is a good manipulator but an even greater gaslighter. He's loud and brash, with his true self hidden beneath the nice guy noise that he doesn't turn on for his ex-wife and kids. Their church (now her former church), and even the local police believe he's an upstanding man and that his wife is the crazy one that won't get out of his life. As a Christian going into law enforcement next year, this compounds my disgust for her situation.
Anyway, he's not at all sneaky like your guy, but he makes it work, and both personalities can function or "lead" within a cult context, which I find fascinating. Of course, they only involve themselves to the extent of their own benefit.

A successful cult is a religion. But to be a religion you gotta do extraordinary things that cultist nowadays too lazy to do. For example, Muhammad had to flee and engage in warfare. Jesus had to fight the government and get killed. Moses also ran away from his homeland. Buddha had to starve himself near death.
Cults nowadays are too self serving, they want immediate gratification. I mean, I understand they just want sex and money. But there's no grand vision of the future.

"The Romans have been defeated in the lowest land, but after their defeat they will soon be victorious. Within three to nine years. The decision of the matter, before and after, is with God.” (Quran 30:2-4)

And Mohammed? "He had the Quran." yes, WHICH HE WROTE. And then went on several genocidal campaigns because his god told him to. Yes, that very same god he invented. The very same god whom he invented and who told him it's okay to marry children, the fucking creep.

Nope. A religion is based on helping others while cults are a based on helping the cult lider or the cult itself, making anyone that isnt part of it your enemy. Jesus, buddha and Muhammad didnt did what they did to get money or followers, but they did what they thought was right and that would help everyone else have a better life. And they didn't saw non followers as enemies, but as either misguided or just fellow brothers.

@@H.LeonideSouza "And they didn't saw non followers as enemies, but as either misguided or just fellow brothers." First of all, didn't see, not didn't saw. Second, Mohammed was very strict about the need to murder or enslave ANYONE who didn't worship him through his god.
Jesus wasn't a prophet but a proper parasite, didn't even have a job, but felt like he could constantly tell others how to live. Until his own people had enough of his shit and simply killed him, with Roman approval.
And Buddha? Yeah, his teachings seem to be along at least SOME common sense. Even though his "Imma starve myself until you guys start giving me some attention" is also pretty weird.
The only difference between a cult a religion is it's size and following, that's it. "Worship me through my god and stay on your knees. Stop thinking, I'll do that for you. Stop asking questions, it's bad for the current order of things. And for me."

If I ever started my own religious group, I would ensure that it is not dangerous. Basically there would be no mass suicide, s*xual favors, celebacy, isolation, insomnia, drugs, and I would absolutely NOT psychologically torment my followers. I am far too nice to do anything these evil cult leaders have done, and I know how it feels to be manipulated, and I don't want to spread such pain. I guess that it'd be more of a friend group that allows for mutualistic support than a cult.

If i start a religious cult that includes sex but excludes pedophilia and murder, is it legal?
Like, we hear crime stories about the ones that end in mass tragedy, and the remainder all sound like MLMs, but if i just legit started my own and it didn't include those things, can i register myself as a religious organisation? It sounds like a great tax gig at the very least.
    Plus sex, right?

    • @Fritz_Schlunder
      @Fritz_Schlunder 9 місяців тому +1

A "cult" is a religion that does not have a big following yet, and is thus vulnerable to being labelled and attacked by the other religions, by calling it a "cult". Not all cults engage in illegal activities or do outrageous things, like the ones highlighted in this video. If one believes history, then basically all of the currently existing religions and various sects/denominations of religions that are well accepted by mainstream society today (including Christianity), presumably started out with very small followings and were effectively "cults", with the possible exception of Judaism.
If one believes the Old Testament as literally correct history, then Moses presumably helped start what evolved into modern day Judaism. However, in the case of Judaism, it presumably bypassed the "cult" stage and developed immediately into a well established religion, due to strong and undeniable supernatural intervention by the God of Israel (ex: starting with the "ten plagues of Egypt", followed by a parting of the Red Sea, followed by taking care of the Israelites as they wandered the desert, such as by way of making "mana" rain from the sky). The Israelites did not have "faith" that their God existed, they knew with certainty that their God existed and was very powerful, based on overwhelming evidence presented by way of direct supernatural intervention.
Other currently accepted/tolerated/respected religions, including Mormonism, essentially did start out as a "cult", as it had a very small initial following, that eventually grew into a much larger following, whereby it eventually became accepted as a real religion, rather than continuing to be labeled and attacked by the other religions as a "cult".
If you start a new religion in the US, and it supports sex (in ways that are considered legal by the US government), and it does oppose other activities that are against the US laws (such as pedophilia), then in theory, the religion should be fully "legal" (in terms of "man's laws", but not necessarily "God's laws"), within the US. The first amendment of the US constitution reads:
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.
Basically, unless the US government tries to break the law, then the US government is not supposed to prevent the free exercise of any particular religion, assuming the members of the of the religion are otherwise adhering to the laws of the US. If individual members of a religion are not adhering to aspects of the law, then individual members that are found to be not adhering to the law, can be tried and punished for breaking the law, but the government itself should not be outright banning the religion, unless the government is disregarding the first amendment of the US constitution, and is therefore itself breaking the law.
That said, if you are genuinely considering starting your own religion, I would ask you the following questions:
      1. Does your religion include one or more actual deity figures with effectively supernatural ability to influence things on the Earth?
      2. Do you have a means of communicating with the deity figure(s)?
      3. Have the deity figure(s) personally demonstrated their deity status to you, by way of performing supernatural phenomena in violation of the established laws of physics, and by way of demonstrating knowledge of the future, and by way of demonstrating considerably higher than human levels of intelligence?
      4. Is the deity that you personally recognize as the highest deity, the "God of Israel"?
If you answer the above questions honestly, and the answer is "no" to any one or more of the above questions, then I would recommend against starting your new cult/religion.
The reason I say the above, is because the God of Israel is not fake, is very much real, and is going to start taking a much more active role in Earth affairs in the future. Additionally, the God of Israel is going to start effectively punishing people for placing other gods above the God of Israel, as warned against, in Exodus 20:3.
Basically, now is not a good time in human history to be starting a new cult/religion, that is fake. The time for false religions remaining on the Earth is almost over. The God of Israel is ultimately going to destroy all of the false religions of the Earth. There is only one actually true truth that exists, and it cannot exist in multiple religions simultaneously, when they all conflict with each other. When all religions conflict with each other, at most, only one of them can be actually correct. Additionally, if any religion does not recognize the God of Israel as the highest deity, and as actually existing, then it is definitely not a correct religion, and people should not follow it.

After all the tutorials, know that you have to find the Cult Spirit within yourself. It is this Spirit that will then annoint you as a Messiah for the people.

How bout, let's form a cult of nonconformists who's spiritual journey is escaping the tortorous labor exchange, thereby discovering revolutionary lifestyles that go against the grain of debt and wage slavery? We could dance and scream non-sequitors at will while eating hand picked psychodelic mushrooms and drinking pruno. We'll wake up each day and create art en masse to sell to suckers. We'll create great art and only share it with the deserving few.
Our end will be when we become known to the extent of popularism. When people come out of the woodwork because joining is the "cool" thing to do. But we wont murder or die, we'll fragment and individually disseminate the culture across the globe, spreading the vibe, and eventually new cults will form organically. Until one day we rule the world. 😂
