"It's immoral to let a sucker keep his money". Well, that's what the seasoned con artist would
say.
This cheeky motto might seem like a tongue-in-cheek justification for their crafty heists. But
let's face it, sometimes it's hard to muster sympathy for their victims, especially when you
hear about the outlandish scams they've fallen for.
We've all heard about how some poor soul was taken for a ride by an outlandish con and
thought "how could anyone ever fall for that?!"
From the silver-tongued religious cult leaders who can convince their followers to part with
fortunes, to the ambitious street urchins executing a flawless Three-Card Monte, the art of the
scam is as diverse as it is cunning. And then there are those budding con artists, forever on
the lookout for an unsuspecting investor to swindle with their too-good-to-be-true get-rich-
quick-schemes.
But hold on, aren't we smarter these days? In our era of information overload, shouldn't it be
harder to pull the wool over our eyes? Unfortunately, not. If anything, it makes it easier!
We're just as vulnerable to scams today as our ancestors were centuries ago. The allure of a
quick win or a life-changing opportunity blinds even the savviest among us. [1]
But don't lose hope. There's good news! The psychology behind these scams is timeless. The
charismatic grifter, the vulnerable mark, and the promise of turning dreams into reality -
these elements remain unchanged. What evolves are the disguises these tricks wear to stay
one step ahead. So, they might have a facelift, but inside these cons are literally the oldest
trick in the book!
In fact, some scams are so brilliantly simple, they've barely changed at all. Why fix what ain't
broken, right?

don't think I've ever seen a lawyer sponsor on youtube before. I wonder if they have a bunch of extra rules on what you can say and on the video production given how lawyers have fairly strict rules on advertising.

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I recently came to learn that facial salons are pretty much scams, and one I feel really salty about is Hermetise. It is so damn expensive, and I gave in because of all the emotional manipulation.
Also, I know of a sales organisation that supposedly raises donations for charities in Australia but spends an incredible amount of money on the staff, like all expenses travel and accommodation to solicit donors in new locations. Well, maybe that's just MLM and salespeople in general but this one really irks me because people believe they are really donating for a good cause. I really wonder how much goes to the charities.
Although the face has much thinner skin compared to other parts of the body, there exists no good reason for 99% of skin care products to cater to the face specifically.
For example did you know that those dark bags under your eyes are actually just bruising from rubbing? Since the skin near the orbital bone is so thin that small amount of bruising is easily visible. The solution to eyebags is to simply stop touching your face so much and let the bruising heal. (For instance if your eyes ache use some eye drops to soothe it, instead of rubbing.)
But what do these companies do? They sell you a pipe dream that their products will wash it all away for you (ironically rubbing your face with these creams and what not will actually make the problem worse.) At most if the product is actually real and not snake oil it only covers up the bruising. But really you want to stop rubbing your eyes and let the bruising heal over a few weeks.
Now sometimes the face can be sensitive and they formulate things specifically for that, but the skin on your face is similar to any other skin on your body. Just that it's more sensitive and thinner.
I'm pretty sure most people would pick their face as where they'd like to have the best skin on their body, plus faces receive the most sun through a person's lifetime. @@Neoprenesiren
Pretty much summed up the charity scam in one paragraph...The "hint", should have been Sally Strouthers begging for starving kids, while she was pushing 250lbs...P.S. The "Red Cross", is a SCAM!!! Only %5 of donations actually go towards helping. The rest is spent on CEO's, Lobbyists, Trips, and buildings/vans to get free blood; Which, they sell to hospitals for $1000 per pint!!!
The Roaring Twenties actually began in 1921, several months after newly elected President Warren G. Harding was inaugurated that spring. In 1920, when Charles Ponzi's scam was active, America was suffering a major economic depression caused mainly by Progressive President Woodrow Wilson's new taxes and business regulations left over from World War I, not to mention the lawlessness that ensued after Wilson suffered a major stroke. It was a very unpredictable time, and business/financial scams thrive in unpredictable and heavily regulated markets, because nobody has a clue what the rules are nor any idea of when they might be breaking laws. Enter the investment scammer claiming that he knows how to get clients the profits without the legal risks...
good addition!
You said Bitcoin was a scam but went on to only describe pump and dump schemes for altcoins seems off. It would’ve made more sense to just say cryptocurrency more generally
thanks. Thought that too
I'd like to think that I've never been pickpocketed because getting things out of my pockets is purposely inconvenient. It'd be nice if that holds true.

Bitcoin is not the same as crypto and shouldn't be lumped together. Bitcoin is just a protocol. It's like saying USD is a scam because Forex scams exist. USD is a scam, but not for that reason.
USD has value because the US has economic output. Idk how much output the country of Bit does though
@@NealBurkard-ut1oo I don't know the GDP of Gold either, but it has had value as money for millenia.
Nothing beats the scam of a relative promising to pay you back after loaning them money 😂
Or one of those close friends😂
Reminds me of that one character from Popeye. “I will pay you tomorrow for a burger today.”
Or, the oldest scam known to man; Women!!! Well known throughout history of promising fidelity to one man for $ gain, while offering the same thing to other men...
I'd say that the art scam is the biggest. Steal a painting, make copies, sell the copies as originals, and the buyers will not want to report it because nobody wants to admit that they have been scammed. I had a friend who was an art history PHD and the copes would always come to her to find out if a painting was forged or not.
To complicated. Look at "modern art".
Just smear your feces on a canvas and say it costs 130 Million Dollar. People who are into "modern art" buy anything as long as you are charismatic.
@@CordeliaWagner1999most people aren't into it. It's just a money laundering scheme. The meta narrative of the modern art has to compensate for it and it usually doesn't.
Copes or cops?
@@CordeliaWagner1999
You mean too? No man, that's you. You're the one obsessed with feces. 😆 Modern art is quite varied. Nobody said you have to buy something you don't like. I'm not a fan of everything that flies although I've got an open mind and don't generalise too much. If you want classical art, buy it. Or buy a reproduction. People buy "modern art" as an investment, not because they are into it.....unless it's actually interesting. It's not a scam either. Nice try though.
The fine art trade is a scam in itself. A Ponzi scheme and tax evasion.
I feel like one really good way to detect a scam is to tell another person about it. All the charisma, and emotional manipulation is left out. The only thing they hear is the stripped down version, if your friend/family gives you a weird look at say it sounds sketchy it's best to avoid it. It's the same phenomena that lets friends accurately gauge that person you're dating is a douchebag well before you ever find out.
You underestimate how long lasting a good impression can be; as well as confirmation bias. Even when flaws and discrepancies are pointed out, it's as, if not more, likely that they'd argue they missed something in their retelling.
You misused a comma.
People will always think that they know better. You relatives are just too afraid to take that amasing opportunity, but you know better and are braver and will show them. That's how many people lost a lot of money.
I am not so sure about that. If anything, we are so aware of scams nowadays that the only thing we don't suspect is a scam is an actual scam.
Oddly enough, there may be scammers who actually tell you exactly how to make a fortune, and the real scam is pulled by nurturing a dependence upon the scammer who is supposedly the expert. And the word EXPERT does seem to be the keyword here.
I'v manage to avoid most scams by simply listening to the scammer, they almost always say things like "how easy, quick, and how little money" I need to get started. And I do some research on the person and or company. And then the scams that want me to pay for money I never purchased a lottery ticket for. However I did get scammed by trying to buy a car off Facebook, so be very careful on there.

The fact that the big scams seldom ever carry penalties which match the damage done, especially in the modern day, is a big part of the reason why they keep happening and constantly become more prevalent. Basic street-level pickpockets often face more jail time than multimillion dollar con artists. Until that changes, we cannot say we live in a just and reasonable society.
Too true. The rich have the resources to dodge, delay, and minimize punishment such that any "punishment" that they do accept become minor costs of doing business.
Let's be honest, we are all being scammed by the government in so many ways, and as long as that's tolerated so will be the "smaller" scams
yet all you hear about on the news is homeless people shoplifting..... even though it hasn't risen faster than the trend for the past like 10 years.... i wonder why that is
Omg that’s so true! I know/knew one and she was a right slippery snake - she’d wear a mask pretend friends with lots of people pretend to be successful and dripping in gold and expensive shoes & was very CON vincing! Her scams were Property companies getting people to pay large deposits over to get then stealing their money then elaborated her scams and started to pretended to be a lawyer set up a fake legal company and fake investments! Oddly the police statements on her stated they found no evidence of her frauds so I went out of my way to post everything I’d found on the internet and old newspapers and court cases - there were hundred of peole she scammed! It was time she was exposed publicly I felt and the useless cops! 😎
They’re easy tear get for the police and there often video footage in stores now! Complex frauds and criminals take some preorder investigating skills and I am witness to the fact they just don’t have those and can’t be bothered investigating much anymore!
The services we pay for are no longer up to the job - whether they’re useless or corrupt is still to be seen I guess! 🤷♀️
You forgot the federal reserve.. It's not federal and there are no reserves
Lol 😂 😉😎
Truth!!! In that sense, is it any wonder others attempt the same scam??? "Simple; Create a fake currency, overstate it value, promise huge returns, spend all the fake $ on real things, then dump it..."
To be fair, I think legit forgery paintings (like ones you'd see in _White Collar_ ) are just as valuable as the original. Because if you can create a fake, down to finding an obscure pigment that doesn't contain Strontium-90 or some shit to really mask it, then that's more impressive in my opinion 🤷♂️
You are wrong 😂
@PepeCoinMania why is he wrong? Art is subjective. If someone has the skill to replicate a master work down to the level of understanding the paints someone from that time period would have used, and it actually looks exactly the same, then the only difference is the value you assign to someone's name. Not the art itself
Pretty ignorant comment 😅
@@saratimbrevalue also influenced by its scarcity. So the value of the original artwork is different with another artwork which publicly known from its 10 available replica.
Well the value of the painting is in history of that piece. That why a paint of circle ,it worth so much money.
It stupid but go figure.
"I am not a conman. I am a con artist."
I honestly don't think pick pocketing counts as a scam
It’s just a crime 😂
Pickpocketing is more theft than fraud.
And he forgot the biggest : politics
Organized crime
Not in the classic sense; No...More so in the way that modern ones do it...Had the "bump", tried on me a few times...Lucky for me, I am broke...
Fun fact about the oracle of Delphi. Before the battle of Cannae, the Romans approached the oracle asking if they will be victorious. The oracle told that if they made an offering of burying 3 people alive, the gods would support them on the battle. They did that and lost.
Can't ask for a refund if your dead, tell the others they pissed the gods off somewhere else
The Oracle prophecies are vague. They buried the wrong three men. Interpretation is important.
The Oracle couldn't predict the genius of Hannibal.
There’s something particularly malicious in thinking “that person is so stupid, I should trick them out of their money.”
Maybe, it’s the modicum of empathy within me, or perhaps I am one of the stupid ones, but it just seems wrong to take advantage of people for the sole purpose of being able to.
It's wrong taking advantage in general. Telling victims they should have known better is malicious imo. The thief should know better
😂😂😂Was that Ea Nasir on the thumb! Lol. Yall not gonna let that guy be? What's the statute of limitations on fraud. I mean it's just been 3700+ years since.
Such is the price of selling subpar quality copper ingots, the eternal scorn of the victims.
Their was an Indian con man called Natwarlal who is famous for selling everything from Taj Mahal to Indian presidential house and even the parliament
Fun fact Gregor MacGregor is a great great grand uncle of Connor McGregor. The family had to change the name.
Connor didn't have to "con", anyone...Just stand there, getting hit for his short rise to very wealthy...Even Dana White claimed he was the most motivated fighter in UFC history!!! As long as he was getting paid well, he would fight anyone!!! Logan Paul, on the other hand...

Biggest Real estate scam: broker fees paid by the prospective tenant, who will be gaining an ongoing expense (besides all the other moving costs) rather than the owner, the person who will actually be gaining income. Imagine being able to get FB ads to market us for free and charge our customers the equal amount of any product of ours they buy
The day I can build up enough confidence to sell a landmark 😂😂 those men are elite
The criminal / scammer is always 100% responsible for the crime regardless how difficult or easy the victim makes it. If person A keeps their door always wide open and person B keeps it always locked with an alarm system and both get robbed by different robbers both of the robbers are equally quilty and deserve equal punishment. The only acceptable difference between A and B here might be how willing their insurances are to pay for damages.
Selling the Eiffel Tower, twice, sounded a HECK of a lot like Crypto 🤔 selling something not tangible at a price that is not actually valued to a customer who is expecting it later
Banks...best Ponzi scheme ever.
Not really? A Ponzi scheme claims the money is there, the fractional reserve is no secret
wow what a deep and original take. are you 14?
I keep making the mistake of thinking these frauds were smart. Take for example, thinking that SBF was funded by selling portions of his equity, which was worth more than he embezzled. He could have done all that and still been a billionaire and well paid CEO, it doesn't make sense to go the illegal route.
Always be critical when they sell directly to retail investors
It is complicated, they have the look, same reason you never doubt the cops. A fraudster just has to have the look and we can't see the fraud. Put all resources into who you suspect while ignoring everything else, always blindly trust the professionals, never doubt the experts, don't keep people honest have blind trust.
@@Tethloach1always doubt the police and question them more then any other scam artist. I've been to jail twice for someone else. They're more about making money then helping anyone, I promise.

11:26 Jim “Backer?” You may need to pay more attention to the VO script and research. Jim BAKKER pronounced “baker.”
I think the art scam is the most interesting one. The fact that people believe a certain item has value over another, even though the two items look identical and are made from basically the same materials means the value is completely subjective. The replica is just as beautiful, and should last just as long, so why is the original more valuable?
You dare criticise Ea-Nasir
violence is inherent in the concept of land ownership
*"aggressive sales practices"* perfectly legal btw remain the most powerful though with not even a close second. First off you're getting something "tangible"(a massive and beautiful real estate development typically) 2nd "it only costs money"(like getting a College education another one of the Greatest Scams ever.) People are simply told to part with their money...theft, taxation, anarchy, obliviousness, incompetence, being a bon vivant as a lifestyle choice for the masses, the importance of using credit in every matter, having a Bank, internal combustion Motors...on and on and on it all goes...all it costs is billions trillions bazillions bazillion trillions...with eventually the crisis be about arguing over who gets the last physical one US cash dollar. The problem can be near instantly resolved if people decide in the USA to suddenly not consume or what is known as a "boycott"...that includes paying anyone for *SERVICES RENDERED* as well. See how good they are at Playing Amish for Real at that point...a fine sight indeed..
Why the Bitcoin hate? No real explanation on how it's a ponzi? There is no ponzi im Bitcoin, no ultimate kingpin.
There's no anything in bitcoin, especially value
wild that you'd even suggest the scammed are guilty.
The last scam should have been titled Cryptocurrencies.
Remember folks. If you been scammed. It’s not as bad as some theses other people who lost millions.
The part I don't understand is why pickpocketing counts as a "con". It's theft, common street crime, doesn't require outsmarting the victim or even allowing them some defence. Often times it's helped by physical threat, in others the victims won't even notice their things are missing until the thief is long gone. A con involves engaging with victims somehow, and manipulating them into giving away valuables.

It happens with apple stocks, tesla stock, pennies stocks, high speculative stock, etc. I do agree BTC is a scam and worth nothing (for now) and there a higher % of chance to fet burn with btc than let's say coca cola stock. But this risk is always here...greed and fear runs the stock market, not math and logic.

I got conned by my wife because she tricked m her in to thinking she was a decent person when we dated
I got scammed for the first time last year. I never normally would have fallen for it, but it was the right messaging at the right time, in the right format. I wasn't ready for a mail-in scam, posing as insurance, after being a first-time car buyer. I was uneducated and scared, as I'd just had a bad car accident and was in more debt than I ever had been over a bad car purchase. Thankfully I recovered quickly and was able to get all my money back, but it was a reminder of how easy it is to be prayed upon.
How people continue to hand cash over to Logan Paul truly baffles me.

BTC is not the scam, it’s a medium. Of course, it’s more in other cryptos vs BTC when it comes to pump and dump.

Lumping legit psychics (which is most of them) with fake ones is the only complaint I have on this video. Otherwise, great job.
There are no legit psychics. Humans cannot read minds, see the dead or predict the future.
