11:00 No Evan, no sunsetting. Crafting wasn't implemented right. Most games with crafting use crafting as a means to an end. Craft a good weapon or armor piece to be able to tackle endgame content. I think all overland weapon and armor should be craftable, but raid and dungeon gear shouldn't be. That will solve a lot of issues with crafting at the moment. Crafting should be a stepping stone, not the stone. When metas change, some crafting gear can be good, but Ultimately only raid, dungeon, and Gm gear should be top tier.

Most people have positive things to say about those seasons except plunder for obvious reasons. One of my biggest enjoyment out of seasons is the storytelling they can provide along with the innovation such as a mini destination, a pirate invasion activity plunder's activity may not be the funnest, but it provided a unique idea that was genuinely good. Crafting was good at first because leveling didn't take very long like it does now you don't have the materials anyways it took forever to get a red border from the seasonal activities. I'm still missing a bunch of patterns and I farmed day and night all summer during haunted but I'm okay with that because I also got some god rolls that aren't crafted along the way. And building into build crafting more than just weapons has been something that I have seen to be more of a positive thing. Considering players enjoying that more than the previous system. I don't see anyone complaining about using devour on Titan and Hunter because it's a good change whether you complain about sub class uniqueness or not. I love your content man. But I seriously wish you wouldn't act like the wq seasons were not received well by the community because they were and still are talked about today. And I want to make it clear that I love this video. You hit the mark pretty much pretty well in a lot of areas, but there were a few areas where I can't say most people agree were actually bad stuff. I'm definitely not complaining though because you definitely hit the mark with the main point which is that business bungie Is that number one cause of strife this year.

Here’s my take on veil containment:
I think they were trying to cut out the middle man of the lore by not making you wait until the end of a mission like you normally do, which gets tedious by the twelfth run. So they said “hey lets just make it like you skip to the end”
Only they failed to realize they should just be delivering the lore while we casually shoot something low difficulty maybe. Which is better than both.

Imagine if we still had the curse of osiris dlc but they added a hard mode campaign Other ideas I thought of include
      1. For the patrol area they could have added side quests on the infinite forest on how it works and then when you complete enough missions you unlock a damage test area/ simulation area think a small mercury map to play with friends a small pvp map
      2. Loot
the final boss panoptes drops armor based on him and has a chance to drop an exotic solar grenade launcher that functions similar to anarchy it holds your enemy in place think that vex containment/barrier that you have to break but scorchs you then does an aoe explosion if enough stacks build up around the target.
      - Craftable loot can be the original guns from the curse of osiris dlc that you have to unlock
-Other guns can be the guns from the sundial activity that are not craftable but have unique perk combinations that the craftable guns don't have.
Patrol area can have those vex public events from the moon that came from season of undying and add the few guns machine gun and auto rifle as rotational weapons that weren't brought back.
      3. If you do certain mercury challenges it unlocks osiris costume as an ornament set.
Thats how I would bring curse of osiris from the dcv as a free and improved dlc for players

Without question, it's biggest crime was dialogue. Bad dialogue can honesty and surprisingly nuke almost any entertainment media...
The obvious is Nimbus, but when I rewrote this story I immediately noticed they were not the sole issue.
Osiris for example, was actually the worst offender. In Seraph, when he came back, the writers brilliantly made a bold move that not all writers can pull off. They made Osiris a likeable asshole. You see, in Seraph, Osiris immediately made it known to us that he is NOT Savathûn when we immediately realized how arrogant he REALLY is lol. But the beautiful thing about that though, was that he was arrogant but also had a heart. You could tell especially when compared to Clovis. What was amazing about Seraph was the dichotomy between Clovis and Osiris. Both are arrogant and both have sky high egos, but one was cold inside and the other had a heart. That's what made Osiris work so well in that Season.
Now Lightfall... yikes. The writers this time chose to make Osiris not only arrogant like he already was, but they also decided to make him grumpy and jaded. Huge mistake. There is a time and place for jaded character types, but Osiris was NOT the time NOR the place.
You can tell they were inexperienced because they made Osiris the grumpy old asshole, and they turned Nimbus into the tone deaf lucky go happy zoomer kid who runs all over the old man's lawn just to laugh at him getting angry.
This murdered the story in its tracks.
It is fine to have jaded characters, and it is also fine to have comedy relief annoying side characters. But these two writing styles are VERY tricky to pull off, and it needs to be done very carefully and respectfully.
Jessica Jones for example is the best jaded character I've ever seen, and she serves that story amazingly. At the same time, the dog from Puss in Boots 2 is the BEST annoying sidekick archetype I've ever seen as well. He was executed perfectly.
    Nimbus and Osiris were not.
It was an unfortunate mistake, that unfortunately wrecked a huge portion of this expansion.
This isn't even exhaustive either. Rohan was easily the most play it safe character I have ever seen in a work of fiction, and Zavala and Ikoras words at the end were abysmal to say the least.
On a positive note though, Calus, Caiatl, and the Witness were executed well imo. They could have been done much better sure, but they were done decently well. It was definitely Nimbus, Osiris, and Rohan who were the most fumbled in the writing of the story, and it's unfortuate to see so close to the end.

Lightfall was def supposed to be the prelude to the final shape, giving up two new locations (similar to what forsaken did), where a lot of the lore we get in these seasons were either A. Made in haste due to the decision to make Lightfall its own expansion, or B. were supposed to be brisk and simplified events.

    • @oxsila
      @oxsila 5 місяців тому +2

Content creators always seem to say it's good because grinding for a god roll gives them content. When the god roll weapon finally drops, it's obviously hype for the stream and usually ends up in someone gifting like 100 subs. It's just artificial content is all it is. Ever since crafting came along I've done every new raid at least 30 times each. Before that I never felt motivated to raid coz of the trash rng. Now you can guarantee yourself 2 red borders a week and it's great. Plus exotic droprate triumphs give me even more motivation to raid knowing it won't be unreasonable rng. The issue imo is purely enhanced perks. If they didn't exist, people wouldn't feel as compelled to ignore raid rng loot.

hard disagree on crafting ruining loot incentive. Maybe it does for YTers who play 30 hours a week, but for the rest of us its doing major lifting in keeping the game engaging and making the grind manageable while reducing FOMO.

    • @henkaan7741
      @henkaan7741 5 місяців тому

i don't really get how it reduces fomo. The main way of earning seasonal weapons still disappears at the end of the year, so good luck getting the crafting pattern for some of the older weapons like Austringer or Calus mini-tool nowadays. Getting all the crafting patterns each season is basically one of the main sources of FOMO for me.

      @@henkaan7741
Bad and ignorant take. It does reduce Fomo. The chances of you having a God roll by getting 5 patterns will be quicker than focus weapon engram decrypting for an entire season.
It helps with vault space too, so you can have a peace of mind knowing you can get the weapon back anytime instead of being forced to horde it not knowing if it'll be buffed and be meta or not...so there's another Fomo reduction.

    • @funtourhawk

    • @henkaan7741
      @henkaan7741 5 місяців тому

@@Bestow3000 Yes sure, it reduces the randomness, but i still can't see how it reduces the Fomo. Having a crafted weapon basically means that you have every possible version of that weapon, which means that you're missing out on something pretty huge if you don't have it, right?
The main problem is that it's borderline impossible to get weapons' patterns after their respective focusing vendor or activity has been vaulted. This is the reason why i still don't have have a crafted Beloved, i still need 3 more patterns and how the fuck am i gonna get those nowadays? This problem could *mostly* be fixed if Bungie just allowed us to earn an infinite amount of deepsight harmonizers through gameplay, but the won't do that... because it's bungie.
"you can have a peace of mind knowing you can get the weapon back anytime instead of being forced to horde it not knowing if it'll be buffed and be meta or not"
Sure i guess that's kinda true, but it also enforces the mentality of "get the patterns now, or you'll really regret it later" which I would definitely count as Fomo. *Having* a crafted weapon significanly reduces Fomo, but *getting* a crafted weapon is a major source of Fomo.
(To clarify: i'm mostly focusing on seasonal weapons here. I don't really have problem with crafted raid or neomuna weapons)

Crafting, as well as weapon focusing, is what SAVED loot, not killed the loot interest. it made the game RESPECT your time. pure RNG aspect is not player friendly. at all. it won't ever be, and it should not be a thing. there should always be a non RNG way to get a weapon. and the game would honestly be better if more weapons were added to the crafting system. we still need different archetype and subclass element to different gun to be added to it.
i chased a stupid lingering dread roll for the WHOLE week it was available last time , as Duality was the featured dungeon. it sucked. it was harrowing. it was painful and not enjoyable in the slightest. because the whole week, literally brought nothing. it was, in all way that you can look at it, a waste of time. nothing was gained. no matter the roll, it wasn't the one i wanted, and in the end, i gained nothing.
i farm one week, and i still don't get a stupid legendary weapon roll? yeah no. RNG sucks. it's a shit replacement for correct progression. crafting is what saved my interest in grinding weapon, and i really don't think people should be excited over trying to get it reduced, or gone. it made Destiny better. period.
same for sunsetting. i grinded for my stuff, you sure as hell not going to artificially make it not good cause "yeah, we don't want you using it." .

I don't see anybody talking about nimbus, so I will. It's a shame for how much Bungie backed this character initially. But the conversation has since been marred with identity politics and outside that discussion is a character that just didn't connect with the fan base in the slightest. Dialog so bad it wouldn't belong in a marvel movie. So it was hard to really care about the character.
Also doesn't help that everything within light fall is segregated to the DLC. Meaning that things like bringing a donning cookie to these new lightfall characters, just doesn't happen. It just, doesn't work. It's a lose-lose, especially when you consider all the established characters who didn't get screen time in trade for this.

The problem with the sunsetting concept is that gun feel is such a huge factor. Especially for pvp.
An individual gun can function identically as another, but they can feel entirely different.
That's really the main reason it wouldn't have worked in the past, too. That's what makes it so different from when other MMOs would do similar things.
edit: Also. I don't think making red borders rarer or less items craftable is the solution. But the best case scenario basically requires reworking the whole system. like, honestly, a better crafting system from scratch would be to make it so that you can't craft new guns from scratch, but can take one perk off of an existing copy of a gun and put it on another. That way its just a matter of getting the perks you want to drop and it functions way better as bad luck protection. Heck, the adept weapon style perk enhancement would be perfect for this system too, especially since then you could get enhanced perks on every single gun regardless of whether or not it was crafted prior. And this would make it easy and reasonable to put on EVERY weapon in the entire game, because then it'd be the 'bad luck protection' option for your godrolls to make the 3/5 or 4/5 rolls capable of being turned into a 5/5, and making the perfect godroll drops and the godroll chase still remain like it used to.

Yeah the sunset choice wasn't awful because it not only took away weapons and ruined the overall gameplay of the game but it pushed this identity crisisbeat bungie was now having with destiny. Sunset could have worked if it was as they described it - old weapons lose power and refarm to re-get. So you go back to last wish each year to keep the activity fresh.

Death in Destiny 2 is pointless now if they decide to just bring back dead characters. It's like if they killed off Chelsea in Akame Ga Kill, then she was somehow revived a few episodes later. Not only would it disrupt the world, it'd also ruin the impact of characters dying (which is what made the manga great, anyone could die at any given point).

I take breaks from the game and having a sure fire way to get a dedicated great gun for endgame is huge. I also have PLENTY of things to chase. It may just be the people who already have EVERYTHING that have an issue with loot. At that point is it on bungie to provide even more? Or is it time to step away / change expectations for the ones who have every conceivable god roll? I see a lot of negative feedback around this topic but is the majority of the player base really upset with the amount of god rolls / red borders? I play pretty frequently and the amount of stuff to chase is kind of staggering sometimes.

The Witness' terraformed pyramid shouldve been the location. a few reasons for this; one, its alot prettier and more vissually stunning. two, it makes more sense thematically, us landing there to fight to get to the witness. three, it makes more sense with strand, its the flagship of the black fleet, us finding a new darkness subclass there makes sense, not to mention all the platforming and broken terrain lends itself to strand.
Second note, Calus shouldve been the raidboss, after narrowly missing the witness after they find the veil, Calus is the next immediate threat. it would be a culmination of his story.

An ascendant players idea on making state of pvp possibly better:
    1) implement a lock on trials and comp until a 50 game completion has been met.(gate keeping some cheaters/exploiters)
    2) remove sbmm, instead only allow players who haven’t finished 50 games of crucible to play one another, after they should be put in connection based lobbies where everyone else is located. This would allow new players to get used to gameplay, some strategy, and having enough weapons before being thrown into the mix.
3)sbmm should only be allowed in trials, based on the fact that it is supposed to be or feel like end game pvp.
4)comp should be ladder based match making only, not dynamic. As in: you can only match your level or one above or one below. Allowing less lobby balanced feeling lobbies where one player has to try to hard carry players far out of their skill gap.
An adept 1 can only match plat 1 and adept 1-2, but an ascendant 1 can only match ascendant 1 and 2 since ascendant 1 has no higher rank. Connection should take priority but at the same time NEVER break the -1, current, and +1 rank based ladder matchmaking system.
    4) connection based qp, connection based qp, connection based qp period
    5) removal of ae
    6) fix melee registeration and rubberbanding… may not be as bad with connection based though. Make it hit scan within certain range with a sizeable hit cone and voila.
Just thoughts from someone who started a .5 3 years ago and now clears a 1.7 with a 2.4+ kda. I’m not the best but I’m certainly decent, I learn from getting steam rolled. Failure is often one of the best ways to learn to do things better or correct the next time, a lesson that seems to be getting pushed aside lately.

They keep making copies of similar weapons rather than innovating the concept that a firearm can be anything by the way it looks sounds and shoots. People would find a reason to play more if they added cooler or unique weapons and perks. Instead of oh it can get 10 more range than this gun. I'm not saying put Borderlands into d2 or a hamburger gun that shoots shit. Just something worth playing for and on another note make better new perks and somewhat better stats for old guns don't just give us a sunsetted version that hasn't changed for 5 years and shit we'll never use. At the same time, we wouldn't care if an old hand cannon had the same stats if it looks just as cool everybody has a preference. I would take a parcel of stardust over any meta weapon simply because it's a classic.

Dungeon key is a highlight for evil monetization. What makes it worse is that it has became the only source to get artifice armor which further lays a point that destiny 2 is a paid to win game.
Although I'm against the sunsetting, craftable is a problem indeed, not just the way you explained. As a free player, the only possible things you could craft was engima, ammit, suros pulse (don't clearly remember it's name), hakke's SG and a stasis rocket launcher. There other craftable (behind season/dlc) that outperforms these free to get weapon. The only thing I appreciate bungie doing is allowing to craft past season weapon, the only downside being for a free player, it takes 2 season to obtain its pattern. Although there are free raid content where you get god tier craftable weapon (at least for a free player), it is not accessible unless you are a good player with good build that the hotheaded LFG members can play with. Then again the on demand exotic (both weapon and armor) belongs to a DLC that the player isn't ready to buy yet.
Also it is an observed trend that certain exotic and legendary weapons, subclass behind a paybar, and exotic armor gets "bugged" and overpowered becoming meta in game which frustrates people who doesn't own the DLC/Season at the time. By the time you purchase those it gets nerfed. As a player who only purchases content during black Friday or any other sales, this is relatable incident(s). Not that I'm blaming or claiming that devs are deliberately doing this.
The worst of the worst by far is the seasonal pricing. I don't mind season cost going up to 1200 silvers but the fact that bungie in game store page doesn't give an option for 1200 but rather 1100 and 1700 silvers (which is either less or more than required) is absolutely infuriating. If they give an 1100 + 150 (or whatever amount of silver they're generous to give) existed that basically covers a season cost (not in an excessive manner), I would be fine by it...

Peak destiny story telling was when we had cryptic Information about the darkness. It was mysterious. Like Sauron in the lord of the rings. Not having a face made the villain far more imposing. Giving the witness a face gave me huge Pixar vibes and was a big let down.

I don’t know why people want to spend hours grinding for a weapon to get sunset
I just want to get the weapon and used it in the content I want not spending hours trying to get a decent roll

These streamers seem to forget that not everyone plays Destiny 12 hrs a day.
For us folk with real jobs and lives, crafting is a god send. It’s literally impossible for us to do end game content AND grind activities for god rolls with maybe 6 hours in the week. 10 if you’re lucky.

I think loot lost its incentive on e Bungie started doing the literal bare minimum to make new weapons. Plus, end game content is not hard enough to warrant going after that 1% better roll. They need much much harder content while giving loot that reflects that difficulty. End game, just doesn’t really feel like end game. It’s just build crafting.

i think for a long time we wanted to craft weapons and now that some or alot of weapons can be crafted we just do see a point to grind unless we get that red boarder. in a way we are suffering from success. we just want to make the weapon we wan crafted so we can get the god roll so theres nothing to be excited about when we do have it theres no bragging rights when u do get the god roll anymore since u can just craft it if its craftable

Sunsetting itself was never the problem back in BL. The issue was the vast majority of the game was sunset with little to no weapons to replace such weapons. If sunsetting is to occur, there needs to ample new loot to go and chase.

. . . . .if they start sunsetting again, im out, brother. They were talking about sunsetting weapons, armour, and supers. 🤷‍♂️ thats the way they wanna go hey its their game doesnt mean i have to continue my ten years of playing it. And if theyve shown us anything if we give them an inch they'll take the damn continent.

I'll say the crafting system was a positive and still is one for people who don't have the time or simply just don't want to play this game religiously. For streamers and people who this is their one and only game farming god rolls is fun and keeps them coming back. For people like myself who play other games and work a 9-5 it's a pain in the ass that I have to spend 10+ hours playing the name stupid nightfall to get some stupid gun I really don't care about just so I can finally hit up a lfg to do a raid. Only for it to be then nerfed into the ground the following season. God grinding wasn't terrible when it was just 1 dlc per year no seasonal mods. With the seasonal mods and the constant rotation of weapons it makes that grind stupid and boring. I'd much rather sign in once a week get my chosen red border and be ready to raid in roughly 3 weeks with only 3ish hours of grind.

I had hoped that lightfall would be like beyond light where the expansion is kinda mid but the seasons were insanly good but no. We got a mid expansion followed by a D tier season followed by an F tier season with deep. But Witch and so far Wish have been very good. Just sucks that Deep and Defiance were so bad.
As for seasonal activity monetization, I don't mind it as long as they are giving me stuff I want to buy but they abandoned doing weapon ornaments for things like the dawning which is what I always paid money for. Some times I'll buy the armor ornaments but it's the weapon ornaments I always bought since I see them on screen often. But nope they'd rather make ghosts, ships, sparrows, and ghost projections... Like anyone is paying cash for ghost projections.
As for crafting, they really should stop making raid weapons craftable right away. Leave them as normal weapons until the raid gets a rework 2 years later. Then the adept weapons have value.
