  • This video is a bit different than the others on the channel but I wanted to have an open conversation about how anime has helped my mental health over the past few years since it's a topic that is very close to my heart. I'm not usually one to celebrate the different months, but given that June is Men's Mental Health Month I felt like this was the perfect time to drop this video.

You taught me something just with the title alone. I'm very pro mental health and it can sometimes be combersom for my loved ones. I don't want to come of judgy or controlling or paranoid. I only want the best life for me and the people in my life and I believe emotional intelligence plays a huge part in that so I tend to often give advice or nuggets of wisdom to my loved ones unprovoked just because they triggered something in my brain that brings out the mental facts which yeah is logically helpful but sometimes people don't want that so I can get frustrated and it's no longer a discussion but more of an argument when both parties mean well but the timing is off. With all of that being said, using anime as a coping skill is quite logical but something I would've never recommend compared to YT videos on mental health and coping skills. This taught me that there's not just one way of learning and getting thorough life even if that way is what helped me. I'm happy you were able to get to the point in life you're at now and I hope that climb becomes easier as you go on.

Same bro! Though cyber bullying was what I dealt with like now on Twitter, lol. Also, I wasn’t with a good friend at the time, but we both became better & thrived with anime. Also, condolences. Having senior year during covid sounds horrible. I feel bad for everyone that year, especially young kids that didn’t get the social interactions & education that they needed.

If you haven't watched any films by Hayao Miyazaki I'd really recommend them. I can relate to a lot of your troubles and they often helped my mood when I thought that "all is lost".
A film he co-wrote and directed called "Kiki's Delivery Service" is a great film for anyone who feels alienated by unfamiliar surroundings and different people. It has always amazed me how its protagonist is also the antagonist because most of her difficulties arise due to misunderstandings and false conclusions. I love the climax.
Anyway, I've always respected Miyazaki's opinions about storytelling and "the state of anime", and so many of his films are universal classics. He also wrote and drew a fantastic manga, "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", which he made into a motion picture.
