War on Drugs is likely one of the absolute best indie rock bands to emerge from the American musical landscape in the past decade... They represent what is best about Rock, innovation, intelligence, political savvy, and strong musicianship... The courage to write from the heart and translate it all into beautiful music is abundant here... Europeans sometimes misjudge America with all of the Pop/media hype...its assumed that entertainers such as Taylor Swift are the leaders, when if fact, their following accounts for fractional segments of the total market. America is a vast and large country both geographically and domestically, it is one of the most diverse nations on earth. To assume that there is no place for a band as gifted as War on Drugs is a sad miscalculation... By any standard these guys shine, and its golden!!
right on! ditto! ditto! ditto! You said it all, love this band! And I'm not a Taylor Swift fan either. And I'm tired of ppl saying he's trying to sound like Dylan. He is what he is. As Jerry Seinfeld once said comically what do ppl mean when they say "it is what it is!" It is what it isn't?! Love this song and was great in concert at Radio City Music Hall!
I agree except for the giving you us americans more credit. Very very few people are in agreement with. I am a music snob tho, if you play Taylor Swift in front of me I'll judge you forever.
Frank Gerber Wow... Depressing and so untrue. The driving drum style that could easily be thought of almost like a dance beat keeps being recycled for ages now.... at least since Jesus Mary Chain and many others. It was an in style about 10 or less years ago. Max Girouard it is really cool to see you finding interest in new generations music, as I turned 35 I wonder when it is not my music anymore and glad that is does not have to happen.
I just turned 65 in June 2015, The "War on Drugs" reminds me of the past, the present, and possibly the future of Rock n' Roll...There are so many influences at play here its astonishing...to try and name them all would be daunting... Lets suffice to say we all recognize something akin to greatness in this group's sound and lyrical composites ...Let her rip...!!! Peace & Cheers...forever !!
Dylan, Neil Young, Dire Straits, The Waterboys, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel.......... hope this helped, my father liked them all! edit: with a touch of shoegaze
Was reading the back and forth in the comments and was like 10 years ago! Best Kept Secret indeed. I was watching Black Francis with my new gf and my old gf on the other arm. What a night and what a show! Love The War on Drugs and hoping to catch a show by them soon....10 years...whew! Where does all the time go?!
Well than with all due respect this isn't our dads music. It may be influenced by some older music but it is new music by a young dude. These new guys deserve some props for what they are creating. I hope young cats that want to rock out don't get intimidated by this stigma and get out there and make some new good music.

This band needs to be listened to and enjoyed for just the sound of life that you want to live everyday. It doesn't bang you in the head but it opens up your mind - to thinking about the stories being told. His voice is amazing and soothing at the same time! Love it lots!
One of a very few shows (and I've been to hundreds over the years) that literally brought me to tears of joy. Just transcendent live. When music does that, you know you're alive.
I always was a fan of Bob Dylan so when I heard the War On Drugs, I immediately fell in love with this band not because he sounds like Dylan but because they have their own style of music. They are real singers not fake like the ones we hear now and gone the next day and make millions of $$$ with no talent what so ever. Awesome band!
Where have I been?! This band has been playing for 10 years and a friend just now told me to check them out. I am absolutely stunned. The Best Kept Secret Festival 2014 performance is like a cross between Dire Straits, Bob Dylan & U2 .... except these guys ARE ORIGINAL. Can't wait to see them jam live on the East Coast when they return from overseas.
This song takes Me to bliss every time and I have forced Myself to listen to the last 3 minutes of the studio version cause that is the TEST of ones will for bliss. The ending is the sweet come down of mello and the parts before it are Fucking amazing!
I have been listening to this barely known Rock Star band for many years. Saw them on Austin City Limits. They are one of the besy and yes he sounds like Bob Dylan by coincidence. I consider myself a Rock Connoisseur after 50 yrs of intense music. They rate with Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Dire Straits, Foriegnet and all the big boys! I'm 66 and going to see this band in Sept in NC. ALSO WSP, SCI, LUKAS NELSON and anybody who plays outside withon 100 miles
My grandad told me that he was from Cork and he used travel all the way to Dublin to date my Nan, and I probably nodded approvingly being humble and just wanting to continue to listen to a natural storyteller, that;s how I feel with these guys playing a concert, the sound reverberating in my apartment, being on a journey with friends....
Wow. As good as every single song in this set was, Red Eyes is one of the best 'stand and deliver' live songs I've ever seen. Simply breathtaking. Saw them in Vancouver and it was life changing. I've been listening to LITD for two years straight.
For one, their music sends you in a mood way higher and detached than of this world's. A masterpiece, indeed. Greetings from an avid fan from the Philippines.
The synth at 28:40 sounds like a mixture of My Hometown and Dancing in the Dark Its like The War on Drugs just get everything from Dire Straits to Dylan and Sprinsteen, mix it up and form something even more beautiful with it
They're such a special band :) Every instrument sounds splendid and Adam seems like such a genuine guy. Thank you for existing! I'll be so happy when they finally announce that they are bringing out another album.
I saw them in Austin last month. As we waited for the opening band(Califone) Anthony Lemarca walked right pass me and no one noticed and then about 5 minutes later Charlie Hall walked right by me as well. I wanted to high-five them but didn't. Favorite band, great concert and venue.
+Regina Ponce Thanks for your synopsis on American music, where on earth do you obtain your information? Its incredibly wrong, you're too young to embarrass yourself so very badly... No we're not...TS sucks...Lest we never forget who founded Rock n' Roll...America the beautiful ...
+Regina Ponce I'm going to assume you like Taylor S. Personally, many of us Americans are into so many different genres that display our delicious taste in music, not all of us get lost in the mainstream industry but rather rear into our roots of rock and roll. I have more friends that have classy taste in music and barely any that will recognize a song on a pop radio station, just saying. :)
This is my first time hearing about this band and I'm impressed! Just ordered their newest album from Amazon, and I want to get their others as well. Mesmerizing!
@Troy Ferguson. Well stated for sure and sweeeeet! I agree with you! I will add that No matter what people think about this band, they are factually, in the music and artistry world totally Fucking a breath of fresh air and anyone who says they "Are nothing special" should at least give props that the band kicks Ass to feeling and emotion at high levels. Free speech for all and I will challenge anyone who states that THE WAR ON DRUGS is "Nothing Special!" :-D

They are a soft version of New Model Army.. love em...
America is not a country.
Are you the narrator?
I agree except for the giving you us americans more credit. Very very few people are in agreement with. I am a music snob tho, if you play Taylor Swift in front of me I'll judge you forever.
I just turned 70 and these guys rock! Keep on trucking!
Max Girouard They are probably the last real rock and roll band that will mean something apart from Radiohead
Frank Gerber Wow... Depressing and so untrue. Frank Gerber There will always be rock.
Max Girouard 53 here. These guys are really good. Bravo for using real horns and sax live. Lots of textures going on.
+Fred Garvin Exactely. I was thinking "what happens to that magic sound when they perform live?" Yep, still there :)

Well said my friend. ❤️
Dylan, Neil Young, Dire Straits, The Waterboys, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel.......... hope this helped, my father liked them all!
edit: with a touch of shoegaze
❤
Bruce Springsteen and Spacemen 3 are the most noticeable ones as well as Bob Dylan, Roxy Music, Dire Straits and Peter Gabriel
Every once in a while a very special band comes along. The war on drugs are one such band.
Was reading the back and forth in the comments and was like 10 years ago! Best Kept Secret indeed. I was watching Black Francis with my new gf and my old gf on the other arm. i/m 50+yrs this takes me back to my early years. So good that you younguns are getting into your dads music!!
Just seen them live in Newcastle. Great sound!
Tom McKAY I have tickets for Philly in a few weeks....should be good.
But isn't this todays music?
Michael Burke yes .of course it is!!!
Well than with all due respect this isn't our dads music. It may be influenced by some older music but it is new music by a young dude. These new guys deserve some props for what they are creating. Finally a band that is really worth it and not so much commercial mediocrity that it's already disgusting!!!
I am just mind blown at this musical gift, and that I never heard of these guys until recently.
Never too late. Glad you found them

Lost in the Dream is about perseverance and love. They're channelling a higher force.

+Ladies and Gentleman . Rock is Not Dead and My faith in Music has been restored .Thank You TWOD !
Under the pressure, gave me chills, what a version, that sax with drums, building the tempo, friggin great.
Love how the drummer is waiting to just give'er with the tempo building

Lost in the Dream was the best album of the whole decade.
Fantastic Band!!! How exciting to hear!!! Phenomenal Sax!!! Wooooow
Best band to appear in 30 years
That's Radiohead.
But The War on Drugs are dope as well.
Best band (in the view of this old biker) since Pink Floyd, & I've been rocking to them since 69. Come to Cork, Ireland soon guys..
❤words can't describe the total happy hypnotic state of me watching and listening ❤🙏🎶💖💖💖💖💖
Wow. As good as every single song in this set was, Red Eyes is one of the best 'stand and deliver' live songs I've ever seen. Simply breathtaking. Saw them in Vancouver and it was life changing. I've been listening to LITD for two years straight.
Saw them at Boston Calling yesterday. Simply amazing talent.
My favorite drummer, dude is awesome.
He's definitely putting in the work but man, poor guy! Adam only knows how to program one drum beat ;-)
Brazil in love
@@karstenhammerhansen If the beat is good enough, you don't need more than one.
The first time I heard 'Red Eyes' last year I fell in love with these guys
Just heard it yesterday and instantly hooked!
Just discovered this great band, and will forward this link around....
+Tim Hansen Me too, heard them at Cafe Racer in Seattle (on Pandora). Best shit I've heard in a while. Going to download them from Amazon now!

Ocean in Between the Waves is such a monster of a song, and this version is so sumptuous
Bravo, c'est un vrai bonheur cette vidéo.
I love this band! They are really great musicians!
I was there in 2014, sun was going down. the nearby lake was like a mirror....
You lucky bastard!! 😂😎☺️
Lucky to have seen them live in California, but certainly not this beautiful setting ❤️ I want to see them again!!
Quit trying so hard.
For one, their music sends you in a mood way higher and detached than of this world's. A masterpiece, indeed. Greetings from an avid fan from the Philippines.

Eyes to the wind! those keyboards amazingly enclose the theme in a solid rock
I love how we wanna frame of reference music by date and category - they're just great songs, great songs are timeless and for everyone.
The synth at 28:40 sounds like a mixture of My Hometown and Dancing in the Dark
Its like The War on Drugs just get everything from Dire Straits to Dylan and Sprinsteen, mix it up and form something even more beautiful with it

I wanted to high-five them but didn't. Favorite band, great concert and venue.
I understand why some people would dislike this band...I mean, America is more into a Taylor Swift kinda shit. I’m just glad I have taste.
Regina Ponce You're not the only one.
Regina Ponce SPIRIT :D, love this music althoug i'm not from America

También soy de Perú :'3
arriba Perú, arriba la buena música hermanos.
It's this live rendition that has made me appreciate this band thoroughly. Just wish it wasn't just in this context. I can't feel much with their studio material, not even with other live performances. This one here has a raw energy and connects.
+tiesthijsthejs Agreed. I don't know what they had in mind on the studio production but this is up their with the KEXP performance. So much more drive and passion to it than the watered down recording. These guys seem to do best when they rock it rather than roll it.
Great, can't wait to see in Sydney.
Sin duda la mejor banda de todos los tiempos. All songs are perfect!
Love it verry verry match 😘🌞👍👏🥁🎺🎻🎹🎶
Love them!!!!
Absolutely love this band!!!!!!!!! Can't stand still while they fully jam on
Thanks for sharing!
Love this band
I recently saw them live in Tulsa at Cains ballroom, great intimate venue, they were incredible! That same weekend went through the newly opened Bob Dylan museum right down the street, it was a beautiful weekend with my girl 😏
