Michigan has been saying all year that "To be the man, you gotta beat the man." in regards to targeting UGA this year. They have a "Beat Georgia" drill in their practice. I'm sure that's already been renamed to "Beat Bama" now. Michigan wanted this in the most respectful way to Alabama.

The Michigan program was set back at least 10 years from the rich rod era. Harbaugh brought the program back it just took longer than expected. Urban Myers took advantage of that. Now Michigan is back and setting the new bar in the big ten
I am nervous because of our bowl history Also you know Saban will have his team ready. What is great is that we have Corum healthy this year. We beat TCU last year with a healthy Corum. I just pray they try to draw up some plays to get Edwards involved in the short pass game. We need all our weapons to sustain drives and keep their offense off the field.
For the life of me I cannot understand why, after such success against PSU with it, we haven’t seen that big set again. I don’t mean as a base formation or an all the time thing, but the were really unstoppable doing that. To your point about weapons: that’s one that is severely underused.

2021-2023 was an era of greatness, 3 titles, 2 undefeated seasons, however, there are concerns. The Zinter injury has really set back the O line, JJ was sacked 4 TIMES against Iowa, that is a major concern, since bama has a similar pass rush, the WRs cant get seperation, they are constantly dragging defenders with them, the run game is affected by the loss of Zinter as well. The largest concern though is how they approach the 27 days leading up to the Rose bowl, the track record was not been great in the CFP or the new years six games. Im along for the ride and I hope we win but we have to take down 2 giants, one of which has won 7 natties and been to 9 of them, lets hope they are motivated and dont come out flat.

The bylaw was put into place in the early 90s using the ridiculous reason that not all schools could afford to send scouts to all their opponents' games. In 2021, the NCAA itself reviewed the bylaw, and almost dropped it, admitting it provided little benefit and was almost impossible to monitor, especially now that everyone with a cell phone can record and hand over videos. Insiders say that all the top schools are secretly purchasing sideline videos, as it's a loose knit industry, so to speak.

A few years ago I said I would never believe the Wolverines could beat Ohio State until it happens in real life. Then they did 3 years in a row. Last January I said I would never believe they can win a playoff game until I see it happen in real life. I am fervently hoping they will make me a believer on New Year's Day. Michigan ran the gauntlet playing the #2, 3 and 4 scoring defenses in the country the last 4 games. Nobody in the CFP is in the top 12. Defense and special teams will keep them in the game against anybody. The offense just needs to keep finding ways to score consistently.
Michigan seems to struggle in bowl games. I think the brutal Big Ten Season takes a toll on the team. I hope this year is different and Michigan bounces back.

There's no way in the wild world that Michigan's offensive coaching staff thinks they are going to run Corum up the middle 25 times and win. That being said, with as much talent at TE and RB that can catch passes down field, Bama LB should be in for a long day. There is NO WAY Michigan's coaches can treat this like a Penn State or even an Ohio State with stalling offenses. They can and should win this game, but it can't be handled like a B1G game. Go Blue!!
As a Michigan fan..I have zero confidence they'll beat Alabama. Not because of any deficiency. But Michigan almost never wins bowl games. As soon as bowl season starts, they turn into the Detroit Lions of CFB.
Bama has shown that they are beatable this year in several games and it has only been... well, LUCK that they were not beaten more than once. I think Michigan has a definite advantage in "consistent play" shown in all of their wins this year. And as Steve says, unless they somehow play uncharacteristically in this game, they have a better than average chance to win this one and the Natty. It will most likely be determined by how well the O-line comes together without Zak Zinter. But a month to prepare for that is pretty good odds it will return to a dominant O-line once the games begin. Two game series for all the marbles... Go Blue!!!

Coach Paterno was the only coach I know of who had 5 undefeated teams in his tenure at Penn State and only won 1 national title with them. So I went to the Big Ten Championship on Saturday. And what you notice live versus on TV is that JJ McCarthy stares down the WR he is going to throw to from the klhike of the ball. A great defense like Alabama can pick him off regularly. JJ doesn't not look over the field for the open WR.

I'm curious how JJ is 25-1 as a starter with two conference championships if he is that fundamentally weak. They beat 3 defenses, all better than Alabama's, without a single interception being thrown.
JJ hits the first rcvr he sees open. If the #1 guy is open he's getting the ball .. doesn't matter if the #2 is open for a bigger play. That's how he's being coached

My 40+ years of watching Michigan football have given me a profound case of Battered Wolverine Syndrome. Far too many times, I’ve seen highly touted Michigan teams swagger into big games and/or bowl games, only to unceremoniously crap the bed. I would love to slay the beast that is Alabama and I think they could. Still, I’ve had my hopes stomped on too many times to be overly optimistic. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Okay I might be a Alabama fan, but I am far from someone with rose colored glasses about my team. Matter of fact the morning of Selection Sunday I was convinced we were not getting in even though I believed we deserved to be there. The argument over FSU to me comes down to this, there is criteria the committee use to evaluate teams that goes beyond wins and losses and for good reason. If you watched the ACC championship two things should be clear. 1)FSU is not undefeated without Jordan Travis and 2) What FSU is currently while they still have a good defense they are not one of the best teams in the country. Again I am not here vying for my team, i was happy they won the SEC and if that is where our journey ended while I wouldn't agree with it I also wouldn't be out marching in the streets over it. I think when you focus on the fact a team was undefeated then you go from "best" to "most deserving". This goes beyond FSU today. I remember when Cincinnati was undefeated what a decade ago and everyone said then they should be in the conversation about the natty and ended up in a New Year 6 and got destroyed, before them it was a undefeated Hawaii team with the same result. The fact is if you actually break down the metrics aside from that 1 loss beside Alabama name, Bama is better than FSU. We have more wins verses top 25 opponents and we have played more top 25 opponents. LSU is their best win and while they beat LSU pretty good, we beat the same team and our best win is was 12 spots higher than FSUs best win in the rankings. I know LSU "was a top 5" team at the beginning of the season but putting that win on par with that Alabama has done would be like giving Oh State made props for beating what is now a 4 loss Notre Dame team. So while I give them credit for scheduling a solid power house and the beginning of the season Bama did the exact same, and while we may have lost that team we lost too is the #3 team in the nation and the Big 12 Champion that stuff should matter. Otherwise we can all go back to scheduling schedules that favor teams going undefeated and stop looking for good/challenging football games.
Alabama's ugly "win" over Auburn should have dropped them from number 8 in the BCS...but for some reason, it did not. 2 weeks later they drop FSU for an "ugly" win. Weird.

Michigan has played the #2, #3 and #4 top defenses in the last four games, which is why their rushing totals have been limited. Alabama is #16 in defense. The bylaw was put into place in the early 90s using the ridiculous reason that not all schools could afford to send scouts to all their opponents' games. In 2021, the NCAA itself reviewed the bylaw, and almost dropped it, admitting it provided little benefit and was almost impossible to monitor, especially now that everyone with a cell phone can record and hand over videos. Insiders say that all the top schools are secretly purchasing sideline videos, as it's a loose knit industry, so to speak.

A few years ago I said I would never believe the Wolverines could beat Ohio State until it happens in real life. Then they did 3 years in a row. Last January I said I would never believe they can win a playoff game until I see it happen in real life. I am fervently hoping they will make me a believer on New Year's Day. Michigan ran the gauntlet playing the #2, 3 and 4 scoring defenses in the country the last 4 games. Nobody in the CFP is in the top 12. Defense and special teams will keep them in the game against anybody. The offense just needs to keep finding ways to score consistently.

There's no way in the wild world that Michigan's offensive coaching staff thinks they are going to run Corum up the middle 25 times and win. That being said, with as much talent at TE and RB that can catch passes down field, Bama LB should be in for a long day. Bama has shown that they are beatable this year in several games and it has only been... well, LUCK that they were not beaten more than once. I think Michigan has a definite advantage in "consistent play" shown in all of their wins this year. And as Steve says, unless they somehow play uncharacteristically in this game, they have a better than average chance to win this one and the Natty. It will most likely be determined by how well the O-line comes together without Zak Zinter. But a month to prepare for that is pretty good odds it will return to a dominant O-line once the games begin.

Coach Paterno was the only coach I know of who had 5 undefeated teams in his tenure at Penn State and only won 1 national title with them. Anyone remember 1994 with that awesome team they had and they finished 2nd. So Florida State I feel for you but welcome to my world being a Penn State fan.

So I went to the Big Ten Championship on Saturday. And what you notice live versus on TV is that JJ McCarthy stares down the WR he is going to throw to from the klhike of the ball. A great defense like Alabama can pick him off regularly. JJ doesn't not look over the field for the open WR.

My 40+ years of watching Michigan football have given me a profound case of Battered Wolverine Syndrome. Far too many times, I’ve seen highly touted Michigan teams swagger into big games and/or bowl games, only to unceremoniously crap the bed. I would love to slay the beast that is Alabama and I think they could. Still, I’ve had my hopes stomped on too many times to be overly optimistic. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Only way you guys are gonna beat Alabama is if your qb is allowed to run the ball.
Okay I might be a Alabama fan, but I am far from someone with rose colored glasses about my team. Matter of fact the morning of Selection Sunday I was convinced we were not getting in even though I believed we deserved to be there. The argument over FSU to me comes down to this, there is criteria the committee use to evaluate teams that goes beyond wins and losses and for good reason. If you watched the ACC championship two things should be clear. 1)FSU is not undefeated without Jordan Travis and 2) What FSU is currently while they still have a good defense they are not one of the best teams in the country. Again I am not here vying for my team, i was happy they won the SEC and if that is where our journey ended while I wouldn't agree with it I also wouldn't be out marching in the streets over it. I think when you focus on the fact a team was undefeated then you go from "best" to "most deserving". This goes beyond FSU today. I remember when Cincinnati was undefeated what a decade ago and everyone said then they should be in the conversation about the natty and ended up in a New Year 6 and got destroyed, before them it was a undefeated Hawaii team with the same result. The fact is if you actually break down the metrics aside from that 1 loss beside Alabama name, Bama is better than FSU. We have more wins verses top 25 opponents and we have played more top 25 opponents. LSU is their best win and while they beat LSU pretty good, we beat the same team and our best win is was 12 spots higher than FSUs best win in the rankings. I know LSU "was a top 5" team at the beginning of the season but putting that win on par with that Alabama has done would be like giving Oh State made props for beating what is now a 4 loss Notre Dame team. So while I give them credit for scheduling a solid power house and the beginning of the season Bama did the exact same, and while we may have lost that team we lost too is the #3 team in the nation and the Big 12 Champion that stuff should matter. Otherwise we can all go back to scheduling schedules that favor teams going undefeated and stop looking for good/challenging football games.
Alabama's ugly "win" over Auburn should have dropped them from number 8 in the BCS...but for some reason, it did not. 2 weeks later they drop FSU for an "ugly" win. Weird.
