  • In the season premiere of The Joel Klatt Show: Big Noon Conversations, Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt sits down with new Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore. Coach Moore tells the story of when Jim Harbaugh told him he would be the next coach of the Wolverines. He describes what made the 2023 National Championship team so unique and how much motivation the sign-stealing saga provided the group throughout the year. Recapping the Playoff run, Coach Moore reveals his favorite moments and what was said on the sideline in the moments just before Michigan’s 4th Quarter comeback vs Alabama in the Rose Bowl. He also describes why the win at Penn State as interim Head Coach was so special to him and, of course, the two discuss his post-game interview with Jenny Taft that followed that game.

Rivalry aside, nothing but respect how they run things at Michigan. The way they develop players is truly remarkable. After 15 years of darkest stretch in Michigan football history, I was hurt too many times to start believing again until there were around 2 minutes left in the Ohio State game in 2021. The word of the day is authenticity. That was an intense, emotional contest, even without the backstory of the 24 hours leading up to it. Coach Moore was literally caught in real time having all of that catch up with him, on a hot mic. Cuss word aside (it was very in the moment), he said the right things, and credited Blakey, who came to his rescue.
      As a father, that means a lot. My son would be in very good hands, playing under Coach Moore. As a potential player, it should tell you something about the man's heart and character. Caring for the players is not window-dressing. All of the greatest coaches knew this and acted accordingly. I remember a late 1970's SI article about Joe Pa that revealed many similar things about him, and I am glad that his legacy has been restored.
      CFB has truly delivered on the potential that another Michigan head coach wrote about, nearly 120 years ago. Fielding H. Yost wrote to President Teddy Roosevelt that the game was a vehicle for molding better men. There have been dozens of coaches at various schools who have carried this same flag over the years, and you can see that they have delivered on that promise. Some of that delivery has to be on the field, but Joe Pa liked to point to his players' post-football successes. We still need a lot more of that kind of messaging.

      The Cult of Bo had kinda worn thin, by the turn of the century. It needed a new figurehead, at that point. JH took another decade to arrive and fulfill the promise of 1969. What's old eventually becomes new again, and JH showed the CFB world that this is axiomatically true. His heir does have big shoes to fill, and lofty expectations, but there's already ample proof that he's the right guy for the job. Players and true fans of the sport (allegiances aside) understand this. You see it here in the comments. CFB fans will always be superior to NFL fans IMHO, for such reasons.

I believe that OLine is the most important group on a winning football team. Head Coach at UM is a prestigious job and he just may choose to stay there. Great interview with a talented young coach. Love his enthusiasm and respect his coming up, and hard work, and dedication. He has obviously big shoes to fill,and coming off a natty, losing 14 to the draft. Along with one of the toughest schedules in the country, he has his work cut out for him. Curious to see his recruiting, even though we never have a top 5 or 10 in the country, we create and build in house. Expectations this year and reality will be tough pill to swallow, but imperative. Looking forward to CFB and as always GO BLUE

    Hearing him breakdown his playing calling sequence in the Bama game against the GOAT coach is why he's the right guy for Michigan. As a long time Michigan fan there's times I felt our players weren't in good positions to win big games. Since Moore became the full time OC i haven't felt that way. I hope he keeps some of the play calling responsibility moving froward as the HC at least in year 1.

      As an OSU fan, I can’t understand why you only have 5 commits BUT it’s normal to have a weak recruiting class directly after a major coaching change.
      The 2026 class will be a better indication of whether Sherone Moore can recruit at a high level.

    • @MBlue-sk4tr
      @MBlue-sk4tr 13 днів тому +1

      @@dragonsurge1 I agree with this. There is significant change going on with UM right now, and the new staff is playing catchup forming relationships with these recruits.
      I also feel 2026 will be a much stronger indicator of Moore’s success (or lack thereof) on the recruiting trail.

With that being said Oriji has an excellent chance to prove himself and all the naysayers wrong. He is a dedicated player who has shown tremendous maturity and leadership, the key for him will be making the routine throw when needed and protecting the football.
