This was a very thorough video and very helpful in repairing my uncle’s Genie garage door opener. There were actually two problems with his, one with pinched wiring from tight stapling during original installation and depending on time of day, the sunlight caused problems with the green sensor. This video addressed both problems very well. Thanks for the attendance to detail.

I watched this video as I was pondering how to mount the sensors when switching from Genie (1024 model with old school boxy sensors) to Chamberlain. I decided to keep the old Genie bracket. I slid the sensor off and drilled a hole in the bracket to fit the screw hole for the Chamberlain/liftmaster sensor. It's a surprisingly good fit.

I have run into the sunlight problem, I made an ABS pipe cover and then they worked perfectly. Thanks....Jim
PS.....I got a new Liftmaster 8550, it’s so much better than a Genie.....I’ll never go back. My new door opener is so quiet, has battery backup, has MyQ, is so easy to program, and has a button on the outside pad to close......many things Genie lacked. I never got more than 8 years out of a Genie. In my family there are 2 Liftmaster over 25 years old. Programming is so easy.

Hello Jim Pie! Thanks for the feedback. The 8550WLB is my go-to belt drive motor from LiftMaster. It's a very polished motor. I've never had a customer complain this motor. Genie use to dominate the garage door motor space for a long time. But they have had an uphill battle with some of their newer motors. I appreciate your feedback. Stay safe party person!

We are wanting to add another door sensor on the other door, however for all Genie's videos and UA-cam, they do not show how to wire connect the two openers together allowing Aladdin Connect to manage the other door.

I had to replace the sensors on my aunt's genie intellicode screw drive once. The red sensor was giving the 3 flash error code, meaning it was getting interference. It wasn't from the sun, it still did it when the door was closed. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, so we just changed them out and we haven't had any issues with it since.

Will the new Genie Safety Eyes work with my Genie Blue Max screw drive circa 1994? If so the old sensors have a plug on the end of the wire that goes into the back of them. Do I just cut the plug off and strip the wires and connect them via the screw terminals? If so which colored wire goes to which terminal? One wire is solid white and the other is white with a blue stripe. Thank you!

My old Genie square sensors were working fine, then all of a sudden they died, i.e. no green or red lights. I ruled out the potential wiring problem since the system was working. I plugged in the two new Genie sensors shown in this video. Unfortunately, there is still no green or red light with the new sensors. Any thoughts on what could the problem be?
BTW, the garage door opener motor is still working; it will open, but it won't close for the obvious reason that the sensors are not working.

My current sensors are the old black square ones, but the terminals are on the inside of the box, not on the outside like the ones you showed in this video. Directions
    twist solid color wires together
    Twist stripe color wires together
That makes 2 twisted wires on each side.
Connected 2twisted wires to top screw and two twisted wires to bottom screw.
    Test
When wired right Geen LED is on (not blinking) and Red LED is on (not blinking) when sensors are alighted.
Sensors are not aligned Red LED blinks
    Wires 8 or 4 wiring.
    On mine
One of the orange solid color wires were pulled out and nothing worked up or down remote or wall switch worked. So spent $40 on new the new Geni tube sensors.

Santiago, I've bought a Chamberlain model sensor kit to install onto a few years old Genie opener; this was the only one Home Depot carried at several stores. In your experience, are they cross compatible. The Chamberlain box says only to install onto a couple different brands but doesn't mention Genie as one of those brands. I have to install on a rental property that is a bit of a drive and I don't want to travel all the way out there to find that they don't work together. Its seems like one of your readers mentioned this (Dollar Guy), but not the Chamberlain model specifically.
    Thanks Santiago. Great video btw.

Hi Santiago, Question- I just purchased the new Genie Max Pro to replace my old Genie Pro Model # CM7600IC/A screw drive. I have the old type sensors that you have shown in this video. I have checked the operation with my currently installed senors and they work with the new model. • @sosgds

Hello. The reason why is because that motor was not from their original manufacturer. Basically you have to cut the clips off. You will want to strip a small portion of the plastic sheath to the wire exposing the wiring about 1/2 inch. And you will join the white wires together. Okay so it should be that you should have two terminals on each sensor. And the four terminals to the Motorhead will be for the wall button and the sensors. So the last thing you want to do is to apply the safety sensor wiring to the connecting terminals for the wall button. You only want to use the two terminals for the safety sensor. I know that sounds a little confusing but basically if all four terminals to the motor are occupied then that means your specific motor may not have the sufficient terminals for safety sensors, thus your motor would be too old and you're better off upgrading your motor system then simply applying new sensors.
