    For Tip 9. I think you are spot on. If are new to drafting it is better for you to have an idea of how your deck will play and pick according to your play style , over an app that just going compare cards. I know the app may go into some sort of colour or theme weighting. But they don’t account for your play style. Maybe you are use to aggro creature decks or handy with removal or have more experience with a particular colour. You will have a better experience if you pick to your strengths.
    What I find helpful is using draftsims sealed deck builder tool after my draft to compare my build against an AI build. It is handy to sort by cmc or colour and get a good overview.

    I'm currently on a 50% win after 6 QD (18-18) with 4-3 x 3 on 6 match. I passed only one rare so I'm drafting to collect cards and doing my best to create competitive decks. I have an Untapped subscription that helps me to take the right pick. In some case I preferred to take my decision because there is a focus on most valuable card and you can have some curve issue (too much expensive or too less expensive) affecting the competitivity of your deck. What I saw in Draft is the matches are always longer than in standard so you need to balance at best your mana curve and have some big guys helping you. The removals you will have will be limited so use it careful to create advantage or fill a gap. thanks for your advice and for sharing your knowledge.

    I did my first quick draft ever and went 4-3. Long queue for play and ended up going against silvers 50% of the time. Felt conflicted when faced with the choice to pick a rare that I'd have no use for vs. an uncommon that I could use. Not sure about the time commitment for going through the whole process (reading about lots of unfamiliar cards) vs. doing something like more Jump Ins to get cards. Lots more to do if I want to get enough gems for mastery pass as a free to play player.

    I don't like draft on MTGA because you won't be playing the people in your draft pod. Normal draft you can pick around opposing cards or hate draft what you can't play around. In MTGA draft it doesn't matter and you can be paired against someone that's drafted what you did when you planned on being the only one with those cards.

    I think your tip 10 is the most important with tip followed by 7 and then 1, 3,6,8 and 9 are also good, but none are bad. I think people over value synergy, rares, and rarely look at anlaytics or leverage tools. Learning from a really good draft specialist streamer also help. Some do overpick the rare or go for flashy decks to entice and excite their viewers, but there's much to learn. The untapped gg and 17 lands or limited grades are good objective resources based on data. Keep in mind some of the human generated content like LSV grades can be wrong, but are still useful. Data can be misleading, but 80% of the time it is usually right. In this current format, it is wild how powerful some of the uncommons are beating at many rares and even some mythics with Caverns of Ixalan.

    this is a year late but Im just now seeing this. Depending on the format keeping yourself "open" early in drafts is crucial. Even after watching countless hours and spending 1000s of dollars on mgta , I still only 3-3 every 15 games. Mostly 0-3 is my common standard. I religiously follow the most vanilla standard of bread, bred and follow the vanilla optics of archetypes flavor. I e. Toxic flavoring, I follow the 3 color swing to grab all the basic flavor. I do not obviously understand the micro , macro and nuances synergies in draft. This is more stressful and not as straightforward as brewing or playing constructed , where I do a far better as to the percentage of the flavor meta.

      @gameschooldadMTG not sure. I know I suffer with the time drafts trying to pick cards. I think my problem is the actual brewing of the deck, possibly how I pilot them. I have "drafted" since the early form of it during the ice age era of magic. I tend to stay in my safe zone and play constructed. Also, I think I stumble a bit trying to fill the role of the archetypes. Maybe not understanding the essence of each one correctly, to where I get the appropriate synergies to match up or I am too synergies focus. I am not sure.

    • @thescum666

      @gameschooldadMTG I am just beginning to think limited is not for me. I just spent 300 usd on gems to draft rw wide out aggro flavor archetypes. I went 0-3 every game. I seem to have an obvious misunderstanding with how to brew a more synergistic deck. I had scooped in 4 separate events after mulligans due to lack of mana or curve of hand ls were against curve. Possibly, I do not understand the correct curve for this format as where ranked constructed you have more time and practice with flavor of the archetypes cards and optimization of the deck with saucy and spicy upgrades and Interlocking synergies.
      I am probably just not grasping the concept of draft.

How can show you my current pile of what I feel is chauff ans jank. I really struggling with this concept. Especially now it is dmu draft, which I am struggling worse since every archetypal flavour is expected to splash at least a 3rd to get the deck to sync and pilot close enough to the 2 colour outline of the prescribed archetypes. I've even looked up flagship, signit. Signpost and pick up cards of what fit into each category of archetype, and I seem not to draft enough to be synergisticly prepared to pivot enough to draft the commentary archetype in the next class . How exactly does duplicate protection work in Arena?

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  Рік тому +1

      There's a lot to say, and it's probably better off in a video of its own, but the short version is... When you open packs, it won't give you a 5th copy of a rare or mythic, it'll give you another card you don't have 4 of yet, so the pack isn't wasted. With commons and uncommons it will give you a small fraction of 'vault progress' instead of anything else, and when the vault is 100% full, it will give you a few extra wildcards. Some things like draft picks and daily ICRs are not duplicate protected.

      I wouldn't recommend passing up a good draft card for a rare that you aren't that bothered about, but most of the time you'll have too many playable draft cards when it comes time to build your deck, so you should usually be able to pick rares and build a decent deck. The number of wins in Premier Draft is much more important than the number of wins in a Quick Draft, so it just depends on the event you're doing and how the draft is going at that point.

    Drafting is just a scam. I tried twice, didn't win a single round. 4 of the 6 opponents had the exact same colours as I had and they stole all my cards.
    Just avoid drafting, you won't win.

      I'm not sure what you mean about the opponent stealing your cards? Drafting isn't for everyone, I never used to like it because I couldn't win either, but since I took the time to learn how to improve, I now get a consistent 60% win rate and I really enjoy it.

      Tried twice? I would imagine that if you are only doing things that you succeed on the first couple tries then your life must be devoid of challenge. Idk. Maybe you are being facetious, but if not...there is an old saying: third time's the charm...
