Great recipe. I cut down on the fat & calories just a bit by replacing the butter with Country Crock margarine ( can also use I can't believe it's not butter) and replacing the white sugar with Stevia in the Raw. Still used regular brown sugar and it was DELICIOUS!

I know this is only a quick recipe in a mug but gram weights are always appreciated. I can spoon and level a tablespoon of flour but I'm sure there will be many who use too much and in this small of a recipe it would be a problem.
For those who love chocolate chip cookies the New York Times just did a video on their ultimate chocolate chip cookie, just a couple of days ago. I can't post a link here or the comment will be deleted but it's a very good cookie and you can make various substitutions. I highly recommend hand chopping the chocolate, don't use preformed chips.
The wonderful thing with those cookies is that after you scoop them into dough balls you can freeze them. Be sure to refrigerate the dough for two or three days first to develop the flavors, the video explains the technique. Then put the dough balls in to a freezer bag and put them in the freezer. When you need a cookie or two, take the dough balls out of the freezer and bake them from frozen. It only takes an extra minute or two. That way you get fantastic chocolate chunk cookies in not much longer than it would take to make these. It is true though that you would have to heat the oven to make the other cookies but if you're willing to wait 20 minutes it's worth it.
To clarify, there is absolutely a place for a cookie in a mug. These are great when you have 2 minutes and need a cookie. The reference to the New York Times recipe is for a different kind of cookie.

    • @Kyarrix
      @Kyarrix Рік тому

@@Caterpillartears It's not about being disciplined, weighing dry ingredients helps create a better result. That's why gram weights are given in most recipes. A cup of flour can differ by up to 30 to 40 g depending on how you scoop it, spoon it, level it, everyone's technique is different. If you're making a quick cookie it's not difficult to put the mug on the scale and do it that way to ensure that you're getting it right.

    Equipment:
    Coffee Mug
    Spoon
    ----------------------------
    1 tablespoon unsalted butter
4 teaspoons packed light brown sugar
    1 tablespoon granulated sugar
    ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
    Pinch of salt
    1 egg yolk
    3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips
    1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    --------------------------------
    1. Place the butter in an 8-ounce microwave-safe mug, and microwave for 30 seconds until mostly melted.
    2. Stir in the sugar, vanilla, and salt with a spoon until combined. Add the egg yolk and stir until smooth. Stir in the flour and most of the chocolate chips until combined. Sprinkle the top with the remaining chocolate chips.
    3. Microwave on high for 45 seconds to 1 minute or until the dough has puffed and appears dry. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Best is enjoyed warm with ice cream.

Heads up everyone..don't fall for it. There is no prize..it's a scam.

This reminded me of my mom ... who is now 96. When I was a little girl, I'd tell her I wanted to "bake". She would always hand me this particular bowl ... kinda small ... and she would tell me what to put in it. Then we'd bake it in the oven. It came out as a little cake. Wasn't great tasting, BUT I MADE A CAKE! I'm sure this recipe is excellent and I'm going to bake it today.

I love experimenting with flavours so I would love a recipe that I can do that with, I tried some vanilla mug recipes and they were okay but kinda bland. I'd love to try a recipe from you!

If you want to elevate a normal vanilla mug cake I would suggest adding various spices, like cinnamon or nutmeg, to give it an extra bit of flavour. I also have a bad habit of adding a spoonful of homemade caramel on top, though my tastebuds would disagree with that sentiment, it’s absolutely delicious, as a sort of makeshift frosting. The caramel recipe is on his page as well. Happy baking, I hope you find what you’re looking for in a vanilla mug cake eventually!

    Hello preppy!
I watched the whole video, it's great and it looks delicious, but I didn't understand all the video and I hope you consider the non-English speakers, and write the ingredients.
    Thank you. 🌹

I didn’t have time to look through all the comments but could this be made in ramekins and baked and how many minutes do you think. It’s cute for parry’s so everyone has a single dessert.

All your recipes are always so pretty and complex and this just seems very controversial in its simpleness. doesn't stop it from being delicious tho😋
