My grandpa was in WWI, my Daddy along with 2 of his brothers were in WWII, two of my uncle's were in Korea, one of them was also in Vietnam. My brother was in the Air Force, my best friend was in Desert Storm. My son's father was in Afghanistan during 911, we last him. This video had me crying so much I couldn't even see the screen.
I was a Navy wife. My husband was on the air craft carrier CVN-69 Dwight D Eisenhower. He deployed when I was 7 months pregnant and came home when our daughter was 5 months old. It was so hard and heartbreaking having our first baby by myself as a young newlywed. My due date was our 1st anniversary. Tough tough times. It was so hard for him not being with us. I was strong for him and our baby girl. This was in 1983. No internet. No cell phones. No face time. Just letters with the upsidedown stamp on it. I was so proud of my husband and he was so proud of me. Love you Billy. You're a good man. Thank you for sharing and caring. You make me smile.
Billy, I know how much those letters from home matter. I married young, and we lived in my home town for a year, then my husband went back to college -- I was away from my family for months at a time -- so I do understand how much the letters from home mean. Then, my husband was out of college and we moved to Florida -- even further away from my family. My husband went to college in Longview, Texas and our son was born there -- it was hard -- and I do appreciate how much harder it has to be for our veterans. Thank you, all of you veterans, for what you do. I love America, and I appreciate the tremendous stresses you endure for the cause of freedom. May God bless you.
I grew up a Navy brat. The worst thing my mom could do to me was utter the words "just wait until your dad gets home". That warning takes on a whole new level of impact when you're 5-years old and dad is only 1 month into a 6 month WestPac cruise. Interestingly enough, my dad died in 2007, and I would give parts of my anatomy for somebody to tell me, "just wait until your dad comes home" again.
Billy I'm a retired Aircraft Mechanic from the Navy, I retired in 1991 after Desert Shield/Storm. In my time we didn't have email and the internet. Our connection to family and friends was by letters, a phone call when we pulled into a port or if a message had to get home while we were at sea we could request a message be sent from the Mars station which was Ham Radio and Ham operators around the world would pass the message along until it got to a Ham Operator in your area and he would deliver the message, of course this was before all the Terrorist threats. Even with the ease of communication today I cant stress enough how much a letter, email or message from home means to those serving. Communication from friends and family means everything to them. If you know someone serving drop them a line, it's one of the greatest gifts you can give them.
I'm not in the military but I have several friends and family that are and have been in the military. This song just hits the heart everytime I hear it.
I'm not crying...you are.. that clip where all the families were running to their soldiers did me in. I can remember so many times my family being those people...every time Daddy came home
If you really want BYSE to make an appearance, find the version of this song with recorded messages from military veterans to their families and the families to the veterans. That will do it, bro.
This was a massive crossover hit and for good reason. I still tear up when I think of this song while traveling for work missing my little ones who just want Daddy to come home.
When I first heard this one, I was thinking of it like a trucker song, which I suppose is still feasible, they're away a lot too. When it hit me that it was military, I had to pull off the road. Thank all you military peeps for all you do. On a different subject, I sent you a twitter message a while back with something ( I am mostly a Facebook user. I am horrible at most social media so I'm not sure if it went through. ) but yeah, I'd really appreciate if you'd react to that if possible :) Thumbs up on this one.
Beautiful song, Thank you for your service to our country, My Dad was in the Marines, my uncle in the Army and my brother is in the Army now so I know where you are coming from. Keep up the good work and God bless you 🙏
My dad loves this song, played it a lot while I was growing up. He is retired military, and was overseas often while I was growing up. So, this resonates deeply.
I love that song so much. Billy this should make you smile, the little kitten I rescued loves your voice. Everytime I watch your videos she puts her tiny nose to the screen. So smile and I'm sorry your anxiety was raised. I know that's hard. We are here for you when you need friends to chat with.
I served in the Navy during Vietnam. We didn't get homecomings like that. There was no internet or youtube. You came home and just went to work no one cared. You didn't even really know if someone else was a Vet or not because no one talked about it. I left the service in 1970 after joining in 1964. Thank you for your service!
One veteran to another, thank you for your service, and for these videos. You make a lot of people happy just by watching your reactions, This is one of the songs that gets me emotional, even almost 30 years after I served. Thanks for doing what you do!!
Billy, Thank you for your service. I have always said, the families serve as well...Will never understand how you all do it....I love BYSE (Emtional) lol
From a person who has taken life and freedom for granted ty you for each day we have as Americans. Wish my life was different growing up. I wanted to go into the military . Thank you so much.
Thank you for what you said about the spouses!! My husband leaves in the morning for a deployment but any time i’m getting upset about the distance I always come back to your videos!!💙
In think suggested this song in the past because I knew it would get you right in the feels. I know they have somewhere this song but it has messages from military wives and family members in the song.
@BillyYSC This song came out when my uncle was stationed in Afghanistan. Let me tell you, this song me all choked up every time I heard it on the radio. Also I used to be in the Army too! I was in Fort Jackson, SC though. I've got MAD RESPECT for you brother. Thank you so much for your sacrifice. It definitely means a lot.
Miranda Lambert, Over you. I lost my 28 year old brother in 2001 to a massive heart attack. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. He was my best friend. I will never get over him. Even though it's been 18 years it seems like it was yesterday. Me being his baby sister he always protected me. And now I'm so empty inside. Seeing his stone, I just can't 😭😭😭
Yup, got me. Being a navy vet and seeing these pictures hit me in the feels. Never saw a boat, hit the sand pretty hard for months at a time. When you said, about your problems at home, but you have to keep doing your mission cut deep because its so damn true. Great song, thank you for your service homie
I met the songwriter of this song at the 2018 induction ceremony for the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. I was filming the ceremony. In his speech, he referred to this song and how he wrote it while being away from his family on business. He’s a really sweet guy. I just felt like sharing that.
My husband was in the Marine Corps and he would always tell me that the hardest job in the Marines was being a Marine wife. He would say he knew where he was going and what he had to do. But the spouse that stayed behind always had to wonder and guess, all the while staying strong and keeping everything in order back home. I remember during his first deployment after we were married, he was sent to Iraq, and it was hard. I would watch the news every chance I got, just Incase I could get a glimpse. Military life is hard, but it’s so worth it. Thank you for your service Billy and all other veterans and spouses!
My last ever deployment before my back gave out completely involved my daughter on both ends...the day my wife took me to the airport she said “dada” and pointed at me (so it wasn’t just sounds). The day I got back, my daughter walked out to me (which shocked my wife...the surprise in her eyes was evident) This song was played by me at least once a week while I was playing in the sandbox for those 6 months...
we had a phone at our patrol base north of mosul and i never used it once. told my family we didnt have phones cause i would never wanna hear or say good bye. so that was my way of making it easier we only communicated when id go to the fob to drop people off id run in and send a Facebook message back. except i called my dad one time from overthere on his birthday. 11b all the way bro
RIP. Grandpa Charles Spillman, U.S Army, Korean war and Vietnam veteran, my uncle was in Vietnam, was shot in the back and survived, my cousin is in airborne infantry he's stationed in Alaska he's currently on standby deployment, My cousin sent me this song while he was in basic training he told me (Never worry or think of me while I am out in the field, He has told me if he is killed or injured in a line of duty to always know he was doing something that he had always wanted to do and he wanted to keep his family and country safe.. Billy I'd like to see your reaction to Justin Moore The One's that didn't make it back home" Military tribute
A lot of BYSE requests lately, I do like you connecting so much with the crazy pack and new viewers, if you want something light hearted try All on me by Devin Dawson, or Good directions or Bring it over by Billy Currington. Sorry if you have already done those, I've watched a lot but I know sometimes they get removed.
I didn't have any children when I was in the Army but one thing I will never forget is when I received the message in the middle of basic training that my girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver I wasn't able to go to her funeral and to this day I haven't found the strength to visit her grave its been 20 years now
There is another version of this song that literally has voice messages from military spouses and kids to their loved ones. I thought this was it. Idk if you could find it or even do it. Byse would definitely come back for that.
I just got done talking to my son ! So this has me crying!!! I probably won’t hear from him again for awhile. 😔 I miss him so much but we are so proud of him too .
Out for a year. My friend I served 8 years and been out for 27 years. You are correct no matter how small it all matters. One of the best things we ever got on a long deployment was just a little pack soap, toothbrush, Buttwipe, Razers, bug juice, and a real wash cloth. And Fudge.
I love you my brother. I served in the Navy, but was raised by a Marine. If there is to be a Civil War 2... you can bet your ass that I will show up for the fight!
My mom’s mother’s name is Martine Tun, she died the year I was born but not in the month I was born so it’s been 15 years with her gone (which is also how old I am). My mom visits her mom’s grave every year on Valentine’s Day, Christmas as well I believe, and on her birthday. My mom still misses her mom to this day and she cries when she thinks of her and I always like to comfort my mom to let her know that she’s not alone because she has me to love forever. I love my mom so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️ also Billy you should react to MercyMe’s song, I can only imagine. That song will also hit you right in the feels and plus it’s a christian song
I will throw one more suggestion, five finger death punch's cover of gone away, the video is amazing and hits hard in how we sometimes treat our veterans
Another good veteran reacts would be The Whistler by The White Buffalo. It’s deep.. and heavy.. I love these reaction videos. My sister and brother in law both went to West Point. Thank you for your service!!
Finally now please do Randy Travis “Three Wooden Crosses”

“Front porch looking in” is another one of many awesome songs Lonestar sings.

My husband was a long haul trucker for a time and we loved this song. So much so that I had it played at his funeral. It fits.
