This song gets me too. As a Marine, while overseas I wrote an "in the event of my death" letter. I burned it when I got home but it was a real sobering letter to write.
At 18 years old I had to write one of those letters. At the same time most of my friends biggest worries were whether they would get laid after the football game on Friday night.
I think this song can make just about anyone cry. “I won’t be there there to see the birth of our little girl” and “tell Dad I don’t regret I followed in his shoes”. That hits like a ton of bricks.
Every time I hear this song I think of my grandpa who was a veteran of the army and died in his early to mid eighties. He received military honors at his funeral. He was once a soldier in the Army and he always will be a soldier in the army, though retired. I have no doubt that he is where soldiers should go when they pass away. As well as veterans like him.
i had the HONOR of being on The Detail, at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso Tx. while a member of the 3rd-ACR as Cadre to Military Funerals. It's hard, it was not during a time of conflict, and we buried mostly Veterans that passed away of "natural causes", but the crack of the rifle is still just as sharp, the sound of SPC Padilla ( an Armament Dawg from my shop and a trumpet player in high school) playing TAPS on an actual bugle that had been in the Regiment for well over 100 years (he practiced it til he had it down), The Flag, warmed by the Texas sun, folded perfectly and handed to the OIC, who had the toughest job in the entire world, to hand the "essence" of a Soldier to his widow (each time in our case) while we were relying on our own personal discipline to prevent us from just losing it) Missy (my sisters name is Missy BTW) while i have not felt the pain you have, i understand what it looks like having witnessed it. First, allow me to thank you and your family for the sacrifice you and they have made to our Nation, and to state that im Proud to have served under the same flag as they did. Secondly, to challenge you to remain as Proud of them as you were the day you wrote the post im responding to, i know you will, because thats what family does. and lastly, when you see a Veteran in a store or on the street, and make that eye contact and in some cases give that little nod, know that they know, Because We Know, just Smile back and keep rolling on. God Bless You and Your Family. Brave Rifles!
mike holton my Father was a single father Green Beret and I had the Blessings of being raised with our local National Guard family! I have always looked a soldier in the eyes and thanked them! My brother suffered from Huntington’s disease and I had to become his guardian! My only shame as an American is having Barak Obamas name on my Brothers death certificate!! God BLESS and thank you too!!❤️🙏🏻
Proud U.S. Army Veteran and now proud parent of a U.S. Navy Corpsman. Now I understand what I put my parents through. I've hand delivered one of these letters to a buddy's parents, now I'm scared to death of getting one from my daughter. Thank you for reacting to this Billy I've been after you to do it for a while now. I hope it touched you the same way it gets me. RLTW... Corpsman up
I'm a proud U.S. Army veteran I'm proud that I served my country. Now my son is in the Army that's all I worry about is that letter I might get someday but I know he's doin what he loves good on ya bub we love ya a lot
I truly hope you never have this letter. I was on the receiving end. It's been 15 years and I still miss my husband. Bless you for what you do. Thank you for your service.
Billy, I'm the mother of Army Infantry Veteran. Some don't know this but I do all too well, death is not the only sacrifice that you young men and women make. Sometimes it is even worse to come home with those scars, scars that will last a lifetime. I carry the scars and I was just here waiting for my son to come home, praying it would not be in a box. The nightmares that haunted me every single day still creep into my sleep occasionally 9 years later. Thank you and your family for their sacrifice, you are in my thoughts and prayers forever!
My father, baby brother, son in law, 2 ex husbands, former father in law, brother in law and other extended family members in the military. Fortunately they all came back, some more worse for the wear. My mother, 2 sisters and I also worked for the Navy. So this song hit me hard, I was a crying mess. Thank you for your service and I’m so sorry for your loss. Stay strong and I hope you live a long and happy life.
Army vet here. I wrote milestone letters for each of my kids, each of my deployments. For every milestone I could have potentially missed. First days at new schools, first crush, sweet sixteen, first love, graduation, the day they got married, first child...etc. I wrote a letter for every moment I thought my children should have their mother there. Even that small piece of me.....just in case. God bless those still writing these letters and keep those who's letters were delivered. Amen
Billy, Billy - I just want to reach through and hug you! BTW, my son was a Marine from 04-08. He told me that they were required to write a letter of this nature before a deployment, just in case. I don't know if this is just a Marine thing or not. Thank God I never got a letter like this. Again, God bless you and all of our service member. Again, thank you for your service!
I can 10000000% agree with you about the final roll call. Unfortunately on September 25, 2005, in a single ceremony in Kandahar, Afghanistan, we had to endure it 5 times. Mustang 22 will never be forgotten. Fly free, Fly High!!!!!!! Cleared for flight!!!!!
This song gets me every time I hear it. I will never know exactly what it’s like to be in your/their shoes to go over seas and fight, but I promise I will never take for granted the price it takes and the sacrifice you all pay to secure our freedom. THANK YOU for your service and all of the men and women in uniform! Freedom is not free. And even though I was not in the military, I do not take my freedom for granted. GOD BLESS you all!
I’m an Army Vet Too. Much older than you. I was a nurse ANC IN Desert Storm. Thank you for your service. Thank you for recording your reaction to this song. May The Lord Jesus Christ Be with you in this Calling you have❤️🇺🇸❤️❤️✝️❤️
The first time I heard this song was just as soon as I put my only son on a plane to head to boot camp. One of the hardest things I've done in my life.
Billy you so crazy my dad told me to tell thank you for your service he is a veteran as we'll we both sat here and cried together while we watched your video thank you for what you gave to your country 🙏🗽 ✝️🇺🇸
I just can't stand Alan jackson! I don't get it? Where were you is a terrible elementary like song. He even says he doesn't pay attention to politics and just watched CNN. Never thought that song did the world trade center tragedy any justice, its like he just wanted to make money off of it. just like he does with gospel music now. He's such a jerk in real life.
@@melodyprince65 he didn't make any money off of it, he donated all proceeds to what would become the 9/11 fund. The song must not be too elementary unless you're not smarter than a fifth grader because, you didn't get him. When he said he wasn't paying attention to politics, heard what was going on, watched the news to find out what was going to happen. Ignorance is bliss
Odd, did this video like read my mind!? I was just wondering how well or bad I did on Saturday. I hadn't tried singing this for others since I posted a video on my old acct... Over 10 yrs ago. I'm not a vet whatsoever but this song always moves me. I was trying to not choke up at the end when singing it Sat. This song and your reaction, ❤ made me cry. It brought back feelings if fear that I'd loose my uncle. Made me think of my late classmate, a Marine. 22untilnone
Navy vet here. Thank you for your service Billy, and to all the other active and past service members. I was watching when Tim sang this song live at the ACM awards in 2007 and knew I bawled like a baby then and every time I've heard it since.
My father is a Marine & I’m from a long line of military....this is one of the hardest service/related songs for me to listen to. Thanks for your reaction.
you gotta react to Travelling Soldier by The Dixie Chicks also need to react to That's What Brothers Are For by Dean Brody they will both have Billy so emotional.
Dearest Billy I want to thank you for your service to our great country. I am the wife of a veteran who luckily made it home but every time I listen to one of these songs I still tear up. It makes me sad that our country is so divided and people are attacking everyone. I pray everyday we can find our way. God bless you and god bless America.
If a song can bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eyes, then the writer and singer have done their job to leave a lasting memory in your soul you will always remember. Great song and video.
Billy I just want to say thank you. Not only for your service but also for this channel. I know that you're a family man, and it takes a good while to film and edit these videos. They mean a lot to me and your other subscribers. Your reactions are beautiful because you relate to these songs on a level that civilians never will. Thank you.
1st time I've seen your reactions. This is a tough song for any vet, especially those of us who have lost brothers/sisters. Great job and thank you for your service too.
I've commented on your other vids today. Old vet here. This song gets me too. Shoulder to shoulder brother. Was homeless for two years. Got help from the VA. Good react. Ty for serving.
I felt this song so damn much, while I was in Kuwait and Afghanistan, I had 4 good friends from my unit get killed. 1 from suicide, 2 from an IED, and one of our scouts was shot. Bless all those who lost their lives, we will continue fighting everyday for you. Your sacrifice, will never be forgotten my friends, and I’m both destroyed and proud at your funerals.
My dad was in the Air Force, and I’m so proud of him he’s passed now But I want to thank each and everyone of you that have served and those still serving Thank you so much for your sacrifices.
Love your videos Billy! I’m emotional here with ya. God bless all our vets! Another great song to listen to is “ Holy Water” By Big n Rich...it’s emotional but shines a needed light.
Thank you for your service to everyone who has ever served in the military . I have family on both sides of my family (mom and dad's family) that has served in Army, Marines and Air Force. God bless you for what you have done and the sacrifices youve made for us to live in a free country. Freedom isn't free. 🇺🇸 🙏 ❤️
I’m just getting into seeing reactions and I’m a spouse of a retired soldier and daughter of a retired soldier. My husband has 2 Purple Hearts a bronze star and silver star. He had 7 soldiers die from his company and he was with each one when they died. That’s how he got those medals. So this song really gets me.
My husband said one of his best moments was tearing up the letter that he wrote to me as soon as his plane touched down. My hubs is a second generation combat vet, and my dad is third generation. God bless you and all vets out there.
I'm sorry for the loss of your BIA, I know it's a difficult pill to swallow. Thank you for your gentle spirit and deep heart, you are a special man Billy and you aren't so crazy!
Watching you react and wipe your eyes to this song had me bawling more than I usually do when I really listen to this song. I’ve known this song since I was little, but I still get emotional listening to it.
Thank you for your channel, your emotional honesty and most of all for your service to this country...We all owe you and all who served a debt we can never repay..I come from a family with over 24 members who served all the way back to my grandfathers.
Thank you for your service. I cant imagine how listening to this feels, this song gives me chills still everytime even worse live at a concert. Even though the words are never enough, thank you so much for the sacrifices you made to keep us safe and fight for this country.
I served from 2013 to 2021, deployed twice, Iraq and syria. Iraq we lost 2 outstanding men to our M777A2 howitzer backfiring on us. Lost a third 6 months after to a bike accident. I miss them fuckers so much man. Much respect to you and and the veterans, past, present, and future. Till Valhalla men. AIRBORNE, ALL THE WAY.🇺🇲🇺🇲🫡🫡❤️❤️
I normally do not watch reaction videos but when I came across your channel I gave pause and had to watch. Thanks you for your service. Hubby is a vet, my grandfather was a vet and alot of my husband's family are vets. I get emotional every-time I hear this song.
hey brother. Vet here as well. Were the two that were taken and later killed from your unit as well? I sent a death letter as well. I had sent it to my mayor of my own town. I personally picked up and was happy to do so. He was really happy to see me pick it up rather than deliver it to my family. Much love brother.
From one Vet to another… Thank you for your service. Tim delivered this 🎶 in a major way! I am so proud to come from a military family, my husband is a retired Vet and his family is also military our families have been involved in the Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War to name a few. I cry my eyes out every time I hear this song.
Billy, you are one of the first you tube channels I subscribe to. My grandpa was deployed to Pearl Harbor right after it happened and was a submarine chaser. He is 96 now and has demintia, but short story is he would never talk about what happened back then but with his demintia he has started talking about more, and for what all you veterans went through, all of you are amazing. Thanks for your service and your honest reactions. I am going to show my grandfather this video. Thanks again
Billy, thank you for your service and sacrifice. I know that you are think UK ng of your fallen brothers and sisters as you listened to this song. And I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling. I wasnt n in the service but alot of my family is. We all thank you for all you and your friends have done for us all. Thank you. God Bless you.
I know this song isn't for vets my uncle died 10 years ago. His song he loved in his ten year battle to cancer was live like you are dying tim Mcgraw hearing that song still drives me crazy and makes me cry. But this song def has gotten to me.
Billy, I found your reaction videos today and I have loved them. As a fellow veteran I can attest to those letters. I was in the Air Force as an enlisted aircrew member on KC-135's. I can say there were times when you would right a letter saying all the things you wanted your family to know and you would give it to someone on another aircraft or with ground crew. While we did not go into harms way like our fighters and bombers did our planes were old and we did go places to refuel those guys that would shouldn't have gone. Those letters were always hard to write because it was like writing your own obituary. this song the first time I heard it had me in tears for 30 minutes and I still to this day tear up. I have lost friends on one that crashed in Finland in January of 1999. Their letters made it home.
I really feel bad for you having to live through these songs. I know how they make me feel, I can only imagine how real it must be for you. I was privileged one time to watch a fallen soldier taken off a plane at the airport and as I watched the other soldiers salute and this solder's family there to watch, I couldn't control myself. I cried off and on all the way to my destination.
Proud active duty Air Force here, but I know it’s the ones out there on the frontline that are doing what it takes to make it back home and keep our country free, thank you for your service man
At the awards show where he performed this song, there was not a dry eye in the house and he received a long, long standing ovation. If you are still reacting and haven't done so, please react to More Than a Name On A Wall by the Statler Bros.
Billy from the bottom of my heart thanks again for your service and your family for letting you find your way. My daddy was in the Navy he was a Navy medic in Vietnam went back 3 times lost so many friends from war and other things you are definitely not the same person who you were when you sign your life way. My daddy was in for 27 years was one of the highest racking officers you can be on a ship. He passed away this may I still have everything he ever gave but his letters are the most important love you man and thank you for your service
Ok Billy, new subscriber here. I've literally been binging your chan since this morning when you popped in recommended. I LOVE country and have since I was a kid in the 80's. I have been singing with every single one of these songs because some of then I haven't heard in years. Now, as a parent married to a veteran *after he got out so I'm not claiming anything like what military spouses went through dealing with deployments and service* I love your sincerity listening to these songs that are newly ripping my heart open. Thank you for your service, perseverance and your heart. BYSE is awesome so don't ever worry about apologizing to the whiney butts who say they don't like him. Sometimes we have to be raw and open with each other to make progress. ❤💙❤💙❤💙
Roll Call brother, been there way to many times. Great videos brother. This song makes me tear up every time I hear it, because it brings me back to brothers who gave it all. 1st cav here.
I'm a an AF vet sent to Serbia and I lost a brother from a UN unit from up north. I had to go see the family after I got out. Thank you for serving. Billy, you so cool.
Thank you Billy for all you. Your inspiring and I really enjoy watching you react to music. You show your true self and can be emotional when others can't. I'm a new fan been following you for one month now and I'm glad I stumbled on to your videos.
I'm an Air Force vet and in CAP so we do a lot of memorial ceremonies at veteran cemeteries. When the play tap's with the bag pipes. I lose it. Dress blues and tears running down my face. Thank you for your service.
Oh Billy you are killing me, just watched your Davis Ball reaction now this, I am crying like a baby! My current honey is active duty Navy, so proud of him. Ex father in law retired Army, taps at his funeral, killed everyone!
This video earned my subscription to your channel. Thank you for putting yourself out there like this. Thank you for giving music to wouldn't normally listen to a chance. God bless you and thank you for your service.
Thank you for your service. May your friend RIP. He paid the ultimate price. Freedom is not free. I have many family members that served. Truly appreciate all serving and have served. God bless you all.
This is the first time I’ve seen your channel and I’m enjoying it immensely. I am one of 10 kids and an army brat, I have every branch in my family except coast guards. My dad was 21 years army. My uncle was 37 years Air Force another uncle was 12 years marine, my brother was army. My husband and my son were both Navy so I’m not an army. I’m a Navy wife. I’m a Navy mom and not just the soldiers that serve. It’s the families as well when my husband was in I had two small babies 14 months apart and when he got out, I had my third son, the kids so young they still knew their daddy wasn’t there and it was still hard on them and it’s hard to explain to a 14 month old and a two month old daddy’s not home so I always wonder. Yes the vets deserve the recognition and the thanks, but the Wise and kids a lot of times are forgotten, I want to thank you for your service and if I ever see you out in public and you’re wearing one of your military hats or you’re in uniform, I will stop you and shake your hand and thank you for your service and also if you had a restaurant, I will buy your dinner. I’ve done it for years and years, whether it be That are retired in the military that goes for police fireman anyone who put their lives on the line and if I see him, I will pay for their dinner or you at least thank them if nothing else and I will not tolerate anyone being disrespectful to my hearing or me seeing it, I will just jump down their throat so fast they won’t know what hit. I’m fixing to be 64 in April and a lot of people think that’s just an old lady no it’s not because this old lady grew up with 10 brothers and sisters and I’ll still put you on your ass if you’re rude to a vet.
Billy, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service. Thank-you for your heartfelt reaction whether it's Billy theocracy of Billyyousoemotional. A fan of both versions of you!
I met my wife when we were both active duty Air Force in 1990. We were both Supply at the time. She got out after getting pregnant and I stayed 24 years. She passed away in 2014 from Cancer. I was crying along with you, Billy.
Well, I want to thank you for using a lyric video. I have some problems with my hearing so being able to read the lyrics helps. Thank you for reacting to this song. God bless you and keep you Billy.
Thank you for your service from a fellow veteran. I was active duty army as well for 8 yrs and two tours in Iraq. I like your channel battle. I lost 3 of my good friends on December 25, 2006. When I got word that they got killed. We just got back from a 24 hour mission outside the wire. I know what you mean about the memorial service for them three great men. I balled my eyes out when I stood in front of their pics and their gear. I could barely hold my salute steady. God bless ya brother
Thank you and to all your fellow brothers in arms for all you have done and are doing for this country. May god watch over you all and keep you safe. If you are deployed may god keep you in his hands and protect you.
From a vet from the 70s, I am proud of you! Thank you for your service, but most of all, thanks for being my hero.
😮
Thank you, both. America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲 Strong ❤❤

Is this just a marine thing or do other branches do this before deploying?
@UCl3LJDgwvkGE0Ha9vFT8V_w I guess I wrote one of these after a couple close calls on my motorcycle so I'm glad I'm not excluded from the group
Welcome home Marine, thank you for your service. I'm glad to hear that letter was burnt instead of read. God Bless
I would love to be your friend

When you hear that 21 gun salute, you don't have to know the person, but you know they are putting another soldier in the ground.

Sir Thank you for your service. And all veterans. 🇺🇸
you gotta react to Travelling Soldier by The Dixie Chicks
also need to react to That's What Brothers Are For by Dean Brody
they will both have Billy so emotional.
YES! I love Traveling Soldier! Been a hot second since I heard it though
I agree you should react to these two
It's just called Brothers fyi in case he does react so he can find it. I love that song
Tony Wilkins 🙄
@Tony Wilkins what did they do?
Best reaction to this song
Heard it a million times and I cry every time just as much as the first time.
If a song can bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eyes, then
the writer and singer have done their job to leave a lasting memory in
your soul you will always remember. Great song and video.
Thank you so very much to all of our brave vets. You are the real heros and the back bone of our nation.
Omg I'm sobbing. LOVE OUR MILITARY. I GOT A MARINE DUE HOME SOON. 🇺🇲❤️🇺🇲
Thanks Billy for being Real!
God Bless you Billy! sending hugs!
That last verse gets me every time....one of the best written songs ever.
this song always makes me cry.
Billy your reaction is real. I appreciate your honest emotions. Thank you for your service and May God Bless you.
Much love for you, brother. Did 18 years in both the Navy and the Army. After 5 deployments, there is definitely a greater appreciation for life.
Your emotional reactions to these videos are making your channel one of the very BEST, on youtube, thank you Billy for keeping it real!
Thank you all the vets I appreciate it especially since I am a passivit and you allow people like me lead the lives that they want to live
AIRBORNE, ALL THE WAY.🇺🇲🇺🇲🫡🫡❤️❤️
CANT BELEAVE ONLY 1 REPLY THANK YOU SIR
I never done service and this song chokes me up everytime I hear it
I normally do not watch reaction videos but when I came across your channel I gave pause and had to watch.
With all my heart l thank you for your service. You guys and gals in the service are prayed for by many and thot of often.
Thank you for your service and sacrifices. Thank you also for the true emotions, of your reactions. God Bless!!!
It is your emotionality that we love about you, Billy. You are real, and we can tell it. So many people just go through the motions.
Just watched this and you have a new subscriber. Beautiful and heart wrenching song.
Proud active duty Air Force here, but I know it’s the ones out there on the frontline that are doing what it takes to make it back home and keep our country free, thank you for your service man
God bless you son. Tough song to get through. Bless all our veterans around the world.
GOD bless you billy and thank you for your service. Stay soft of heart and humbled in spirit.
Almost 78K!!! CONGRATS I’m 16 and I love country music, and I especially love watching your reactions!!! Thanks 🙏
New sub here! Thank you for your service from the bottom of my heart. I can never begin to understand what all the veterans have been through.
Thank you for everything you are and have done and will do
My best friend died in Iraq and this song reminds me of him. Thanks for ur service brother
From one Texan to another, thanks for your service and keep doing what you’re doing! Love your videos!
I'm an Air Force vet and in CAP so we do a lot of memorial ceremonies at veteran cemeteries. When the play tap's with the bag pipes. I lose it. Dress blues and tears running down my face. Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your Service from one Veteran to another
Oh Billy you are killing me, just watched your Davis Ball reaction now this, I am crying like a baby! My current honey is active duty Navy, so proud of him. Ex father in law retired Army, taps at his funeral, killed everyone!
That was David Ball

Thank you for your service. May your friend RIP. He paid the ultimate price. Freedom is not free. I have many family members that served.
Truly appreciate all serving and have served.
God bless you all.
Thank you for your service! Love your reactions
I just want to say THANK YOU for your SERVICE..
Thank you for your service. God Bless your Buddy
