Gout sufferer here. I had Kidney function of 48 about ready to go on Dialysis. I started taking Corcyceps 4 grams in the morning and 4 grams in the afternoon and 3 months later my Kidney function was at 117...the Dr said I had the kidney function of a teenager and I am in my 50's. And I was doing Keto eating eggs, beef, cheese, and during that time I had not a single gout attack.
Nice... I assume you meant Cordyceps. Was there any particular type of Cordyceps you were taking?
Hello dear, which cordeceps do you use? Thank you
It is worth trying.
Thank you for sharing this!
Guys I looked it up in dic some how could not find something called cordyceps or cordeceps as well as corcyceps:)
What is this?
I read Dr Perlmutter’s book about a month ago and purchased a UA meter. I started at 15.8! Started vit C, lots of water and other recommendations I found in the book. After two weeks I was down to 11.1. As of today….measured 7.2. I never eat high fructose and I’ve started on a lower carb diet. Thank you so much. No gout attacks since I’ve made these changes
which book did you go through ?
Which meter did u get?
Did you quit fruit as well?
AUA meter? I never knew such a thing exists, I mean at a cost feasible with out getting a part time job to save for it.
I just finished Drop Acid!
This is such a great reference book, I would encourage everyone to buy it, keep it in the kitchen, and re-read it over and over, like a bible.

I went to the bookstore, and told many people.

Thank you for this information!
This Dr.'s book changed my life for the better. I'm referring to his book, "Grain Brain" which I read in 2012. And as someone who has suffered horrible gout - until I got off of fructose two years ago - I am more than excited to read this new book, Drop Acid.
Grains are not human foods. Grains were created by the creator for birds. Those who eat lots of grains will have a bird brain.
Be careful and do your homework. I have read that as we age, we develop too much alkaline and need more acidity. Fact check that from reliable sources. I believe it was either Dr. Mark Hyman (MD) or Dr. Sten Ekberg (DC) who stated this.
Rubbish
I eat about 1/2 avocado with lemon squeezed on it, and about 1/2 cucumber every day. My ears quit ringing. My blood pressure is significantly lower. My legs are lighter. My scale tends to go down.
Great! that is really good news
I have ringing ears...will try this!!
Thanks for sharing!
I like to add salt to both my cucumber and avocado.
Why does it help with tinnitus
I ate a low purine plant based diet for 9 years cutting fructose and absolutely no HFCS. No hard alcohol and no beer. Only an occasional glass of red wine. My UA never dropped below 7.2 however my triglycerides were always around 200 HDL 29 and total cholesterol around 175. No gout flares. I lost weight especially muscle mass. Fast forward now I am ketovore two years now. UA still 7.2 however triglycerides

@@beniirama4076 actually my kidney function per the numbers is more stable than it was plant based. I don't pretend to have the answers all I know is what is working for me for my genotype. I truly believe we all have to listen to our. bodies make changes to our diet according to our environment, age and energy output. To be 100% honest I love eating grains especially whole grains. I used to eat oatmeal every morning I used to bake artesian breads, I made my own sourdough starter and I love pasta, if my body tolerated those carbohydrates I would still be eating a diet with lots of "healthy grains" as the American Heart Association labels them. I truly feel better on my ketovore diet. I eat a lot of different types of meat compared to most. My meat rotation consist of 4 different types of wild caught fish (fish everday), grain and grass finished beef, pasture raised pork, wild boar, venison, bison, elk, lamb and pasture raised heirloom chicken. Additionally there is some beef and bison tongue, heart and liver thrown in 3 to 4 times a month plus lots a free range organic eggs daily. Fortunately my body tolerates dairy in the form of butter, cheese and naturally strained Greek Yogurt. I limit my veggies to the ones I tolerate such as onions, garlic, avocados, tomatoes, chilies, some greens, limited cruciferous and legumes so my diet does not meet the definition of carnivore. If I eat certain vegetables and my body reacts I pay attention to that. I fully expect as I age my diet will need modifications.
Great series! Thank you for your series!
for those that are on Ace inhibitors for Heart related conditions and blood pressure there is research that these increase uric acid levels by about 25 - 30% so this may be an avenue to explore with your Dr....
Combined with Glycine and taurine I got mine below 5.5. I tested daily and did a few hacks. When I’m between 5.5 and 7… my psoriasis is calm. When I hold it below 5.5… it’s cleared by 50% within 2weeks.
It really helped me was testing my UA on arising. When we tested it mid day, it was 7.4 and 8.4, but as soon as I tested it on arising, it was 4.5 both times, 2 weeks apart, and even after eating fruit freely.
Excellent thank your guys

Thank you Richard, very interesting, quercetin seems have so many benefits.
Hi Thanks Mark!
Great for allergies too!
Yes, it is a zinc ionophore. When zinc is deficiently supplied dietarily, it cannot take its all important part in many protein formations, and gets substituted for, making the protein mis-fold and become dysfunctional. The body thought it had made a needed protein, but did not. Zinc needs a carrier, an ionophore, to move into a cell from outside, in order to get to the site of proteins being made. Quercetin is a good ionophore. Part of the reason that the toxic metal lead is so toxic to many physiologic pathways is that it often substitutes for the zinc, making the protein not work because it mis-folds.IMHO
Thank you for the video
I thought I had a blood clot, or possibly a fracture in my foot. It's beginning to look like gout. ACK! Glad I found this.
I thought I had a fracture as well. The swelling got so bad it caused tendonitis. It's been over a year, two specialists, a cortisone shot, a boot and fear of never being able to walk without pain until my dad had me take ONE indomethacin pill. The drastic change led me to reading more about uric acid and how to reduce it naturally. My UA bloodwork came back at 4.5 after I had taken the indomethacin. I believe it was higher but cleared enough out to appear normal on the bloodwork. Finding out 4.5 is close to high for a woman (according to the good Dr.) I plan to keep working on UA reduction and clearing, as well as dietary changes. Tart cherry juice, turmeric and dandelion have been a huge help. Good luck!

Hi Terry, Thanks for sharing. Yes it does seem to!
Thank you for this great channel . Ive suffered from gout for 10 years. Ive never taken allopurinol and have managed to reduce my UA naturally (stopped drinking alcohol, taken Vit C , drank lots of water, keto diet , quercitin) But lately Ive been getting lots of gout attacks again. I'm thinking of starting allopurinol.
Are there any side effects to taking allopurinol ? I have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and had a mild fatty liver , so I didn't want to put too much stress on my liver.
Short interview but big on answers.
Plums, chilly peppers onions are rich in quercetin
I take large dose of tart cherry to stop gout. Works!
Thanks you David for lovely research and sharing it for free. My physican has 20 years of experience but seems like he is waste of space.
I'm dealing with gout from substituting Xylitol alcohol sugar for cane sugar over Thanksgiving through New Years. After-the-fact, I discovered that Xylitol increases the occurrence of gout about 800% over sucrose. Unfortunately, Quercetin reduces activity of my leukemia medicine 55-65% in the CYP3A4 liver pathway.
Thats qnother good good thing on the markets
Thx
I wish he spoke more clearly. Some of the foods he mentions, it's hard to tell if he is saying they produce uric acid or they reduce it.
Again - yeast is used in the fermentation of wine, just as much as in beer. That argument for purines in beer doesn't stand up. I'd reason that beer is fermented with the whole grain (malted wheat/barley) + hops in the must. Wine is fermented grape *juice* and the fruit pulp is not included in the fermentation must. I don't know off hand if the fructose in grape juice is also part of the fermentation process but as it doesn't trigger uric acid production I'd say that it is fermented along with any glucose. It would be interesting know where cider (UK alcoholic type) fits in this hierarchy.
How about answers to people's questions? If we take the time to watch and post, the person who created this video should be monitoring the comments and responding. Just saying. No trolls please!

How often do you eat ?
Take supplements forever
I need to call my doctor. I have had Gout for decades, but haven’t paid much attention to UA levels because I take Allopurinol and have had no gout attacks in over 10 years.
So after listening to this, I pulled out the copy of my last bloodwork to see what the Uric acid level was, and it said, ‘None found.’
Normally that would sound good to me but after listening to Dr. Perlmutter I did some research and you can have too low Uric Acid levels that can cause problems too.
I have to believe the None Found means they didn’t test for Uric Acid. And if not I want to know why not for a gout patient on Allopurinol?
How much allopurinol do you need to take each day, about to start taking them
On a lab report 'none found' usually means any levels measured were below the lower limit of detection of the method. It doesn't mean that the test wasn't performed.
@@Geetarhed ….Sorry, I didn’t see your question until now. They have me take two 100mg tablets daily.

What about nutritional yeast? Will it raise the purines?
That was confusing when he said 'all in'. That means that drinking coffee, and to a lesser extent tea is GOOD and lowers the acid right?
Yes, but skip the added sugar.
What aboit celery? Heard good for xo inhibitor as well
I've been taking Quercetin for over 6 months now...it's a panacea for a lot of things
What good effects do you notice after taking Quercetin regularly?
One thing he said that surprised me is that Allopurinol also lowers high blood pressure and improves metabolic function. Then he said the Quercetin, Vitamin C and Luteolin combo ‘almost’ lowers Uric Acid as well as Allopurinol.
If Allopurinol lowers uric acid better than the natursl supps, and provides added benefits like lower blood pressure and improved metabolic function….then why not just stick with Allopurinol?
Many people prefer to go the non-pharmaceutical route if equal or better results are possible
@@KobeDirkMelo …I do too. But the key words are ‘equal or better.’ He described these as ‘almost as well.’
I will be finding out what my UA level is in the next two weeks. I am on allopurinol now and if it’s above 5, I might cut the allopurinol in half and try these natural solutions. Then on the next bloodwork in 6 months if it has gone down then just switch entirely.

^those natural supplements wont be as potent as allopurinol. some might bring risk to kidney, while allopurinol itself bring risk for the liver. that is why you better have a blood check first, for your kidney functions (ureum, creatine, egfr, and if possible, acr) and your liver function (sgot, sgpt). if all good, and you want to lower your uric acid fast, better choose allopurinol. if you choose the natural herbs, you have to combinw it with restrictive gout diet also (avoid red meats, sweets, certain fruits, alcohol and processed food that mostly rich in sodium and added refine sugar)
@@beniirama4076 fruit doesn’t raise uric acid and red meats are blamed way too often. People don’t have gout these days from red meat, they have it from the refined carbs and sugars. If you were to correct the insulin resistance that virtually all gout sufferers have, then uric acid would be properly excreted, (high insulin blocks uric acid excretion). Doing this is already a better solution than Allopurinol, especially for younger people like myself. However Allo is still a necessity in the cache of gout treatment.
Cut sugar out
Is there a list of the luv diet foods to eat and avoid? Thank you for your time. Very informative.
I think you have to buy the book for that. Lol.
I think you’re right buddy
What means "all in"? Allowance to consume or prohibition? "All in" restriction list maybe?
I understand that to mean you can have them
So many unanswered questions. ascorbic acid is sold as Vit C but does it work the same to remove uric acid?
Thank you both for the interview! Just ordered the book.
A gout attack began just over 24 hours ago, so as one does, I began searching once again for solutions.
I've ordered Luteolin as well.
Quercetin was available locally at my pharmacy, so I got that and have taken 1 gram right away and another gram 7 hours after that just before bed. It's been 17 hours since the first dose and the flare up has stopped and the swelling is over 50% gone. It is far less painful at the site when pressed, which is amazing, as typically it is extremely painful to touch for several days. It usually gets worse for a few days, to the point I can barely walk, even on a decent dose of pain meds.
For an acute attack, this has worked wonders. The goal of course is to Drop Acid permanently and not need acute therapy again. Just my experience.

Is Perlmutter unaware wine is fermented with yeast as well? I'm thinking it may be more filtered though.
I do not drink any alcohol. I think that with the side effects of it and the damage it does to brain cells, any alcohol is best avoided. That's my opinion. My late husband's dr. told him it was okay to have a few beers, but my husband was an alcoholic and he took that to mean he could keep drinking a case of it every week. ( told the dr how much he drank but the dr ignored me )So, it's not a good idea for dr's to promote drinking alcohol. Oh, my late husband died at 44. My nieces dr told her it was okay to have a glass of wine now and then, but she drank so much of it she ended up a diabetic. My late brother in law drank hard liquor, he would have black outs ended up going blind, had diabetes. Dr's have to understand that most people are alcoholics with their drink of choice, and none of it is good for the body really. All people hear when a Dr says anything about any alcohol being good for them is that they can continue drinking what they want. All forms of it is highly addictive and people in the USA certainly are keen on it to get them through life. Most people will never admit to be an alcoholic, again because the are one. So I'd really like to see Dr's be smart and stop saying any alcohol is good.
@@gb7168 I have known that since I was young. I observed how people behaved when drinking, it was horrible. People here glorify drinking. They are creating cancer and all the diseases that they later expect sympathy for. Man kinds ignorance is killing them off. And if a doctor assumes telling people the truth about alcohol will turn them off, then that is not a good doctor.
@@MargueriteFairProductions well said. Sometimes I wish Doctors are frank in voicing their opinion.
I've seen studies that basically measure gout incidence amongst drinkers, and for some reason wine is not associated with an increase in gout incidents (and UA levels). There's something in the wine that balances it out. It matches what he says about the wine > liquor > beer hierarchy.
@@rockjianrock Yeah that's what my niece thought, she developed diabetes from drinking wine. The body does not like alcohol. Problems will develop. That is what they are discovering about Alzheimer's. This is a very unhealthy country, probably 8 out of 10 people are alcoholics. Not just about gout. Heart disease, liver damage and cancer. You young people don't understand that cancer is not normal and should not exist. People are doing it with their dies and booze intake. Doesn't matter what form the booze is in dear. I'm 74 I have seen what alcohol does. It is not pretty.
Anyone know why podcast this is?
What are the uric acid lowering foods? I heard tart cherries, but what else do you recommend outside of supplements?
Hi thanks for the question. In the book Dr Perlmutter has recipes and details of foods. A lot of it is avoiding the causes of uric acid, but the lowering ones that he mentions are broccoli sprouts and coffee. He does list other foods, cruciferous veges, whole fruits, healthy fats such as olive oil, limited grass fed meat but does not explicitly say that they lower UA. I found lemon juice triggers my acid reflux. That lemon juice turns basic once it reaches the stomach does not reflect in my experience. Have extremely small quantities of apple cider vinegar.
LUTIENOL?
Help! I do everything you say including Alipurinol and my Uric Acid goes up and gout gets worse. Does anyone have any other ideas.
what you eating?
Hasansvideoz keto. High fat, moderate protein and low carb.Moderate amount of meat and salad. 0 processed foods or sweeteners.
stress and sleep less&late helps uric acid goes up too. everyday try to eat one of fruit apple, banana, pineapple. also celery or raw papaya helps much.
@@TexarkanaPrepper I'm doing a Carnivore diet predominantly, but not my first rodeo with gout. Unfortunately gout will punish you for doing the right things too, like exercise and weightloss in my experience. However in my experience the gout attacks will eventually subside if you stick to low carb, zero fructose diet, and moderate exercise until you get to a healthy weight and your body is able to eliminate all stores of uric acid deposits in tissues and organs and then serum levels will stabilize to new low normal range.
I just ordered a test kit off Amazon to check my own blood levels of uric acid daily, and a blend of Quercetin to help lower UA as well.
Chas von Platten yes, I’m experiencing the same. It took about 9 months after I reached a healthy weight for it to clear out.
Ursolic Acid works better than Luteolin and Quercetin. Granted, they are both good for the integrated stress response.
Is found in rosemary leaf extract
How to get it?
@@loreleifajardo2430 Rosemary extract, usually. Rosemarinic Acid contained within it, is good, too.
Source that Ursolic is better? Haven't heard that.
@@darkhorseman8263 what is ursolic acid?? I want to know.. Did you try allopurinol?
I just happened upon Cialis for circulation or ED , I’m 70 years old and need to know what dosage I need ?

Quercitin bioflavinoid vit c laviolin
Eat red onions
Is it possible to associate allopurinol and quercetin in order to lower uric acid ?
Maybe they would lower it too low. I read online that too low Uric Acid levels can cause health problems too. One study found that every MS patient they tested had hypouricemia…
@@mountainman4859 Of course it is necessary to control the uric acid level, but from 5.9 to 3.5 there is a long way to go. At 5 I will reduce the dosage of Allopurinol. Another problem is that I am taking even aspirin and quercetin can make it work stronger, so I will have to reduce the aspirin dose as well.
I took 500mg of quercetin and it made zero deference in my UA in fact it went up 9.1 to 10.1
@@EverydaySupernatural Talk to your doctor because it is too high.
That seemed a bit short. What about the vegetables to eat? Or did I miss that?
