Dilution is not the solution to the pollution. Take away the cause of the accumulation. The major cause of gout caused by uric acid is the breakdown of fructose, not meat and seafood. The consumption of fructose has been going up right along with the incidence of gout. People who go on Carnivore way of eating get rid of their gout pain despite eating only meat and seafood. Cut out the sugar, juice, and sweet fruits. Also, when you eat a lot of any carbohydrates at one time, the liver needs to get rid of the glucose fast and converts a lot of it to fructose via the polyol pathway, resulting in more uric acid. Lactose is an equal amount of glucose and galactose, so skim milk is also going to raise glucose levels. Better to drink whole milk or have heavy cream in your coffee. Keeps blood glucose lower and gives fat soluble vitamins A,D, and K2 as well. Sucrose (table sugar) is 50:50 glucose and fructose. High fructose corn syrup is 48:52 not much different, so avoid both. Another cause of gout is oxalate crystals. Unless a sample is taken from a joint and special processing and staining done, you won't know if it is one or both types of crystals. Oxalate crystals can form anywhere in the body causing pain. It was the cause of decades of fibromyalgia for me. I have been drinking green tea daily for years . Recently I added lemon juice every morning as well. I try avoid junk food & yet these few days just started - extreme pain on my big toe & swelling
I used to have episodes of gout at times. Once I thought I’d try a couple of Aleve tabs, just to fight the pain. Not only did it relieve the pain, it healed the swelling as well. It’s been several years, and I haven’t had gout since!
That's interesting - have just had a 4 week bout of Gout, first ever in my life (I'm aged 77) and there is no family history of it as far as I'm aware. I know I don't drink enough and have been on diuretics for over 30 years for mild lymphoedema....2 of the biggest culprits right there! Certainly not a big consumer of any of the foods mentioned - especially not big on sugar. Hope never, ever to experience it again.....excruciatingly painful.
@@gk7908 I was getting gout more often, more severe and lasting longer until I started following a nutritionist on UA-cam. He basically said to stay away from sugars and carbohydrates. I have not only lost weight but I have not had another gout attack. My family had no history of gout.
This is so far the best video I saw about this problem. Your voice is very clear (that is important for people that are not native english speaking people) and it was a very good idea to put subtitles. Very well done.

here are the 5 drinks 1. green tea 2. lowfat skimmed milk 3. lemon water 4. herbal tea (hibiscus, chamomile, lavender) 5. coffee (with skimmes or lowfat milk) hopefully helps. im doing this research for my mother, please pray for her. thank you.
I changed to a Carnivore high fat diet, cutting carbohydrates and suger to zero. No gout and unbelievable improvement in health and losing weight like crazy...no cravings and never hungry..
Good job. my rheumatoid doctor said stop consuming all sugar and eating meat is fine. I was vegetarian for 10 years and it was worse. My uric acid level has dropped below 6 and I am feeling fine now after switching to a carnivore, low carb diet.
But doctor wants us to stay away from red meat. Only a scoop of rice a day. No bread. Only boiled eggs and green vegetables. Sometimes. One banana or kiwi or clementines. Otherwise no man made sweets.
I had my first gout attack a couple of months ago. I’d recently been diagnosed as diabetic so I was eating a low carb diet, so I was mostly eating protein. I’m assuming that may have played a role although I’d followed a similar diet before with no issues. My doctor gave me a prescription for colchicine and it resolved in a few days. I had a brief flare up a couple of weeks later and again took colchicine. A couple of months later, I had pain in the knuckle at the base of my middle finger. My doctor wasn’t convinced it was gout, but it was a similar pain and colchicine helped. Finally, I had an attack in my ankle. I suffered for a couple of days before getting a refill of colchicine and icing my ankle. It took about week to feel better. I’ve been taking tart cherry capsules and limiting high purine proteins. If I have another flare up, I guess I’ll see a rheumatologist. Im going to try some of these suggested beverages as well although I don’t drink coffee.
Fructose is the single biggest contributor to uric acid levels, not purines. Michigan Foot Doc should read Richard Johnson, MD book "Nature Wants Us To Be Fat" and David Perlmutter, MD book "Drop Acid" for the most up-to-date perspective on the subject. Recommended drinks presented here are very good advice, but missed the most effective one: apple cider vinegar. It works indirectly by smoothing out blood sugar spikes, slowing fructose absorption. The sugar allulose does wonders as well.
So if what you say is true..why I'm I stuck in bed with left knee flare up and left foot flare up after consuming Walmart Great Value chicken nuggets? Which had no fructose. I find fructose and purine impact gout flares..and hidden yeast extract in processed food. Fructose is not sole culprit. At least in my case.
@@moondrop3013 well I don't deep fry things at all never have. So if I don't air fry and I don't deep fry what would be the alternative? You didn't support your position for not using an air fryer.
Dear Dr Biernacki! I've been suffering from pain in my ankle and foot for more than a year, once my right foot and once my left foot. I thought about gout syndrome but the thing is, the big toe joint doesn't hurt at all! Never! More painful on the outside of the foot and/or ankle. The pH level in the blood is relatively high (around 7.5), but how can you know for sure that it is gout syndrome? The painful area is indeed swollen, reddish and hot. The pain also "moves" to the area under the foot, but not always. It's changing.
Hello Dr Biernacki, is it common to have gout for the first time, after a long surgery, under anesthesia? If it is, does it usually go away after healing from surgery?
I start the day with a large glass of water with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of tart cherry juice. Try to stay away from all types of sugar and carbohydrates.

I just got over uric acid build up in ankle from eating turkey tails. I drank 16 ounces of water with about 2 ounces of lime juice in it. A few minutes later I could actually feel the discomfort disappear completely. It only lasted about an hour before some of the discomfort returned but it was very effective for me. BTW, I do have some liver issues going on so that’s probably why I had the uric acid buildup from the meat.
Interesting and thanks. My uric acid in Jan 2022 was 396. No gout but had lots of joint pain in toes/feet. In Jan 2024 had first major gout flare up. Reading was 351. Strange how less but it flared up. Now on allopurinol and for 2 months had strange sensations in both feet and toes plus on the inside of my knees. Level reduced to 311 after month 1 and now at 296 and told to stay on 200mg a day. But I still have sensations in joints and a numbness in big toes on both feet. Doc just says carry on taking same level of allopurinol. 🤔
The best way for me 1. Stop any protein, sugar, high potassium fruit (to stop the flare up) 2. Drink 3-4 ltrs a day, its better with high ph water 3. One day fasting One day eat 4. Consume high vit c fruit and anti oxidant ....... These method take whole weeks to fully recovery.
Hi, just came across your video. I have two questions. (1) I have acid reflux can I still drink the lemon water for my gout? (2) Can I drink almond milk instead of skim milk as I am lactose intolerant?
I have those issues after spicy nights, avocado, yogurt fage 5 % after or with meal or b4 bedtime works most times. No meds or baking sodas with avocado or FAge
@@sandraparrish3750 acid reflux is not caused by too much acid. It is actually caused by too little. Organic sauerkraut or pickled beets or sour pickles also work. I now periodically eat sauerkraut and my acid reflux never came back
Quick home made fix for gout is 1tsp sodium bicarb with some lemon juice or 1/4 tsp vic c powder in glass of water. Works for me. Don't consume too much lemon juice as this will have a counter effect on gout (my experience)

I was binge eating asparagus from my garden, then ate some herring snacks. I woke up with gout my first time. Reading n researching food n vitamins I found these both can cause this. I drank cranberry juice, took extra vit C and tons of water. Elevated my foot n put a bag of frozen peas on it. It was gone in about 4 hrs. Any dark berries cherries etc along with water n vit C. I still enjoy those foods but in moderation. Cauliflower was also a listed cause.
This makes sense. Cranberry is the go-to for UTI as it is a geat diereric (makes your excessively urinate)...so you put tons of water in you to flush the uric deposits out, and the cranberry hyper-accellerated the unirary process
I find this interesting. I get gout attacks from Spinach, Mushrooms, red meat and beer. Since cutting all of these out of my diet I haven’t had a gout attack.
I completely disagree. Sugar, fructose, high fructose corn syrup and carbohydrates or the number one reason people get gout. It's due to the underlying condition called insulin resistance. On ce your body is not correctly using insulin is where all the trouble starts. Those foods that you're eating that you think are the problem are only causing the problem because of you being backed up with insulin resistance. Check out Dr. Ken Berry on UA-cam. He changed my life. I all the high purine foods that I want and I never have a gout flare up. The only time I've had cow flare-ups after figuring this out is because of too much sugar and carbohydrates.

Hi Dr. Great video. I have been suffering from gout on and off for over 30 years. I take Allipurinol on a daily basis and have completely changed my diet. Unfortunately, 4 weeks ago today, I injured my foot, twisted a ligament and semi broke my 5 th metatarsal. The pain was immense. My Dr. gave me Co Codimal, which bought on the biggest gout attack I think I have ever had. Not on,y did my big toe swell up as usual, but also my heel and my skin showed signs of tophi which even over 30 years, I have never had before. I can’t use Ibuprofen as it has the same chemical in as Aspirin which I also can’t use, as it brings on gout. What pain relief can you recommend? Is paracetamol ok? Or will it be just as bad? R.S.V.P. Thank you, and all the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

This Describes my foot to a T . The past week. Ive been trying to bring down my uric levels. Just when it seems to get better it flares again. I was previously trying to change or watch my diet because of sugars and Carbs i was put on metphormin 5 or 6 months ago but i have to be careful with it. And i drink water and lemon water and certain liquidss. Ive lost maybe 20 30 lbs past 3or 4 months. And right when i was switching jobs about to start my foot did this . I did stump my toe about a month or so ago and was fine for 2 weeks then this happend outta no where , it gets bad, then starts to get better then kinda bothers me again because i have to work. Ive even been ice bathing it to get swrlling down and watching it and propping it up and taking ibuprofen when needed but rarely. But now im thinking it may be trauma to my big toe and knuckle? Along with gout or whatever . I had a similar experince this past year dame spot. But it only lasted 2or 3 days. This time a week . Im 42
Cold compress is not recommend, it crystalize uric acid in affected joint. Hot compress will make more blood flow to affected joint and worsen flare-up
Tart cherry and pineapple including core - these two have been known to treat uric acid along with diet change. My brother had very bad gout that made his knee and foot swell up. His doctor told him to go vegan and that red meat contributed to his gout. Sadly he won't give that up and follow a healthier diet so he takes a pill. I asked him if he looked at long term side affects and he said he didn't care. So health is a choice, you decide to make an effort for a better longer healthier life or you end up with other health issues.
Who should I see when I have a gout attack in my knee? I know i have a uric acid level of 7. I drink lots of water and added coffee. Green Tea did not help me at all. I hardly eat meat and seafood and never consume high fructose corn syrup. I am a diabetic though.
Please be specific with coffee as instant coffee is not a good choice for perople with gout. Brewed coffee with skim milk and no sugar is a healthier choice. And dont forget to drink water after the coffee

Careful! Aleve is very damaging to the kidneys. So much so that you cannot donate a kidney if you've taken it.
I had to stop Aleve and Advil years ago to manage pain in my flare-ups..caused edema for me
my dad gave me his concoction of 1 prednisone and 1 aleve...in 4 hrs I was like kaiser souze at the end of usual suspects lol
For Gout Sufferers, The University of Otago in New Zealand completed a study and found gout more hereditary than food, but yes these do ease symptoms.

Cherries, berries, lemon water, apple cider vinegar, 4 ltrs of water
These helps to recover from Uric acid
Doc .my uric acid is 7. I take my medicine Allopurinol. I try drink green tea. Thanks doc .for advice ..

Gout can present itself anywhere. Even if it’s not in your big toe. Best is to get a diagnosis.
Skim milk is full of lactose (sugar). Unfortunately, the fat was removed so nothing to absorb the sugar. Am I correct?
So helpful, great video. Thank you.
Hello Dr Biernacki, is it common to have gout for the first time, after a long surgery, under anesthesia? If it is, does it usually go away after healing from surgery?
This video makes me realize what food should i avoid. Thank you so much sir..
What about tart cherry juice? I've heard it helps reduce chances of gout.
Yes very helpful.
I start the day with a large glass of water with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of tart cherry juice. Try to stay away from all types of sugar and carbohydrates.
Works for me

I just got over uric acid build up in ankle from eating turkey tails. I drank 16 ounces of water with about 2 ounces of lime juice in it. A few minutes later I could actually feel the discomfort disappear completely. It only lasted about an hour before some of the discomfort returned but it was very effective for me. BTW, I do have some liver issues going on so that’s probably why I had the uric acid buildup from the meat.
You are so awesome, thank you!
Thankyou for this information .
Is raw milk good to consume in subsitute of skim milk?
Interesting and thanks. My uric acid in Jan 2022 was 396. No gout but had lots of joint pain in toes/feet. In Jan 2024 had first major gout flare up. Reading was 351. Strange how less but it flared up.
Now on allopurinol and for 2 months had strange sensations in both feet and toes plus on the inside of my knees. Level reduced to 311 after month 1 and now at 296 and told to stay on 200mg a day. But I still have sensations in joints and a numbness in big toes on both feet. Doc just says carry on taking same level of allopurinol. 🤔
The best way for me
1. Stop any protein, sugar, high potassium fruit (to stop the flare up)
2. Drink 3-4 ltrs a day, its better with high ph water
3. One day fasting One day eat
4. Consume high vit c fruit and anti oxidant
.......
These method take whole weeks to fully recovery.
Which fruits do you eat?

Hi, just came across your video. I have two questions. (1) I have acid reflux can I still drink the lemon water for my gout? (2) Can I drink almond milk instead of skim milk as I am lactose intolerant?
Best thing for stomach acid 😊 1 tablespoon of bio carb of soda in a cup of water 💦 on a empty stomach stir drink acid gone 😊
I have those issues after spicy nights, avocado, yogurt fage 5 % after or with meal or b4 bedtime works most times. No meds or baking sodas with avocado or FAge

How much lemon water should I take a day? And is it juice or slices in my plain drinking water?

Asparagus is another potential gout trigger..me included. Haven't touched asparagus in over 10 years
I find this interesting. I get gout attacks from Spinach, Mushrooms, red meat and beer. Since cutting all of these out of my diet I haven’t had a gout attack.
@@jasontillman7283 all that you mentioned are high purine sources
