This is so far above most death metal bands. Amazing songwriting, well produced, and they did it before most other bands. This album should be as famous as Slaughter of the Soul. Why have I never heard this before? This is so far ahead of its time!!!!
Well Entombed's Left Hand Path is the big, well-regarded classic of this style of death metal, and definitely the most famous, iconic and influential album to come out of the scene. Left Hand Path overshadows most of the other early Swedish death metal releases of this time period. Like an Everflowing Stream is probably the #2 though. Dark Recollections by Carnage is another excellent one, released not long after Left Hand Path. Into the Grave by Grave as well, and Unleashed's Where No Life Dwells and Shadows in the Deep. Though not as well known as the ones I have mentioned, the early Interment demos were also amazing, especially the second one Forward Into the Unknown, which has one of the best sounding drum performances I've ever heard. Bloodchilling Tales by Sorcery is an honourable mention. Then there's Wombbath's Internal Caustic Torments for a different, weirder take on the style.

eu tenho hoje 33 anos. comecei a ouvir death metal na adolescência mas confesso que conhecia pouco, a banda que realmente me puxou pra esse estilo foi cannibal corpse. depois comecei a ouvir muito o death mais atual, extremo, grind etc. Mas há pouco tempo comecei a pegar pra ouvir as lendas: dismember, morbid angel, entombed, obituary. Cara que sensação absurda, era outra pegada, uma era épica!

Definitely sounds like it. Worth pointing out that it's not actually a remaster, but a reissue of the original 1991 master, which sounds far better than the previous remasters which were all brickwalled to hell.
Es gibt wesentlich krasseren Gesang als auf neunzig Prozent dieser Platte. Stellenweise schon fast Thrash Metal. Es gibt Bands die schneller und abwechslungsreicher sind, wenig Blast Beats und schnelle Double Bass. Alles egal! Fällt nicht auf. Ähnlich wie bei dem Unorthodox Meisterwerk von Edge of Sanity, wo mir erst nach zwanzig, dreißig Jahren auffällt, daß es keine Double Bass gibt... weil sie mich jedesmal wieder in ihren Bann zieht. Like an ever flowing stream ist für mich das einzige Dismember Album. Der Sound wurde später klarer; man könnte sagen besser produziert, aber das Feuer war aus. Besser kann ich es nicht ausdrücken (weil ich kein Tontechniker bin) und will es auch gar nicht. Es soll unbeschreiblich bleiben. Dieser Sound! Es brennt ein Feuer. Ich liebe Morbid Angel, aber da gibt es immer Parts, die mir besonders gefallen und manche, die etwas seltsam sind. Hier nicht. Es passt einfach alles. Wie z.B. die Gitarrensoli mit ihrem goldenen Klang und ihrer Melodiösität mit dem Rest kontrastieren, sich aber gleichzeitig als perfekte Ergänzung anschmiegen. Welche pure Death Metal Macht der Gesang (dann doch) entfaltet, bis zu seinem Höhepunkt, dem Finale, dem letzten Refrain von death evocation, bevor... Für mich gab es immer du die Version mit zehn Songs. Erst vor kurzem habe ich erfahren, das es ursprünglich nur acht waren. Das unheilvolle Intro klingt, als wäre es an dem Ort aufgenommen, den das Cover zeigt. Dann geht es los mit einer wahren Hymne. Eigentlich ist override of the overture schon unübertrefflich. Aber dann geht es weiter. Mit jedem neuen Song ein Stück tiefer in die Hölle. Es fließt, wie ein ewiger Fluss aus dem man nie wieder raus will, weil man zu diesem Fluss geworden ist. Endlich angekommen bei in death´s sleep zeigt der Vocaleffect bei den Worten "dust to dust" das pure Böse, den bisher tiefsten Punkt. Dann death evocation, was einen solchen Effekt nicht braucht um zu zeigen, daß es noch tiefer geht. Zur endgültigen Hingabe. Doch das war es noch nicht. Daß Blast Beats vorher kaum gab bekommt jetzt einen Sinn. Die zwei kleinen Stellen am Anfang des Songs wirken böser, als alles zuvor. Man fragt sich: Oh Gott, was kommt JETZT? Ein Schocker. Doppelt so tiefer, komplett unmenschlicher Gesang. Als hätte man das ganze Album den Teufel beschworen und nun antwortet er. Ein bodenloser Abgrund tut sich auf und saugt die ganze Welt hinein. Plötzlich ist es vorbei. Das Album ist zu Ende und man kann gar nicht glauben, daß es nur Musik war... Ich habe like an ever flowing stream kennen gelernt, kurz nachdem es rauskam und doch habe ich kürzlich noch etwas entdeckt. Diese Snare! Sie hat fast melodisch variierende Obertöne. Nur ein Aspekt von einem komplett einzigartigen Klangbild. Ein Detail möchte ich noch hervorheben: Das Gitarrensolo im ersten Teil von "in death´s sleep". Genial wie es sich tonal von unten nach oben aufbaut. Der letzte Ton ist der höchste und bildet somit bereits ein schönes Finale. Die Melodiösität gerät ins Wanken, da der Ton mit Bendings modelliert und von einer dissonanten Akkordfolge der zweiten Gitarre untermalt wird. Damit nicht genug, wird dieser Ton am Ende atonal nach unten verzogen, als perfekte Einleitung für den harten Vocalpart danach. Aber Dismember setzen noch einen drauf. Nach dem eigentlich letzten Ton folgt ein kurzes Chaos, tiefer, aber mit einer fast quitschenden Spitze. Dadurch ist die Überleitung wirklich mehr als vollkommen. Hört diese Platte immer Komplett und mit voller Aufmerksamkeit!

Hella dumb comment. The members from carnage formed dismember. The only real similarity between these guys and entombed is the HM-2 buzzsaw sound, but they have distinctly different styles and musical identity. Both are amazing bands that helped shape swedish death metal.
