Evelyn is a pleasant addition. Thank you for introducing her.
I’ve been curious who she was for a long time since this is my favorite UA-cam channel and I just can’t help but wonder who Andrew has been lucky enough to spend his life with! Not surprised she’s an angel.
Great, but did you guys prop up that table at 12:28, or was it there when you got there?
Beautiful wife, beautiful hike, beautiful cactus flowers and scenery all around. Appreciate you sharing your ventures with us all. ♥️♥️👍👍
Already there
She has a great smile -
MY HUSBAND, WHO IS ALMOST 80, WANTED ME TO SEND A MESSAGE AND LET YOU KNOW HOW MUCH HE ENJOYS YOR ADVENTURES. HE LIVED ON THE TAOS PUEBLO AS A CHILD. AS A TAOS NM ARTIST, HAS PAINTED MANY OF THE ELDERS OF THE NEW MEXICO AND ARIZONA PUEBLOES. HE REALLY APPRECIATES YOUR ATTITUDE OF HONORING THE PAST AND PRESENT AND BELIEVES YOUR SHOW IS A TRUE BLESSING. KEEP EXPLORING AND WE WILL KEEP WATCHING!

Maybe it was easier for her to read.
Evelyn was my wife's name, she passed away at the age of 58, five years ago. ❤ I don't usually watch your videos, but this showed up on my recommended list and I'm glad it did!
Your wife's way of saying Hi! ❤
@@NanaAmySpectreSeeker1111 yes, she does that here and there. It's still an unusual name, so I'm surprised when I see it as often as I have.
@@Brisleep1 I'm happy you know she's there. I have a Spirit Box Communication channel, and I imagine it's awful, not being able to communicate things easily. We treat our deceased like they don't exist anymore (bc we can't see them) but I know they are there.
@@NanaAmySpectreSeeker1111 I did go to your channel, I have no problem seeing her when she's around, visiting me. Thank you for your kind comments.

That one small tree growing out of that small patch of soil is a perfect example of how even in a minimal environment life expresses itself so beautifully and powerfully! God you are AMAZING! ❤️
That tree reminded me of my wife and I going to Volcano National Park in Hawaii. Out in the lava fields you could spot something green growing here and there in that rock. Just enough crack to sprout up a plant.
What a lovely way of expressing a thought. That made me feel so peaceful suddenly. TY 👏🏻👍🏼
Ohhhhh !!!! Evelyn is such a good balance and match for you. Thank you for this opportunity to see you two together.
I too like her along! And, I like that you’re not hiking alone out there!
Such a great team!! & I love how you both seem to have some mountain goat climbing DNA!!!
*Welcome Evelyn! You guys are so goofy together, I love it!*
*I agree the **_Rock Goddess_** @**21:50** isn't ancient, but it's at least ten days of work onsite and way too heavy to import it... so someone hiked out there with tools and carved it in place for an audience that might never visit?*
*More likely it was brought up from the South from someplace near Copán, and carried in hundreds of years ago.*
*There are aspects of the Rock Goddess (like the tree/hair that are very familiar).*
She's good looking, too!
@@1nvisible1,
I have to disagree with you, and it is based upon my experience living through the real hippie days of the 1960s and 1970s with the birth of Earth Day and the artwork from Height Ash-berry and the psychedelic poster art that drove most contemporary artists and their work. There is very little doubt that one of the previous comments was probably correct in estimating that it took someone at least 10 days of fairly steady work to complete and I also concur that I doubt that anyone with any brained would be willing to carry it in/overland as a completed project when they could bring the tools and have an actual “Love In”!
Bro your wife is a real character! Glad you have her with you!
Haha she is!
@@Desert.Drifter 23:0. that head sculpture, the date is on the bottom.. i still think, it was flooded, when those graneries were built, access by boat.. ?..there must be some evidence of corn fields, raws, somewhere..you dont just plant 2 or 3..or were they traded from other areas..plus, wheres the source of arrow heads.?. nothing but sandstone there.

Are you sure it is not old? Modern people my not have the skills. It is what I would call the TREE OF LIFE. Show you photos to men in a university, you already do, thank you for you site.
@Desert drifter's, could that piece of metal on sandstone table be what was used to carve the sand stone head?
My vote is: YES Always bring your Mrs Drifter with you if she is able and wants to go, she always lightens things up and she IS your better half after all.. 😀
I introduced your show to my elderly mom. Her first impression of you was that you probably made a great husband to someone (I think she has a little crush😅). getting to know you through your adventures, I was glad to meet a great pair for you in your wife. She has a beautiful smile and energy. I hope to see her in more of your videos.
She's definitely a keeper, my friend. And I mean that in the most respectful way. I love when my wife travels with me on adventures...it's so much more rewarding and fun!!
I nwould love sharing theses adventures with a loved one, that would be awsome.
No woman, no cry...😩😓😁
Yes, invite Evelyn along again!
You are very blessed to have such a sweet and beautiful companion in life.
I couldn’t agree more.
We're so glad to meet Mrs. Drifter. My wife was a rock climber, ice climber and mountaineer. I was a sea kayaker, now we are mostly sailors. I first discovered the Trek Planner and then your channel. I shared your video's with my wife and now we look forward to watching every new video together. Thank you so much for sharing Mrs. Drifter (Evelyn) with us, she seems great! We look forward to seeing you both again, and again, and.....
As an Artist myself stuck in a wheelchair the past few years, I love watching your hikes and garner some inspiration for new paintings. Thank you for all the inspiration your hikes bless me with, but this video..., WOW! LOVE that sculpture you found in the middle of all that natural beauty. Nice to see your wife out there enjoying your adventures with you. God bless the two of you.
Dick Zufelt was born on 20 December 1920, in Moab, Grand, Utah, United States and passed in November 2005.

Thank you again for taking me along with you. I really enjoy these trips since I am 75 years of age and have difficulty walking. Seeing the beautiful desert along with you and your wife makes the day worthwhile!
Desert Drifter, you put so much effort into your videos! Thank you! Your narration is wonderful! Great job on this video and all of them! And, so nice to meet Mrs. Drifter. So lovely.
I used to think your wife must be a special person to let you run off by yourself all the time, but to have her join you makes her *REALLY* special! I enjoyed watching the two of you explore together, don't stop!
I really like your videos. I am part Apache and Pueblo Indian. My dad grew up in New Mexico near Pie Town on the Criswell Ranch. I am George Criswell's grandson. My dad told me stories about growing up on the ranch and how he would ride to the hills and explore the canyons, He said he found several of what he called cliff dweller ruins. He said they were well intact with whole pottery, arrowheads everywhere corn cobs, and burnt corn cobs still in the fireplaces. I never went to the ruins because my Grandfather sold the ranch which was over 46000 acres long before I was born. Anyway, I wanted to tell you this because I thought you might want to research it and maybe you could find the ruins my dad spoke about. The Criswell ranch is on the internet today as it is being sold off in chunks. I hope this becomes one of your videos. Thank you again for letting me relive a memory of the stories my father told me.
Thank you for sharing that story❤
You have such amazing history! To be a bug on the wall and listen to your father's stories...
Amazing!!! Thank you for sharing
Loved the story, thanks for sharing. Would love to have access to a place like that!
They used to make some amazing Goat Cheese in Pie Town. I sure miss the Hatch Chili cheese they used to make.
Hello Evelyn, you two are a beautiful match! Looking forward to many more awesome vids with you BOTH !!!❤❤❤
I loved Evelyn being there. She is so cute and patient with your exploits. Mrs Drifter definitely should return on a more regular basis than occasional “guest appearances”.
That face sculpture is crazy. Who ever and whenever they did it and just left it there really left a treasure.
yes indeed. Looks Sumerian. I dont think a hiker went up there with a hammer and chisels and carved this on a camping trip then left it there for people to admire.
I like it much better than names scratched into the rocks or wood.
i would say it took more than a week to carve that
Looks like someone lived there for an extended period and started to set up the cave, out of necessity, as the ancients could have. That thing wasn't carved in a day. A week, semester, idk. I'd call that a gift to the world, maybe there are good and bad traces to be left.
I highly doubt someone did that recently. Have you ever tried to carve something in wood that size? That takes a lot of time even if they had power tools.
You need to definitely have your wife with you from now on because the trips/trails you hike are not always safe to be alone. She adds more life and love to your videos. She’s an extra pair of eyes and a great companion. Awesome video!
Broken legs, what the procedure? ☎️ a friend?
This is the best advice to give. The buddy system can be applied to many types of activities.
1 person is fine until it's not. Then it's too late. Adding just 1 more person opens the options and possibilities _infinitely._
@@michaelmoore7975 but how would u be got out of the area and by whom?
@@Mindsi 1st thing is you need to have emergency numbers from that area plugged into both phones. Next, plot out and discuss the intended route from when you leave the car to the destination. Just a general direction from the car. And distance in a direct line to the destination. This is to simplify and reduce wasted searching. For instance, if one person can't be moved and the other gets out, to tell rescuers "he is North Northwest from where we parked, about 3 miles as the crow flies" or "East Southeast from where we parked 3 and 3/4 miles as the crow flies.' Whatever the case may be. It will help immensely just by knowing a general distance and direction.
While hiking, always keep some distance between the both of them. Not a lot, just keep each other in sight. This way, if something happens to 1 person, it won't likely happen to the other, leaving them to seek help if necessary.
Now IF something happens....say 1 person slips, falls and breaks their back. Hopefully, you can call rescuers and tell the direction and distance from where your car is located. Then just keep the injured person from moving, provide shade if possible, and keep them hydrated. When you hear voices yell to get their attention. If you hear a helicopter, get to a clear area, take off the brightest, biggest piece of clothing and wave it in great big circles to be seen.
But if there is no cell service, then the uninjured person provides shade, leave the injured with some water, and hike back out to the car as fast as safe as you can. Then either drive or find cell service to call emergency. Then everyone go back to where the car was parked and give the distance and direction and go along to help locate the injured.
@@michaelmoore7975 is correct. The buddy system is best. I would add that smoke is also good at getting attention if you don't have brightly colored fabric. Also, phone a friend (or two) before you go so that if you both end up in trouble, your friends can notify emergency services for you.
I love these channels but I worry for our host. Climbing these steep canyons, with no safety gear, all alone?
There is nothing better than having the most important person in your life accompany you while doing what you love. It's even better when you both love what you are doing. Nice to meet you, Mrs. Drifter. Please do more videos with your awesome hubby! You are a great compliment to each other!

There was a place where the river looked like the garden of Eden. I'm glad I wasn't alone in noticing.
Absolutely bring her along. Her laughter is contagious. She’s a great role model. Your videos are always enjoyable but the two of you together made this one special.
Great surprise to have your wife along. She seems to be as adventurous as you! Good call!
When i was 18 years old (1998) i went to the Smoky Mountains to camp, it was my first time in nature, I am from Chicago, and it was a good time! At that time i’ve never heard of the phrase “Leave No Trace” or anything about outdoor ethics! I remember my friends and I started driving away you could see our mess (cups, paper towels, paper plates) it just stood out like a sore thumb! I forced them to go back and we cleaned up put everything in bags or just inside our car and took it to the visitor center and threw it away. That experience changed the way i looked at things and even now i go out of my way to clean up whenever i go hiking or camping!
Thank you!
I’m glad you understood that instinctively. Having grown up during the national anti littering campaign I just assumed that was part of everyone’s upbringing now, but if the understanding comes from within that is even better.
Having Evelyn along with you sure adds a new dimention to your video. I think this was your best one so far. The sculpture was a real surprise too. I really enjoyed this.

Agreed! As a lady follower, I’d enjoy more cameos of her, or an outright shift to dual hiking adventures would be okay too!
"do it for us ladies!"
And gents!
Evelyn is beautiful, and her smile. You folks make a great pair!
Amazing how the addition of another person (Nice to meet, you, Evelyn!) balances the vibe of the adventure. The sole drifter has an inevitable sadness, even though we the viewers are virtually along for the drift. But the second person dispels that loneliness and makes it feel like a true shared experience.
So that's the viewer perspective. For the two of you, though, imagine what wonderful memories you will have made together on what I hope will be many more drifts together - a treasure to share into your old age.
Blessings to you both, and thank you for sharing the view.

I hike in Northern Nevada and what I have come to the conclusion is they destroyed very ancient structures buildings in these people had to go underground and when they came out, they had to build something to protect themselves in their food. Thank you for all the videos you post. They are phenomenal.
One of the thing I’ve discovered is an ancient tree stump 4 miles from my house. that tree stump didn’t just fall. It was cut down. it’s around 300 yards in diameter. I’ll see if I can share some pictures. I’ve been trying to get others to recognize it.. the rest of the tree is laying as a ridge. That’s approximately 10 miles long. I would love to share with you what I’ve discovered., But I’m not sure how to share that on here. The native American artifacts and etches graphics throughout the ridge are exactly what i’m finding in the areas that you hike.. let me know how I can share this. This is the first one I discovered. Up here in Northern Nevada. I have discovered many others throughout this area.. again thank you for sharing. Thank you for your great videos. And you’re great discoveries.

That stone head is remarkable. That took alot of time planning. Is it feasible that someone spent that much time in such a remote place to carve an intricate sculpture that no one would see? I think there's more to this sculpture
One hesitates to say it is ancient because it's not characteristic of the cultures known in the area. But, like you say, what modern person would spend the time making something so intricate? It should be looked into, I think.
@Rev14v7 absolutely!
That rock sculpture is a really curious thing. Nobody hauled it up there and it obviously took quite some time to carve it.
Someone spent a lot of time there doing that.
Amazing in every way! It’s such a joy to have a real PARTNER on the path of life. Thank you both for sharing this joint adventure. What a day!

Shouldn't somebody date it?!?
@@beentheredonethat5495 I've had worse dates, so I would go on a date with that stone.
Jokes aside i think it's hard to do with rocks because they are not organic
I'm pretty sure that rock art is modern. The details are too delicate and intricate. I really hope it was an indigenous artist otherwise it was defacing their ancestors land. Doesn't matter how pretty the artwork is. But also art is a means of opening up discussion and bringing awareness to its interpretation.
Sure, having someone to share the day with is excellent. As an old man, I vote bring your wife along. If you were a couple that fought all the time, leave her at home, but that is not the case. Take her with you. Build memories!

I started this with a morning coffee and had my daughter cuddle up to enjoy the natural wonder of life near streams of water in the wilderness. It was a beautiful trip.

You definitely have my vote to continue including Evelyn! She is a natural in front of the camera. This was an incredible video - well done you guys!
The stone face looks very contemporary and apropos. A talented artist felt inspired and made a tasteful sculpture for us to enjoy. It is not vandalism or graffiti.
That rock sculpture is truly amazing!! When I look at it carefully it gives off a message that only a native American Indian could carve filled with ancient knowledge. I am not saying it is ancient in itself but the imagery it portrays speaks of the ancient knowledge passed down through generations. Someone who intimately knows of their roots and connection to this location could carve something like this monument in memory of this place's significance. To me this what the highlight of the trip. Wonderful meeting Mrs Drifter and she certainly such a blessing in your life.
I loved Evelyn being with you. Include her in more of your adventures.
I hope you bring your wife along with you more often! She seems like such a happy person!
That artifact head with the tree reminds me of tribes from the Chiapas area of Mexico. There is a tribe that lived in caves and worshipped a central ancient tree. They were one of a very few tribes that were not conquered by the Aztec and one of the last tribes to come under Spanish control.
I have a good friend who's mother is from that tribe. I've met her before she passed away. She was raised in a tribal community that lived in caves in the mountains. I've never met such a powerful spiritual person.
She has passed away and even her son but her husband is still alive I've heard recently.
Sorry to go on but that sculpture really resembles photos of their style of art. Alberto ( her husband) was a photojournalist in the 50's till the late 80's and he had photos of the caves and the people even wearing their native clothing.
How wonderful to have that connection! Thank you for sharing the tidbits of your connection. It’s really interesting, powerful, and lovely.

Evelyn is s sweet lady, she keeps you hopping! I love how you guys have a gentle competition to see who gets to the new place first! This was a beautiful place you went to, it makes a person wish they could have known some of the original dwellers and why they chose to live there!
I'm so glad you brought your sweetheart with you. You should do it more often. My sweetheart is in her mid 70's and I'm in my upper 60;s and I'd love to share adventures like this with her.

Absolutely beautiful and lovely couple! The 2 of you look genuinely happy.
Your lady compliments you nicely. Adventerous with a killer smile! Best wishes to you both.
The sculpture near the end is the epitome of true art. Someone went to this place, looked at the stone, and had a vision that he (she?) was compelled to make manifest. They stayed in this place for a week or two or three, long enough to coax the vision to reality. They had no power tools, no dust collector, no electric light, only a hammer and some metal chisels. They had no intention of selling the vision for thousands of dollars, or of it being reviewed in the recognized publications that cover art, or of throngs of viewers flocking to see it, only the compulsion to bring it from his (her?) minds eye into the select eyes of future possible viewers. You were privileged to be one of those rare viewers.
Completely agree, and I can't understand why it would be wrong to make that art. And I suspect if you were camping or living in the area in the modern day, you'd want to use a natural shelter like that, even if it had been used before by first peoples. I would never disturb a site with evidence of ancient habitation but I could see building that shelter if I was staying there for weeks. Maybe the proper thing would be to demolish the shelter after you leave, but I don't see the point personally.
@@robertpeyton9535 I agree with you both, but can I raise you one. Leave no trace in my opinion applies to removing or destroying material or leaving litter. If the people who came before us did not create art and build amazing structures we would know very little about them. Their trash heaps are now goldmines to us today. So I think that it is perfectly fine to build and create in the natural world, just as long as you are responsible and respectful of your surroundings.
NO IT SUCKS! It's fake bullshit invasion into the natural history of this place. You should be ashamed.
I've not even finished watching, and already this is one of my fave videos. Your lovely wife is a delight to behold, and should feature more often. But the landscape and scenery is also amazing !!
Mrs. D is an absolute ray of sunshine and a great addition. She's beautiful, fun and willing to go scramble through the rocks with you. I can see she keeps you awake and alert -- a good partner. A different vibe than with your buddies. Variety is the spice of life!
How can you not have Evelyn along again; lots of smiles
I think the sculpture is amazing, if you leave a trace of that high quality, its a gem and a reminder of modern day beauty - the generations that will come after us can marvel at it. And it fits perfectly into its surroundings! Its part of the land now. Sure, the ancient ones lived there but now, people like the artist walk that place and we should treasure that we live in this world and we should enhance the beauty of it
Thanks for including your wife on another great adventure!

great username!
Love your channel. PLEASE PLEASE keep your locations hidden, there seems to be a bunch of people that think it's all right to destroy these natural wonders. Thanks again for your passion for the ancient ones!
I love Mrs Drifter. Evelyn has in infectious energy. Would love to see her along for more adventures.
My hunch is that whoever carved that sculpture in the standing rock probably stayed there in that cave for as long as it took to create the rock-face. Probably, settled in for a while.
Definitely worth having your wife along! Looked like she was enjoying herself.
Wow! I don't know how you can go anywhere without her; lucky guy.
Yep, the beloved cottonwood, the most widely spread species of tree found in every state of the lower 48,and quite possibly the best friend of kayakers in every place I’ve kayaked.
