The absolute most important factor in any outfit is that it FITS. And that it's appropriate for the occasion. Second importance is being happy with your hair! Kristen always convinces me.
Also Belgian here, I can relate to what you're saying. I have a couple of fabulous dresses and a very chique velvet suit. I wear these clothes over and over again. I am always happy that with every new opportunity I can wear them again. Now and then I add some new accessories, a new pair of earrings or a new lipstick. I think these clothes are a vibrant part of our signature style, so it doesn't matter if we wear them on repeat. Thank you for your interesting content!
I love the concept of sticking with a suit or outfit that flatters and makes you feel good. Why drive yourself crazy looking for something new every year when you have the perfect item/s already?
I’m a basics person. I have timeless pieces that I wear over and over again and do exactly what you are recommending. I change the look from casual to dressy with my accessories. So much easier to get dressed for any occasion. Thanks for an amazing video. 🩷
Yes! Use pieces you own or start thrifting. Look for COLOR: icy gray or cream, black, red or burgundy, green; FABRIC: silky, satiny, velvet, cashmere, lace;ACCESSORIES:pearls, sparkle, shine, metallics, fur. Use any ONE of these to make a festive outfit.
Spot on! I want to shop my closet and have started to use what I have learned from you to create a closet that is authentic to me. I bought the red sweater and fisherman knit sweater in faded denim and boxy cardigan in brown after your sweater video. I love them all. That red sweater with black pants I already own and a sparkly necklace already own is my next holiday outfit. Thanks for helping me to think differently PS my grandson is getting married in July so I might NEED a new outfit. OR NOT
Wonderful video and you look fabulous. I had just re-watched your last year's video for ideas because as usual I shall be dipping into my closet. Just goes to show that using items you already have, putting them together in different ways, adding accessories plus makeup and hair makes a holiday-ready outfit. As a Brit now living in Canada I have always found it difficult to understand the North American idea of buying new for every new event. Certainly didn't happen in my previous life. If you have good clothes that fit well and stand the test of time why buy new for just the odd occasion. I would also like to add that I give my clothes a vacation sometimes and then bring them out a later when fashion has swung round again. I learnt this technique years ago from my very fashionable UK friend.
I love your classic holiday/everyday wardrobe. You reminded me that I own thrifted pearls I rarely wear (runs to find them...) My birthday is in December too! Happy birthday.🎂💖
I just love your vids. I have been watching you for some time and listening more to the conversation and the questions that allow us time for reflection. Thanks to your insight, I've spent time (post retirement), trying to figure out my style. I've got it! I really appreciate your advice. I have reframed my style for this season in my life and I am so pleased with the how I am evolving! Thanks again so very much!
So many women struggle to wear navy and black together. When I worked in Couture at Neiman Marcus, Yves St. Laurent, Chanel, Armani, and Oscar de la Renta... all paired the two!! I was hooked!
Thank you for this practical wisdom! I will be happily wearing clothing I’ve owned for years to an upcoming holiday luncheon and I will add some sparkle with a large crystal brooch that belonged to my grandmother. After I dip it in some jewelry cleaner it should sparkle like moonlight on a snowflake!
Great video and so Timely ! Thank you, Kristen. You just reminded me to pull out my silver sequin skirt that I have never worn. I may wear it to work tomorrow paired with.....not sure yet :) AUTHENTIC is a word you keep repeating and it is resonating with me. Sometimes in looking at items it helps to think of myself in third person - "Is this Kim's style ?" . "Kim wears vests and velvet, cashmere, pink, green, blue, gray and purple. "Kim wears boots, booties and shoes with non slip soles". This inner conversation may seem silly, but I hear this in Kristen's voice (even sillier). I as well have found some truly amazing pieces that I just love - so many beautiful sweaters , some even hand knitted, vintage wool coats, leather belts, scarves, and more !
The red jumper - classic Xmas, I'm suprised you didn't try that on. A great idea to shop our closets first and get creative with what we already own. Way better for the environment too. Sometimes people have a favourite outfit that they enjoy seeing us in. My SIL has a fab pair of rose velvet heels that she wears every Xmas that I loved on her. Reminds me of Dorothy's ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz.
Another fabulous video Kristen. That blouse you are wearing on (22:05) looks amazing on you.I think that blouse would pair so nicely with the silver skirt you are wearing on (16:51).That silver skirt would also be so nice with the red sweater. You inspired me to shop my closet, thanks.
When I find a fabulous piece that fits and is under $10 at the thrift store I buy it and store it at the end of the closet pole. Vintage sparkles and velvet. Copper or pewter pieces. My favorites.
Oh your closet is fabulous and you look fantastic in everything! I wish our Xmas wasn’t sunny, I get jealous of all the sparkle that just can’t be done on a bright sunny day! I love your videos that are just talk videos but I just LOVE It when you show your clothes!!! I get excited seeing how you mix and match and how your wardrobe fits together so well 💞
Thank you, Marion!! And I can imagine sparkle gets a little overpowering when it's warm and sunny! I am hoping for a white Christmas with a bright bluebird sky!!
@ this helped me remember… I have a gorgeous little Santa hat brooch… red jewelled with a white diamond pompom! I think I might wear it with the summer dress and jandals on Xmas day!! 😁
I'd try H&M, Zara, and other similar shops. Thankfully, the faux wrap style is common... especially in black. Fingers crossed that you find something similar.
In Brazil there is this same limitation belief that we can’t repeat outfits 🙄in parties. Specially weddings . For New Year’s Eve the same - everybody look for a new outdot supposing to bring luck 🍀 lol 😅
Thanks! All of the outfits I show can certainly be worn without a belt. I always wear a belt with pants that have belt loops (personal preference), so I'm sharing what I truly wear.
@ I wish I could still wear belts. They look fab on you and always add a pop. I don’t know what to substitute for the pop. I have started wearing more scarves thanks to you and love them. But sometimes they feel a bit too much for my more casual outfits. What to do?
Hi Kristen. I love your Chanel. I have lots of clothes which WOULD look beautiful but I have slopped shoulders so my cashmere cardies and jumpers just look sloppy. I want/need shoulder pads but I want to be able to use them in tops across my wardrobe but Velcro just rips the heck out of my bras and tops. HELP! Love your small references to codependence btw
Hi Moira- Thank you for your support of my channel. If you and I were working together, I'd ask how the thought "I have slipped shoulders" makes you feel? If the feeling isn't one you love, I'd offer that you could reframe your thoughts to create a new feeling. Also, what if you don't actually 'look sloppy' but instead have thought that for so long that you now believe it? You can certainly opt for a t-shirt or tank top that would have sewn-in shoulder pads. I'd offer that falling in love with your beautiful shoulders, exactly as they are, is a better option. 🩷
@@moiraberniegatt9491 TRINNY always wears her special nude tee with shoulder pads underneath almost everything. I think bare shoulders are so beautiful and most of my tops now are sleeveless and show my arms/ shoulders even tho I’m old … I don’t care … and sleeves make me too hot😁
@@KristenCainStyle I hear you. I’d love to love the look but it makes me self conscious. I meant to write sloped. Well spotted. 🤣. I feel like a tortoise. It disguises it perfectly in a hoody but I’m fed up of always wearing hoodies when I have a draw full of beautiful cashmere tops I could wear! The neck shape makes a difference. Must try more styles eh? ❤️🩹
I’m not bothered by the shoulders per se as they look fine. It’s the almost 45° line from mid collarbone to my neck that gives me a bizarre look. Over developed upper traps I believe.

Your comment to trust yourself really resonates with me. Our internal dialogue can be brutal. ❤
A great reminder to shop what's in the closet. Add a sparkle and I feel like I've made an effort. I do feel judged for being casual and a bit boho 😊

I love that you're loving your Quince cashmere pieces!! So good. And a new outfit for his graduation sounds wonderful... a very special occasion!
Amazing content!!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for this, I was so inspired that before the video ended I went and pulled my one sparkly top and some bottoms to try with it!
So happy to hear that!

Love seeing black and navy together. I’ve always struggled with that combination together.

Even the Royals repeat outfits….so do Hollywood stars & even to awards ceremonies
What is the gray sweater with the flowers and you said it had some sparkles? Awesome.
Dreamy, right?! It's from Anthropologie back in 2020.
Do you have any suggestions about where to purchase a similar black dress? I’m really enjoying your videos!
I'd try H&M, Zara, and other similar shops. Thankfully, the faux wrap style is common... especially in black. Fingers crossed that you find something similar.
Before I even watch I have to ask about your hair!! It looks fabulous! Is it more golden than usual? And what is the secret ingredient!!!? 💛💛💛💛💛💛
Oh thank you! You're the sweetest!! It might be the lighting or just that it's getting longer so there is more of it!
@@KristenCainStyle ah that makes sense … more hair to pick up the light! Enjoy that white snow… sounds amazing 💞
Where did you get your long necklace with the pearl?
It's thrifted. There are no brand markings on it.

She doesn't use anything from her wardrobe until after 13 minutes! I lost interest
That's over half of the video.
Well she is a mindset coach. So she is trying to explain how people feel about wardrobe decision challenges, I think.
Too much talking!
Thanks!
