- Come along for a road trip adventure - while we take a 400+ mile trip to pick up a mid-life crisis/early birthday gift - a hard to find FL5 Civic Type-R. We go over the fine details of what it took to travel out of state to pick up this special vehicle. We briefly cover the roads, place to stay overnight, food along the way, dealership/purchase experience and the initial driving impressions of the new car during the ride home! Good car to buy over the regular civic hatch and the type r will hold its value so well worth it I’m my book !! I’ve been on the fence about trading my 23 Camry xse V6 for Type R , I’m 51 now and still wanting the excitement owning a Type R but time will tell !
@RedPanda_______ been debating for a while now so I guess if I haven’t done it yet it more than likely won’t happen , the Camry XSE V6 is a fun car to drive !
Best bet is to find an FL5 at Carmax to test drive and see if you like it. All the critics comment on the FWD setup, but when they get behind the wheel to drive, you’ll forget all about it. So far this car feels like it’s on rails with how precise the handling is.

That’s a good idea asking them not to touch it because I don’t know how many new cars I’ve had that were scratched in the interior or a ding on the outside. I should have done what you did!
My concern was same wash mitt being used to clean wheels was same one to clean paint.

So….What made you choose this over the new Acura Integra Type S?
Many variables here. ITS is an extra $7,250 that only includes +5hp. Then there’s the TLX front clip design (Integra was always unique from the rest of the lineup, not this time around). ITS is also 5” longer, 27 lbs heavier than the Type-R. Then there’s the cheaper looking stick on rear fender flares for the ITS whereas the Civic-R body is molded wider with different sheet metal from the regular Civics. Plus Car and Driver chose the CTR vs the ITS comparison as well 🙂.
Question. Why didn't you go for the type S? At your age i would think it would be a much better car suited to you. Much more mature not so boy racer, nicer inside, better seats, better audio, more features, more power ect. Win win. I'm currently waiting for mine. Thankfully it's illegal in Canada for dealers to sell a car over MSRP.
Valid question. The front clip resembles too much of the TLX plus the added $7k in cost I could not justify as this Type-R was expensive enough for me. Plus the color selection, seats, wheels and exterior design I prefer on the Type-R.
@@randomrebuilds oh ok. I assume you plan on tracking the car often? As that's the really only thing that type R does better and hardly worth mentioning unless your living on the track all the time. Type S is better for road driving. Regardless I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. I had a down payments on a type R. That is before I knew about the Acura Integra type S. Then I went right over to Acura and put my down payment on a 2025 type S in the tiger eye pearl. There's so much gold flake in the Acuras paint it looks amazing. I really like the video where you surprised your parents they were pleasantly surprised and seemed to like the car. Good tradition you have there with surprising them with new cars
