Oh boy, my calfs started twitching in 2000 and have never stopped. This started one day when I came home from shopping. I was on the sofa with my legs up when I noticed just above my ankle there was some twitching going on. I wasn't concerned as I thought maybe the nerve in that area was abit irritated and would stop in an hour or two but nope, it just continued on for a few weeks then it started to spread!!! Both my calves stated to twitch on both sides then within several months my thighs started to twitch. 23yrs later and I've still got serious muscle twitching in both my legs. You can sit and watch the muscles thumping and its really strong. I've even put an item such as a cup on my calf and watched the twitching kick the cup right off my calf! 😲 They jump up and down, pull left and right or ripple along the muscles!! Strangely ive developed sciatica 4yrs ago wich my gp says will go away but its got worse so, ive serious muscle facilitation and very low back pain.

Go to a nuerologist if you haven’t already… there are some very serious conditions that start with twitches, and since yours are getting worse not staying stagnant, you should be advocating to get tests just to make sure it’s nothing life-threatening ASAP (speaking from someone who went and it turned out that it was ok. almost all of the diseases they tested me for were very serious, and they all are more treatable the earlier you find them)

I don't know whether to be relieved or not. Have had back pain since rupturing a disk in 2004, then add age, bone spurs, degenerative disc disease etc. and remembering the MRI said something nasty about that area of the spine and I'd say you're spot on. Been happening for a few weeks and I've put off trying to sort it out. I'm so sick of medical appointments.
Thank you for posting an explanation of the probable reason.

@@CBCB78 This is gonna sound crazy but after years of dealing with this I'm convinced the calf twitching is NOT linked to the L5/S1 pain. Countless back doctors I've been to had told me that twitching but no pain in the area is somewhat uncommon. I got tests done with the neuro and there was no nerve damage, etc. And after all the neurological tests the doc actually told me that some people just have chronic benign twitching (there is a whole subreddit on this, check out r/ benign fasciculation syndrome). In terms of other people I've spoken to online about how they have calf twitching, but no pain, and an L5S1 issue, my crazy hypothesis is that they just have BFS, as well as the pinched back nerve, but they aren't linked. I'm pretty dang certain this is the case with me, because my twitching has actually moved between my two calves, despite me only having a LEFT side back issue, and my twitches also sometimes manifest in other body parts when I'm stressed. That all being said, me knowing something serious isn't wrong has helped tremendously. Meditation + trying to destress has also helped me find peace! How about you?

Oh wow! Glad I watched this! I really hope to get some advice from you...This recently started in my calf. I can feel it coming on and there is a little pain, almost like Charlie horse( yes I had ultrasound on arteries in both legs to rule that out) I had lumbar fusion at the L4,L5,S1 2 years ago. I had lots of nerve pain in legs from spine for around 8 years before surgery. My question is, Could this twitching and muscle movement in my calf be from possible "permanent" nerve damage from spine, even after surgery ? If so, would you recommend I see my surgeon again for treatment or meds, or should I just get used to the pain, as I have for several years? I hope to get a response and thank you very much for your opinion!

I started to get this in April 2022. I get it in both calves and inside of both feet. Non stop, 24/7. But most of the activity is on the right leg/foot. I saw a specialist about 10 months after it started. I was scared I had MND.
The specialist asked me if I had any loss of muscle matter and degraded strength in my legs which I don't. He also got me to do some neural tests. He said that the condition in my case is Benign Fasciculation Syndrome and that I should go home and not worry. I've had this now for almost 2 years but now I know its not MND related and benign, it doesn't bother me as much. But it is weird.
I asked him how he knows its not MND, and he said that when you have MND you get muscle wasting and twitches happening together at the same time. It's not the case that the twitching arrives as a 1st symptom and the muscle wasting happens down the line.

A couple of days after twitching there is radiating pain. Two years back i had severe pain in arms due to cervical radiculopathy ( C5,6,7) which resolved over a period of time with conservative approach. This time more of twitching and less pain. I had skin absence infection I was taking bactrim generic kind antibiotics after a two days I started get twitches in my calf muscle so I stopped taking antibiotics. I only took half of it and didn't finish it. I don't believe what the doctor say or nurse even worse it rhymes they only take advice from the doctor. now doctors are a infection and nurses to I'm never going to take any kind of antibiotics ever again or other medication. I never taking the flu shot and never will. I see other people get sick more often when they have the flu shot what you don't know can hurt you or kill you and I want to sue the pharmacy and doctors but they have a law that protects them from suing them. When going to the hospital to get help but all you're getting is more more sicker and end up with a big hospital bill to pay and partially disabled.

I’ve fixated on it now and it’s stressing me out. When I’m active, it’s gone or i can’t feel it, as soon as I start to talk and put my feet up, that’s it. Non stop.

I started to get this in April 2022. I get it in both calves and inside of both feet. Non stop, 24/7. But most of the activity is on the right.

Same here. Going for MRI next month. My insurance denied my MRI in July because they wanted to see if 6 weeks of PT would help. My low back pain is nearly gone but my calf twitch persists. It’s not painful but extremely annoying. It’s less prevalent on the outside of my thighs but it’s there occasionally too. And now whenever I’m stressed, my eye twitches too.
