Saw STP in Boston, in what was then called the Fleet Center, in the mid 90’s. I’ve never witnessed a frontman so completely empowering and invigorating a large crowd, while simultaneously absolutely crushing the vocals on a set list that featured a variety of songs: the raw, growling anthems (Dead & Bloated, Wicked Garden), the melodic pop pieces (Interstate Love Song, Vasoline), and nuanced acoustic cuts (Pretty Penny, Seven Caged Tigers).
Weiland’s death, like Cornell, Staley, and Bennington, was such a tragic gut-punch for fans of not just great guitar rock… but superior, generational vocal talent in rock.

It's especially painful since there aren't great rock bands producing great music anymore. These guys kept the party going...until they didn't. Of course, we have to include Cobain on the list. Now we're left with hip hop. No thank you!

Mustaine being rescued from drugs by Alice Cooper remains my favorite story from the 90s... I'm glad Dave tried to reach out for Scott and inviting them on a tour, you can see in the earlier STP's shows Weiland wasn't hooked on the stuff yet.

I feel bad that it seems like Dave blames himself... there is a part of his quote that the maker of this video didn't put here where he says Scott did the opposite of what Dave told him, so maybe he accidentally pushed him into it rather than pull him away.
Dave tried to help Scott, he did his best. It didn't work, but that's not his fault.

I got to see STP on New Years 2001 in Orlando, Florida for $100. Back then that kind of money for a band was almost double what I had paid to see a band at that point. My girlfriend canceled at the last minute and I was a little upset but was going anyway. I’d see well over 100 concerts and wasn’t expecting to see the best concert since I saw Yes on my birthday in 85. But they were incredible from start to finish. I got a free drink which I had a coke. And I gave my other free drink to a really hot chick that decided to attach herself to me. I had the best time since I got stung by bees and had sex in the shower with my girlfriend while almost passing out🤣🤣🤣Scott was just an incredible frontman! 10/10👍🏻👍🏻

Also ironically I met Scott Wieland 2 weeks before he died because he was playing a show at the hard rock in Detroit and I worked in the same office building. His tour bus was parked in front of the building and I went out for a smoke and there he was. It was pretty sad when I found out he passed away in that bus alone.

If you attended any anonymous meeting you know the great part of being clean and sober. Everyone has something they carry. If you enjoyed something to death -- death is on your door step. At least in sobriety decisions you make can comfort you instead of harm. Addiction is for life because of influence. Touch individuals if you really think you made a connection. Not all people are bad? In the least learn what bad is so someone can know something about you besides a statistic or record. Being fake is what kills.

He wanted to walk miles to a local park and the lady had to walk with him. She didn’t seem bothered by it, I assume she was paid very well and seemed to care a great deal for him. I don’t know what it would have taken to save Scott, seems everyone tried really hard.

People love to dunk on Dave Mustaine, Gene Simmons, and Ted Nugent, (and sometimes I can see why) but the 3 of them have a lot of guts and have had some difficult conversations with different musicians to try to steer them away from substance abuse. Credit where credit is due.

I’ve seen some really incredible bands over 40+ years. Surprisingly Stone Temple Pilots stole the top spot to me. They did all they’re hits. Then did them all again acoustically. Then did them all a third time but with even more power. It was just fantastic on New Year’s Eve in like 02 or 03. All I know was I thought they were cool. But when I went to see them live and completely by myself because everyone had to work or couldn’t make it. I hooked up with some fine Betty I never met before and cheered all night with her till she noticed she lost her purse. I never saw her after that but I had a blast with her. But the performances throughout the whole band was pure intense jamming fun. I thought they’d be good but was totally blown away. Like seeing skynyrd in they’re prime or The Doors or Yes!

It was actually Scott whom came up with the band name, both times actually.
He had a shrine thing with an STP oil sticker in the middle... it was what inspired the band to come up with a name for the letters.
2ndly he came up with BLACK VELVET REVOLVER . Everyone liked it buy wasnt 1000% on it!!
Then after some disputes and debates, they all said "how about just VELVET REVOLVER" and.... as they say the rest is history or printed in ink!

The first incidence is cool, and Stone Temple Pilots is a great name for a rock band. However, to me the name Velvet Revolver is just a knock off of Guns*n*Roses, soft and hard at the same time, a weapon and something opposite. For GnR the concept fit at that time, though.

I don't understand why STP got so much flack for sounding like what was popular at the time. It's what they liked and how they wanted to sound. Every single music genera has a particular sound.. All the 80s hair bands sound the same, all the 80s country songs sound the same, the Golden oldies all sound the same.. So why were they singled out for sounding like 90s alternative music?? I loved them.. They're actually my number one grunge band and Scott was the sexiest man to me, especially during his early years when he had meat on his bones ❤❤❤❤

I was 19 at the time they broke. They just blew up a year later than Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the rest. The fact that Grunge was rooted in punk meant that everyone was obsessed with authenticity, so arriving a little late to the party made them suspect. Pretty dumb, but its how it was. Yeah, who’s the dude that made that decision. I mean Scott was a notorious junky but if you look at Layne Staley anytime after 93 he looks horrible: thin, gloves and long shirts to cover track marks, bad teeth - let’s replace one guy who’s an addict with a deathwish with another guy who’s an addict with a bigger deathwish.

Another 90s icon gone too soon. The STP sound was one of a kind which is what differentiated that 90s sound from any other. Scott Weiland, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell are all gone too soon. RIP.

People tried to help Scott and make him see the light but he didnt want to listen. Killed himself not even thinking about his wife and kids. What a human being he was. Same with Kurt Cobain. People love to idolize their rock gods and maybe they should stop doing that.

Saw STP open for Megadeth on their very first tour. They were amazing, what a frontman. Saw them again a few years later and Scott nailed a cover of Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Floyd. Weiland was like a modern day Jim Morrison. There is definitely a hole in rock music now that he is gone.

Correction: They were NOT successful in the early 2000’s. The Shangri La album from 2001 flopped and only went gold. They tried to push days of the week as a single but it went nowhere.
