there is only 1 new person, and that would be Matt Sallee who came in 2017 when Avi left for personal reasons, and yes you were correct Mitch is still there, he and Kirstie change their looks regularly and it throws people when they see them thinking that there is someone new.
LOL! Mitch and Kirstin throw people off by changing up their look so often. This was Mitch’s mullet phase. The more you hear them, though, the more you’ll recognize their very unique vocal timbres in the arrangements, and the more you watch them, the more you’ll know their pretty faces. I honestly have no idea how a total of six people can be so talented and also so darn lovely - and nice! I’m sure they must be violating some sort of cosmic law, but I’m here for it, lol! Matt joined the band in 2017. He has a gorgeous and flexible voice that suits the group very well, plus I can’t get enough of his joyful energy. In concert he just radiates joy and I can’t help smiling whenever I see him.
How did you not recognize Mitch !! When you start seeing all their recordings you will see that they ALL continue to change their clothing, hair (color/cut) their looks. in 13 years only one change in group...Avi left in late 2017 due to continued traveling and being away from family (left very amicably), and was replaced by Matt. I know that you are going pretty much thru their evolution, but you MUST react a couple of more recent releases...."Kiss From A Rose " (Seal), and "O Holy Night" (Xmas album)...will blow your mind as to their development !!!
Thanks for the reaction guys. It was so funny u could not recognize Mitch but I don't blame you. He keeps changing his looks n has even gone bald! Keep reacting to PTX!
This is my favorite cover of this song. Two originals you should check out from them are Be My Eyes and Coffee in Bed. Their originals do not get enough coverage. They are so good. Just FYI, Mitch changes his looks often.
The members of #Pentatonix. In this song: • First verse, tall blond guy: Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. In describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that the actual range exceeds the nominal range. In Scott's case, he sings everywhere from about the middle of a normal bass range through a normal tenor range, with an excellent falsetto on top. In live performances Scott typically takes over the bass harmony line when their bass has a solo. • Second verse, dark haired guy next to Scott: Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), contratenor. Mitch has a range of just over 6 octaves, but he's most comfortable in his higher registers. He switches between chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice seamlessly, and is known for his ethereal high solos. Everyone in Pentatonix says he has the best voice of any of them. • Third verse, black guy in a white jacket on the far left: Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. It's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing. To find his current range I recommend listening to a a recent live performance of "Hallelujah," though you may want to watch their official video of "Hallelujah" first so you can hear what it sounded like with their original bass, Avi Kaplan, who left Pentatonix in 2017 for personal reasons. You can find the recording with Matt here: ua-cam.com/video/Se0BmDdZuX0/v-deo.html Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, which is fantastic. His lowest notes don't blow out speakers the way Avi's have done (though they may within a year or two), but on the high end his falsetto can match Kevin's. • Fourth verse, the only woman in Pentatonix: Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, alto and soprano. Kirstin sings anywhere from a low alto (though not contralto, which is the female equivalent of baritone) through coloratura soprano, the highest female range. And she has whistle notes on top of that which are off the charts. Lately Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an "alto soprano." • The fifth member of Pentatonix is the black guy on the right: Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on the cello and once on the saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. Matt joined Pentatonix in late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it), after their original bass left the group for personal reasons in 2017; he has now been with Pentatonix longer than their original bass was. Which brings us to the one member of Pentatonix who doesn't appear in this video: • Bearded white guy who usually wore a beanie or stocking cap: Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends upward to about the middle of the tenor range. Since leaving Pentatonix Avi has gone on to have an extremely successful solo career; I highly recommend subscribing to his UA-cam channel, which you can find here: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic The appearance of Mitch and Kirstin tends to vary greatly from one video to another, so people will frequently think they see someone new in Pentatonix when it's really Kirstin or Mitch. With these two, go by their voices, not their appearance; their voices don't lie. To be clear: Avi is the ONLY member who's left Pentatonix and Matt is the ONLY member who joined later.
I love your Pentatonix reactions!!! Check out some of their originals-Run To You, Be My Eyes, Thank You, Light in the Hallway, Please Santa Please... And, they have an amazing number of Christmas videos. You could do a whole month of those alone. Keep em coming guys.
Core members are Scott, Mitch, Kirstin(all three froma Texas High School) and Kevin was recruited right before their TV broadcasted show debut. [Avi was also recruited for the show but eventually left due to multiple different reasons] The only "new" member is Matt(guy with white jacket). He was recruited within a year of Avi's sudden departure. People often get confused with Kirstin and Mitch changing their looks frequently but i find it refreshing.
Ok, now that you've been introduced to Matt, you guys can listen to a few more of their best ones; Amazing Grace, The Prayer, & Kiss From a Rose... And of course you can start to get into their Christmas music, which includes perhaps their best song of all time, O Holy Night!
There’s so many songs PTX have done you’re in for a treat I’d personally recommend these few 1- The Prayer (more recent one but Scott sings in near perfect Italian) 2- 90s Medley (huge nostalgia hit and a massive bop) 3- Bohemian Rhapsody (you had a taste in the evolution of music but they did a full version/ original artist loved their version too) 4- Evolution of Michael Jackson (it’ll remind you how many songs MJ released that are amazing and they somehow blend a tonne into one song) 5- Sing (a super feel good song and video) 6- 12 days of Christmas (short song but showcases how good they are at arrangements) 7- you’re a mean one mr grinch (festive song for December 😁)
Thanks, guys! Yup...they upgrade every song they cover, as we pentaholics have always said. By now everyone has told you that Matt Sallee is the "new" ( not really new these days since he's been with the group for over 6 years). Matt is actually a baritone ( same category as Scott...the tall blond dude) but Matt's vocal range is lower than Scott's and getting lower as he trains and matures. He also has a surprising falsetto! Recommend some originals for you guys: Coffee in Bed, Be My Eyes, Happy Now, Love Again.
Yep...Mitch fooled you guys! Which he will do... I love their version of this song and it is powerful!! Matt Sallee has now been with the group longer than Avi was (we will always love Avi.) Hope you're getting ready to do their Christmas songs coming up!!
I love watching you guys reacting to this beautiful and so talented group, they have so many good songs shallow, Havana, the prayer. And with Christmas not far away, please Santa please which is an original song, oh come all e faithful which will be a surprise it’s not what you expect. There are so many just keep going and the fans pentaholics will be right with you .
Sine 2011 to 2016 Avi Kaplan was the bass, Matt Sallee since 2017. Mitch and Kirstie are called the chameleons. TX for this. Greetings from South Africa
I'm not certain that you've actually *heard* the original, since you never mention Simon and Garfunkel, who were an American folk rock duo in the 1960s. It was written by Paul Simon, and they first released it in January, 1966. In the nearly 60 years since then, it has been covered by numerous bands and singers. There has been much speculation about the meaning of "Sound of Silence." Because it was released shortly after President Kennedy's assassination, many people thought it was about that. Some people think that Paul Simon foresaw the internet. Some people think it's set in the aftermath of a global catastrophe, either nuclear war or climate change. But Paul Simon did talk about this, and here's what he had to say: "…we have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate."
Oh, man. I knew as soon as I heard you say that Mitch was missing that you would be getting raked in the comments for not recognizing him! It's really not completely surprising, he and Kirstin tend to change their looks a lot - probably more than the rest of the group combined! I'm actually a little surprised you recognized Kirstin - this look for her seems to have been almost a one-off, she hasn't looked quite like this in any other videos I can think of, and since she's often a blonde, it's quite a change for her. Matt in the white jacket at the end of the line is the only "new guy" in the group - and since he's now been with the group longer than Avi originally was, he's not the "new guy" anymore, even though he'll probably always end up with that label.
Only one member has ever left the group and that was Avi Kaplan, on good terms. Matt is the new base and he is extremely talented. That’s it! Everyone else is the original members. Mitch is in this video! You better take another look. lol 😊
Dudes! I am very happy you are doing #PTX reactions, but please take a tiny bit of time to get to know the group. Scott - tall blond, Mitch - shorter dark-haired guy (sharp, high voice), Kirstin (the only female), Kevin (beatbox, singer, cello player), Avi (original bass), Matt (current bass). Please??
I always laugh whenever people wonder where Mitch is because of his changes in his look over time. The only new member is Matt.Avi left in 2017 and then Matt became their new bass singer.
It blows my mind when people are reacting to a video from 2018 of a group they've only known about for 6 months and say, "hey that guy is new". No, you guys are new.
Great reaction. It you want to be blown away with a different genre. try their mashup of New Rules x Are You That Somebody. Originals by Dua Lipa and Aaliyah. The Prayer, Kiss From A Rose ( vevo live) O Holy Night, Amazing Grace are all wonderful too
Pentatonix does not do covers! A cover is a singer trying to sound just like the song was heard on the radio. If you think Pentatonix sang this song just like Simon & Garfunkel sang it, you're nuts. Someone put a lot of time into rearranging it to sound like Pentatonix. This was a remake or a rearrangment of the Simon & Garfunkel song.

The live version specifically!
Agree ^^
Yes it's a live Vevo recording. Find it. Lol

Recommend the official video of My Favorite Things.
This!! 😂

👍👍Many artists have covered this great song. This performance is my favorite!!😊 🖖❤
Dude, you haven't done their Bohemian Rhapsody yet? -- Best version ever
Core members are Scott, Mitch, Kirstin(all three froma Texas High School) and Kevin was recruited right before their TV broadcasted show debut.

1- The Prayer (more recent one but Scott sings in near perfect Italian)
2- 90s Medley (huge nostalgia hit and a massive bop)
3- Bohemian Rhapsody (you had a taste in the evolution of music but they did a full version/ original artist loved their version too)
4- Evolution of Michael Jackson (it’ll remind you how many songs MJ released that are amazing and they somehow blend a tonne into one song)
5- Sing (a super feel good song and video)
6- 12 days of Christmas (short song but showcases how good they are at arrangements)
7- you’re a mean one mr grinch (festive song for December 😁)
I really like their version of Havana and Blinding Lights.
Goosebumps! Mary is a good song, Hallalujah is incredible! They freaking are Am-a-zing!!

Yep...Mitch fooled you guys! Which he will do... I love their version of this song and it is powerful!! Matt Sallee has now been with the group longer than Avi was (we will always love Avi.) Hope you're getting ready to do their Christmas songs coming up!!
This is by far my absolute favorite rendition of this song!
Okay, you can't miss the Avi on Love Again. It's mandatory listening at this point. DO IT
I’m a teach you how to

You gotta watch 'Love again'! One oflmy favourite originals ❤
Mitch is a true chameleon!!!
Love the Mullet!!!
I love love love them❤❤❤❤
Sine 2011 to 2016 Avi Kaplan was the bass, Matt Sallee since 2017.
Mitch and Kirstie are called the chameleons. TX for this.

I could sit all day long and listen to this amazing group. Sooooo much talent❤
Great reaction ! ❤ ty ty

Great reaction. Try Coffee in Bed, that's a ptx original.
Welcome to Matt
You both are dope! Keep listening... there is sooooo much more to experience. Cracks me up that you didn't recognize Mitch.
❤❤❤❤❤
You need to do Prayers for this World and Kiss from a Rose.
Only one new member: Matt Sallee replaced Avi. Mitch is the one who sang the second solo.
You have to react to their cover of The Prayer!! So good!
i recommend 12 days of christmas!!!
Thanks Guys Awesome Reaction!!
Looks like some VoicePlay is needed to expand the ear candy bowl! Go with VoicePlay's "Carry on my Wayward Son".
Oh, man. I knew as soon as I heard you say that Mitch was missing that you would be getting raked in the comments for not recognizing him! Mitch was the second soloist. he often changes his appearance Listen for his voice.. Great reaction. They just don't sing anything that's not better.
If you want to hear Avi Kaplan sing by himself try his Change On the Rise or First Place I Go. He is a singer songwriter since he left Pentatonix.
Try Disturb version of this song,it will blow you away,
The best sound of silence cover is the disturbed cover, it will give you chills
Can't beat Disturbed if you want angry.
Please??
You need to listen to the version from Diturbed ! OMG
Check out Simon & Garfunkel 's Version. They wrote this and sung it in the 70"s
I always laugh whenever people wonder where Mitch is because of his changes in his look over time. The only new member is Matt.Avi left in 2017 and then Matt became their new bass singer.
Dudes, that is Mitch who sang second
A major part of the PTX secret sauce is the Kirstin/Mitch combo. If either of them leave, it wouldn't work.
You should try “thinking out loud / I know I’m not the only one” mash up by Sam Tsui and Casey Breves. They do some beautiful song covers
Matt is new, but he's been with them for yrs now
Mitch was next to Kevin, the beat boxer
It blows my mind when people are reacting to a video from 2018 of a group they've only known about for 6 months and say, "hey that guy is new". No, you guys are new.
That is still Mitch!!!! And the Only New Person is Named Matt Sallee
Tall white guy is Scott Hoying. LOL
Mitch is there
They are great because they do not need musicians. But cannot beat the version by Disturbed
Have you guys seen Distureds version of sound of silence? The live version on Conan is my favorite but they have a music video as well
That is Mitch.
Mitch is still there
Great reaction. It you want to be blown away with a different genre. try their mashup of New Rules x Are You That Somebody. Originals by Dua Lipa and Aaliyah. The Prayer, Kiss From A Rose ( vevo live) O Holy Night, Amazing Grace are all wonderful too
This is the same style as was done by Disturbed, you need to give that a listen
mitch is there ,he's the best
mitch is standing right next to scott, matt replaced Avi
Hi
I really like you guys! Please react to Mary, did you know?
mitch is there, just not avi matt took avi's place
Lol, yep, it’s always Mitch. Peace …

Mitch is there avi has left
Mitch is in this video. What are you guys smoking?
Nope only one new addition to the group his name is Matt he took over avi's place in the group
mitch is there he just is always changing his look.. Matt is Avi basicly hand picked replacement
Wie wär es mal mit einer Reaktion auf Scott Hoyer live mit Angelina Jordan und Toby Gad am 20.9. in Glendale/LA , Alex Theatre und dem Song "All of me" (by Toby Gad and John Legend) ua-cam.com/video/OOgrfpuHZP8/v-deo.html
mitch is there... :)
Only one new person is in the group
If you have to resort to swearing to express yourself, then your vocabulary is sorely lacking. Ruins others enjoyment of the moment!!!
Your f-bombs add nothing to your reaction
Home free is good, but pentatonix makes them look like amateurs. Not even close
A I is the only member who left. Mitch is still in the group.
Only one member has ever left the group and that was Avi Kaplan, on good terms. Matt is the new base and he is extremely talented. That’s it! Everyone else is the original members. Mitch is in this video! You better take another look. lol 😊
