- Part 6 on the TL TYPE S Rebuild. a long awaited update, it finally runs and drives on all cylinders without any funny noises or overheating. It did briefly break down due to a bad crankshaft sensor which I suspect is possibly why the RL that I sourced the engine from was at a junkyard. Rather than diagnosing it they scrapped the car, sucks for them but good for me. Also having issues with the starter so that'll be on the next to do list. We also go over the car and plan on addressing the interior next and other cosmetic stuff. We still aren't 100% mechanically sorted, but we will get there.
Man I love this series! My love for Acura TLs from the 1st-Gen to the 4th-Gen can’t be explained. They’re just super well built cars that are crazy easy to work on. I’m waiting for the next episode!
Sorry I haven't updated! I just started reading again thru the comments and I really need to get organized! I go thru lots of cars and I'm recording many different things that I will get sorted and upload. Stay tuned
@@gapplevr4915 yes indeed!
only the transmission are to be complained about but luckily they fixed that nonsense with the 07-08’s, best tl to ever come
Until you get to changing out a water pump! Lol
Great just man thanks for the knowledge, I always appreciate when people show the process and explain how to fixed it thanks
Happy to see an update, it's impressive! Look forward to more they are helpful and look forward to the interior. Luckily my 07 and 08 Type S's both have uncracked dashes...
Good Job! I watched the entire series a few times and part 5 many times. Yours is easily the best J37 series on YT. Interior rebuild would be awesome. Glad you got all the engine issues sorted.
Yep it won't be a full interior rebuild but it'd be better than what it started with for a very low cost. Not sure what to do with the dash because I don't have the time to remove or want to spend the funds to have it leather wrapped like I wanted. Headliner is also the same deal, no space or time to mess with that at the moment. I will update on the rest of the interior.
Thank you for sharing your journey with this car. We learned a lot from it. Very grateful
love this series! keep it up man
Happy for you bro, you got down on the TL-S
Nice work bro!! Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to see it all cleaned up and looking great! I have the same project going myself. I know it would be a pain in the butt, but it would be cool to watch you take the seats and carpet out so some can see how and where everything is! Keep killed it maaan!💪🏼🔥🔥🔥👍🏻
Already ahead of you, stay tuned for Part 7
my wdp type s’ previous owner had the notorious ball joint failure while he was taking a turn. he fixed it and shes good to go aside from cosmetic damage to the fender & i talked him down to a wicked deal but i have the same issue as you with the steering wheel. i guess it needs to go for an alignment? or ive heard the steering wheel might have to come off and re adjust? it happened at the end of summer. havent had time to bring her in
Don't remove and adjust the steering wheel, I believe you can throw off your steering radius doing that.
We love the Acura TL contact bro keep it up TL life. I'm trying to k24 swap my TL hehe yes sir
That'd be interesting to see, lots of room for fun stuff with that swap. Throw AWD into the mix
Great thanks for the update!
i wish the type s were getting parted out in canada as much as they do down south. fuck its rare to get parts up here. that and each city in canada is separated by 10 hour drives
My brother has several of these sitting in his yard gold and gray. In ruff condition like yours. Biggest issue is the auto transmissions are not very durable, I keep bugging him about fixing them. How you did a 3.7 swap is dope. Im betting the exhaust sound alot deeper due to the increased stroke. With around 30wtq gotta feel like a different animal. Awesome video keep it up
Hi my name is Eric I also live in Texas .I was wondering,I know this video is old but do you still have your old driver side and pass rear door panels I need parts off them to finish repairing them like the trim, handle, lock, seat memory, arm rest, back leather and window controls, thanks for the videos gave me some new ideas and as always any help is always appreciated 👍😁
I have some from a base model not a type s
@@gapplevr4915 Ty for the help gust with work and family you know keep coming late for parts and some of the parts on the driver door panel are discontinued now 😢 thanks for videos love them and have a great year.
Great job brother you did it
Great series, did you use ecu off the 3.7? The 3.2 engine harness too with mods? I have a buggy with a 3.2 a1 and wat to see if I can install a 3.7 thanks in advance I am new to the Honda world j series
No I used my original ECU, it's a 2007 type s
Great job bro I wish I was close to you for you to do mines.
Wya?
@@horlly6155 bro I got it done now preciate ya
So to do the j37 swap u have to change the crack sensor from the j35 ?
What else you have to swap from the j35
No, I replaced my crankshaft sensor because it failed. My guess as to why the Acura RL was at the junkyard that I bought the j37 from was because they had a problem with the car shutting off and running poorly. For the j37 swap I had to rewire the ignition coil connectors (different j37 ignition coils), use j37 catalytic converters, and use the j35 egr valve/j35 intake manifold. The j37 intake manifold does not have a provision for the IAT sensor (this can be fixed by using an AEM air intake that has an IAT port, or weld an IAT port to an aftermarket intake pipe). Also, the oil pressure switches are different. The j35/j37 oil pressure switches are different thread pitch/different connectors, and I tried to use the j37 oil pressure switch connector but I still couldn't get it to work and it causes the oil light to be on. If I were to do it again, I would use the j35 oil pump so I can re-use the j35 oil pressure switch to avoid that problem.
And how the stock j3.5 ecu running the j37
If that 3.5 liter
And the 3.7 liter ?
It's running fine, I don't race it and I do use premium gas because on these high compression engine you can damage them with lower octane. I do plan on buying hondata later on and tuning it so I can make sure to maximize my gains/drivability/fuel mileage
How did you resolve the oil pressure light swapped a j37a4 in my tl-s and only thing I have to resolve I think we originally did the same left the 3.7 sensor and changed the plug over
It never went away, I was gonna either re-use the oil pump from the j35 or find a npt adapter to re-use the old pressure sensor
poor thing, why do people abuse their cars so bad?? love these vids man keep going
Because most people are complete trash
Congratulations on the 3.7 swap.. I’m getting ready to do the same..but I had a question it might have been answer some where else but I’m just curious on the check engine light? Did you ever get it fixed? Or is it something that I would have to live with? Or is it the O2 sensor heater circuit? And how did you fix it. Thank you
It's not related to the swap, it's an issue with this particular car because idk what they put it through before. Haven't looked into it further, but if it's not a wiring issue then it's gonna be a ECM issue. I'm thinking it fried when they broke the O2 connector and the wires were all touching
they sell a dash cap you can put on if you want to repair the cracks.
I've seen them but I might actually go thru the pain of removing the dash and having it leather wrapped
@@gapplevr4915 sounds nice
Now the new plan is to wait on dashskin.com to re-stock with new covers.
Hold up!!!! Old fuel can cause a mis fire???? I didnt know that
Poor fuel quality can, but I didn't have that problem with my car, I remember I didn't wire in the #5 coil connector properly
How much have you put into the car so far?
I'll probably do the math when I get to a stopping point where it's sorted to a good running daily. So far it's been ok, but the best part is that I've done all the maintenance while engine/trans were out, so I don't have to deal with buying a used car and not knowing what maintenance has/hasn't been done.
Shit I paid 600 for the all black base model interior you got a Steal !!!! I can’t even find type S interrior
I had a tl in 2004 I missed it
What’s the cel on for?
O2 sensor heater circuit
