Thanks for watching!
Dennis Lehane is incredible, I wish the Kenzie/Gennaro series continued. .
Agreed, although I do like the way he left it in Moonlight Mile.
You've successfully sold me on Michael Connelly--my goodness, The Black Echo was fantastic--so I'll have to check out Dennis Lehane at some point!
Awesome! Lehane may not be as consistent but I think reaches greater heights.
I’ve been very curious about Dennis Lehane. Sounds like these could be a pretty good place to start. Especially since you said they can be read as standalones.
I think just about all his books can work as stand alone - a cool thing about crime fiction in general!
Just dropping a like 👍 for a book review
Thank you, my friend!
These 3 novels were my introduction to Lehane and what a great writer he is. I am glad you enjoyed them. As an aside, I just finished Song For Arbonne after hearing such good things about it from both you and Johanna. Such an incredible world and characters in that book and I really enjoyed it. You and Johanna are 100% trustworthy in my mind! 😃
Glad you love Lehane and so glad the recommendation of A Song for Arbonne worked for you! I trust Johanna's recommendations too! :)
These are the few Lehane novels I have not read. They sound interesting. Thanks for reviewing them and reminding me that they are there for the pickin.
Great! Yes, I think these three fly under the radar.
You have put Lehane on my radar. Not sure when I will get to his books; too many books, too little time 😊
You're really in for a treat for whenever you begin his novels. His prose and style draws you in rather quickly and he has a knack for putting you right in the setting and time period he's writing about. Mystic River for example, you feel you're right there in Charleston, Boston. I wasn't as enthused with the movie when it released, but the book when I read it years later was, to me, miles better than the film. It's just that good. I love Lehane's works.
Glad to put him on your radar! The beauty of his works is even the ones that are part of a series function as stand alone novels, so you could likely squeeze them in here or there.
I finished small mercies a few days ago, was my first book by lehane but I’ll definitely be reading more by him.
I've heard really great things about Small Mercies and look forward to reading it soon!
I'm pretty new to reading crime fiction, just recently got into it last year and I've since picked up The Drop, Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River, and Small Mercies. I read The Drop first because it was the shortest and enjoyed it. Haven't got to the others yet. I didn't realize Gone Baby Gone was like the third or fourth in a series when I bought it. Can I still start there with Kenzie and Gennaro since I already have it, or do I need to get A Drink Before the War? I will definitely read the Coughlin books, enjoyed hearing your thoughts on them, they sound really good.
You're in for a ride because The Drop is arguably one of Lehane's weakest books. I read the Kenzie/Gennaro books extremely out of order, so you can definitely do that. Gone Baby Gone is my favorite, so if you love it, maybe pick up the rest and read in order. Probably the only one you couldn't read out of order and have it work is Moonlight Mile, the last one.
@@RedFuryBooks Thanks!
Is the Mystic River book anything like the movie? I'll have to add this author to my list. I don't know much about the mystery or crime fiction genres. Every mystery or crime story I read usually involves witches and magic. Lol
The movie, as in most cases is not as good, but it is pretty true to the plot and themes. If you liked the movie you will really like the book
Urban fantasy could be a good gateway to crime fiction! Mystic River is pretty similar to the book as I recall, but of course the book was better!
His 'The Drop' didnt really work for me. Guess I need to pick up another book of his.
The Drop and Since We Fell are probably the two Lehane books I don't recommend to people. The Drop was a novelization of his own screenplay and just felt thrown together to me.
@@RedFuryBooks Good to hear that
Are these the historical novels?
Yes, the first one in particular.
