I read 100+ books a year in a wide variety of genres. My favorite genres that I read include Fantasy, Science Fiction and Historical Fiction, but I also read a lot of classics, nonfiction and the occasional mystery or crime thriller. So those are the books I tend to make videos about! I’m mostly here to have conversations about books so thanks for stopping by!

New sub here! Glad I found you! Ordering Lonesome Dove right now🙂 Pillars of the Earth is THE BEST!!!!! I was sad when I was finished reading it too!!!
Since I have been eyeing the Sun Eater series it will be of real interest to me to hear your reaction/assessment.
Thanks! I've read the first two books and first two novellas and am enjoying it so far. Not putting it in the best ever category quite yet, but have enjoyed my time.
@@RedFuryBooks Ah, interesting. Thanks for the 'sneak peek'.
Atlantis 🌌🌞🦋
Glad to see The Dark Tower and Ender's Game get some love. I just recently started the Dark Tower and so far I'm enjoying it. I also liked how Ender's Game was written compared to other science fiction novels I've ever read.
Ender's Game is definitely it's own thing!
Wizard and Glass is when I went from liking Roland as character to loving him. And Ender’s Game is a book with a fantastic plot and one that I think is underrated for its thematic depth!
Yes and yes!
Who knew that Sting would be posting book review videos on UA-cam?!?
Ha! I've heard Bill Burr but not Sting!
SWAN SOOOOONG! 🙌🔥 This reminded me how much I really want to read The Killer Angels. I even went and took it off the shelf just now and put on the stack I keep on my bedside table. I might actually fit it in this month, but we'll see. The Trouble With Peace is phenomenal. Probably my favorite Abercrombie novel as well.
I knew you'd like Swan Song being here! It's such a great book and I imagine it may raise in my mind with even further distance from it. I hope you love The Killer Angels!
I can't believe that I haven't read any of these... I need to rectify that! Especially First Law and Dark Tower are series I quickly need to get back to. And you have totally sold me on The Poet!
The TBR mountain is continuously rising for us all. Not a bad thing!
I started reading Suneater this year and I want to read book 2 and 3 through February and March respectively. At the moment I'm reading through the complete Earthsea cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin, and I also want to finally start with Stormlight Archives before January ends. More as a side project (because I promised my son) I'm working through the Redwall books (fast reads though, so that's more like a real palate cleanser) I also want to read Robert Jackson Bennett's Shadow of the Leviathan Duology (second book releases in February) as well as finish his Foundryside trilogy during February and March (read book 1 in december). Same goes for Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture series that i also started in december. Then there's Jen William's Talon Duology that I want to read in Q1 as well. Tad Williams is another integral part of my reading plans for 2025, but I have to wait for March to start with it, when German publisher Hobbit-Presse start a new decorative edition (want the German edition because of family members who might love to read it as well). I am also slowly making my way through Guy Gavriel Kay's book though I am at an earlier stage. I am reading them in publishing order and next will be A Song for Arbonne. I think that's pretty much it with what I really want to read. There's other things as well (there always are), but I am not the fastest reader at the moment so I'm hesitant to plan for more. Plans might change of course, I am a bit of an impulse reader.
Best of luck with all of these! I enjoyed The Earthsea Cycle quite a bit, and the Final Architecture series definitely interests me too!
Wizard and Glass was my fav too! And Swan Song is wonderful too. 1Q84 is a masterpiece of surrealism.
Yes yes and yes! :)
This is quite the list! I'll have to check out The Poet, and I'm also still looking forward to diving into GGK (currently reading Janny Wurts, Curse of the Mistwraith, and loving it). I'm guessing there'll be a lot of Robin Hobb in future videos of this series?
More Hobb is a great guess! :)
Now I need to see the next ten 🫣
Be patient, my friend! :)
@ 😆 easy for you, you know what they are already 🤣
@@bigaldoesbooktube1097 HA! True! 🤣
In Q1 2025, I am in the midst of the Realm of the Elderlings series. Currently, I'm reading The Tawny Man trilogy (Fool's Errand). I'm still thinking about The Liveship traders! What an incredible, remarkable story. Anyway, reuniting with Fitz this round and loving it.
I adore the beginning of Fool's Errand and reuniting with Fitz. Many people consider Tawny Man the best trilogy of them all, so enjoy!
Definitely give gods and generals and the last full measure a try. I liked them a lot
Good to know - I definitely plan to at some point!
You said you would love a prediction as to what might be in your top 20, so I'll hazard one. Recently you were on a livestream with Tori (from ToriTalks) and I asked you how many stars you had given the book Hyperion. You said, "Six!", and called the Cantos your favorite science fiction series of all time. So that's my guess for inclusion in the picks yet to be revealed: Hyperion by Dan Simmons.
Aha, it pays to pay attention! ;) I think the only question with Hyperion is "How high will it go?"
@@RedFuryBooks Just for silly fun I'm going to take a stab at your question. I'll say it clocks in at #12, but not impossible that it cracks your top 10. ;)
@@ButOneThingIsNeedful I love the specificity of your prediction!
Okay, prediction time: Top 10 includes Fellowship of the Ring, Shogun, Pillars of the Earth, A Song for Arbonne, Assassin's Fate, 11/22/63, and East of Eden. Also in top 20: RotK, one more GGK, one or two more Hobb, and The Stand.... That's 12 books I'm pretty sure you'll have there, haha. And I can't remember if you read Lonesome Dove or not, but if you did it will also be there. 🎉 Edit: Oh wait. Also in top 10: Count of Monte Cristo, Kate Middleton and GGRM (A Storm of Swords).
Danny=Nostradamus. OR has watched my channel for awhile! :)
@RedFuryBooks both
I still need to read Dark Tower series. I also need to read Swan Song as well.
I love both and hope you do as well!
Love the Murakami pick!
Under Heaven looks really good. I want to read The First Law series I read The Blade Itself I thought the middle of the book was boring. Nice list overall
The Blade Itself does start slow. The series starts to get good in the second book, but it's definitely a different kind of fantasy. I hope you like it when you try again!
Every video you post, my TBR grows 😂
I predict the top 20 will have a healthy dose of Hobb and King. Hobb has 2, King has 3 or 4. I think Fellowship will be higher than Return of the King.
Some truth in these predictions!
Really appreciate your videos and the content that you make, its great stuff
Thank you - much appreciated!
My controversional suggestion to those who love Ender's Game...don't read Ender's Shadow. The latter made me learn about (and despise) the concept of "retconning."
Yeah, and he did go back and change the end of Ender's Game a bit to fit into what he wrote later. I did enjoy Ender's Shadow, though.
I recently finished Enemy Of God and thoroughly enjoyed it, that final third really hit another gear though! Bernard Cornwell is the best and though most fantasy readers will read The Warlord Chronicles or The Last Kingdom, his Sharpe series has a lot to love as well.
I'll eventually read everything by Cornwell - I've taken a short (unintended) break from him. He's very consistent!
Amazing list !! I agree with the top !!
Thanks!
Best book tuber on the internet. I wondering Harry Poter is in the list or not 🤔
You are too kind - thank you!
Book series: HORATIO HORNBLOWER by CS Forester SHARPE’S RIFLES by Bernard Cornwell
I'll eventually get to the Sharpe boys as I do want to read everything by Cornwell eventually.
@ my father started reading the Horatio Hornblower books and the late 1930s. He took a break from Vanderbilt University to join the Navy as an officer in WW2. HORATIO HORNBLOWER & SHARPE’S RIFLES each had a wonderful TV series of about 12 movies.
1Q84 was my first Murakami and it was my second favorite book of last year. I think it can work as an entry point into his works as long as long books are your thing
Wow - that's a start for Murakami and glad you loved it! I'm always hesitant to recommend books that big unless I know the reader. Glad it worked so well for you!
I loved Swan Song, perhaps more than The Stand. I wish I would have finished The Dark Tower series, I didn’t read the last two books. I discovered GGK from you and am very grateful! Your reading tastes seem to align quite nicely with mine.
Yes, I agree with Swan Song. It and The Stand are honestly a coin flip, which shows how tightly packed the rest of my favorites list is! I'm very happy that you have loved GGK!
Love it. You have some of my all-time favorites here, and a few that I need to add to TBR Mountain! The Fury has Spoken!
Yeah, and the top 20 is banger after banger! I guess when we get to our age, the great books pile up!
Love these videos!
Thank you!
Another great list. I finished 1Q84 a couple of weeks ago. As you said, long but compelling. I was a bit nervous towards the end as it could have gone a different way!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
As I have stated before, «Under Heaven» is perhaps THE book by GGK that I think could be taught in literature classes next to «War & Peace» and «Les Miserables»! 🙌 While I would say the characters gain more depth in later novels, many of the themes and dilemmas of «Ender’s Game» not only holds up, but also have had a great influence to this day! While I love the «Warlord Chronicle», I actually prefer «The Winter King» (especially the scenes in Gaul, could have easily read a whole trilogy just about that), and «EoG» is my least preferred in the trilogy, with «Excalibur» as a return to form. 😅
Agreed with Under Heaven - I'm already looking forward to my first reread and I only read it in 2023!
Only read 1 ender game but I didn't see the twist, I remember drawing of the three more, I di like the poet it a well set story the Sequel was not as good i did like his late night the later michael connelly series. I can see some more GGK book up there Dennis Lahane they seem yo be big favourites of your I hear the most about both I want yo check out, have you read bernard cornwell sharpe series I listen to all most of them just not last few come out really like them
Love Wizard and Glass! I've read that series twice, and just hearing about it makes me want to read it again. I don't have time for that, though. I need to read something by Murakami. I also plan to read some older sci-fi this year, so maybe I'll get around to Enders Game.
I'll also be rereading the Dark Tower somewhat soon - probably 2026. I hope you enjoy Ender's Game! Most people seem to love it except for a small (and vocal) minority on our discord!
Read under heaven years ago, absolutely loved it, and also the river of stars ⭐️ his lions of Al-Rassan is still my favorite, but the two China based novels are fantastic 👏🏻
Agree on all counts! Lions is fantastic and his top books honestly are all "S" tier.
Start by not starting. He's a mediocre, overrated writer.
What book do you recommend starting with Haruki Murakami?
Tough question. If you want something fantastical, I'd start with Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. If you want something that's less of the "weird" side of Murakami, Norwegian Wood was where I started.
I just started re-reading the Dark Tower series. This is my fourth time reading it. It is my favorite fantasy series. I like the blending of the different genres and characters. My favorite of the series is the drawing of the three.
I really need to reread the Dark Tower! Maybe next year. Possibly the boldest and bravest book series out there. King goes places no one else would even consider.
