Honestly, the most amazing part to me of Tears of the Kingdom is simply that it is POSSIBLE. When you have developers across the industry wondering what witchcraft and sorcery you used to make a game of this scale possible on technology equivalent to a 10-year-old tablet, you have done something magical.
So true. Mad when u see developers for PS5 and Xbox Series X in their previews highlighting what the new power does for creativity and freedom for new games and the Nintendo does this. Other developers need to start playing catch up
I find the way you reviewed this game to be extremely unique and innovative as you described each of the heights of TOTK with seamless transitions. I can definitely tell that type of exploration where you can traverse between heights is one of the things you appreciate the most about the game.
You look back at when Wood in his video where he went to the Switch launch when he was living in Canada at that time originally stating that he sucks at doing reviews & now look at him. He truly has grown & evolved as a reviewer. Every single review he's done since than has only gotten better & better. Proud of him.
I just noticed that at the start of the game you have 30 hearts total, and by the end of this game you have 38. This to me implies Link surpassed his limits in order to beat Ganondorf, which just further adds to my love of this game.
His arsenal also improved, whether his weapons or his friends. Back in BotW he fought all by himself and did not receive a direct help. Also spoiler alert : His Master Sword has been healed and made even better by Zelda, at the final battle he technically fought alongside her. I also love how the 4 sages all resembled the Champions in BotW
Yeah, by the end my Link felt AND looked like an Elden Ring superboss with max hearts, the fully enhanced Depths set, a Silver Lynel Dusk Claymore and a Lynel armor Hylian shield. I thought Ganondorf was going to cry, but then he pulled the no u with his transformation and health bar.

This review was a “1 hour of wanting to play this game all over again”, it was sooo amazing! I always love woods enthusiasm of this series and this is literally the best review! Now I gotta go play
One of your best vids you've ever done, hands down. The Purah nod was inspired! Could feel the excitement, the hype, the respect, and the love. I love this game too. Thank you for this, Wood. Brilliant!
What an absolute masterpiece of a review. Completely loved this! Wood channeling his inner NakeyJakey, writing a great script while adding in his unique and wacky stream of conciousness jokes had me rolling laughing while the actual review content made me so excited to play this game. Phenomenal job, Wood.
I hit the credits at roughly 300 hours. It was a breathtakingly spectacular adventure, that somehow managed to take a world that I already fully explored and make it fresh again. The story was amazing for what it provided and I loved it. The new mechanics that carry Link throughout his journey were interesting and felt great to use. The amount of objectives and stuff to do was overwhelmingly great. Minor issues like the sage's abilities being cumbersome or the sky islands not being as fleshed out as I had hoped meant nothing after diving deep into the abyss that is the depths, or taking so much time to build and experiment with my contraptions. Clearing all these caves in search of bubbul gems and neat outfits, grinding out ruppees to deck out my house. The list stretches on for miles. It was amazing. I can't even put the experience into words. Just wow.
Beat the game this week at 80 hours It’s such an amazing game. The approach of the final boss and the boss itself is something that will stick with me forever. It’s a cinematic experience
Seeing all the things people are building and doing in tears of the kingdom makes me feel intimidated by it it seems to big and I just can't get up to getting started in it I still haven't started it I had it since launch day
The cinematography of this review is amazing. I really appreciate the work to script and then record the transitions between the ruins, forest/creek, and cave you filmed at. I agree with your review and have been looking forward to seeing it. The one liners in this are great and too many to count! Now that you’re done with it, Wood. Take a nice long break and relax a bit!

This is a really great review. Two things I'd like to add: - revisiting old towns and places wasn't boring but it was really interesting to see how these places changed - no classic items? no problem! you can actually fuse together some iconic items like the mirror shield
Haven't watched the video yet, but the zonai devices are basically this game's take on classic items, along with the hand abilities and the sage abilities to an extent. I didn't know the hoverstones or construct heads existed, but they opened up so many new possibilities. The stabilizer, the wheels, the cannons, the stakes. They're like modern Zelda items that you "unlock" by unlocking the shrine on the island with a machine that has that item.
This is one of the best UA-cam videos I have ever watched. The amount of time and detail that has gone into this video is amazing. I watched it as I plan to finally get round to playing this game and its made me want to play it even more. Amazing video. Bravo
I feel like the way I'd describe this game is that it's Overwhelming but not like taking a Calculus Test when you haven't studied more like being a kid in a candy and toy store and not being told no.
I just noticed, in the starting scene, Link only has 30 hearts. He can get up to 40 in the new game. But what was a slap in the face is that he had max hearts and max stamina. But we all know Nintendo denied us that in BotW.
He had a few years between BotW and TotK, I'm sure he didn't stop training or finding ways to get stronger. But yes, I was really surprised when I got my 16th heart and it _wasn't_ on the second row. I love how many little surprises like that they put into the game.
One of the very rare once in a year times that I leave a comment. This was one really good review and video al together, just like always. Really good job Wood! From the start till the end I completely agree with the review! There's only one thing that I would add about the zonai devices, how the cooking pots can also be used as a suspension! Also a beautiful song at the end!
My first time playing this game was magical. The PURE JOY! I don’t think we get that too often as adults but this game really delivered it was unbelievable and so beyond words
Ok, so this was the first video I have seen by this content creator, and I have to say, my dude if you put this much enthusiasm into all your content, I will be a viewer for life. This was some incredible entertainment! You're hilarious and I actually learned a ton about the game, seeing things in ways I never would have considered before watching your video, so that's a win also! I'm going to have to see about if you stream your play, because you're a riot, and I am glad UA-cam actually recommended something good for a change!
I unfortunatley cant pay any attention to what you are verbaly saying but I am paying attention to the masterful way you present the information from the timing, background, and poping in and out of scenes. They way you present your videos is so masterful in so many different ways.
I watched this all the way through, and I was thinking "Yeah that was a great 20 minute video" not realizing this thing was an hour long. Great breakdown and high quality throughout the entire thing. Emmy and Grammy worthy performance, thank you ♥♥
I realized that even though I spent 1.5 months playing the game and realizing its depth, every time i watch a review, it puts into perspective how seamless the game experience is and how unnoticeable all the elements are sometimes, unless someone does a deep dive to bring them to light. Its simply because of the level of immersion this game brings to the table. I am so immersed, I forget to admire so much; I am just doing my own thing and being lost in my own world. Now that I am in my bed thinking about the game, I realize this is one of those games that I will and want to remember for the rest of my life. I thought this game blew it out of the park. It was the first game in a very long time where the world is yours and you make of it as you like. Elden Ring was breath taking but this game was something else in its own way. From the art style, to the gameplay to the features, etc, everything. Even though in my heart, it doesnt triumph over OOT, TOTK is the single best Nintendo game of this generation in my humble perspective. I say Nintendo bc I can't pretend like RDR2, Elden Ring, etc. didnt exist haha
From what I've seen 15 mins in this is the most impressive video Wood has ever done. I'm getting a TOTK style video that is so informative that it's like a made for History Channel. Awesome job keep up the awesome work.
I think... This is the best review of a videogame i'ver see, no words can describe your dedication, effort and care, the same way the gloom emerges to the earth of Hyrule, the same way your love for the game emerges too. Your review is a masterpiece as the game you review it. Sir, TotK is my favorite game ever made, and your review is equal to that. Congrats.
That's odd, I just finished my playthrough of TotK and this review is up! I played for 170 hours, finished all shrines and lightroots and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now I will take a break until we see some possible DLC.
This is probably my favourite game of all time, and while sure it does have its issues, there are many things I would want to be improved in the next Zelda game, I think if we just take a step back and look at the big picture we can really appreciate just how amazing this game really is. Maybe if they add DLC they can go a step further and solve some of the issues that people are saying this game has.
@@abdulnasirbushra6049 why did you find it boring? How did you find it boring? How many hours in did you get before you said to yourself, this is boring? Because I agree to some extent, but I put 165 hours into the game.
@@Nobddy HOLY CRAP thats a lot of hours. But I literally played some yesterday and had a blast I think because I played my first Pokemon game at the same time it made me more interested in that but I have only Gerudo town to go and I can beat Ganon but there is still loads to do Ive noticed
@@abdulnasirbushra6049 it’s the most hours I’ve ever put into a game that wasn’t Smash Bros lol. I just beat it yesterday. Have fun. Have an open mind. Give it some time. I loved it. It’s one of my favorite games ever, but I think it’s a heavily flawed game. Don’t want to spoil anything so have a nice day.
This review was worth waiting for - the fact that I’ve now clocked 160 hours in it somehow just made me appreciate it even more. Your diehard enthusiasm for the Zelda franchise in general is infectious, but seeing how happy ToTK has made you as a gamer (as well as the rest of us) just gives me warm fuzzies. This game is so innovative in its shameless pushback against the gaming “rules” most other titles adhere to - I’ve loved every minute of it. Also, you are a truly gifted vocalist 😂
I played BOTW over and over. I played it for years before getting tired of it. I rushed to beat TOTK, didn't do most of the quests, didn't get most of the outfits, beat it, and haven't played it since and probably won't. BOTW was fun because of the exploration of the world. TOTK just reuse the BOTK map. The sky islands and the depth were very repetitive to me and didn't make me want to explore them. The opportunity for this game to shine was to bring back old school dungeons. TOTK dungeons were just five check points and a boss fight. Old school dungeons are big. You have to find a map, keys, boss keys, a fun new item, fight loads of monsters, a mini-boss, and finally a main boss. Simply giving each dungeon an element is not enough. Zelda's story was cool, but it was all flash backs. Link's active story wasn't very engaging. The game started out strong, but as soon as I got to the main world, the game quickly lost it's charm.
Interesting, what you said was pretty much the reason I disliked a lot of Breath of the Wild. Tears does some things the same (story still not being great, for example) but improves on pretty much everything else, which is why I ended up actually enjoying it compared to BoTW. Repetition with shrines/exploration was what killed BoTW long term for me, while Tears's variety when it came to shrine puzzles and rewarding exploration is what kept the game alive and actually made me want to keep exploring. Both are flawed but it's interesting for me to see how different peoples views on the games are when compared.
I hear so many people with this exact complaint. And while I too am an enjoyer of classic Zelda dungeons and item progression, it kinda blows my mind that so many fans can't just appreciate how innovative and groundbreaking the physics and chemistry of TotK are. It's not perfect, but it's a bloody masterpiece, and soooo much work went into it. Can't you appreciate it for what it is, rather than whine about the ways in which you wanted something different? A lot of zelda fans come across as really entitled to me, like y'all feel like Nintendo owes you the sequel you wanted, exactly the way you envisioned it. I'd be stoked if the next installment in the zelda franchise included epic dungeons, but I'll be happy as long as the game is fun and creative, which they almost always are. The reality is that BotW and Totk are the two most successful Zelda games of all time, so your complaints will likely fall on deaf ears
This might be the funniest video you have ever made. I was waiting to pick up my kid from dance and I spent the time watching this and trying not to laugh out loud so hard, cause I was worried I'd get kicked out and have to wait outside in this Texas heat. Thank you for the great content!
The first time I entered the depths , I didn't like it, I felt it would be very big but not interesting, but exploring it later on my own and finding the light roots was an entertaining game of its own, and I liked going there and spending the time discovering it.
I'm 40 hours in and have only finished two temples. It's the first game in a long time that makes me want to just... Explore. This game is, for lack of a better term, magical.
That's , actually really _fast_ progress?? I'm clocking in at well over 300 hours - and I've barely touched a Temple! Got the Master Sword early and just having a -whale- erm , Leviathan of a time!
@@CHEFPKR Ok,, but there are guides everywhere? Anyhow - it _is_ in a very remarkable 'place'. But , if you Use your Zelda instincts 🪄 , it will become very Obvious; there are clues and cues. It's quite Beautiful actually!
Thank you so much for this video. I refused to watch/listen to anything about this game until I saw your review, and here we are! Just bought the game and I can't wait to get started after watching this video!! Your humor always makes me cry with tears of joy and humor!
The story though was the exact same at each of the 4 boss people. Each time I did it I wish I could have skipped the cut scenes cuz they were the exact same cut scene just with a different character each time. Also beat the game without using any of the new powers, like what was the point of them?? Very weird to even add them
I dunno why so many people have an issue with keeping a good stock of arrows in TotK. Literally just break all barrels and crates. If you don't wanna use weapon durability to do so you can just lift them up as far as you can with Ultrahand and drop them. You're welcome.
I'm just adding to the chorus here but major props to Wood for everything he put into this video. This looked like an incredible amount of work and it was also super entertaining. When I saw it was over an hour I figured I'd watch it in segments but then forgot to turn it off & watched the whole thing. Ha! Great stuff.
I know I may be but a humble fan, but I’m so insanely proud of you for being able to make this amazing video amongst all the struggles on the way!! The way I clicked SO fast, Im already 10 minutes in but I can’t wait to go through the rest, it’s AMAZING already ❤
The Sidon ability is actually useful to make yourself wet (😳) which combos well into the Zora weapon's which doubles attack when wet. I felt super strong with the 64 damage output
@@netweed09 I'll be honest I thought you meant I was passive aggressive cause you thought I was doing the "um actually you're an idiot for not realizing 🤓"....but if I dissect the term "passive aggressive" it all makes sense. Passive is referring to the passive ability of the weapon and aggressive is obviously referring to high damage output. Therefore: yeah it is passive aggressive at its finest
Well, it of course is the biggest and longest game I've ever played, but I have to say it's bit deceptive too. Of course the new skills are very good and innovative. But talking just about the world, the sky consists of a couple of unique islands and then the rest is copypasted multiple times. Same with the depths, it's mostly just the surface mirrored with endless copypasting of like 4 templates for an enemy camp, bosses and Yiga camps in consistent intervals. The loot is the DLC from BOTW pretty much. The mines are all copypasted too. And of course the surface is almost entirely the same from BOTW. So there are a handful of cool places in the sky and depths which are genuinely amazing, but also there is a lot of filler that gets boring quite fast. The dungeons are as dull as before and the bosses laughably easy. So I would say they expanded on the stuff that worked but didn't correct the stuff that didn't. The story formula and progression is one for one the same. Somehow it felt to me like an awesome game but a only a good sequel in terms of world building. Something between DLC and a true separate game. Having 5 years to build on BOTW somehow warranted more in depth world design IMO. Still, these 2 games are in a league of their own, hands down, so I guess I shouldn't complain. I would give it a 9/10, because it shares the same criticisms than it's predecessor.
Idk why but I love it every time he references Arlo. They should do a team up vid. Also… free arrows are all over the place, hope you get that figured out
Speaking of the starting island, I went through the entire thing backwards by mistake for a few hours before wondering why I couldn't do certain things and why I wasn't running into any of my abilities untill I got to a point where I REALLY couldn't progress lol so then I realized what I did wrong and spent another couple hours in reverse doing things in order lol
You know those metal bookcases in the castle library that you moved to open passageways? I fused that to a longsword and beat a Frox to death with it. _It was a Bookcase Smasher in the menu._ A _BOOKCASE SMASHER._
Wood, I don’t know what it is about this specific video but it’s one of the few gaming videos I saved on my UA-cam favorites list. I’ve never played botw or totk and my sister literally just bought both physical copies of them for my birthday 3 days ago and, after researching on youtube and continuously hearing they are two of the best games ever made, I am super stoked to start playing them. My switch has taken me back to my childhood. Your video is overwhelming indeed as the title states. Thank you and know your content is something I look forward to whenever I have downtime. I’ve had a 32 year gap between my original NES and this OLED switch. It’s long overdue. -Fredericksburg, VA
I really love TOTK but honestly BOTW just had an emotional resonance that is unmatched. The memories in BOTW are for emotional development and storytelling about the champions and their dynamics so you get attached to them. In TOTK the memories are mostly narrative based with much less fleshing out of the characters in the past. I think there was a lot of untapped potential in the original sages and pretty much all the zonai. Still a great game, but personally enjoyed BOTW story more for the emotional factor.
Yeah i get that man it's like the first game to a series will always be in your heart even though you love the new games that first game in the series will always be in your heart ❤️. But for me totk took my high expectations and hype and slam dunked it and created my game of the year or even dare i say my game of the generation! (aka switch) Since it is basically pretty much the last big hoorah for the system which kinda makes it somber for me since i treated my switch like a baby and to see it soon be obsolete is 😭
Wait WHAAAATT??? I feel like this game was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY more generous with arrows than botw was. I literally never had to buy arrows in TOTK, not one single time. Almost from the start of the game I had way more than I would ever use and by the end I think I had well over 500. In botw I can't count the occasions I had to go out of my way to go buy some arrows.
Yep. Never bought them once in TOTK. Early to mid game I would occasionally stop by some of the shrines that had arrows and a few other locations. Late game I never had to hunt for them at all because enemies were dropping more than I was using (and I was using a lot of arrows).
The value of Sidon and Opals is that they activate the water damage boost of many weapons. If you have the light scale Trident fused with a Lynel horn and then get Link wet, your damage increases a lot. But if you’re in battle in a field or temple, there might not be any water around. So Sidon’s ability or an Opal gives you water anywhere to boost your damage.
Im so glad that Nintendo didnt spend any Second to inform people that there is underground Area. I had no Clue what was waiting for me when I jumped down there, i just did it because i thought, why not try.. and god damn that was an amazing feeling. Happy to see others having hd the same experience.
I've played about 160 hours, and it's still overwhelming and intimidating to see the crazy contraptions that other people are building. Even after I find everything in the game someday, I'll still be trying to think of all the things I can build, because I don't to miss out on any of the potential fun and hilarity.
Oh man this is the best review yet. I’m sitting here playing TotK while watching the video and I definitely share your enthusiasm lol. I didn’t even realize the abilities were even in a direction that made sense!! They legit thought of everything dude. I swear, they want you to “cheat” so you feel like you outsmarted the devs but they know dude lol. Did you get your strategy guide in the mail finally too?? It is the best, most legit strategy guide I have ever seen, and I have had so so many

Great video Wood! I'm 150 hours in and nowhere near done. I love this game and I love your review of it. Pardon me if I skip the story part as I don't want spoilers but I can absolutely identify with everything you said. Well structured, well edited and well though out review. 😀😊
I'm still a newcomer to being a Switch and Legend of Zelda player, but I can say without hesitation that Tears of the Kingdom is my favourite video game of all time. Thank you and well done on doing an amazing job on this video 🙌🙌🙌
You made me appreciate things about the game, which I just finished recently, that I did not realize. Like celebrating that you finished something, but your way. So much freedom
GOD DAAMN SONNNN! One hour review, something like that I hoped for XC3, glad to see it happened with Zelda. That review have taken so many hours write, shoot, edited etc. Absolutely amaze, kudos!
2min in. It’s over an hour long so obviously haven’t seen the whole thing yet but will watch the whole thing. Thank you for all the time and energy you put into your review Wood!
Idk why people say Breath of Wild is one of the greatest games. This is not hate, Ocarina is my favorite game of all time. I only started playing BotW in 2023 after Elden Ring and I feel Elden Ring is a better game than BotW.
Using the analogy of solving puzzles being like a parents approval couldn't be any closer to the reason I love video games. It was always a pat on the back and made me feel good. Though, I never saw it in this game the way you said it until now. I've always been told it's a certain way to do a situation and that I would either do it wrong or over complicate things. Yet, in TOTK no matter what, when I get there, I get there.
I cant believe your dedication to make a video like this. All your audience would have been fine with a 20min vid but you went all out. I absolutely love the review!!!! Best video Ive seen on youtube EVER!
Glad to finally get your tank. It is probably my favorite video game of all time at this point. I find myself not wanting to finish the shrines because I don't want it to end
It’s a pretty decent dlc, though the dungeons are massively disappointing. Hit five easy switches and watch the same cut scene over and over. I was expecting a lot more after waiting so long. I think it was a little too much stuff to actually be dlc and not nearly enough new stuff to be considered a sequel, especially an asset reusing sequel that took six years.
The general rule of thumb for years of the kingdom is “if you don’t like it, it’s your fault”. There are so many ways to play and the game shows you so effectively how to do all of them, that if you don’t choose the play style that suits you (it IS there, you just have to look) then you won’t enjoy it, and it won’t be the game’s fault at all. The secondary rule is “if it’s stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid”
Honestly since finding you 2 years ago and both of us growing up on Zelda the way we did. I’m glad this game came out cause game was made for you to review. 10/10 homie
5 months later, we’re still not allowed to dislike/ critic this game….. What a shame, nobody can have a opinion on this game, unless you say it’s perfect.

This is a really great review. Two things I'd like to add:
- revisiting old towns and places wasn't boring but it was really interesting to see how these places changed
- no classic items? no problem! you can actually fuse together some iconic items like the mirror shield
You could get full hearts and stamina with the DLC though 😅😏
@@teknofi404 No you couldn't. If you got full stamina, then even with all of the DLC you would still need 2 more hearts.
@@pixywings my mistake then, I thought it added more shrines?
@@teknofi404 It did. 4 shrines, ergo, one extra heart.
This is a review worthy of this game, which is saying a lot. Well done on such a fantastically insightful, funny, and thorough review!
the dedication for a 1 hour review is awesome
Congrats.
Did you just review a review? That's Meta.
so true
That's odd, I just finished my playthrough of TotK and this review is up! I played for 170 hours, finished all shrines and lightroots and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now I will take a break until we see some possible DLC.
This is probably my favourite game of all time, and while sure it does have its issues, there are many things I would want to be improved in the next Zelda game, I think if we just take a step back and look at the big picture we can really appreciate just how amazing this game really is. Maybe if they add DLC they can go a step further and solve some of the issues that people are saying this game has.
Really? I found it REALLY boring for some reason :(

the passion that went into making this review... banger video
Even starting the video you can tell this is the ultimate review of the ultimate zelda
I knew just by seeing the video length and title 😅
Wait another 7 years and that title will go to the next one
It will be until Arlo's 3 hour review

The story though was the exact same at each of the 4 boss people. Each time I did it I wish I could have skipped the cut scenes cuz they were the exact same cut scene just with a different character each time. Also beat the game without using any of the new powers, like what was the point of them?? Very weird to even add them
Have watched several reviews, played the game myself, but still was hyped for your review!
The Sidon ability is actually useful to make yourself wet (😳) which combos well into the Zora weapon's which doubles attack when wet. I felt super strong with the 64 damage output
Passive aggressive at it's Finest! ^ ^
@@netweed09 OP’s comment was not passive aggressive at all
@@netweed09How?
@@Ty-vj4wg I was referring to Sidon , the OP gets it, lol.
This is probably my favorite video of yours. Absolutely incredible and inspiring 👏

Even after I find everything in the game someday, I'll still be trying to think of all the things I can build, because I don't to miss out on any of the potential fun and hilarity.
i feel like this game will be the OoT of this era. a game so far ahead of what had previously been made and a glimpse of what is to come.

TOTK is only good in early to mid game. But the exploration type will never beat the feeling I got from BOTW.
Ive been playing it for a long time now. It’s so deep and packs so much value for a game. Simply amazing
I LOVE THE GAME
The general rule of thumb for years of the kingdom is “if you don’t like it, it’s your fault”. There are so many ways to play and the game shows you so effectively how to do all of them, that if you don’t choose the play style that suits you (it IS there, you just have to look) then you won’t enjoy it, and it won’t be the game’s fault at all. The secondary rule is “if it’s stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid”
