As a Nepalese living abroad, this video makes me realize how beautiful my people, culture, country is. And yeah, imo the best way to learn another culture is through language.
I'm a British national married to a Nepali lady who is also a British passport holder. We have been living in Kathmandu with our daughter for the last six years on an NRN visa. We love the people and culture of Nepal. We hate the pollution, and poor, often corrupt systems. We hope Nepal can get good governance to help it develop, so people don't have to travel abroad for work, leaving their families behind. Nepal could make it easier to get long term visas for digital nomads and retired people, as it would bring a lot of revenue to the country. Overall we are happy in beautiful, crazy Nepal. Oh wow Maya, let me tell you, you had a brilliant idea to make this video! It was so so interesting to hear all of these different stories that led some foreigners to choose to live in Nepal! When you are in Nepal, it doesn't feel like there are foreigners living there but there are actually more than you think, I guess! When I will be back in Nepal, I will definitely give a try to the bakery of Mathilde and the restaurant of Edward Lee (I loved his entrepreneurial spirit, I think that's what Nepal needs, good ideas and hard working smart people). I am planning to move to Nepal next summer. I am an American. Any advice or tips from you all? I have never visited. I am a Buddhist. I’m interested in advice on supporting yourself there as a foreigner.
Not sure what advice you are looking for. The maximum length of stay in Nepal will be 150 days and you will get visa on arrival. There are other student and work visas but I am assuming that you will be visiting as a tourist. Nepal and Bhutan are very restricted countries to live permanently. For men, it is even more difficult because marrying Nepali woman does not get the man to stay in the country. A woman can marry a Nepali man and get to stay in Nepal. There is a retirement residential visa for long term stay, but you have to be over 60 with $20,000 in bank account and $2000/month income to qualify for that visa.

@@sbttmg8572 Actually, it is easy to come to Nepal if Nepal government allows it. Unfortunately, long term visa options in Nepal are extremely limited to none. Otherwise, Nepal would be flooded with foreigners with its cheap standard of living, low crime, and friendly people.
Girls, Kathmandu is a very advanced and a defferent place for country Nepal. Therefore go to Nepal with the mind sets that Kathmandu will be as worst or modern city next to your home towns.

Hello Mishima, It depends. Some find a job here before moving out (especially teachers and NGO expats). Some move to Nepal to study the Nepali language (or other studies) in a government-approved school (so it falls under a 'student visa'). Some are married to a Nepali. Some open a business here. But in all cases, it is important to know that the procedure is not as easy as moving to other countries (aka Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan,...). Best of luck !

OH, and I HAVE to visit the Terra Tsampa Bakery when I'm back in Kathmandu, the owner sounds like a very nice person! (ps: trying to catch up with your videos now that I'm back near Namche with some decent Internet connection. 2/3 done with my trekking in the Khumbu so far)

It's not impossible but it ain't easy. Retirement visa for example is quite complicated (almost impossible). I am still surprised why they are so strict about retirement visa. But many people living here have a work visa or a student visa. Some people also have business visas but it needs a pretty big amount of investment nowadays (which was not the case 10 years back). For the good bread, no problem, Terra Tsampa is making amazing bread and is even delivering with Pathao. 😉
As the madam said Nepal is male dominant country. Sure it is in mostly thats what makes the Nepal peaceful. Nepal have traditional values and as a man our responsibility is to provide and protect our loved ones.

I can answer that question but it will be a rude answer. The answer is that Nepal does not have an option for foreigners to live there. If you look at the interview then these are people who are working for NGO or visiting for work. In fact, Nepal would not even allow former Nepalis to live in Nepal if they take foreign citizenship. They have a NRN (Non Resident Nepali) card for former Nepalis but that is restrictive as well. UA-cam videos sell dreams and only provide partial information. The only hope is "resident visa." That visa is issued for people 60 years old or higher and requires you to both have $20,000 in bank and spend $20,000 per year living in Nepal. Also, it requires a proof of $2,000/month of steady income. Only if you are over 60, you should look for long term stay option in Nepal. For a guy, even marrying a Nepali woman would not get you to live in Nepal because Nepali government argues that "in our culture, a woman leaves her home to live with her husband."

I would love to live there, but...yeah...the noise is crazy in KTM. No wonder nepalis tend to talk loud. The constant hammering is also annoying. Love yak cheese and nepali coffee. Pokhara is my "home".
Somehow i learned how to love the chaos of Kathmandu. I didnt like Kathmandu when I first moved there, but I step by step learned to appreciate the vibe and the mini village lives around the city. It has a vibe. Obviously, the pollution is the worst.
The problem is how can you live in Nepal long term? This video is making people believe that you can just come to Nepal and live there, but the reality is that Nepal does not have a long term visa option to live there.

Most of the foreigner choose nepal because its not highly developed country with no sky scrapers just beautiful open sky with low pollution and people feel less dizzy here . Main reason is the nature of our country ❤ and definitely for peaceful life 😊 I love my country Nepal ❤

Well, they cannot help it. The church pays them and these entitled people enjoy free money in the name of spreading religion. Organized religion is a scam and people follow it because there are these benefits of living off someone else's money.
You need to appriciate foreigners who come here to work through missionsry organization , if you study the history of christian organization ,they serve in a community like building school,hospital working in health sector for example :Patan hospital used to run by missionary! So don't have a hostile to those organization n people who contribute in our country! Saint Xaviers school is also an example

Only Indians can live in Nepal as long as they want even for their entire life. For everyone else, it is complicated. However, Nepalis also get the same rights to work and live in India as long as they want without any visa hassles.
Don't blame them. Nepal is good only if you are relatively richer compared to the population. If Nepal was a rich country then these people will run away from Nepal as fast as they can. Nepalis leave the country to earn money so that they also get that comparative advantage.
Don't worry. Nepali rules do not allow foreigners to live in Nepal long term. The resident visa is pretty restrictive as well. Too much immigration will drive up cost of living for Nepalis and government is aware of that. Nepali government only allows a maximum stay of 150 days on tourist visa per calendar year.
Foreigners get money and support from their country and easily exploit Nepal and Nepali people to do things they cannot do at other place. It is sad how they make poor people of nepal poorer while country gets dirty, polluted and violence ..

As a Nepalese I wouldn't suggest you to live here, the politics is always unstable also the social services isn't good.

I would love to live there, but...yeah...the noise is crazy in KTM. No wonder nepalis tend to talk loud. The constant hammering is also annoying. Love yak cheese and nepali coffee. Pokhara is my "home".
Somehow i learned how to love the chaos of Kathmandu. I didnt like Kathmandu when I first moved there, but I step by step learned to appreciate the vibe and the mini village lives around the city. It has a vibe. Obviously, the pollution is the worst.
The problem is how can you live in Nepal long term? This video is making people believe that you can just come to Nepal and live there, but the reality is that Nepal does not have a long term visa option to live there.

You need to appriciate foreigners who come here to work through missionsry organization , if you study the history of christian organization ,they serve in a community like building school,hospital working in health sector for example :Patan hospital used to run by missionary! Don't worry. Nepali rules do not allow foreigners to live in Nepal long term. The resident visa is pretty restrictive as well. Too much immigration will drive up cost of living for Nepalis and government is aware of that. Nepali government only allows a maximum stay of 150 days on tourist visa per calendar year.
