Kaamatan is Malaysia's version of Thanksgiving/Octoberfest.
It is strictly celebrate in Borneo in Sabah, and Sarawak (called Gawai).
We were overwhelmed and happy to learn about the Sabahan culture, the many different tribes, and trying tapai (local rice wine) for the first time!

Sabahans are really friendly. One fact about Sabah is, that it is a vocal powerhouse in Malaysia. A lot of great Malaysian singers are Sabahan. Their vocal is unbeatable and they’ll have a karaoke session any time of the day.
Ivana looks like native sabahan 🤩

The people of Sabah and Sarawak are very lovely people. They make very good hosts. BTW, my brother is married to a Murut lady and brothers-in-law are married to a Kayan and Dusun lady respectively.

It is Ka'amatan..NOT Keamatan.
Keamatan is a Malay word that has no meaning.

I lived in Kuching from 2003-6. Gawai was a festival that i always looked forward to. Spent most of them in tiny kampongs out in the jungle, often being recruited to play the gongs until sunrise when they realized I was a trained musicians. Then someone tried to teach me how to do the plate dance. That was an utter failure. 😂 Thanks for bringing the memory back to me. Those where some of the best times of my life that I’ll never forget.

@@muhammad11ali11 Any drink with alcoholic content is forbidden in Islam for d Muslim. Tapai is fermented tapioca or glutinous rice, no alcohol content. I do realize that there r few Muslim that consume alcoholic drink although they know it's against their religion. I cannot judge those people. 🙂

Wow..Tapai in bamboo. That's new. It used to be in a Tajau (Clay Jar) where people would take turn to sip from a straw. I was always grosed by that. Covid changed it. Something good as a result of Covid.

There is another murut festival called Pesta Kalimaran which is celebrated on the 31st of March every year at the Tenom Murut Cultural Center. You should do a vlog about that too 😄
