  • Aramaiti!! (Cheers!!)
Day 2 of Pesta Kaamatan (Sabah Harvest Festival)!
We went to see unduk ngadau (beauty pageant) which is held yearly to preserve the native culture of Sabah, and to celebrate the Harvest Goddess whom sacrificed herself to save its people from famine and draught.
It was the longest beauty pageant ever, so while waiting for the result, we went around and partied at the traditional houses that have turned to bars and nightclubs.
Shoutout to the Rungus Longhouse for holding the best party of the night!!
What a fun day we had. Bornean culture and lifestyle is so different than in Peninsular Malaysia.
    Check out our vlog!
Happy Harvest Festival (Kaamatan and Gawai) for our friends in Borneo!
Special thanks to Sabah Tourism #sabahtourism
    TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 - A lot more than just a beauty pageant
6:23 - Nightclubs in traditional houses!! Whaat?
10:35 - "Who are you cheering for?" (ME: PAPAR!!)

@@ukchub6633 Please don’t comment negatively before you know the actual history. The Tadau Kaamatan festival first started at the Sabah/North Borneo state level in 1956, even before Sabah was a part of Malaysia (Sabah joined to form Malaysia later in 1963). The 1st state level Sabah/North Borneo Unduk Ngadau was held in 1960. So no, this Tadau Kaamatan or Pesta Kaamatan isn’t just made up for tourism, but a yearly celebration for all the indigenous tribes of Sabah (mainly KDMR) to come together & be thankful for a good harvest. Eventually in years to come, this celebration welcomed anyone from anywhere around the world to come and be part of the thanksgiving. Even if there were no tourists at all, the Pesta Kaamatan will continue as usual because it’s original & main purpose is for us, the people of Sabah to never forget our roots, traditions, traditional clothes, food & our languages, no matter how modern the world gets.

@@ukchub6633 I’m surprised that you as a half Iban seem not to know about the Sarawakian culture & traditions, which is still very well preserved right until this day & that Hari Gawai & Pesta Kaamatan celebrations are definitely NOT “just made up” for tourism.

Celebration and competition - every culture has it. Because of climate, more expressive celebration of harvest. Rather than Ironman, strength, farming competitions or State fairs here beauty & culture is celebrated. Like every culture, there is celebration of the efforts of sowing, planting & harvesting. However, native alcohol features heavily - good or bad !

@@kingkong6729 It's the people themselves who wants the division isn't it? Each major races wants their own schools and curriculum, religions and places of worship, cultural practices, food centres, even housing areas. Can you imagine if other minor races in Malaysia are enforced to use a standard Malay personal name in the name of unity just like how Indonesia been doing, there will be an uproar! Total chaos! Civil wars even! Lol even to put all kids together in one school already opposed by Chinese and Indians, and you want to blame it on the government? And what is it with the minority races here in Peninsular hating the religion of Islam? Did they not know that Tanah Melayu or Malaysia had been Muslim land for centuries when they immigrate here??? Are they too hateful deep in their heart to easily fall into the western medias Islamophobic propaganda? That's why there's division.
