I feel so happy that you are spending so much time with your mom amd dad. Reminded me of my late mom and makes me missed her very much. They both are so much similar in some way. E.g skeptical yet willing to try new foods, new activities etc. Oh. Mom is a wonderful person on earth. I feel it so much when you keep calling her..mom..mom..mom..

I have never seen anyone eating like Diane does...such patience and such elegance ❤ Btw dodol isnt all sugar Steve. Its glutinous rice and coconut milk and sugar ( or nisang ) slow cooked and constantly stirred over an open fire in a big vat till the liquidy mixture turns goey/mostly solid. Then it's cooled either in daun palas ( which is what you guys had ) or in clear heat proof plastic pouches.
Subhanallah... When we make our parents smile n happy.. God will bless us so much.. Ease our life journey n give us happiness n wealth n health. Thats what we muslim believe. Congrats steve.. U r good son.
You've just opened a whole new world of taste and experiences for your parents here in Malaysia, and looking by their reactions, they're really enjoying it!😂😊

16:04 In South East Asia, you don't get a knife bcos we don't cut our food. Spoon and Fork is not our culture but are provided if you don't want to get your hands on wet food. The old fashion way is to eat with our hands. So don't be shy to use your hands if the fork and spoon are an inconvenient. I'd just grab those chicken drumstick and chow on it if i were you. Using hands when eating is not just in SEA. Middle East and South Asia too.
So wonderful to see your parents game-on trying all sorts of new food and activities. Clams does take a while to adjust (from taste to texture) I think my favourite to start small will be the onion ginger garlic "lala" (the flat tiny clams). Small enough and not too oddly chewy to go with the rice. My mom sometimes does it sweet sour style / kung pao style, which pretty much take away almost all the fishy taste. That last dance at the end of the clip is perfect for a tiktok recap / UA-cam shorts with the right music! Your parents: 5 star for being so sporting to come all the way visit Malaysia!
Subhanallah... Tak Di sangka Di Terengganu ada kolam sangka mcm tu... Ada Ikan Baramundi lagi... Masha Allah... Semuga Aman Damai dan Indah selalu Malaysia ku... Alhamdullilah Syukur... Subhanallah... by RMSJB at 2.Nov.2023
21:17 • There is a Dodol Durian and melt Dodol version. Dodol is a traditional Malay food during the festive season of Aidilfitri and Aidiladha. I was once involved in the process of making traditional Dodol while in my village in the state of Melaka.
Diane...you're brave! At least you tried the lokan - the cooked one. That is why it's chewy and takes a lot of chewing. For the oyster, if eaten fresh/raw, it's not chewy, but the texture might be too much for you. I like all of those sold at the stall...different kinds of seashells plus the mud crab. BUT, I could only eat very little of them. Good try Steve and Diane, a great challenge! As for Ivana, no problem at all. LOL. As for chinese cooking, we have variety of recipe for it. Or with different kinds of dipping sauces.(eg. minced garlic, coarinder leaves, chilli, lime)
22:12 - Kuih Bahulu also a Malay traditional food during the festive season... Of course, there are other versions that have the essence of various types of seasonings. In the video is not a original Bahulu. very different. See the Google image to find the original Bahulu look like 😊
Steve your mom is so tolerant. I remember when I was in New York, we invited an American to a Malaysian dinner party. Though he liked the food, he felt insulted when we ate with our hands. He thought we were trying to make him feel nauseous!
Steve your mum hit in on the button when she said bahulu would be food with tea. There are two version one is hard on is soft but both dense, when I was young I would dip it with tea or milo then eat it
1st time i tried oyster was in 2012, at one of the restaurant hotel in USS Singapore...it was really nice! I ate 3 pieces! Put a lot of lemon juice on it..yummyyyyy...😋😋😋
Steve..... Mk sure all of you get some supplements of vitamins n such ya. You've been out in the open, hot weather n then rain so yeah it cud be taxing on the health... Hv more fun... Stay safe... 💓💓💓
Oh man your mom is such a trooper Steve trying lokan... as a Malaysian I gotta say, shellfish is not my favourite too... too bad you guys didn't spot any crocodiles
You can eat the lokan flesh RAW! Jelly-like meat. Very nice. A little reminder, check carefully if there's worm inside the lokan. That's not supposed to be in our belly! Cooked lokan meal can be tough and chewy sometimes.
When mum's says good, she means it from her deep heart.Thank u for promoting our country.Thumps up to beutiful Terengganu my state

In northern Malaysia lokan is sliced and fried with turmeric, onion and chili
Please consider Cafe Markisa in Jasin, Melaka for lunch one of these days. Bet the whole fam will love the ambience there. Food's really good. ❤
